I only saw the headline but saw one in the telegraph about people claiming for acne and writers cramp

Words fail me. Which doesn't happen often.

The debate on the UC and Pip bill – or welfare bill, as some are calling it – is starting.
Lindsay Hoyle says he has selected the reasoned amendment tabled by Rachael Maskell.

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/07/2025 13:59

sorry- to continue

That means it will be put to a vote at 7pm.
If it passes, the bill will fall.
If government MPs vote it down, there will then be a vote on the main motion, that the bill gets a second reading.

Email your MPs. Full inboxes do have an impact. And if your MP isn’t Labour, contact someone in the local party who might be hoping to win the seat at the next election.

I emailed mine, she basically told me to politely f^ck off shed vote anything Starmer puts forward also blocked me off her facebook page.

its okay when these MPs come knocking on doors for voting time, just slam the door in their face.

That's kind of shocking. Sorry you were treated like that.

I didn't even bother with mine - he's a minister, so a lost cause.

On the other hand my union have been sticking it to them and have no intention of going away any time soon.

It reminds me of one years ago when adults were on DLA. There was a headline that people were claiming because they had blisters

I do understand there's a skin condition that causes chronic blisters but the headline wasn't implying that at all

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/07/2025 15:40

Mine is a Lib Dem and they already said they were voting against.

I am trying to understand something. Gvt has said:

All existing PIP recipients will remain on the current system and the proposed changes to eligibility as part of the bill will only apply to new claims from November 2026

So when the Timms review is completed, any changes that come from that will apply to everyone? Is that right? These changes will be separate to the bill?

I'm not sure but wondering the same

Reports that another concession is being offered, relating to the Timms review.

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/07/2025 16:08

Indy- ANOTHER welfare concession is being discussed with Labour rebel MPs including in crisis talks with Angela Rayner

Two Labour MPs say a plan to change the eligibility criteria for PIP may be delayed until after Timms review

Nobody can say because they don't know what the review will say. Whatever the review comes up with will probably require new legislation, so yes, it will probably apply to everyone. But it's only a probably because nobody can predict anything (but we can guess it won't be good).

I’m actually disappointed because I wanted the whole thing to fail.

It may yet, although I am not hopeful. Abstentions are going to be the deciding factor I think - Labour MP's who know it is wrong but won't vote against the government.

PocketSand · 01/07/2025 16:25

Timms said today (I can’t find the link it was either sky or bbc) that the review will look at questions/criteria, assessment and points. I was especially concerned about the mixing with other people criteria in relation to eligibility for those who are physically able but profoundly affected due to mental health or autism and are likely to score 4 points or more. Take away this criteria and they don’t qualify unless also physically disabled. Also the vast majority of the physical disabled also don’t qualify. Hence the vast majority of new claimants plus the vast majority of existing claimants on review won’t qualify for daily living. Which is required as assessment for work capability is being axed. Also carers would lose benefit as those they care for would no longer qualify for daily living.

Save the government money but plunge disabled and their carers into poverty.

Orangesandlemons77 · 01/07/2025 16:26

I suppose it is a way of saving face if they think it might fail, to offer this concession and put it off to this Timms review. Oh dear, I fear a stressful wait for that now.

"Rebels were also promised that the Timms review of the criteria used to assess people for Pip would be a “co-production” with disability groups.

But the terms of reference of the review made clear that there would still be a higher bar for obtaining Pip – new claimants would need a high score of four in at least one of the categories for assessment in order to qualify. However, the review could look again at what abilities and conditions might meet certain scores."

Hmm

Sounds like just a sneaky way of passing this 4 point rule really doesn't it.

Hit it on the head. It is.

I used to work in the public sector, and I can tell you right now that "consultation" means "we will ask for your opinion then ignore it"; and "co-production" means "we will ask for your opinion, ignore it, then claim that you agreed to it because you participated".

Elfunke · 01/07/2025 17:37

I guarantee they will all be physical conditions.

People with severe mental health issues are doomed.

What about those with learning disabilities grrr, the lwrca for under 22s is completely being ignored!
