This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnet users who have been testing Homepride Slow Cooker concentrated sauces. The sauces are available in Chilli Con Carne, Chicken Curry, Beef & Ale or Pulled Pork flavours.

I have tried the pulled pork & beef & ale. Was pleasantly surprised with both, I did wonder whether there would be enough sauce in the packet for the beef one but it turned out fine. I would buy both of them again

• I liked that they were very easy to use & they tasted really nice. Instructions on the pack were very simple.

• for me it was the ease, minimal effort required. My child especially liked the pulled pork, not something he would normally have eaten

• yes I would reccommend & I would also buy again myself. They are ideal for a busy household, i like to cook fresh meals but dont always have the time & I know most my friends are in a similar situation. They tasted a lot nicer than I had expected them to

• more chicken based ones, tomato type sauce or chicken casserole

We liked that they were very convenient to use, which is great when we are both in work full time.
We liked the convinience, and our son loved the smell of the BBQ sauce.
I think we would recommend them, they added to our meals and saved us time in preparation.
Our son has already asked if there is sausage flavour, so possibly one for a sausage casserole?

Very easy to use & I didnt have to add lots of different ingredients to it. Made a lovely curry.

We tried the curry sauce as that was the one I was told to buy, but then my lot love a chicken curry so it went down well. It was different to the type I usually buy, more tomato based but it was very tasty.

I would recommend it, It was quick & easy & very nice to be fair.

Definately a creamy one maybe with mushrooms in for chicken.
A spicier curry one would be good too.

Sadly we didn’t like anything about the sauces. The beef and ale was artificial tasting spoiling the good quality meat. I added some water initially and the gloopy sauce still needed diluting before serving. The leftovers are still sitting in the fridge and will probably be thrown out.
The pulled pork tasted better but I admit that after the initial experience with the beef and ale I put the joint on a bed of fried onion, garlic, celery and peppers before adding the sauce.
Would I recommend it? No. For the ridiculously expensive £1.50 Morrison’s are charging you could buy enough fresh veg and spices to make a real home cooked meal.
Using a slow cooker is a great way to come in to a home cooked meal. Just keep it honest with fresh veg., herbs and spices.

I tried the beef and ale and the pulled pork.

1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?
   

I really liked the ease- especially the pulled pork. I just had to put the pork shoulder and sauce in the slow cooker. Perfect for a midweek meal needing little preparation! Both sauces tasted great and everyone enjoyed them. Next time, I might use the beef and ale to create a pie filling, though it was perfect as a stew with jacket potatoes.

I think it was how easy they were to use and how tender the meat in both dishes was.

I already have recommended them to my colleagues! We are all key workers working long hours and having easy to cook meals that will be ready in the evenings when we come home are just what we need at the moment!

A range of curries, for example, pasanda, massaman or tagines.

Easy to use, great flavour with no fuss.

2- favourite thing
It encouraged me to use the slow cooker. I knew the flavours would be nice without having to mess with different spices and ingredients.

3 - recommend and why?
I would recommend the sauces as they are easy to use and everyone enjoyed them.

Sausage casserole, chicken chasseur, spanish chicken, white wine sauce.

Our Sainsburys only have the chicken curry in stock, so I got one to try.
Unfortunately, neither DP or I liked it. The idea of it was better than the reality.
We just didn't like the taste.
I'll look out for one of the other flavours to try.
I'm grateful for the opportunity to try them and sorry I couldn't give a more glowing review.

Not the chicken curry, you use tinned tomatoes and they stayed whole ( ie not turned into sauce) and we all found that weird in a curry. Also found the tomatoes over rode the curry flavour. Trying the beef tomorrow and I think that will be more successful.

No. They suggest a low amount of veg and high amount of meat, provide a small number of servings and are no less work than just doing it myself. The sauce doesn't save any work or taste any better than my own cooking.

We tried the chicken curry flavour and the chilli con carne flavour. The sauces were easy to find in my local Morrison’s.

I thought the range of flavours was good, and the simplicity of adding a few store cupboard ingredients was great for meals during a lockdown when I can’t always get out to the shops easily.

The chicken curry flavour was good for young children as it wasn’t too spicy. They mainly enjoy the fact that dinner is ready to eat whenever they are, with no waiting!

3. Would you recommend the Homepride Slow Cooker range to others? Why?
I wouldn’t, even though my family enjoyed the flavours. The packaging is non recyclable and this meant I wouldn’t buy it. I’m trying to reduce the amount of plastic packaging that our food comes in, e.g. by buying loose fruit and veg or food that is packaged in recyclable materials. I was surprised that a newly launched product was packaged in this way - surely consumers are trying to reduce the amount of plastic their food comes in?

4. Which other flavours of Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces that you would like to see introduced?
If it were packaged differently, a BBQ chicken flavour, sausage casserole or a lamb curry would be good.

Out of the 2 we tried, the Pulled Pork was the winner! It was really tasty and the meat was really succulent.

I have already told people about the Pulled Pork telling them how easy it is to prepare and how tasty it is!!

A chilli or chicken casserole would be great, and maybe a different beef one. Even some like chicken fajita flavour would be fab.

I was only able to get the beef/ale variety as there were no other varieties available to purchase. I looked in 2 supermarkets so I had hoped for a better choice.

1. What did you particularly like about the Homepride Slow Cooker Sauces?

They are easy to use, a good standby if you don't want to prepare anything. The taste was excellent and both my DCs liked the meal.
Sadly one pouch didn't produce enough sauce for all 4 of us - it was a shame to have to make extra gravy. So, I either do this or use 2 pouches (which at £1.80 each makes a very expensive meal)

The flavour and consistency was very good.

Yes. Perfect to keep in your cupboard and use occasionally for speed and convenience.

I was disappointed that the pouch wasn't recyclable and not enough sauce for 4 people.
I'd like to see a choice of chasseur/ stroganoff/ creamy pasta and Mexican meals. And don't make them meat specific - could do chicken/pork or beef with the same packet.

We tried Steak and Ale sauce, it was okay but there was smell and after taste so I added some spices to mask it.
Pulled pork was good but amount of sauce in the pack is too small.
