I just can't stand...Amy Winehouse.
There I said it.
When I've said this out loud in front of friends, they've behaved as though I've taken a shit in their handbag.
The voice is wonderful I agree. But:

  1. Her shitty attitude
  2. The addictions (yeah it's an illness 🫩)
  3. Bad choices in men
  4. Was she really so outstandingly wonderful that we forgive the unprofessionalism? Late to gigs, arseholed on stage etc etc
I've seen the documentaries. She was vulnerable. Her family/friends/ milkman took advantage.

What about you?

Lauryn Hill also pisses me off.

Adele, don't like her music, her voice makes me feel depressed. She was also unprofessional cancelling shows at the very last minute but it's so adored that was forgiven. Also don't like Amy.

Pieceofpurplesky · 24/08/2026 19:23

Take That. Total mediocre shite. I can't believe people are still paying a fortune to go and see them.

SerendipityCat · 24/08/2026 19:24

I always liked Pink Floyd, but I’m going to be controversial and say they were a sight better when Roger Waters left. He’s such a miserable twat, and his politics are questionable to say the least.

Michael Jackson, even without a proven history of child abuse.

Ed Sheeran is a pointless little ginger whingebag - to borrow an excellent American saying, Elvis Costello could eat a bowl of alphabet soup and shit out a better song than Sheehan’s ever written.

Mumford and Sons. I love folk music, but whoever it was who called them “The Trust Fund Wurzels” was bang on.

Madonna. Might have been relevant once, reeks of desperation now.

Yes I agree with you about Amy Winehouse op. I just think that affected voice is overrated and she looked awful. That 60s thing with the addiction scruff does nothing for me - it’s so uncool. It taints her music.

For different and obvious reasons - Michael Jackson - can’t seperate his music from
what he did and who he was.

Yep, addiction not cool in my world and looking like she needs a wash.
Michael Jackson.. really conflicted! Was a big fan growing up but yeah can't get past the fairly obvious proclivities. Went to see the film earlier this year, enjoyed it, toe tapped through it, felt the ick that there was no mention at any stage of any allegations.

To be honest, anything these days that is autotuned and high pitched just does my head in.

Never liked Annie Lennox.

The professional Aberdonian
I'm from Aberdeen so can say that.
Fucker hasn't been here for years always got an opinion on the city.

Rubydobydo · 24/08/2026 17:41

Ed Sheeran - a drip, probably got As in his maths homework
Sam Smith (can’t bear to even look at him)
Adele - she slurs her words and later so up herself she’s inside out
Barbra Streisand - chalk on a blackboard
and presumably Taylor Swift but I couldn’t name anything she’s done ever but she looks like I wouldn’t like her.

I’m an old soul girl.

I hope that's of the Northern soul variety.

AliceMcK · 24/08/2026 19:38

Coldplay! I have to turn the radio off 😬

Quite a few others have been said
Adel
Ed Sheeran
James Blunt
I wouldn’t know a Sam Smith song if it hit me in the face but can’t stand what I’ve seen of the bloke.
Lily Allen
Spice Girls
Agree with who ever said the Beatles made it because some blokes decided they would, I don’t mind some of their music but they aren’t all that.
Justin Beiber
Oasis - didn’t mind a few songs in the 90s but happy to keave them in the past.
Might be an unpopular opinion but I wouldn’t know a Harry Styles song if I heard one.

I remember going to Australia in 2000 and someone saying to me they found most English bands all whiney and depressing. I’d never thought about it but they were right.

Kate Bush!

Boo

Ihateboris · 24/08/2026 19:56

James Blunt..
I always thought he was a bit smarmy but this article shocked me (in particular the part about him running an escort agency 🤔)

Completely agree but she’s still the best singer in the group 🤣

I actually think Mel B & Emma have better voices, or at least their voice doesn't ruin the song

Raspbellies · 24/08/2026 08:09

Drake. Dull and shit. He doesn't even sound like he's having fun.
He has two good songs, one because he did it with Rihanna and the other because it's a massive sample.

And grew up in a wealthy area of Toronto so hardly a rapper from the streets.

Shakira is just awful. The nasal voice is like nails down a chalkboard.

I agree about Shakira. Awful voice & she has the songs to match!

Don't confuse my breasts with mountains😂😂😂

Olivia Rodrigo

The knock kneed dancing with exaggerated facial expressions. Shite songs too.

In fact most of the new solo female artists from the last few years can reside in the bin!

abracadabra1980 · 24/08/2026 20:36

The Beatles. The Rolling Stones. Beyoncé. David Bowie. Michael Jackson.

I won't hear a word against OR. But Drop Dead is crap

SerafinasGoose · 24/08/2026 21:23

On most of the ones mentioned so far:

Abba were alright, the Smiths were great!

A loud hell yeah to the general lack of love for Cold Play. Their music gives me the sensation of sinking slowly to the bottom of the ocean. The Red Hot Chilli Peppers have the same effect on me.

Also agree that the Beatles are overrated: much preferred the Stones and the Doors.

Blur were marginally better than Oasis (only marginally) but neither the Gallaghers nor Damon Albarn could sing if their arses were on fire.

The Bee Gees. I don't know why they annoy me as much as they do. But they do.

Kasabian. Did they ever do a song that wasn't an 'anthem?' Seen them live in the past so my tastes must have changed.

The Killers. Aptly named because their music makes me want to commit murder.

I couldn't name a Taylor Swift or Adele song at gunpoint. Have heard of most artists upthread but not necessarily heard their music. Maybe after all there is something to be said for a very uncool addiction to 6 Music and old school rock.

I've never heard anything by Bieber either. But I recall Papa Roach on the second stage at Download (forget which year) referring to him as a 'little cocksucker'. Some posters might enjoy that!

Waitingfordoggo · 24/08/2026 08:29

The one with the hostage? 😂

His music is pretty terrible and I don’t like his voice but I can’t help liking him as a person. His responses to people criticising him on Twitter are always pretty funny.

Yep, the hostage who he then eats😬
I wonder if there's any truth in the James Blunt/Hayden P conspiracy theories? It is very bad timing to release such a sick video!

Wishihadanalgorithm · 24/08/2026 21:45

I’m relieved Coldplay and Ed Sheeran have been mentioned so much. Everyone I know seem to love these acts whilst I find them whiny, banal and irritating.

I’d like to add Celine Dion too.

maddiemookins16mum · 24/08/2026 21:48

Texas - dull as dishwater.
Adele - whinge, moan, poor me etc
Stormzy - no, just no

HexInductionHour · 24/08/2026 21:50

@mashpatooties and she ‘forgot to feed’ that canary from her Nan and it died

Gloriousgardener11 · 24/08/2026 22:02

Craig David and his bloody warbly voice!
Just can’t listen to him at all.

BillieWiper · 24/08/2026 22:03

Sladuf1 · 24/08/2026 14:51

I can understand this. I’m convinced it’s the voice that does it for me. However, “I should have bought you flowers…” Do me a favour!

The lyrics to Uptown Junk get on my wick, but to be fair even the intro of that does. I genuinely laughed out loud when I read The Gap Band and others had made copyright claims. It is a blatant rip-off of quite a few songs.
Then again I find most of the songs I’ve heard from him reductive.

Edited

Gawd yeah that song Bruno Mars does that sounds like a rip off of The Police. It's so cringe! 'your sex takes me to paradise'?? 🤣

Anjelika · 24/08/2026 22:03

Robbie Williams - can’t abide the bloke
Coldplay - deadly dull and I had a hard time last year trying to look kind of excited when people said they were going to see them live.
Lewis Capaldi - nails down a blackboard to me.

Haven’t got an opinion either way on Mumford & Sons but “Trust Fund Wurzels”
had me laughing out loud!
