I just can't stand...Amy Winehouse.
There I said it.
When I've said this out loud in front of friends, they've behaved as though I've taken a shit in their handbag.
The voice is wonderful I agree. But:

  1. Her shitty attitude
  2. The addictions (yeah it's an illness 🫩)
  3. Bad choices in men
  4. Was she really so outstandingly wonderful that we forgive the unprofessionalism? Late to gigs, arseholed on stage etc etc
I've seen the documentaries. She was vulnerable. Her family/friends/ milkman took advantage.

What about you?

Lauryn Hill also pisses me off.

Ed Sheeran - a drip, probably got As in his maths homework
Sam Smith (can’t bear to even look at him)
Adele - she slurs her words and later so up herself she’s inside out
Barbra Streisand - chalk on a blackboard
and presumably Taylor Swift but I couldn’t name anything she’s done ever but she looks like I wouldn’t like her.

I’m an old soul girl.

grinandslothit · 24/08/2026 17:44

Harry Styles

MalewhoisLaffinalltheway · 24/08/2026 17:48

All rap that includes the words, Nigga, Bitch, Motherfucker etc.
Amy Winehouse
Bruno Mars. Whiney little shit.
Bieber. Whiney little shit.
The Beatles. A poxy cabaret band.
All trash Metal, Although love lots of heavy metal like Motorhead.
Michael Bolton. Cringe.
Load of others...
Anyone that dislikes Queen should be lined up against a wall and shot! 😂How very dare you!

Oasis. Pair of egotistical brothers with an awful attitude just playing the same songs in one key from the first two albums over and over again.

Yes ! Couldn’t understand people paying hundreds to see them recently- they were crap in the 90s and still crap now.

Thankfully seems not to have stood the test of time but Simply Red and Wet,wet, wet really ground my gears at the time. Inoffensive bland music with weedy frontmen who seemed to fancy themselves as sex gods.

Oh and I never thought The Beatles nor The Rolling Stones were all that.

almondfinger · 24/08/2026 18:01

The Weekend
Harry Styles
Robbie Williams

Switch stations when they come on. Have a visceral dislike for their tunes

I’m glad a couple of posters have said Taylor Swift. I don’t dislike her, I just find her music very forgettable and I wish my colleagues wouldn’t gush over her at lunchtimes - it’s so boring!

On the other hand, I like some of Olivia Rodrigo’s stuff, even though it’s clearly not written for my age group.

Yes, my dds absolutely love OR. I think she's massively talented & to be the headline act at Glastonbury at the age of 22 takes some beating. And she makes it look so easy. I hate her 🤣

Cattenberg · 24/08/2026 18:26

Taylor Swift - I’ve really tried, but as and others have mentioned, I just find the songs forgettable. The only one that ever stuck in my head was “Love Story,”and that could have been any number of “country pop” radio songs from the 90s onwards. She is not a modern day Joni Mitchell!

I’ve heard her songs loads of times on our work radio and my DD has introduced me to some more. But the only one I can remember easily is “Shake It Off”. Most of her songs make no impression on me at all.

MMAMPWGHAP · 24/08/2026 18:27

Adele
Coldplay
Top of my list though, Phil Collins

And The Smiths definitely aren’t miserable.

MrsMoastyToasty · 24/08/2026 18:27

Adele.
Her songs always make me think "Cheer up love, might never happen/could be worse".

friedaklein · 24/08/2026 18:32

Billie Eilish. So maudlin and miserable.

Munchie1965 · 24/08/2026 17:08

Or as I used to sing to myself

"last night you were in my room and now my bedsheets smell like poo ooh wah ooh wah"

Made the song more bearable 😀

Edited

I prefer your version and spat my coffee out laughing when reading that!

You’ ve brought back a memory. A colleague, who was born in 1994, couldn’t wait to tell me she had bought tickets to go and see Oasis. My reaction was as tactful as I could be, but she looked a bit deflated after my reaction. I think she thought I’d be impressed 😄! Having lived through it at the time though, my opinion about them remains the same now as it did then: there were plenty of better bands about.

Meant to say in one of my earlier posts too that I also can’t see why Pink is so revered. I’m sure she’s nice enough as a person but her music doesn’t stand out at all.

TherapistInATabard · 24/08/2026 07:31

I promise I thought this before the weird obsession with rubber, but I can’t stand Sam Smith’s voice.

I can’t either.

See also- Sting.

TheLette · 24/08/2026 18:44

Taylor Swift. She is just so generic and saccharine nice, and I find her music annoying and blah. But alas I have two daughters and an therefore doomed to listen to her tunes.

GellerYeller · 24/08/2026 18:45

Mika- squeaky tosh.
Florence and her ‘Machine’ can do one I’m afraid. All that faux-ethereal posturing and floating around in wafty dresses. Just no.
Another Smiths defender here. A lot of the misery is tongue in cheek.

Nincompoo · 24/08/2026 18:47

Mel C

Her voice is like nails on a blackboard. I have no idea how she’s ever sold even one record, let alone been on stage.

I could have written this. She was always known as having the best voice in the SG. For me, she ruins every record of theirs. It's a shame as she seems like a lovely person

Shhhhitsmagic · 24/08/2026 07:41

James Blunt. Anyone seen his new video? 😱

His Twitter posts are epic though.

AndSomeForFancyDress · 24/08/2026 18:58

Neil Young - that whiny, nasal voice is like nails on a blackboard. And Bob Dylan with all his mumbling...

HappiestSleeping · 24/08/2026 19:01

I see I'm not the only one who thought that about Blunt's twitter posts.

The interesting thing here is that it is a matter of taste, which is what makes the world go around. I agree about Taylor Swift, I didn't realise that she had more than one song out (I sound like my parents). Ed Sheeran, talented musician, but I don't own any of his albums (or play him on spotitube or whatever the modern equivalent is). Oasis were good live but not anything else.

I would disagree about Queen although I can understand why people might think that. Live they were excellent and they are the only band where all members have written a number 1 hit, but not to everyone's taste.

Quite a few of the rest I couldn't name a song, or pick them out of a line up.

However I would quote the great Lemmy and say "although it isn't my taste, I would defend their right to play it. To the death"

Theyreeatingthedogs · 24/08/2026 19:02

Cliff Richard

bananaobama · 24/08/2026 19:04

Completely agree but she’s still the best singer in the group 🤣
