So which one do you want to be Christmas number 1?
I have downloaded RATM.

OP posts:
Kaloki · 16/12/2009 15:51

Good to know there are more kids out there listening to a variety of stuff than I previously expected.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 16/12/2009 15:54

DD is 2 and loves Minority. She was walking round Sainsbo's earlier singing the chorus
(I want to be the minority, I don't need your authority
Down with the moral majority, 'Cause I want to be the minority)

I have to censor the 'f*ck 'em all' line by singing loudly...

A free for all
BOTHER THAT
You are your own sight.

jeep · 16/12/2009 15:55

lol i wouldn't admit it if my kids liked green day.but i suppose it is aimed at under the under 10s

Kaloki · 16/12/2009 15:57

"A free for all
BOTHER THAT
You are your own sight."

Haha!

Me and DP were talking about our music collection and how much of it could be considered "child friendly", the result is very little. So it should be interesting once we have kids that are old enough to copy what they hear. "Yes" by the Manics could be interesting..

natapillar · 16/12/2009 15:57

i let my kids listen to the bleeped versions of songs like RATM,Green Day,LP etc etc... if they like it they can listen to it! but i am against them hearing the swearing versions.

natapillar · 16/12/2009 16:00

what is so bad about admitting ur kids like Green Day??? no i am not a fan of theirs but they have been round so long now that most kids who like them were not even born when they were formed!
i used to love them in the 90s.

jeeeez,no wonder some kids feel the need to hide certain things about themselves or feel ashamed.

almay292 · 16/12/2009 16:23

RATM - may not even bother listening to it. I know it's a futile gesture - like using a cocktail umbrella to stem an avalanche of shite - but it's a start.

MattBellamysMuse · 16/12/2009 16:27

Five-year-old DS2's favourite song is Sex On Fire by Kings of Leon
I have visions of him sitting in class (he's year 1) singing 'woooah, your sex is on fiiiire'.
I told him it was called On Fire and he makes up the rest of the words

harleyd · 16/12/2009 16:34

lol i'd prob get shot down in flames if i listed some of the stuff my kids listen to
it really doesnt bother me in the least, they dont run about the place swearing like troopers

and hey...whats wrong with green day! i love them

RubberDuck · 16/12/2009 16:51

My five year old and eight year old listen to sweary lyrics - they haven't picked up on it yet (at least the 8 year old is mature enough to know which words are non-repeatable in front of adults ). I do tend to skip over Lily Allen's Fuck You though, simply because it's such a catchy tune, and that's just asking for them to repeat it in class....

angfirsttimer · 16/12/2009 17:51

Almay - loving the 'cocktail umbrella to stem an avalanche of shite' analogy!!

Also loving the rage/xfactor spoof that someone linked to on you tube.

burstingtotalkaboutit · 16/12/2009 17:55

cowell won't make any money from ratm sales...however the war between the two singles means that the volume of xfactor single sales will be higher. so he stands to win financially. he's not happy about it tho.

TheHeathenOfSuburbia · 16/12/2009 19:00

But surely no-one is buying the X-factor single specifically in an effort to make it no.1? They are buying it because... er... well... for reasons best known to themselves I guess.

grendalsmother · 16/12/2009 19:48

God knows, But anything to annoy Cowell, I loath that man.

Re the Kings of Leon, I have a friend who boys sing Socks on Fire. Luckily DD only wants to hear Dominic the Donkey or the Levellers.

I'm currently trying to get Radio edit versions of most of our music. It's amazing how my attitude changed once she was born.

thell · 16/12/2009 20:10

I'm buying The Muppets version of Bohemian Rhapsody

mollybob · 16/12/2009 21:45

I'm not at all bothered - have bought Joe for my 8 year old DD who likes X factor and loves Miley but I have never watched any of simon cowell's stuff - just no interest in it.

mozette · 16/12/2009 22:10

Hitler finds out RATM are number one

SleightiesChick · 16/12/2009 22:56

The Bob Dylan Christmas album is great (and I'm not a fan but DH is). Imagine your old uncle growling our carols but in quite an endearing way. I won't be downloading the single (which track is it?) just because I've already got the album - BUY IT, it's brilliant.

I'll be downloadng Rage because although I watch the X Factor obsessively, the poor quality of the Xmas single and the arrogance of assuming the No. 1 is theirs by right is highly annoying now.

lowrib · 16/12/2009 23:58

Definitely RATM

joyfull · 17/12/2009 09:51

As far as I understand the contest with X Factor and RATM is Sony BMG vs Sony BMG - win/win.

I'll keep my pennies thanks Sony

joyfull · 17/12/2009 09:54

oh - i didn't see these!

Here's my xmas Sony sceptic face

x

MollieO · 17/12/2009 09:55

I don't like either but I heard RATM on Radio 5 this morning and wouldn't buy it on principal. Loads of swearing in the song despite being asked not. Seemed very childish behaviour to me. I won't be buying either but if I would it would be the X factor one following that poor behaviour. I was grateful that ds wasn't in the car to hear it.

MollieO · 17/12/2009 09:58

principle [pedant]

tiredemma · 17/12/2009 09:58

both songs are shit.

MattBellamysMuse · 17/12/2009 10:44

MollieO, I'm not sure I understand you. Did you think RATM were swearing deliberately to upset you?
