Yet another thread for neurodivergent mumsnetters.

Lots of links in old threads.

Anyone is welcome, it's not just about autism.

Stupid bloody MN froze and lost my post.

I love your drawing Grin I always assumed the "autistic child hand-flapping" thing people talked about was always an up-and down, fanning-a-fire kind of flap mmm, fire. Presumably textbooks and things were assuming that you either didn't need to know exactly what they were talking about, or that you were working with people with the behaviours described and would know what they were referring to.

If I'm super-excited and don't care who sees, I bounce up and down on the balls of my feet while shaking my hands madly and squealing 😂😂😂

Congratulations Polter!

autisticrat · 06/11/2016 17:50

What was it like?

Wow, your first steak? Grin

Allofaflumble · 06/11/2016 18:28

Congratulations Polter! X :)

FaithAscending · 06/11/2016 18:43

Mm steak! Wow, good for you Polter. Look forward to your report back.

I didn't realise how much I stimmed because I associated it with hand flapping. I bite the skin at the sides of my thumbs. I plait and unplait my hair. I have bristley hairs on my cheeks which if I find growing again, I have to pull them out.

DD is being very hard work at the moment. I suspect down to tiredness but she's impossible! Put her to bed early.

BigDamnHero · 06/11/2016 18:48

Polter Shock

We have a leak in the kitchen!! Water is dripping from the ceiling. DH says he'll make the relevant phone calls tomorrow but this is going to mean people in the house and disruption.

Fuck!! I was already completely overloaded from the boys both getting really worked up. I can't deal with this.

BigDamnHero · 06/11/2016 18:49

I've never eaten steak (or any other meat for that matter).

HerRoyalFattyness · 06/11/2016 18:51

Now I want steak! And when you've no money that's not good Grin

PigPigTrotters · 06/11/2016 18:55

Congratulations Polter Flowers
So happy for you.
I'm almost as excited to hear about your first steak experience as I am to hear a breakdown of your ADOS Grin
I've broken my diet to have apple crumble in celebration (poor excuse but it works for me!).

I did one, and just felt really awkward the whole time - did you feel the awkwardness?

I relate.

I'm not sure how anyone could react "correctly" in an ADOS - for me, that was part of the trouble; it was so artificial it was impossible to properly infer the correct behaviour. And they give no feedback to tell you whether you're getting it right either Grin

WELL DONE for getting through it! :)

I see that… I guess what it is is that I still somehow feel that everyone's pretty much like me Grin and is likely to struggle to work out what to do when all the cues are taken away. Because how would you know how to behave without those cues? Grin

Will you get a written report?
