We tried the chilli con carne and pulled pork sauces. The flavours of the pulled pork one was fabulous and hubby and I were both picking at the leftovers after we'd finished our dinners! Hubby really liked the flavour of the chilli one too but for me I personally found it a little too spicy (not a big fan of spice!)

The flavour and ease of use were my favourite things. You can't go wrong with a slow cooker meal.

I'd 100% recommend these to my friends for the reasons mentioned above.

Chicken and chorizo stew would be a good one to introduce or maybe Bolognese - always a family favourite

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 04/02/2021 20:41

We tried all our local big supermarkets and couldn't get any.

  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
I liked that the sauces were easy to pour and to get all of the product out, although it’s a shame the packaging isn’t recyclable. It also smelt amazing while cooking which is something I love about using a slow cooker.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
I made the curry for myself and 2dc, we liked the flavour, it was mild enough that everyone could enjoy it. We also liked that it was a smooth sauce, I used passata instead of tinned tomatoes to keep it smooth.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
I would recommend for someone wanting an easy slow cooker meal because they are very simple to use although I didn’t brown my meat and I would advise them to add extras, I think with just chicken and onion in the curry would be quite boring, I added some cubed potato and peppers too,
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Sausage casserole, a coconutty curry, maybe katsu or a Chinese curry sauce, a macaroni cheese sauce and maybe a hunters chicken.

How easy they were! Big time save on busy days

  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?

I think it was how they brought a bit of variety to our midweek meals

  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes, easy to use. Great flavour...especially the pulled pork!

  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?

Something creamy- chicken and mushroom perhaps?

Elliebobtail · 04/02/2021 21:37
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
I loved how easy they were to use. And the recipes were simple.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
The flavour, the flavour of both was delicious but not too much. I tried pulled pork and beef and ale but I will be certainly keeping an eye out for the others to try in future.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
Yes I would. They are just so easy and didn’t take up masses of space in the cupboard. Created a lovely dinner.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Maybe a chicken casserole would be nice!
AnneShirleysNewDress · 04/02/2021 21:53

I haven't been able to find the sauces in any of the local supermarkets.

Jcee · 04/02/2021 22:05
  1. Simple and really easy to do
  2. Enjoyed the flavours - we had the beef and the pork which all the family enjoyed
  3. Yes, as per answers above
  4. Chinese or mexican
VeganCow · 04/02/2021 23:36
  1. Ease of use and time saving
  2. It’s a different idea, saves thinking about ingredients and what to cook. Can plan ahead
  3. I would if the price dropped and the packaging became recyclable. In this day and age it is expected!
  4. A vegetarian/vegan range. These are all designed for meat eaters. We need a chickpea tagine/ veggie or bean hotpot kind of thing
duggerlugs · 05/02/2021 07:42
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces? We tried chilli and beef and ale. They are convenient, easy to store and known brand
  2. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried? My daughter who is 6 wasnt keen but she is fussy when trying new things. My partner and I enjoyed both.
  3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why? Yes. They serve a purpose for convenience and slow cooking is great for families with busy lives.
  4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Sausage casserole, curry but variants of it ie korma etc. Stroganoff or beef bourgignon...most recipes that can slow cook could be converted.
confusedofengland · 05/02/2021 09:29
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces? We weren't keen on them so struggle to think of anything we liked. I suppose the main advantage is that they're fairly easy to use.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried? As above, they are fairly easy to use.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why? No. We found the flavours to be nothing special (my chicken curry from scratch is less mild) & they are more expensive than cooking from scratch & don't save much time. Also the packaging is not recyclable.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced? None. I would not buy this product again.
Backtotheremedy · 05/02/2021 11:39

They haven’t been in stock yet in the supermarket my delivery comes from. Due to shielding a vulnerable family member, I am unable to go out and look.

EightToSixer · 05/02/2021 12:48

We tried 3 supermarkets and couldn’t find pulled pork which we really wanted to try. We tried beef and ale and added in chicken curry as our second choice.

  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
Clear instructions. Not many additional ingredients to buy
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
They enjoyed having a say in a survey!
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
No. I follow a low carb diet and these are quite high in carbs unnecessarily (carbs used as a thickener which isn’t necessary). We didn’t like flavours. We were looking forward to the beef and ale but it tasted very sweet and had no depth of flavour that you’d expect from a slow cooked beef dish. It was quite unpleasant with an after taste. My husband said it seemed like it was cooked in a ‘daddies’ or ‘HP’ sauce. Almost fruity but not what you want for a casserole. Couldn’t get the pulled pork but would try that. The chicken curry was just ok. I can make nicer slow cooked curries from scratch just as easily. Again, it lacked a depth of flavour. It reminded us of school/work canteen curries, it was ok but we wouldn’t but again.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Sweet and sour (not for me due to carbs but it might be nice for the rest of the family) Perhaps an enchilada filling style (slightly spicy tomato based).

Thank you for letting us test these despite my review. I enjoyed the process.

Nicola27 · 05/02/2021 13:57
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
The instructions were very easy to follow. They made a mid-week meal easy by being able to prepare in advance.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
My family liked the beef and ale the best, they thought it tasted similar to what I would make myself.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
Yes, but I did find them under seasoned for my taste, although the rest of my family thought the seasoning was fine, so this may just be me. I think the packs are handy to have in, and I'd recommend them for this reason.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
I am not convinced that the curry is any better after cooking for 8 hours than one I have made from scratch in an hour, but I do think that the beef and ale suited being in this range. I would add similar recipes to the range like chicken casserole, sausage casserole, lamb hotpot etc, things which really benefit from slow cooking to develop their lovely flavours.
LeleWilliams789 · 05/02/2021 15:04
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
I liked the packaging. The instructions were clear and easy to read. They both tasted lovely.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
My husband loved the beef and ale. Said it was one of the best he's had. Was a bit too strong for the kids and myself but I still enjoyed it.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes I would recommend. We really enjoyed the curry one. It was a bit hard to find I had to go to 3 different supermarkets but I can honestly say I will buy this again.

  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?

I’d love some creamy sauces, or a sausage casserole.

Witchymoo · 05/02/2021 15:37
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
I liked the fact they were very easy to assemble , not requiring lots of other ingredients and it cooks itself , you can leave it , forget about it and you have a hearty meal
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
They were flavoursome and it fed 3 adults and a teen easily
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
Yes I would , however , unfortunately no one liked the beef and ale one , I wouldn’t buy that one , I would the chilli con carne . My lot are good eaters but they left the Beef and Ale one one my husband calling it floral he said it had a strange floral taste about it , they literally had a mouthful and rejected it , the chilli one was nice but not enough chilli going on , very very mild. ,it could do with having more of a kick , it was more con carne than chilli con carne , I’d personally add chilli but there were other flavours going on , not bland like some slow cooker recipes
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
A hotpot style one , or Mexican chilli spice one
Mindgone · 05/02/2021 15:50

I’ve tried three different supermarkets so far, and still yet to find them!

lolly2011 · 05/02/2021 16:59

They were easy to use and have a rich sauce.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?

They are easy to use with minimal ingredients

  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes because they are so easy to use

  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?

Chicken Curry, Lamb casserole.

PJ04JCW · 05/02/2021 19:07

Haven't managed to find the sachets yet, where have people bought them from? Will look online and see where stocks them.

DennisTMenace · 05/02/2021 20:40
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
Quick and easy, especially for mid week meals. I love my slow cooker and use it a lot.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
The beef one was tasty and very quick to prepare. Although it said carrot and onion, any casserole veg to hand is fine. I added leek and a leftover packet of chestnuts from Christmas.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
I didn't try the pulled pork or chilli ones as the shop didn't have them. I would recommend the beef one for quick meals, but don't understand why it says to add 500g beef when supermarket packs tend to be 400g. My main issues were that the chicken curry tasted of no spices and had a ludicrous amount of added sugar in. I couldn't tell it was supposed to be curry as could just taste very sweet tomato. Would have been less sugar if I had just poured in the same weight of coke! Also, although the chicken had similar meat weight added as the beef, there were no veg, so would have been still hungry if you expect it to serve 4 adults.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
An actual chicken curry! Any curries really. I also like pork and cider casserole in the slow cooker.
Rockbird · 05/02/2021 20:47

I wasn't in this trial but I picked up the chicken curry sauce this week and we had it last night. Bowls were licked clean, everybody loved it. Looking forward to trying the others.

like7 · 05/02/2021 21:01

Only got vouchers a week ago as post has been very erratic here. However these were not on sale at a big waitrose near us or a local sainsbury, so still hunting. I wonder where they are being sold.

StrangerHereMyself · 05/02/2021 21:52
  1. It was simple, strongly flavoured and had a decent set of ingredients and my fussy teens enjoyed it
  2. DC both wolfed down both dishes - the fact that both were quite sweet and had added sugar may have had something to do with that.
  3. yes I think so. I can make a beef stew to my own taste in the same time but this is fairly foolproof for people who aren’t confident (and who like their casserole quite concentrated) and the pulled pork was better than I could have done myself.
  4. a Moroccan tagine-style stew would be nice
WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 05/02/2021 22:11

We (14 year old DS and I) tried the pulled pork one. We've also got the chicken curry one to try so will report on that when we've had it.

1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
It was quick and easy to chuck in the slow cooker. Other than that i can't honestly say I liked it.

2. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
His reaction was "its alright but the one you usually make is nicer"

3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
Based on the pulled pork one no. I didn't think it had any flavour really and I can make something much tastier without too much effort. (I am a SAHM though so do have plenty of time) It might have been better with something extra added, onions maybe. But that kind of defeats the point imo.

4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Maybe something for fish or vegetarian as DS1 is pescetarian. Something Moroccan maybe. Although based on the one I've tried I might not buy them.

WhatWouldPhyllisCraneDo · 05/02/2021 22:14

For the people asking where we found them. I got them from Morrisons. But online so I couldn't use the vouchers Sad (is there not a way at the moment when we are discouraged from going to shops to have them as online vouchers?)
My mum is physically going to Sainsburys this week so she's going to try and use them there.

I am not going out so rely on online shopping. It’s 9 miles and a bus journey to nearest supermarket!
