Music that makes you cry when you just think about it, let alone listen to it?

Mine is the theme tune to the 70s tv series Black Beauty. The closing credits with the black horse galloping through the wheat field.

Sheesh, I am getting all silly just typing that.

I would definitely cry if I were to see/hear it.

It took me many years to be able to listen to The Living Years because of the lyrics and losing my Dad to MS.
Last week I drove into work listening to R4 doing a piece on WW1. They had the Radiohead piece for Harry Patch last WW1 veteran and I ended up going in with very red eyes.
Also Graffiti on the train by Stereophonics, Separate Lives By Phil Collins and Marilyn Martin.

WhereIsMyHat · 15/01/2014 13:39

Eric Clapton, tears in heaven. Can't listen to it, it was bad enough before I had kids but my children have turned me into an emotional wreck.

Also Bright eyes, first day of my life.

Sowain · 15/01/2014 13:45

Lighthouse by patrick watson
Reminds me if my dad, still can't listen a year on.

PlainBrownEnvelope · 15/01/2014 13:48

Puff the Magic Dragon. If I become ruler of the world I shall imprison them and force them to write another verse in which it all comes good for Puff.

MrsPatMustard · 15/01/2014 14:09

These Are The Days of Our Lives by Queen, reminds me of the night we lost my Dad. Still can't listen to it after 20 years....

Tank Park Salute - Billy Bragg

He wrote it about his Dad, he died when he was a youg boy. Totally captures the shock, emptyness and the desparate missing them part of loosing a parent.

I wrote and told him that I loved the song and how it helped me grieve after my Dad died, he wrote back and said thank you to me. I LOVE YOU BILLY BRAGG.

Deathwatchbeetle · 15/01/2014 17:49

A tune on Robinson Crusoe - don't know it's name -the foreign dubbed film in 790's I think it was. I was watching it once and a dog died in it. From them on I found the music very sad.

Also anything by Elgar. I get a bit sniffy during last night of the proms too!

Deathwatchbeetle · 15/01/2014 17:50

Whoops! I mean in the 70's. Not really THAT old.

TowMater · 15/01/2014 18:33

Danny Boy - reminds me of my Irish Grandad

You'll Never Walk Alone - I'm a Scouser, it's the law that I cry when I hear this

To Where You Are, Josh Groban - had never heard it before but my Aunties chose it for my Grandma's funeral, left me in a mess

You to me are Everything, by The Real Thing - this came on the radio in the car as we were bringing our adopted son home for the first time ... "You to me are everything, te sweetest song I could sing.... would take the stars out of the sky for you
Stop the rain from falling if you asked me to.
I'd do anything for you
your wish is my command

I could move a mountain when your hand is in my hand.
Words cannot express how much you mean to me.
There must be some other way to make you see.
If it takes my heart and soul
you know I'd pay the price.
Everything that I possess I'd gladly sacrifice...." Am howling now...

IShallCallYouSquishy · 15/01/2014 18:39

The first time (ever I saw your face)

Had me sobbing uncontrollably without fail. I know it's about love but I always think of my DD. The first time I saw her face, kissed her, had her fall asleep in my arms.

TheLostWinchesterWife · 15/01/2014 19:30

My Immortal by Evanescence. Makes me thinks of my 3 angel babies. Cannot listen without crying.
Time to Say Goodbye..Andrea Bocelli played at my wonderful Granda's funeral.
Goodbye my Lover James Blunt. Cannot listen to any of these while driving asdI'd crash!

sicily1921 · 15/01/2014 19:54

Sort of agree Op with the Black Beauty, this depresses me as it reminds me of Sunday evenings, not good when you're of school age.

Agree with Robinson Crusoe music from the 70s Beetle but then I always think 'Here Come the Double Deckers' and 'The Banana Splits' in the next breath and that cheers me up. Anyone mid forties will know what I mean!

skorpion · 15/01/2014 20:04

Peter Gabriel's Book of Love
Leonard Cohen's Famous Blue Raincoat
Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here

Deathwatchbeetle · 15/01/2014 20:11

Yay Sicily! I do remember Double Deckers and Banana Splits! Fantastic! (I am nearly mid fifties).

Restrainedrabbit · 15/01/2014 20:21

Barbra Streisand singing "Somewhere".
My Dad loved the theme music from the movie Hatari and when I hear it I can see his face lighting up in pleasure.
