So which one do you want to be Christmas number 1?
I have downloaded RATM.

" Loads of swearing in the song despite being asked not"

Eh? Unless they were singing live I don't see how asking them not to swear would have helped.

UnquietDad · 17/12/2009 12:14

I don't get it - who asked them not to swear? Was it a live performance?

Bruno Brookes played the full unedited version on the Top 40, I remember. Very funny!

mozette · 17/12/2009 15:50

They done a live performance from the US this morning on Nicky Campbell's show and someone at the BBC was enjoying it so much that they forgot to cut it off at the sweary bit. Youtube of the performance

MattBellamysMuse · 17/12/2009 16:32

Ah, now it all makes sense. I'm not sure how they could perform Killing In The name without the swearing. It's part of the lyrics.

MollieO · 17/12/2009 19:29

No I don't think they were swearing deliberately to upset me but I thought their behaviour was very childish. They had been asked to sing live on the radio at 8.55am and not swear. Instead they sung a load of four letter words until they were faded out quickly. Not so quickly that I didn't hear them sing f*ck four times. I'd rather not have my 5 yr old listening to that!

In the same way that Lily Allen didn't swear or use the correct lyrics when she was on SCD last weekend.

MrsJamin · 17/12/2009 20:17

DS lending his support to the campaign (don't worry I stopped it before the swearing!)

MattBellamysMuse · 17/12/2009 20:42

Sorry MollieO, it's just that your post didn't make sense till someone informed us they'd played live on Radio 5. Yes, they shouldn't have done that. Maybe they forgot? Doesn't change anything for me whichever way.

harleyd · 17/12/2009 20:47

no way!
they've pulled the youtube clip that heathen had linked to. damn!

mrsjamin cute kid

MattBellamysMuse · 17/12/2009 21:36

What a shame! It was brilliant.

MattBellamysMuse · 18/12/2009 10:45

I just realised I hadn't even heard Joe's song
I'm listening now and it's spectacularly .... dull. Bland lyrics, bland music, cliched video of his 'journey' to becoming X-Factor winner.
He's got an OK voice but nothing outstanding. Very meh.
Rage for No1!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/12/2009 12:32

I don't watch the X Factor and have bought RATM - it's a good song but not their best.

For the future though - would like to see x factor winners releasing their own songs as their first singles. Then I wouldn't care if they got to number one. The continual dribble of crap covers by crap singers with crap personalities gets a little tiring, TBH.

It would certainly save a lot of time and effort on everyone's part - they could get straight to fading into obscurity when everyone realises that they can't write songs for toffee and have no real interest in music - little Joe said on the radio this morning that he hadn't even heard RATM and that he only listened to new chart stuff.

The public should know better (with the exception of Will Young) only women who win these competitions do well. Maybe it's down to the type of males that voters choose or something, but they all crash and burn and they are all so DULL...

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/12/2009 12:33

Bellamy - and if his voice isn't outstanding with all that studio work put into it, imagine...!

hollyroger · 18/12/2009 12:35

er you do realise whichever you buy, it's all going into Sony's pockets... sorry f this has already been mentioned, can't read whole thread right now.

hollyroger · 18/12/2009 12:36

mattbellamy - in our house, we sing ''your specs are on fire...'' (DH and I are speccy gits)

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/12/2009 14:19

Yes holly, we all know this. It's not really the point though, as it's not a direct protest at Sony, rather an XFactor drivel protest.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/12/2009 14:20

Plus, not ALL the money gets to Sony, and the money that has been donated to Shelter has been fantastic. RATM will be donating to Shelter also.

hollyroger · 18/12/2009 14:29

well, my point is, I would rather buy nothing than give Simon Cowell any of my scant dosh, either directly or indirectly. He, for example, is a twat.

hollyroger · 18/12/2009 14:30

I'll just give direct to shelter tbh

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/12/2009 14:34

I'm not sure how Simon Cowell earns money from RATM. I know they are connected, but BMG is he RATM label and they also own Cowell's label. SO apart from the ridiculously indirect BMG earning keeping them afloat meaning Cowell's label stays in business I'm not sure what you mean, because taking things to that level means a boycott and are you saying that you don't buy anything in any way connected with Sony?

Well yess, people ARE giving direct to shelter. The Facebook page encourages buyers to ALSO donate to shelter after buying their download. So it's not tied it. It's all incidental.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 18/12/2009 14:35

I mean, it's not that a portion of the payment goes to shelter, it's a separate donation altogether, simply promoted with the campaign. It's raised over £50,000

hollyroger · 18/12/2009 14:36

pfft, actually I realise I don't care.

Have a
