Welcome to the Mumsnet Orchestra
What's your instrument?
We are particularly short of armpit musicians, and those proficient with a kazoo.

TipsyFairydifferentID · 30/11/2008 18:16

thanks bellavita. It is you isn't it?

BoccaDellaVerita · 30/11/2008 18:22

No, I'm not bellavita. This is me. I changed my name fairly recently, but bellavita n'est pas moi.

jessia · 30/11/2008 18:22

Is there a part for a 5th clarinet (grade 7)? If not, I'll pay any toon you like on the toothbrush.
Oh and I will be tenor in the choir (am alto really but you know what it's like in amateur choirs, they're always short of men and [sad boast emoticon] I can sing an octave below middle C.
But my unrequited love is the violin so I'm happy to be inside back desk of 2nd violins if you'll just humour me...

smartiejake · 30/11/2008 18:23

somuchtobits Thanks!
I'll bring the cork grease and the rizla papers (for removing the bubbles from under the pads!)

Just watch out for those toy piano players though- they look a dodgy bunch if you ask me! And don't bring your boyfriend- that knicker elastic player is on the prowl.

DingDongDisasterAreaOnHigh · 30/11/2008 18:25

Can I be tenor recorder? was rather good when I was 14. am sure it'll all come back to me.

BoccaDellaVerita · 30/11/2008 18:27

There is space in the orchestra and chorus for anyone, but I do worry that those of you with serious credentials as musicians may be a little disappointed at the company you will have to keep.

Players of the toothbrush, on the other hand ... Do you play a tune on it, by the way, or just a rhythm? My dad can beat out a crazy toothbrush rhythm on the bathroom basin. Oh yes, I come from a musical family.

EscapeToVictory · 30/11/2008 18:27

If there's a vacancy for me and a tinfoil wrapped cereal box with elastic band 'guitar'
then count us in.

SoMuchToBits · 30/11/2008 18:30

Well, I could bring my dh smartiejake he is a competent trombonist!

jessia · 30/11/2008 18:33

Oh a tune, a tune. Might need amplification (is on teeth), but a definite tune. But I remember my friend from school, she and her family used to play some Bach all together in the bathroom... Feth, you out there?
Anyway, think my toothbrush skills might be superior to my clarinet ones nearly 20 years on...

smartiejake · 30/11/2008 18:35

OOH my dh played the cornet when he was younger- we could form a quartet!

BoccaDellaVerita · 30/11/2008 18:39

Phew! I can hardly keep up.

Thank God for copy and paste then!

Waltzywotzy · 30/11/2008 18:41

I am concerned I would be on the list for blowing grass though!

Tipsy - yes indeedy!

SpirobranchusGiganteus · 30/11/2008 18:57

Have you got anyone for wood pigeon/dove noises through cupped hands? I've got Grade 8 in that.

SoMuchToBits · 30/11/2008 18:57

Ahem! Excuse me, Bocca ... but our clarinet section (myself and smartiejake) is feeling slightly ignored here! Please add us in...

SpirobranchusGiganteus · 30/11/2008 18:58

Oh, and instead of Ode to Joy, could we do Ode to PMSL?

It is nearly the same but more mumsnetty.

pineneedlesinmynibnabs · 30/11/2008 19:24

I was wondering if we could play the all time classic The Conga? Thought it might keep the xylophone section on their toes. And i did get promised my Johnny Briggs solo. Have been practising hard.

BoccaDellaVerita · 30/11/2008 19:31

Ooops, sorry, somuchtobits! Smartiejake is already there on the musical saw and garden hose but I had overlooked your clarinet.

If anyone can find me the notes (and translate them into the relevant elc key colours), I would like to attempt the sax part of Careless Whisper. Would that have a place in the orchestra's repetoire?
