Many thanks for taking part in the Appletiser product test - please find below the questions that Appletiser would like you to answer. Please add your feedback once you've been able to try the drinks.

There are a number of questions as Appletiser are so keen to know what you think - please feel free to use these either as a prompt - telling us your overall views using these as a guide, or to answer each question individually.

If you have any other comments please add them below - they genuinely would like to know how they could improve on both the product and how it is promoted to both women such as yourself and to families.

Everyone who adds feedback to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky winner will win a £250 voucher for the store of their choice.

Thanks and good luck

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

I used to drink Appletiser a lot when I was younger, it was one of my favourite drinks, but I have struggled with my weight over the years and nowadays I don't really drink much fruit juice. I have recently lost a lot of weight with Slimming World and juice is not something they encourage as it can be high in calories

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

The bottles are attractive, I liked the fact that it was natural fruit juice without additives. My favourite flavour was the raspberry and pomegranate, it was very refreshing and not too sweet.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

I didn't like the Mango,Mandarin and Apple flavour as much as the others, it was drinkable but seemed to have a slightly strange aftertaste

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

Because of the price, and the fact that they are slightly higher in calories, I think they would be a treat when entertaining friends or family eg for Sunday lunch

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

I think all the flavours would be ideal to serve with a cold buffet in the summer, but would be fine with a hot meal as well. The pear would be delicious with a chocolate dessert.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

My children tried the apple and the pear and really enjoyed them. My friend shared the raspberry and pomegranate and thought it was delicious. Only I tried the mango and mandarin flavour.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

I think the Appletiser drinks would compare very well to Shloer or supermarket own equivalents, I don't really have a brand preference as they are "treat" products that I seldom purchase.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

It might be good to emphasise that the product is natural, and contrast that to other soft drinks with additives

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

Probably as above to promote it as a natural product, I know when I was pregnant I was keen to avoid additives

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Definitely, and the friend I shared the raspberry and pomegranate flavour with has already said they would probably buy some.

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

Appletiser looks like an "occasion" drink rather than a regular everyday product but for occasions, or Sunday lunch, DH and I would normally drink wine and children drink water, squash or milk generally. .

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

Smart bottle. Good simple ingredients. Apple is the best flavour.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

Worst thing is that the bottle not quite big enough if whole famly drinking it, and it's an expensive way of getting fruit juice.

We liked apple best, then pear. The other two didn't taste of anything in particular, just generally fruity.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

Sunday lunch, other family celebratory meals. And useful for the designated driver.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

I think the apple and pear would pretty much go with anything. The other two are more summery and would suit barbecues, picnics, salad type things.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

Husband liked apple only, but would have preferred it sharper. He is not keen on mixed fruit drinks. Boys (10 and 8) like apple and pear best as well, apple definitely came out on top. 10 year old was very impressed that it looked like champagne and wanted it for Sunday lunch.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

Don't tend to buy fizzy fruit drinks.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

Make the bottle 1 litre. Not really enough to go round if we are all going to drink it.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

Would emphasise the purity of ingredients. And also maybe the celebratory aspect of the fizz - could stand in as useful alternative to alcohol when everyone else is drinking!

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Yes.

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

I used to drink it as a child/teen but tried to convert to more sugar free drinks as got older.

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

Favourite was pomegranate and raspberry, nice flavour and bit different to other things i tend to drink.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

I found the pear one much too sweet.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

Maybe as an alternative to alcoholic drink along with a BBQ meal.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

All of them with BBQ, served chilled on a nice hot day.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

My children tried a small amount. They did not like the pomegranate one at all. Partner tried and same as me pomegranate was favourite.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

To be honest I think I prefer schloer. I think this is because I find it not so sweet.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

I like the bottle and don't think it needs changing. The product is ok. Maybe you could make pear one less sweet (then again I guess although it's not for me some people may like it this sweet?). Marketing wise I don't think I have heard any recent advertising for appletiser. Until now I think the last thing I remember about it was 'appletiser sponser of Friends'

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

I think I would stress the natural ingredients/no additives fact.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Yes. Especially The pomegranate one.

I did enjoy it and would buy it again.

TheJollyPirate · 23/06/2010 07:30

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

Not sure why actually - perhaps because I see it more as a summer drink (andw we have had a lot of winter). Also just not something I think of buying.

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

I really liked the glass bottles which can be recycled. The raspberry and pomegranete one was my favourite and I will definitely buy this one again.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

I found the Peartizer much too sweet for my taste (although my son loved it). I expected to really like this so was disappointed when it was so sweet.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

BBQs or would go well with salads on warm days.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

Again I can see myself and family using it with salads and BBQs. They would be nice as a special non-alcoholic drink when friends call round as well.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

My son and husband tried them. My husband loved the Appletizer one which nobody else got to taste! Thankfully it's one I've had before. My son and I loved the Pomegranete and Raspberry one best but the Mango one was lovely too.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

Not something I usually buy but I would say it compares very favourably. Am not sure that other ranges have the variety of flavours that Appletizer now has.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

I think the bottles could be bigger to ensure there is enough to go round a reasonable sized family.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

I would stress the natural ingredients, the non-alcoholic fizz and the refreshing taste on a hot day.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Yes I would and I will definitely buy this myself - especially the Pomegranete one.

GhostInTheBackOfYourHead · 23/06/2010 08:22

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

Too expensive for my budget these days.

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

I like the smart bottles and the short list of ingredients.Favourite flavour was Pomegranate.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

The cost is quite high. The pear one tasted a little synthetic, like pear drop sweets.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

On a special occasion, like birthdays, Christmas, family meal etc.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

Most food, I imagine, particularly roast meat or a barbecue.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

My children tried them all. DD like the apple one and pear ones best. My adult friend liked the mango.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

I think Schloer would be the closest.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

I love the glass bottles as they are environmentally friendly. A bottle deposit scheme would be good also.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

I would market it as a classy alternative to fizzy pop. Also I believe that the pomegranate one would be a lovely mixer for vodka!

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Yes, indeed.

LooL00 · 23/06/2010 09:35

Give it away at breastfeeding groups on hot days.

Just never thought about it to be honest.

I liked that it tasted quite dry rather than sweet. Liked the pear one.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

PlumSykes · 23/06/2010 10:37

Q1 I don't buy fizzy/soft drink to have at home, and haven't seen it anywhere to buy in a cafe-type place lately

Q2 I liked the apple the best, like the fact that the bottle is glass -more eco, and also feels more luxe.

Q3 I do find it VERY fizzy, and didn't like the mango flavour. I thought it tasted very artificial.

Q4 When I don't want to have an alcoholic drink in a pub/bar.

Q5 I'm not sure they woudl be good with food-except crisps/peanuts/olives etc. The flavours are very strong.

Q6 My daughter thought it was too fizzy by far, my friend, who was on antibiotics and unable to have her usual G&T loved teh pear one.

Q7 I don't really buy other, similar drinks, though am pleased it has no added sugar, unlike Coke etc.

Q9 As a fizzy drink, but without te clours/sweeteners/oyther junk found in other fizzy drinks marketed at kids.

Q10 Yes

notwavingjustironing · 23/06/2010 11:05

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

I always remember Appletiser as overly sweet, and have drunk Bottlegreen Cox's Apple for a long time as it is much dryer.

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

My favourite was the pear. It smells nice and tastes nice. To look at, the bottle is neither here nor there really, but I was pleased to see that it could be recycled.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

As I mention above, my over-riding memory was the sweetness, which I don't think has improved. The pomegranate and raspberry sounded delicious, but it was over-cloying. When I looked at the sugar content, one 250mil gave something like 23% of your daily intake - which I think is a lot.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

With a meal

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

Summer food - salad, BBQ etc

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

My children and my husband both tried all the flavours. The children loved it (although that could be as much of the fact that it was a treat as they don't normally get fizzy drinks). My husband thought it was nice - but he isn't a big fizzy drink person, so he did it out of obligation to me!

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

Bottlegreen, for all the reasons mentioned above.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?
Make it less sweet (can you see a theme here?) Bottles should be slightly larger, there's not quite enough for everyone in the family to have a full glass.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

It's a fresh taste, but I think encouraging thirsty pregnant women to drink something with that much sugar in is quite irresponsible.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

I would recommend that they tried it - but truthfully, after really wanting to be persuaded, I still prefer Bottlegreen because of the dryness. I appreciate that is probably just my personal preference. Can I just take the opportunity to thank you though for this taste test - you put a huge amount of effort into the whole process.

annmar · 23/06/2010 11:07

My daughters tried it. Both liked the apple best. Not so keen on the other flavours.

I would normally buy Schloer for my daughters to drink at a special occasion, but I don't drink it. I would drink Appletiser though.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

The product and packaging are fine. I can't remember seeing any marketing, so perhaps make the brand more visible.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

Try to get it stocked in places like soft play and mum friendly cafes.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Yes, I would.

MrsTittleMouse · 23/06/2010 15:18

Have tried the other flavours now -

Mango, tangerine and apple was nice but quite sweet and I didn't get the flavours of the individual fruits.

My appletiser tasted "off" - there was a distinct musty taste which has really put me off the product generally. Maybe I had a duff bottle.

Raspberry and pomegranate was OK, but again a bit sweet.

Favourite is still the pear.

MamaG · 23/06/2010 18:01

Need to remind folk it's out there, maybe have promotions in supermarkets., bogof etc

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

my nephew had a lot of allergies but could drink appletiser so was a big hit in their house. would perhaps encourage that, point out that although it's "fizzy" it's not as bad as coke!

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

yes

forkhandles · 23/06/2010 18:14

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?
I supose because it's expensive, but I've forgotten about it too.

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?
My favourite flavour was the apple, although the fruitiser ones were really nice. I was surprised, in a good way, that it is just fizzy fruit juice.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?
Peartiser was my least favourite, and the cost is the worst thing.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?
I think if you were having a nice meal or friends round who weren't drinking

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good.
With any food!

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?
The children liked the apple and pear ones, but I drunk most of it!

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?
We don't have a preferred brand but it compares really well, the tastes are clean and not too sweet.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?
Make it cheaper and in bigger bottles.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?
Ephasise it's only fruit juice, and have some offers of reduced price.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?
Yes!

Maranello · 23/06/2010 20:56

1/ didn't really think of it - drank a lot of ginger beer while pregnant, then switched to diet coke in my sleep-deprived state once dd was born.

2/ the best thing was that it's just fruit juice and fizz; i didn't actually know that and assumed it would have added-something-or-other in it. favourite flavour was a toss-up between the apple and the pomegranate one. the latter probably just edges it.

3/ i was less keen on the mango/mandarin one as i didn't think it tasted of either particularly. i wouldn't buy that one, but it wasn't actively horrible! the bottles are maybe a bit too small - we got through each one pretty quickly.

4/ well, given how quickly we drank them, perhaps we'd need to ration them! but they seem like a good everyday drink to me.

5/ i had the pomegranate one with salmon (when i'd usually have had a glass of wine). i'd have them with most meals, i think. maybe not curry!

6/ my dh tried all but the mango one. he liked them all (certainly drank a fair bit of them) but said he found them a bit sweet.

7/ appletiser range gets big thumbs-up from me in comparison with other fizzy drinks as it doesn't have anything added to it. i think i've had schloer before, but found it too sweet and syrupy. these ones much nicer.

8/ perhaps stress the 100% fruit juice thing more? ds is only 2 so a little young for this atm (and doesn't like fizz, he says) but i'd certainly give it to older children as a treat. i assume the packaging on the fruitiser flavours is a work in progress? they're a bit plain.

9/ well, they're quite pricey, especially as you (we!) get through them so quickly. special offers? the 100% juice thing (as i might have mentioned already).

10/ yes i would. especially the pomegranate one.

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

  • It dropped off my radar

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

  • Cost fine, bottle nice, and v. refreshing, especially the appletiser and pomegranete flavours (the latter my favourite)

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?
The mango flavour had a strange smell/aftertaste and was too sweet. Disappointed with pear - thought it would be sharper tasting.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

  • at a picnic, or if I was off the sauce (!), or as a mixer.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?
Picnic food or possibly seafood (the apple/pomegranete). Otherwise I would enjoy them solo.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?
Mum and sister loved the pomegranete.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?
Similar to Schloer I suppose. I usally drink coca cola as a soft drink and tonic as a mixer.

  • Make sure the bottles don't leak! Tie-in with Wimbledon or promote as a healthier alternative than, say, fruitshoots!

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

-Promote healthy angle

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

stanausauruswrecks · 23/06/2010 21:26

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?
I'd never tried it before - the name put me off! (Reminds me of Tizer -yuk!)

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?
Really liked the pomegranate and mango flavoured ones. Apple was fine, but didn't like the pear flavoured one.
Amazed that all it consists of is fruit juice and fizz.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

Considering it's just fruit juice and fizz, I felt it was quite expensive. Bottle size wasn't quite big enough to share among all the family (we are 4)
I didn't like the pear flavoured one, was too sweet and felt quite viscous on drinking.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?
IIf I was in the pub as designated driver. Family barbeque, as special treat for the kids if adults are having a glass of wine - eg Sunday lunch

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?
I found it a bit too fizzy to drink with food - preferred to drink it on its own.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?
DS tried the pomegranate- thought it was a bit too fizzy, but then delcared it was fantastic and very tasty, DH tried the Pear, felt it was rather sickly.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?
I don't usally buy carbonated fruit drinks- usually would mix fruit juice with sparkling water.
Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?
I found the entire range very sweet, so for me, it would be adding a bit more water to it(Dh has suggested adding more vodka )
Although the packaging the testers came in was lovely, the design of the bottles is a bit uninspired.I wouldn't look twice at it on the supermarket shelf.
Regarding the marketing, I think you should sack your current team and employ meAlthough I have seen Appletiser advertised on the TV I didn't know what was in it until I applied to test it. 100% pure pleasure didn't really get the message across to me!

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser? -Really push the fact that it is just carbonated fruit juice, and that it counts as one of your 5 a day. Promote it as an alternative to coke etc for kids, and as a more interesting drink for drivers in the pub!

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?
Yes I would.

Thank you for the opportunity to try all the range - we really enjoyed doing some poncy taste testing!

loonyrationalist · 23/06/2010 21:43

Still trying them, we've been dringing them with our evening meal each night. only have mango one to go, (bit worried that I've left that 'til last having read mixed feedback but I'll try to have an open mind ;) )Waffling really just to thread for later

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

n/a

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

pomegranate and raspberry & pear equal favourite

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

liked them all, the mango one was a bit sweet fr me but kids loved it.
Price - a bit high for everyday, but fine as a 'treat'/wine alternative

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

parties/dinner when not drinking alcohol

also get them in for teens instead of coke

I'd have the apple and pear with dinner, chicken, fish but the other two just by themselves.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

children loved them all esp pomegranate . We fought over them!

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

we like them very much. Similar I guess to J2O. They have more flavours but not 'nicer' just different and possibly healthier (I cant actually compare not having any J2) in the house), Possibly competes with Innocent - style and type of healthoer drink?

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

may be sell them in smaller/1 drink bottles or bigger bottles (like J2) does) . Size of bottle too big for one drink, too small for a family

loved the bottles and the packaging they came in - lovely shade of green box etc , really felt clean and fresh and wholesome (I know this sounds daft)
Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

market it as an alternative to alcohol and nicer and healthier than other soft drinks like coke (fruit juice but carbonated) , ie when breastfeeding, with young kids & it is a good drink to have around for teens to try to encourage them to have things other than cider and alcopops. Sophisticated alternative to fruit juice for kids at parties.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

definitely, have given some of the vouchers to friends to try.

Apple, best thing is the taste and the fact it is just made from apple juice so healthy (in moderation)

Highlight the natural ingredient, no added sugar

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends? Yes

BexieID · 24/06/2010 00:03

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons? I usually only get this if on BOGOF or similar

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour? A decent enough drink to make me feel like its alcohol, as it's in a glass bottle. The mango one was nice as was the pear & apple.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on? The raspberry one wasn't so nice, too sweet like J20, which I always have to top up with lemonade!

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range? Christmas, when i'm out and driving or during the daytime, as don't drink alcohol during the day. Oh, and i'm breastfeeding atm so can have Appletiser when DP had his cider or beer.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with? Well I always have to have diet coke when eating chips/have anything with ketchup. Tonght I had macaroni and chips and the pear one was quite nice with that. So would pretty much go with any food, other than breakfast!

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think? My DP did and he seemed to like them all.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why? I think we generally take turns at Christmas and one year buy Shloer and the next year Appletiser.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing? I like the glass bottles, although my raspberry one was leaking when I got it! Promote '5 a day'. I think i've seen cans but seem to have a memory that they are as expensive as the bigger bottles. They should be located in a better area of the supermarket as last time, didn't find them with normal fizzy non alcoholic drinks.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser? I didn't realise it was one of your '5 a day', so would promote that more.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends? Yes

Just to add, I loved the way the bottles were packaged in those green boxes and plan to use mine for keepsakes from the kids

elliemental · 24/06/2010 10:52

I'm now using the nice glass bottles for my homemade elderflower champagne

nomorelostweekends · 24/06/2010 10:59

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

I think I tend to avoid the soft drinks aisle at the supermarket so don't see it to pick it up.

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

Liked them all, probably liked the pear the least though. Like that it comes in a glass bottle.

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

Not as keen on the Pear, though would drink it if offered. I find the bottles don't go very far with a family of 4.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

Sunday lunch, barbecue, drinks for adults at childrens parties etc

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

Mm not sure really. I think the more 'straightforward' flavours of apple and pear better with a main meal, such as pasta. The others better for informal dining like sandwiches, buffet.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

Dp tried a the apple and mango flavours and liked them.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

Probably similar to schloer. I prefer appletiser because its pure juice.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

Think they should look at the intended market - its a bit of an all rounder but probably not the first drink that pops into your head when you think about buying soft drinks for party etc.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

Promote its lack of artificial sweeteners. Though my children won't drink anything with bubbles in, which means they won't try it

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends? Yes, have done.

kveta · 24/06/2010 12:59

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?
I used to drink it as my 'long train journey' treat when you could get cans of it in WH Smith at major Train stations! Haven't drunk it since they only sell bottles now/I haven't had many long journies of late!

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?
Loved most of them, the mango one was delicious - DP and I agreed we could drink a lot more of it! The bottles are attractive, I liked that the ingredients (apart from one) are all just well known fruits - no artificial colourings, flavourings, etc. The raspberry one had a gorgeous deep raspberry scent, although the flavour wasn't as strong/nice as the scent suggested it would be!

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?
We didnt like the peartiser - found it too sweet, and fairly flavourless. Also, what is Aronia, and why is it in your drinks, but not mentioned anywhere except the ingredients list? Additionally, I find them all a bit sweet and would like to water them down with sparkling water (haven't tried this yet) as I normally water down still fruit juices. this is particularly the case for the apple and pear tisers.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?
Like I said before, long train journies! Also nice alternative to alcoholic drinks for parties - I'm breastfeeding at the moment, so not drinking much alcohol, if at all, so it was lovely to have this to drink at a picnic recently!

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?
DP says not with cakes or beer Otherwise, they should go with whatever you'd normally drink still fruit juice with.

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?
DP has refused it in the past as he doesn't drink much fizzy stuff. He liked the two mixed flavours, especially the mango one. He really didn't like the peartiser, and said the appletiser was ok, but too sweet. DS is only 8 months old, and was not impressed with the tiny bit of peartiser he sucked up a straw - but I think that's more to do with him being 8 months old than the product.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?
My mother always gets organic fizzy fruit juices, which I've always found insipid, and these are far nicer. Sadly doubt I'll convert her as she has an irrational loathing of all american companies, coca cola included.
I do prefer the shloer type drinks with food as they aren't quite as sweet as your brands, but it's not a significant preference.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?
lower the price a wee bit! it's extortionate for what it is at the moment.

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?
Advertise it as a good alternative to alcoholic beverages, and the fact that it counts for one of your 5 a day, despite being fizzy.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?
yes, I have done so.

Q1 If you haven't tried Appletiser before, or for a long time, what are the reasons?

  1. cost (very broke at the moment so tea, squash or water for non-alchoholic drinks)
  2. sugar (for the sake of my teeth as well as waist line)
  3. competition - where i have bought an alchohol alternative i have bought Shloer or high-fruit squash instead

Q2 What was the best thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which was your favourite flavour?

The best thing about the range is that all the drinks are free from additives like aspartame that taste foul, the packaging (particularly of Apple/Peartiser) is attractive and marks it out as a higher-end product, they aren't too fizzy (bubbles in mouth fizzy = good, bubbles up nose fizzy = bad, what you expect from cheaper pop)
Taste wise really great though mor detail on that...
Peartiser - delicious real pear flavour that DH described as 'Conferencey' - tasted just like a good quality cider without the booze!

Q3 What was the worst thing about the Appletiser range (including the taste, the bottle, ingredients, cost etc)? Which flavour(s) weren?t you so keen on?

The 'Fruitiser' botles were not clearly branded, the same stle of logo as the other two would be clearer and more attractive, also flavourwise apple really dominated he taste, I would have liked more 'mango/pomegranate' and more 'raspberry' - i felt these were more 'apple with a hint of ...' flavours. Husband liked Pomegranate best though agreed could be a bit less appley.

Q4 On what occasions would you typically drink a product from the Appletiser range?

i drank our sample pack watching the world cup on baking hot days whilst husband drank beer...very nice alchohol substitute, and lovely to cool off in hot weather.

Q5 What foods do you think the different Appletiser flavours would be good with?

they seemed to go well with BBQ food (well, pork & apple is an obvious combo!) though i drank them mostly with crisps...

Q6 Did anyone else in your family, your children, or any of your friends try it? What did they think?

Husband and brother did - Husband loves Appletiser from his childhood, and really thought the pear one a great addition, though liked Pomegranate best of all (he wondered if orange coloured bottle or better labelling would make i look more like an 'appletiser' variant. Brother - thought they tasted really great, fruity.

Q7 How does the Appletiser range compare to other similar drinks? Is there a brand you prefer? If so why?

shloer has been my historic non-alchoholic adult drink of choice - partly because we used to have it as kids in lieu of wine, (or mixed with wine, or as part of a slightly alchoholic punch) and partly because it has been on buy-one-get-one-free...
like Appletiser it is not so fizzy as to mark it as a childs drink, and as it is grape juice at least looks like wine. I have noticed also 'Bottlegreen' Ready to drink bottles that are very similarly packaged though not tried due to price. Tescos own rane of fizz drinks includes some possible competitiors in the form of eg 'morelo cherrry fizzy juice drink ad 'scottish raspberry' though these are in plastic bottles and slightly more fizzy/ not all-juice drinks so possibly appeal to a slightly different market - they still serve the same purpose of booze-substitiute.

Q8 What do you think Appletiser the company do to improve the product, packaging or marketing?

haven't noticed any recent TV advertising for appletiser, so possibly an ad-campaign along the lines of the Magners one? (though with more children and less of a 'pub garden' more of a 'home garden' feel - emphasising the freshness, fruitiness, summery-ness, wholesome nature of the product whilst selling as suitable for both kids and adults.
Packaging - Fruitiser needs work! looks like a mock-up blank, rather than a finished item - should look more like the Appletiser with different colouring to flag to the consumer it has a different flavour.
liked the packaging of Appletiser and Peartiser (though poss give 100% juice more prominence?)

Q9 If you were in charge of selling Appletiser how would you try to encourage more mums, or mums to be, to buy Appletiser?

As well as the above advertising campaign - supermarket promotions (money off, BOGOF, in-store tasting), combined with good placement online,on TV and in magazines - your 'USP' for me would be that your products are 100% fruit juice, which many higher-price fruit drinks are not.

Q10 Lastly, do you think you would recommend the Appletiser range to your friends?

Yes. Especially the Peartiser one.
