northernsoul · 06/06/2008 21:58

fmf sorry
Never seen once..will look out for it.
I do like that song. we may have digressed a tad but it is all educational

fullmoonfiend · 06/06/2008 22:00

watching the film takes that song from being rather nice to utterly heart-rending...

northernsoul · 06/06/2008 22:01

Ahem back to the task in hand.
Another belter is Fink he is on the warp label
The album is called Distance and Time and its bloody brilliant

OverMyDeadBody · 06/06/2008 22:04

I'm seeing a theme emerging northernsoul!

fullmoonfiend · 06/06/2008 22:06

oh she's a beardy guitar groupie like me

northernsoul · 06/06/2008 22:11

Haha i would start linking up Public Enemy but i dont want to scare anybody off.

fullmoonfiend · 06/06/2008 22:18

darling people, thank you for the music

  • shit, bit Abba-resque, that!

I feel all glowy now...off to bath, bed, book.

northernsoul · 06/06/2008 22:25

Ooh forgot about Abba, you cant beat a bit of Fernando
Enjoy your new beardy music, i'm about to do the same.

OverMyDeadBody · 06/06/2008 22:29

lol

Thanks for sharing the music, has been good!

Next time let's move on from the beardy guitar tearjerkers onto more raw stuff

OverMyDeadBody · 06/06/2008 22:29

But no abba

northernsoul · 06/06/2008 22:44

Raw it will be, not a scrap of facial hair or sequinned jumpsuit in sight

MargaretMountford · 06/06/2008 23:32

thanks for the Bon Iver link - hadn't come across him before. Love Nick Drake,of course.
Am also v fond of Boo Hewerdine

CatIsSleepy · 07/06/2008 07:46

just caught up with this thread

talcy i do like the new pornographers

and re dresden dolls- the lead singer looks a leetle bit the way I picture you if that's not too worrying for you

really liked the first Death Cab for Cutie song

amd going to to get me some new music...

CapnTaLcY · 07/06/2008 09:45

apologies for the hijack asicsgirl....

asicsgirl · 07/06/2008 11:51

morning all! am still working my way thru all the suggestions... thanks again

like the dresdendolls one tho' it REALLY reminds me of something... then again as martin gore once said, everything sounds like something...

the dresdendolls singer sounds like lene lovich! just showing my age now

skidoodle i'm a bit scared of portishead since their 'difficult' (i.e. downright unlistenable) 2nd album, tho' love dummy of course, even if it is inextricably linked to jack davenport in my head now lol re babies and rocksteady. ds1 used to love ska. so far ds2 (4 wks) is mainly liking steely dan!

quite interesting how all the suggestions got more mellow/ low-key as the evening went on... a bit like some parties (as if i can remember what parties are like!!!)

i would welcome some more 'raw' stuff omdb! and who mentioned public enemy? yes yes!!

I was so restrained in not just linking straight to the Levellers

fullmoonfiend · 07/06/2008 12:03

my children discovered a band called yellowcard all by themselves and I'm quite proud - I would have loved them when I was 10 too...

in case you're interested

asicsgirl · 07/06/2008 12:13

yellowcard are like tweenie version of linkin park! that's intended as a compliment

OP posts:
fullmoonfiend · 07/06/2008 12:55

I know That's why I'm quite proud! and real gee-tars and stuff!

(from our influence they also especially love The Buzzcocks, The Levs, Dreadzone, The Doors, Chemical Brothers and Led Zep)
For themselves, they have 'discovered' the Fratellis, The Killers etc.

fullmoonfiend · 07/06/2008 12:55

oh and ds1 also likes Linkin park!

MargaretMountford · 07/06/2008 16:27

asicsgirl - have you tried The Long Blondes ?

asicsgirl · 07/06/2008 18:51

fmf you have brought your kids up well, you are right to be proud

ds1 will ask for eric dolphy to be put on... that's dp's influence tho'. my input is mostly restricted to singing mista dobolina with made up words... sad i know

mm - just looked for long blondes on youtube. shouty girls - check! jangly guitars - check! looking good so far... thanks!!

OP posts:
asicsgirl · 07/06/2008 18:59

mm apropos your post from ages back (and shouty guitar-toting girls)- i'm now liking this sleater-kinney one

OP posts:
MargaretMountford · 07/06/2008 21:20

yes, love that one - did you see the you tube vid of them doing Rock Lobster cover ?
Different altogether but charming and very pretty is Au Revoir Simone
