Something creamy for chicken perhaps.

Just to say, my vouchers were not accepted in my local large

They were very easy to use and the sauce was thick, even though I did put a few tablespoons of water in with it.

  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
Yes, for the flavour and ease of use, although I was very disappointed by the pouch packaging which is not able to be recycled so that would be a reason why I might not buy it again despite being impressed by the product itself.

BBQ chicken or sausage casserole would be good, also some veggie flavours.
JamieFrasersSassenach · 04/02/2021 06:36

I haven't managed to get any yet - I'm doing all of my shopping online and I'm not sure if I can use the vouchers online?
Would be interested to know if anyone has done so?

YanTanTethera123 · 04/02/2021 06:59

Can’t get them anywhere around here and vouchers refused when trying online with Tesco ☹️

  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces? Very easy to use, very short list of extra ingredients that were needed to make the dish. For the pulled pork all I needed to buy was the pork. Made shopping very quick and easy. I also liked that I could squeeze every last bit of the sauce from the packet. No waste.
  2. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried? They loved the taste of the pulled pork mix as well as the smell while it cooked. We had it in tortilla wraps and it made a fab dinner.
  3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why? Yes for a quick easy meal. It took 2 mins in the morning although before serving I did have to drain off the liquid and boil it down to concentrate the sauce as it got very watery during cooking. I liked that the mix didn't appear to have lots of artificial additives which I half expected it to have.
  4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced? Not sure.

I've yet to test my chicken curry packet but will report back on that next week.

juliawilkes95 · 04/02/2021 11:13

Chilli, we all eat Chilli as a family once a week anyway but this sauce really gave it that missing kick we much needed.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
yes I would, they are super easy to use, Packaging can be recycled and they compliment the meal well.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Anything that is currently available, I like sausage casserole so thats an option, anything chicken related and maybe even a vegetable sauce.

Ease of use, easy to store in cupboard

  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?

Smell as cooking

  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Mixed reviews. We didn't like the chicken curry one at all, pushed it round our plates for ages. Not strong enough and the tomato flavour was overwhelming. The chilli one we liked and wolfed it down .

  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?

Chasseur, sweet & sour.

misskatamari · 04/02/2021 16:50
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?

They worked well in the slow cooker and made lovely thick sauces. Very easy to use and good to have in the cupboard for when needed.

  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?

The enjoyed the flavour of the chilli a lot, the kids were less keen on the curry, but DH and I thought it was nice enough. I liked how easy they were to cook and that they didn't end up watery.

  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

I would. I'm not sure if I personally would use them again, as I cook a lot from scratch. The chilli was nice, Altho I found it a bit sweet. The kids loved it though. We weren't overly keen on the curry, it was quite tomatoey and didn't have a huge depth of flavour but it was a nice enough meal. I would definitely recommend them as a good option for people to try, as they were very convenient and we did enjoy the meals they made. I will keep an eye o it for the other flavours to try in future

  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced? I'd be interested in creamier curries, chicken casserole, sausage casserole etc
mrsdolittle · 04/02/2021 17:16

Haven't been able to find these stocked in my local supermarkets yet. Bit disappointed because I was really looking forward to trying them.

lorka · 04/02/2021 17:16

Unfortunately no stock in my local supermarket 😞

yesyoudoknowme · 04/02/2021 17:22
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces? Today we tried the beef in ale and it was SO much better than the chicken curry!
  2. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried? Ease of use
  3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why? Beef and Ale yes, chicken curry no! The beef was full of flavour and we didn't find it too thick or gloopy as others have said.
  4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced? Liver!!! Why can't you get sauces for liver any more? Tbh I doubt if I will buy them though (except the Liver one) as Sainsbury's were selling them for (I think) £1.80 which is a ridiculous price, sorry!
iwishiwasatcentralperk · 04/02/2021 17:37

I would like to see

Chicken Casserole
Creamy Chicken (along the lines of Country French Chicken Tonight sauce)
Sausage casserole
Creamy cheesy pasta sauce to use with fresh pasta.
Spaghetti Bolognese

Eminybob · 04/02/2021 17:45

Just to follow on from my last post, I have managed to find the chicken curry flavour, and I’m impressed.
Both fussy DC enjoyed it, and dh and I, and we are talking about having it again as it is so quick and easy.
Still prefer a home cooked curry, but this is perfect for family dinners.

ladyslattern · 04/02/2021 17:50

We tested Chicken Curry and Beef and Ale. I cook two parallel meals - one veggie and one meat, in two slow cookers and freeze half of each. The veggie curry contained red onion, sweet potato chunks, black beans (and spinach for the last 30 mins) a instead of the chicken. The veggie Beef and Ale casserole contained diced celery, butter beans and parboiled Pearl barley instead of the beef.

  1. I particularly liked the fact that all the ingredients in the sachets were quality foods that I recognise and could come from my kitchen. No weird fillers or additives and no bulking out with sugar and salt as is usually the case with sauce jars. They were really tasty but family friendly - curry not too chilli heavy. Im usually a bulk/scratch cook but this is a convenience food that I would buy.
  2. These are both meals I make from scratch. They liked the curry as much as my home made snd they thought the Homepride Beef and Ale was nicer, particularly the veggie version. They liked the smell of the meals cooking.
  3. I would to scratch cooks. The sachet at £1.50 saves me about 30 mins of chopping garlic, picking bayleaves, stripping thyme, getting store cupboard ingredients out etc and it's a decent hack for mornings when I have to go to work. I'm surprised
  4. Sausage casserole. Coq au vin. Bolognaise. Tagine. Although the sachets are single use plastic they're tiny so doesn't feel so wasteful. I cute little jar would be nice packaging.
modernfamalam · 04/02/2021 18:13

The convenience! It was so quick and easy to put together. I also thought they were reasonably priced.
  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?
They enjoyed the flavour and thought it smelled nice.
  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
Yes I would, really handy to keep in the cupboard for when you're in a rush to put a slow cooker meal together. Saves a lot of time.
  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
Mexican and maybe a fish sauce? I've never cooked fish in the slow cooker so would be a safer way to try something new!
Timeforsinging81 · 04/02/2021 19:53
  1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?

Ease of use. Great flavour. I've not previously had.much success with my slow cooker but I'm a convert now!

  1. What was your family's favourite thing about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces you tried?

I loved how easy it was; I'm a confident cook but have little time now days

  1. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?

Yes, it's nice to have a home cooked meal with low effort.

  1. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?

A Moroccan tagine with lamb. Or some other curries. African type stews. Vegetarian meal ideas.

minceandpotatoes · 04/02/2021 20:13

I liked that getting the opportunity to test these made me get my slow cooker out and use it again, as I hadn't used it for a while. With the sauces themselves I liked that they were simple and easy to use, clear instructions, and straightforward to prepare the meals.

My family didn't like either the chilli con carne or the chicken curry that I tested, but they are quite fussy eaters. I thought that both were ok, fine to eat but nothing special. Both seemed a little bland and lacking something in flavour.

I probably wouldn't recommend these sauces. I think with not much more effort you could make something the same or nicer from scratch. When using the sauces you still need to chop onions and add other ingredients, it wasn't a case of just throwing the meat and sauce into the slow cooker which would have made it a really quick and convenient option.

After reading other people's reviews I might try the pulled pork flavour. I would possibly try some of the other suggestions, such as sausage casserole, a creamy sauce, or something for fish or vegetables, but I don't think I will be actively looking out for them.
