Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?
- cost (very broke at the moment so tea, squash or water for non-alchoholic drinks)
- sugar (for the sake of my teeth as well as waist line)
- competition - where i have bought an alchohol alternative i have bought Shloer or high-fruit squash instead
Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?
The best thing about the range is that all the drinks are free from additives like aspartame that taste foul, the packaging (particularly of Apple/Peartiser) is attractive and marks it out as a higher-end product, they aren't too fizzy (bubbles in mouth fizzy = good, bubbles up nose fizzy = bad, what you expect from cheaper pop)
Taste wise really great though mor detail on that...
Peartiser - delicious real pear flavour that DH described as 'Conferencey' - tasted just like a good quality cider without the booze!
Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?
The 'Fruitiser' botles were not clearly branded, the same stle of logo as the other two would be clearer and more attractive, also flavourwise apple really dominated he taste, I would have liked more 'mango/pomegranate' and more 'raspberry' - i felt these were more 'apple with a hint of ...' flavours. Husband liked Pomegranate best though agreed could be a bit less appley.
Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?
i drank our sample pack watching the world cup on baking hot days whilst husband drank beer...very nice alchohol substitute, and lovely to cool off in hot weather.
Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?
they seemed to go well with BBQ food (well, pork & apple is an obvious combo!) though i drank them mostly with crisps...
Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?
Husband and brother did - Husband loves Appletiser from his childhood, and really thought the pear one a great addition, though liked Pomegranate best of all (he wondered if orange coloured bottle or better labelling would make i look more like an 'appletiser' variant. Brother - thought they tasted really great, fruity.
Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?
shloer has been my historic non-alchoholic adult drink of choice - partly because we used to have it as kids in lieu of wine, (or mixed with wine, or as part of a slightly alchoholic punch) and partly because it has been on buy-one-get-one-free...
like Appletiser it is not so fizzy as to mark it as a childs drink, and as it is grape juice at least looks like wine. I have noticed also 'Bottlegreen' Ready to drink bottles that are very similarly packaged though not tried due to price. Tescos own rane of fizz drinks includes some possible competitiors in the form of eg 'morelo cherrry fizzy juice drink ad 'scottish raspberry' though these are in plastic bottles and slightly more fizzy/ not all-juice drinks so possibly appeal to a slightly different market - they still serve the same purpose of booze-substitiute.
Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?
haven't noticed any recent TV advertising for appletiser, so possibly an ad-campaign along the lines of the Magners one? (though with more children and less of a 'pub garden' more of a 'home garden' feel - emphasising the freshness, fruitiness, summery-ness, wholesome nature of the product whilst selling as suitable for both kids and adults.
Packaging - Fruitiser needs work! looks like a mock-up blank, rather than a finished item - should look more like the Appletiser with different colouring to flag to the consumer it has a different flavour.
liked the packaging of Appletiser and Peartiser (though poss give 100% juice more prominence?)
Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?
As well as the above advertising campaign - supermarket promotions (money off, BOGOF, in-store tasting), combined with good placement online,on TV and in magazines - your 'USP' for me would be that your products are 100% fruit juice, which many higher-price fruit drinks are not.
Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?
Yes. Especially the Peartiser one.
