I just wanted to start a thread where fans can share their favourite things about George. Share video links, lyrics, rare footage. Tell us why you liked him. Have you met him? Share your memories. Anything really.

Please, no speculation about how he died here.

I bloody worshipped him from being about 12 years old. I remember liking Wham! music and hearing it at a youth club I went to, and then one day I saw his picture in my dad's Daily Star and it was LOVE! It was 1984.

I've just shared this clip on another thread, I think it's one of the sexiest performances I ever saw him do, I love the dance moves in this.

There was nothing new in the channel 5 documentary- it wasn't even really about his last days- most of it was spent recapping the press scandals and the only interview footage shown was the ITN one where he was so angry about the media intrusion and lies about his sex life. Poor George- I really hope someone manages to make a great tribute show one day!

Only seen the second half so far but agree, it was not as billed. The last thing George said in the previously untransmitted interview- words to the effect of 'the music will last, this crap will go' seemed to my mind, to go against the premise of the whole programme, which mostly seemed to concentrate on the 'crap'

CeeBeeBee · 25/03/2017 19:37

I see Andrew is not at all happy with it and has referred to it as contemptuous and reprehensible piece of voyeurism. I've not watched it myself but I think I'll give it a miss.

LoveMySituation · 25/03/2017 20:59

You're really not missing much ceebee, I think most fans will know the story backwards by now. They didn't dig up anything new

LoveMySituation · 29/03/2017 14:50

It is being reported that the funeral is happening now. Fadi there.

EachandEveryone · 29/03/2017 16:16

Yes rush hour as well. I hope it was peaceful. I'm so glad he's been put to rest.

Fresta · 29/03/2017 19:57

Such a relief to know it's all over. RIP George x

I'm glad to hear it. Rest in peace, dear George.

LoveMySituation · 31/03/2017 18:26

I've been amazed at just how private they've managed to keep it, away from the media vultures. The grave won't be on the Highgate tour either. Heard Father figure today, in amongst artists that are all still alive, felt weird (and sad) He can rest well now, in peace

EachandEveryone · 31/03/2017 19:10

It won't be on the tour and you can't linger they make sure you leave. I guess if you are amongst the thousands that have relatives there you could go for a walk. I was there where his service was ten days ago it was a very small peaceful chapel. I wonder if they cancelled the tour they day.

This was on Radio 2 this morning, a surprisingly good version of Careless Whisper by...James Arthur! The sound quality is not great, but I thought it was pretty good so thought I'd share it with you all.

But wondering why Kenny is talking to the sun...

Fresta · 07/05/2017 12:44

It's hard to understand why he would talk to The Sun, but I guess they must have offered a significant amount for the charity in order for him to agree. I wonder of the family have given him their blessing for this interview too. Maybe he's playing The Sun at their own game, using them, getting his view across before they print more vile stories from less reputable sources.

He would have been 54 today :(

Exciting News Alert! There is going to be a new single released which will air tomorrow morning on Chris Evans's breakfast show at 9am.

What do you think of the single Fresta?

Fresta · 22/09/2017 14:32

I like the new single- it always was a great track, but I like the fact that George's vocals are more up front and prominent in the new version. I just love that exasperated sigh halfway through! Smile

On Radio 2 on Wednesday at 10pm, there is George's final interview with Kirsty Young. It won't be on iPlayer afterwards unfortunately

LoveMySituation · 01/11/2017 18:41

It's on later

Fresta · 01/11/2017 22:12

I'll be listening. I'm recording it.

What did you all think of the Freedom documentary?

OP posts:
Fresta · 02/11/2017 08:39

I think if I wasn't such A die-hard fan I would have thought Freedom was great. However, other than the little home videos of Anselmo it didn't really offer anything new. The celebrity interviews were mostly flippant and uninsigtful and I wasn't really interested in what they had to say. I would love to have seen interviews with his family, Andrew, Pepsi and Shirlie or DC Lee, even Shirley Lewis would have been great. David Austin didn't give much away either.

The radio interview last night was slightly better. I do think he sounded a bit odd in parts though and it was annoying interspersed with lots of music and narration from Kirsty. It had been heavily produced and chopped around to my ears.

I would say listening to the interview that George had found it very hard to move forward with his life. The emotion and anger felt about that period in the 1990s was obviously still with him. The self analysis was painful at times and to be honest we've heard it all before.
