Music that makes you cry when you just think about it, let alone listen to it?

Mine is the theme tune to the 70s tv series Black Beauty. The closing credits with the black horse galloping through the wheat field.

Sheesh, I am getting all silly just typing that.

I would definitely cry if I were to see/hear it.

Nimrod.
My lovely old Pop. Gone 2008, always loved. WW2 Officer, brilliant Grand Pop, devoted husband. Lego genius, happy gardener, maker of soup. He loved us all, and we loved him, so much. So hard to hear this music.

Yy to Song to the Siren, Bright Eyes and Landslide. They all get me in floods.

I'd add I Can't Forget, Joan of Arc, Hey That's No Way to Say Goodbye, Anthem, If It Be Your Will, all by Leonard Cohen.

I Know It's Over, Asleep and I Won't Share You by The Smiths.

Dive for your Memory and The Wrong Road by the Go Betweens.

We Could Send Letters and Killermont Street by Aztec Camera.

The Whole of the Moon by The Waterboys.

Are You Ready to be Heartbroken by Lloyd Cole and the Commotions.

Ocean Rain by Echo and the Bunnymen.

All bring a tear to my eye and remind me of lovely summer indie discos in Glasgow in old clubs that don't exist anymore, like the RAFA Club and the Woodside Social.

Fix you - Coldplay.

Still Fighting It - Ben Folds.

Both since the birth of DS1. I can't drive if they are playing.

Twunk · 08/01/2014 22:35

"Wires" gets me too (DS2 was prem and then had seizures)

Now it's snow patrol "chasing cars" as was in my head the few days after same son was dex with leukaemia. We were just laying there, forgetting the world

Mintyy · 08/01/2014 22:36

Oh dear me yes, that music at the end of the Incredible Hulk Sad.

For some reason I associate Barbers Adagio for Strings completely with grainy black and white footage from the WWI trenches. Is there a reason for that, does anyone know?

Puff The Magic Dragon, I can't even sing it to myself without getting goosebumps Blush it's had this effect on me since I was little and I am not really sure why.

Jellytotsforme · 08/01/2014 22:37

Living years and Jerusalem as well

sparklysilversequins · 08/01/2014 22:37

REM - Automatic for the people album.

I was utterly head over heels in love with someone who left me to go back to his ex. That was "our" album, we listened to it constantly. My heart was broken. We got back together a while after but I have never been able to listen to that album and be reminded of how painful that time was.

mrsjay · 08/01/2014 22:38

thank you martha Smile

WillYouDoTheFandango · 08/01/2014 22:38

You'll never walk alone. It was played at the funeral of a 19yo friend. DP's a Liverpool fan too, even he used to cry when he heard it for the first couple of months after the funeral.

Heartbeat by buddy holly was played at my uncle's funeral. The coffin was carried in to it. I was really surprised that they played it and then my mum said "He bloody loved the programme heartbeat!" It made me do that deeply unattractive laugh-cry that makes snot run down your face. I still get a weird mixture of choked up happiness/sadness when I hear it.

neverputasockinatoaster · 08/01/2014 22:39

Fix You - Cold Play.

because I wish someone would fix me.

Chocolate - Snow Patrol because it is the soundtrack to a dvd of an epic thing I did. I changed so much and gained so many friends that the song makes me emotional.

Lots of hymns - When I was pg with D's I had some bleeding and there are some hymns that just remind me how precious he is.

Chocolou · 08/01/2014 22:39

KnappShappeyShipwright · 08/01/2014 22:41

We'll Meet Again, Vera Lynn. Played at my grandmother's funeral.
Puff the Magic Dragon. It's always made me cry, even as a five year old.
Anything by a brass band.

mydoorisalwaysopen · 08/01/2014 22:42

I will always love you - Dolly's version of course.

NeverKnowinglyUnderstood · 08/01/2014 22:43

On the wings of love by Jefffrey Osbourn
it was on a tape I had when my grandparents died within a day or so of each other and I always think of them Gran died on the operating table and Grandad died of a broken heart 24 hours later (no known preexisting medical reason) Sad

"I'm sure that you're an angel in disguise
Come take my hand and together we will rise
On the wings of love Up and above the clouds
The only way to fly Is on the wings of love
On the wings of love
Only the two of us Together flying high
Flying high upon the wings of love"

Fluffyears · 08/01/2014 22:44

Imagine by john Lennon and my immortal (instrumental) by evanescence. The 2nd one reminds me of one of the saddest times of my adult life.
