I just can't stand...Amy Winehouse.
There I said it.
When I've said this out loud in front of friends, they've behaved as though I've taken a shit in their handbag.
The voice is wonderful I agree. But:

  1. Her shitty attitude
  2. The addictions (yeah it's an illness 🫩)
  3. Bad choices in men
  4. Was she really so outstandingly wonderful that we forgive the unprofessionalism? Late to gigs, arseholed on stage etc etc
I've seen the documentaries. She was vulnerable. Her family/friends/ milkman took advantage.

What about you?

Lauryn Hill also pisses me off.

Take That. Just terrible banal songs.

Ed Sheeran - a drip, probably got As in his maths homework
Sam Smith (can’t bear to even look at him)
Adele - she slurs her words and later so up herself she’s inside out
Barbra Streisand - chalk on a blackboard
and presumably Taylor Swift but I couldn’t name anything she’s done ever but she looks like I wouldn’t like her.

I’m an old soul girl.

An old soul girl, you say?. That's my kinda music as well!

SamTR1 · 24/08/2026 23:54

David Bowie - I can’t understand how he sold a single record.

Michael Buble - Makes me cringe

Winehouse had one boyfriend who was famously an arsehole. The others she dated were perfectly reasonable decent blokes. And I don't see why someone being an addict would make you hate them?

I agree it was frustrating watching her seemingly falling apart before our eyes but that elicits sympathy in me as opposed to hatred. So I'm not in agreement with you really about her.

I don't like Taylor Swift. I can't stand her music and her style.

Another one I can't stand is Geri Halliwell. She's such a bullshitter. And that awful simpering way she hangs like a limpet from her posh husband and wears nothing but white. Plus she can't sing or write or present to save her life.

Robbie Williams is another megalomaniac with very limited talent. I'm not fond of him at all.

I'd say both boyfriends were famous arseholes and her addiction as most people's addictions doesn't illicit hate in me but does illicit feelings of tedium and irritation. Her lack of giving a shit about her fans and general entitlement is the cherry on the cake.
Robbie Williams is a grade A cock, agreed.

Gawd yeah that song Bruno Mars does that sounds like a rip off of The Police. It's so cringe! 'your sex takes me to paradise'?? 🤣

Your username is great by the way. I knew instantly which Bruno Mars song you meant because that guitar in it really does sound like a rip-off of The Police. That banal lyric you mentioned, and the stupid sound effect after his, “oh, yeah, yeahs” in the intro make that song very cringe. Woop, woop, woop, woop, woop, woop, woop, woop (or whatever it’s supposed to be).

Coldplay - that song with all the little chimey tings in the background actually makes me feel nauseous everytime, but I can’t explain why???

'In My Place?' Possibly because that song sounds like a shameless ripoff of Radiohead's 'No Surprises'.

They're an absolutely stellar band and that song is from a classically brilliant album. And even though it's not the strongest track on there, it still knocks spots off Coldplay's typically lacklustre version!

mishmashmess · 25/08/2026 14:18

Having seen Oasis in concert in the 90s, I can confirm that they are very, very mediocre.

I can't help but like Shakira - after her husband cheated on her and his mother (who lived in a garden annexe of their house) sided with him, Shakira put a massive cardboard witch on the balcony overlooking MIL's house, so it was the first thing her ex-MIL would see when she opened her curtains each day. That's an admirable act of petty revenge, in my book.

I have no doubt that Shakira is a lovely person but I cannot forgive her crimes against music

Oh no, I love Radiohead!

I’ve just looked it up and its called ‘Hymn for the weekend’ sounds like a Sunday school kids group have got hold of the triangles! 🤮

Ah, my bad! Wrong song. But that one does sound like a thoroughgoing nightmare, I agree.

Kylie minogue - the “pop princess” moniker just hides her mediocre talent.
Sophie Ellis Bexter - her mum made her famous but she’s got the most weedy voice ever!

dustabsorber · 25/08/2026 15:24

First RIP Amy. I can't stand Lewis Capaldi. All his songs are so whiney. I cannot understand why anyone buys them.

PlumColouredBedding · 25/08/2026 15:29

I agree re Amy W. Her songs were catchy but she didn't come across to me as a nice person at all

Oasis. Talentless idiots who can’t sing.

Excuse me? 😵‍💫

MurphysColeslaw · 25/08/2026 15:34

Many, however Elbow is the first that springs to mind .

Kylie has been extremely lucky basically. She has very good stage presence & puts on a good show but she owes a lot to the likes of Madonna etc for her influence. I'm already dreading hearing her appalling 'XMAS' song in a few months. It really does go to show that people will listen to any old crap around that time of year....

Hard agree. I’m sure they’re lovely people, blah, blah, but god the music is shite.

When your taste in women is Gwyneth Paltrow I can just imagine his as bland and out of touch as she is remember the vagina candles she was yapping on about

If she were alive she would have faded into obscurity but she died so people put her on a pedestal instead

Mycatisreal · 25/08/2026 15:49

Bob Dylan. Wtf? It’s like the emporer’s new clothes “I like him, oh so do I”. Whining trash.
Gloria Estefan. Radio goes straight off.
Robbie Williams. No sense of self-awareness.
Kylie Minogue. Can’t sing, just been very lucky (lucky lucky)

mishmashmess · 25/08/2026 15:58

I can't get past the fact that Robbie Williams now looks so much like Paulie Walnuts from The Sopranos.

I'm afraid Sam Fender makes me want to stick chewing gum in my own ears. His music is just so soul-destroyingly dull.

I promise I thought this before the weird obsession with rubber, but I can’t stand Sam Smith’s voice.

Have you listened to "Whiny Chancer" by The Bar-Steward Sons of Val Doonican?

dustabsorber · 25/08/2026 16:02

The Beatles, Ok, but not deserving of their god like status. I prefer Crowded House.

SpareVanKeys · 25/08/2026 17:31

Ooh lots of these. You don’t hear them much these days, but Muse. Great howling racket..should sell their music with paracetamol.

Dh likes Wetleg so we’re reminded regularly about the chaise-bloody-lounge in our house 🫩
