Yes sorry I meant on their own. People will also need a 4 point score to qualify

I slightly worried there for a moment as my DH has 2x4s and a mix of 2s and 3s. Although god knows if he would keep the 4s if reassessed under the proposed new system. He is on a 10 year light touch review, so who knows what will happen.

Does anyone know when the vote is happening? It's awful leaving people in limbo like this (although I suppose that's the plan)

Just seen this in today's Times

The changes, which have prompted a backlash among Labour MPs, are due to be voted on before the end of the month. However, disability claimants could be given more time to seek support as part of a series of tweaks to the proposals to soften the blow, which could be announced as soon as this week.

I expect he should keep them unless they can show some kind of improvement

I think the scale of ppl who are on benefits / sick leave with MH problems creates resentment in those picking up the slack at work / paying into the system, which gives support to these cuts.

If people could get access to MH services in a timely manner, then a vast number of people would not have ended up so ill, and in need of benefits. Those services need to be accessible, and ongoing in some cases. Not just talking therapy for a couple of sessions, etc.

I agree and it isn’t my opinion but I am trying to understand the other side of you get what I mean.

I think those who have a high level of need and support are not always “visible” or “heard” so many people forget about them and see this as a crack down on benefit fraud and not what it could actually mean for the most vulnerable

I see, yes I agree with the points you make in your post. I personally think that the fallout will be great, if they go ahead with these changes, and a lot of disabled people will be left worse off. Trying to target a few, will hurt many. The Government has got this really wrong, imo.

caringcarer sorry to hear that, that's awful. Maybe they can qualify for some kind of disabled student allowance via the college?

He's always been to a special school and has IQ under 75. It's heartbreaking because I will have to be the one to tell him he can't have things once his LCWRA is taken away. He just won't understand.

Orangesandlemons77 · 08/06/2025 17:10

It's a bit ironic that apparently the Conservatives are going to vote against the cuts, along with the other parties except Labour

Indeed, I am in no way excusing what Labour are planning to do, But it is not lost on me, the fact that the Cons are the same party, that implemented the rubbish system, that is PIP, which has caused so much anguish to people, in the first place.

The amount being paid out in benefits is unsustainable, In any case there will need to be cuts to pay for increases in defence spending. The money has to come from somewhere.

Oh I know what, let’s take it from the sick and disabled. Less likely to be able to do anything about it, and hopefully we will kill some of them off in the process. Will save us even more money.

I can think of better ways to generate income for defence spending.

It is a waste of time engaging with that poster, they are a keen disability benefits basher😡

The problem is the meaning of disability. Is being anxious about getting a job a disability. That's the root of the problem. Life is hard and stressful for many many people. Should they all be on PIP and disability benefits.

Just ignoring 'that' poster again

Wonder what it means by 'tweaks'

I thought that disability cuts would be addressed. The fact of increase in new claimants (perhaps due to Covid and inability to receive timely care) should not mean that existing claimants should lose benefits? Forget cost - what is the rationale for reducing points with no improvement or not looking at the total and requiring 4 points in one area.

It seems like we have been waiting for clarification but received none.

3rd july apparently. Just hope enough MPs vote against it. Rachel is going to kill thousands with these cuts, she needs removing.

bestcatlife · 12/06/2025 18:02

Agree, Reeves and Kendall are evil.

bestcatlife · 12/06/2025 18:04

They're keeping quiet in the hope the public will forget about it and they can push it through quietly.

Interesting that the Vagrancy act has been scrapped, presumably in preparation for the upcoming rise in homelessness.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/06/2025 11:50

In the paper today- wow what generosity

Disability claimants will keep their payments for three months if they no longer qualify under tougher rules, as ministers seek to placate angry MPs by promising nobody will lose out until 2027.
Sir Keir Starmer is refusing to back down over contentious reform that make it harder to qualify for disability benefits, but in an olive branch to rebels will promise transitional protections to ensure claimants do not suddenly lose thousands of pounds a year.
Claimants will be given 13 weeks before they lose either personal independence payments or linked carers’ allowance once tougher rules come into effect in November 2026 that will see claimants lose an average of £4,500 a year.

Very generous indeed.

The PIP appeal rate will go through the roof.

justkeepswimingswiming · 13/06/2025 11:54

Oh wow 13 weeks what a joke! I have 4 points on two questions but im highly expecting them to now change the questions and the point system to make it even harder.
Liebour are a joke, they want us dead so they dont have to deal with us.

Already through the roof currently some appeals can take up to two years!

Just in the process here of going to challenge my new 2 point score award - would have left it otherwise. (still got 12 overall) the assessment report is full of mistakes (lies) as usual
