I just can't stand...Amy Winehouse.
There I said it.
When I've said this out loud in front of friends, they've behaved as though I've taken a shit in their handbag.
The voice is wonderful I agree. But:

  1. Her shitty attitude
  2. The addictions (yeah it's an illness 🫩)
  3. Bad choices in men
  4. Was she really so outstandingly wonderful that we forgive the unprofessionalism? Late to gigs, arseholed on stage etc etc
I've seen the documentaries. She was vulnerable. Her family/friends/ milkman took advantage.

What about you?

Lauryn Hill also pisses me off.

Harry Styles. Sorry I just think he has no substance. Most of his songs are a bit shit he cosplays at being out there and quirky it all seems like an act. I think he queerbaits a bit too.

Yes! He's a self licking lollipop! And his whole I'm crazy famous and rich but look I'm a normal guy who goes places on the train on my own!!

‘Self licking lollipop’ 😂

bitontheobtuse · 24/08/2026 13:43

Annie Lennox.

Solo singer/songwriter/guitarists and their self-absorbed navel-gazing 'meaningful' monologue lyrics.

Hard agree. I’m sure they’re lovely people, blah, blah, but god the music is shite.

I love Coldplay, ive seen them 3 times live and it was amazing. ....
....but the world cup half time concert was just about unforgivable! 🤣

God, yes, Annie lennox. Never saw the point of her.

Oasis. Talentless idiots who can’t sing.

You've over stepped the mark now !!

Additup · 24/08/2026 13:58

U2, I genuinely don't understand how they fill stadiums with their terrible dreary tunes.

TheDogsMother · 24/08/2026 13:58

Abba

Beautiful South. Loathe and detest their plinky plinky twee style and always have done.

Oh yes and them. Their current track is a whisker away from Chas and Dave.

Used to love Beyonce when she was in destiny's child but these days I can't stand her!

I don't get the adoration for Beyonce at all. There's the odd song I don't mind, but find her mostly very mediocre.

Jess Glynn

Like nails on a chalkboard

Cattenberg · 24/08/2026 14:16

I’m glad a couple of posters have said Taylor Swift. I don’t dislike her, I just find her music very forgettable and I wish my colleagues wouldn’t gush over her at lunchtimes - it’s so boring!

On the other hand, I like some of Olivia Rodrigo’s stuff, even though it’s clearly not written for my age group.

inkgirl · 24/08/2026 14:20

To be honest I don't like anything rnb, they're talented but just not for me

Sladuf1 · 24/08/2026 14:44

I’ve definitely found a thread with my kinda people!

I can relate to so many points you’ve all made so far. I’ve been telling myself I have impossibly high standards for most music released after I turned 21 (back in 2007), and I have a really eclectic taste in music. It isn’t just me.

Taylor Swift - I’ve really tried, but as @Cattenberg and others have mentioned, I just find the songs forgettable. The only one that ever stuck in my head was “Love Story,”and that could have been any number of “country pop” radio songs from the 90s onwards. She is not a modern day Joni Mitchell!

Coldplay - as others mentioned, clearly talented but so many of their songs are dreary or, in my view, little better than elevator music. I don’t think Chris Martin’s high register works at all either! That bit in “Fix You,” when he sings, “stuck in reverse?” 😱 They hit the big time when I was a teenager and I swear I was the only person at school my age who liked so-called, “guitar bands,” who couldn’t understand the appeal.

Ed Sheeran - a case of lucky he was around in the “right” era, in my opinion. I don’t think he’d have enjoyed anywhere near the level of success if he’d been around in the 80s or 90s with a lot more competition on the singer-songwriter front. Plus the fact we seemed to have more bands than solo artists back then. My best mate and I call him Ned Sherrin. For me the lyrics in “Shape of You” are some of the cringiest we’ve had since Des’ree’s “Life:” - “and now my bed sheets smell like you.” 😖

Mimimayhem18 · 24/08/2026 07:13

Bruno Mars gives me unexplainable rage! I have to turn the radio off whenever I hear him.

I can understand this. I’m convinced it’s the voice that does it for me. However, “I should have bought you flowers…” Do me a favour!

The lyrics to Uptown Junk get on my wick, but to be fair even the intro of that does. I genuinely laughed out loud when I read The Gap Band and others had made copyright claims. It is a blatant rip-off of quite a few songs.
Then again I find most of the songs I’ve heard from him reductive.

Jeezo, they have NEW stuff out? FFS, I thought they'd given up in the mid-2000s.

Edited

Or as I used to sing to myself

"last night you were in my room and now my bedsheets smell like poo ooh wah ooh wah"

Made the song more bearable 😀

Heyhelga · 24/08/2026 17:14

Oasis. Pair of egotistical brothers with an awful attitude just playing the same songs in one key from the first two albums over and over again.

mishmashmess · 24/08/2026 17:16

YosoyEduardo · 24/08/2026 08:15

Used to love Beyonce when she was in destiny's child but these days I can't stand her!

Yep, at some point she decided to give up singing and just honk over backing music. Why???

HoppityBun · 24/08/2026 17:22

RC1623 · 24/08/2026 08:06

Will probably be shot down for these but… Queen and ABBA 🫣

😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳😳

HorseandHeron · 24/08/2026 17:24

Janelle Monae. Her voice is so weedy. I have never understood the hype. She wouldn't cut it as a jobbing back up singer, so how come so many allowances are made for her thin voice as a lead artist?

TherapistInATabard · 24/08/2026 07:31

I promise I thought this before the weird obsession with rubber, but I can’t stand Sam Smith’s voice.

Yeah, can’t stand him full stop. Total diva (friend knows him well) with a strangely high voice.

Greenjersey · 24/08/2026 17:28

Controversial one - The Smiths , or specifically Morrisey. Miserable songs sung by a miserable man.
I read a novel, can't remember what it was, in which one of the characters didn't like The Smiths. I laughed out loud and woke OH up .
Ed Sheeran, very dull.
Rap in general.

BillieWiper · 24/08/2026 17:30

Winehouse had one boyfriend who was famously an arsehole. The others she dated were perfectly reasonable decent blokes. And I don't see why someone being an addict would make you hate them?

I agree it was frustrating watching her seemingly falling apart before our eyes but that elicits sympathy in me as opposed to hatred. So I'm not in agreement with you really about her.

I don't like Taylor Swift. I can't stand her music and her style.

Another one I can't stand is Geri Halliwell. She's such a bullshitter. And that awful simpering way she hangs like a limpet from her posh husband and wears nothing but white. Plus she can't sing or write or present to save her life.

Robbie Williams is another megalomaniac with very limited talent. I'm not fond of him at all.

Weeellokthen · 24/08/2026 17:33

Bruno m
Pink
Jess glynn cos she sounds like a demented sheep
Oasis cos Liams got a whiny voice
Sam Smiths just annoying
Dua Lipa, just don't get it 😂
