This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the Tilda Kids Rice range with their kids. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 1-8.

Here’s what Tilda have to say:
“Perfect for children who are weaned and happily eating solid food, Tilda Kids is a delicious range of rice and vegetables that have been especially developed with younger palates in mind. Every pouch is bursting with yummy, natural ingredients and hidden veggies meaning every pack counts as 1 of your child’s 5-a-day! The entire range of five variants is gluten-free and vegetarian, with four variants also dairy-free and suitable for vegans. Delicious on their own or with chicken, fish, meatballs or more vegetables, Tilda Kids not only makes meal-times easy – but delicious and healthy too! What’s more, they are ready in only 40 seconds in the microwave or just 3 minutes in a pan. The perfect cupboard essential for busy parents!”

Testers please answer the following question:

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

All selected testers will be required to leave feedback on what they thought of the Tilda Kids Rice range both on a thread on Mumsnet and by filling out a short survey. Everyone who completes both sets of feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

Testers please answer the following question:

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
Really sorry to say but she just wasn't keen on either of the first 2 that I thought she'd like (sunshine rice/cheese & tomato) so I didn't see any point in offering her the others.
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Very quick and easy to prepare.
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Dinner - with cheese & ham chicken escalope and veg (sunshine rice), grilled gammon and veg (cheese & tomato rice).
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
Probably not, no. It's very convenient but I normally just cook basmati rice in a saucepan and my daughter happily eats that.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
Sorry, I wouldn't, as it just wasn't popular, and my daughter usually wolfs down rice!
NeverTwerkNaked · 09/09/2019 10:45

Testers please answer the following question:

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
Our children who can have cows milk loved the cheese and tomato rice the best. The children who are allergic to milk liked all the choices and loved having so much choice but especially enjoyed the paella rice.
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range? The range of flavours and the ease of preparing it.
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with? Lunch or dinner, usually a light meal with a range of other food - prawns, other vegetables, cheese, chicken etc. Our children love tapas style meals and this worked well for that.
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range? Yes, interested in trying the adult micro wave products
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again? Yes definitely, they are handy sizes and make it easy to add a bit of variety to a meal
EinsteinsArousedSausagesHCB · 09/09/2019 11:26

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
My child really enjoyed the mild curry rice. Unfortunately, they weren't keen on the taste of the others.

What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Quick and easy to cook.

Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Lunch/snack.

Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
I have purchased Tilda microwave rice before.

Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
Depends on the price.

redbook · 09/09/2019 11:40

Thanks for choosing me to test this product.

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
Unfortunately my son didn't really like any of them. He often takes a few tries to get used to something, so that wouldn't deter me from buying them again. I quite liked the whole grain one, and that's also the one DS ate most of (perhaps because he liked what I served it with even less).

What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
I like that they are quick to prepare and there is an interesting range of flavours. Also, I like that there is no pan to clean at the end.

Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
We had the rices for dinner:
Whole grain rice with lentil curry.

Paella rice with lemon salmon.
Sunshine rice with mango and coconut chicken.
Curry rice with added veg and toasted nuts.
Cheese and Tomato rice with chicken wrapped in bacon.

I found it quite hard to pair the flavours of the rice with the 'protein' part of the meal as the flavours of the rice packets speak for themselves. I've since seen that tilda's website has some recipe ideas for the packets which I could try in the future.

Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
I'm not planning to buy other Tilda products right now. I tend to buy dried basmati rice, wholegrain rice and risotto rice and choose which ever brand has the best price at the time.

Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
I really like the idea of the kids rice and would probably buy again for occasional store cupboard emergency meals. The reason I would not buy them more often is that we tend to eat as a family, so have no need for them on a daily basis.

RedKites · 09/09/2019 11:53
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
Sunshine veg
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
They were very convenient
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
I think we used them all at dinner. We had them with everything from fajitas to curry!
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the adult/big size of Tilda microwave rice has options with no added salt so I might keep one of those in the cupboard for when it's convenient. We already occasionally buy their dry rice products.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
My 6yo really enjoyed trying the different options and it was very convenient for him. However, my 9yo is pretty fussy and won't eat rice unless it's plain. If I have to cook rice for him anyway, I might as well make rice for both of them so I can't imagine I will buy it regularly. Having said that, the 6yo has been promised he can have the sunshine one again, so I will buy it at least once more! (If Tilda consider selling completely plain rice in the same small size, I imagine we might buy them more regularly.)
Buttybach · 09/09/2019 17:47

We were not testing them but we bought some in Asda. My daughter does a lot of gymnastics weekly so it's hard to get some good food into her quickly. She absolutely loved the curry one and we mixed it with chicken chunks!! She ate the whole lot!

Buttybach · 09/09/2019 17:48

She is a bloody fussy eater too!

Tilda if you want to send a potential Olympian 8 year old some carbs then we are v happy to try more flavours

ToftheB · 09/09/2019 17:49

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Sunshine veg and paella

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Very convenient, and my son really enjoyed them when he’s previously been a bit funny about rice.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Lunch or dinner, with extra veg and either baked chicken or fish

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

I probably would - Although I’m trying to cut down on excessive packaging. If there was an option for recycled or reduced plastic packages I would be very interested.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Again, probably. They’re a good product and useful to have in the store cupboard - but I feel bad about buying individual servings in plastic.

NerrSnerr · 09/09/2019 17:49

Sunshine rice
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Really quick and easy to serve up a hot meal but also healthy and filling.

Lunchtime as a meal on its own and evening meal as a side dish.
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
I'd prefer products for the whole family rather than just for kids. I didn't like the idea I was eating baby food when I tried their pouches!
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
No as my four year old really disliked and my 2 year old usually eats the same meals as him.
iemma321q · 09/09/2019 20:22
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
My eldest really wasn't fussed about any of them. My youngest would eat them all but preferred the sunshine veg.
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Quick and easy to cook.

Probably not.
WhenDoISleep · 09/09/2019 20:33

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

DC2 is quite fussy about rice but he quite liked the Sunshine Veg when he tried it. He refused to try any of the other varieties. DC1 didn't really like them as he found them very bland.

What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

The number of different varieties and the easy and speed of preparation.

Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

We used these for dinner, with chicken in various forms.

Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

Tilda is my preferred rice brand and we use a number of the products available in both convenience packs and the larger dry packets.

Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Possibly, when planning a meal for just my younger son as the portion size is perfect for him, given he is not a big eater of rice. If cooking a meal for both of my DC I wouldn't use these packs as the quantity is not sufficient for both DC and it is an expensive way to purchase rice.

tiramisualwaystiramisu · 09/09/2019 22:16
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

My kids are all of the portions and seemed to enjoy them equally. The 4 year old claimed he didn't like the slimy bits (apricot) in the curry rice, but he did eat most of them without looking

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Very convenient, appreciated the additional vegetables in them

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Served with dinner with stir-fried chicken and meatballs

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

Possibly, it would depend on price

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

I would maybe keep some in as an emergency backup, but would probably only buy on special offer as quite an expensive option to keep in. I am happy to cook rice from scratch and chuck some veg in if need be

Lindy2 · 09/09/2019 22:17
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
Cheese and Tomato
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
They are very quick and easy to prepare but are not unhealthy fast food.
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Dinner. I served it with things like sausages, chicken goujons and beef burgers. I also had extra veg such as carrots or peas.
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
Yes
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

elrider · 10/09/2019 09:24
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
I'm not sure - it's hard to gauge and she can't tell us yet!
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
They are healthy and vegetarian and some of them are vegan, which I am, so feel better about buying them.
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Dinners, mainly, on their own as it was mainly rushed dinners after nursery where she has already eaten tea and pudding so doesn't tend to need a huge amount.
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
Yes, I've used the dry rice and normal rice pouches before and would try others.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
Yes, although my toddler wasn't that keen, but I'd keep trying as she generally likes rice and vegetables, so I don't know if she is just in a fussy stage or was overtired. They are very convenient but I wish they were in more environmentally-friendly packaging so I didn't have the guilt of using plastic for convenience.

PunkyBubba · 10/09/2019 18:46
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Mild Curry or Paella (mine too!)

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

I have 2 children who need different meals cooked most nights (older child is autistic with very narrow selection of foods he will eat. Rice is not one of them). I try to cook more variety for my younger child but it can be difficult. Having these Tilda Rice packets which were minutes to prepare, and included vegetables already was brilliant!

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Dinner.. served with omelette, chicken strips, salmon or fish fingers.. cucumber and tomatoes
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
We already have tilda microwave rice packets for when DH or I are just cooking for 1 (the other is out) and need to be quick.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
Yes dependent on pricing
Sierra259 · 10/09/2019 21:54

The paella flavour

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Really quick to prepare
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Dinner. I served the paella rice with prawn and chorizo to make a mini-paella, the wholegrain veg rice with fish cakes and broccoli and the cheese and tomato with turkey meatballs.
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
We have tried the microwave and dry rice products before and would again.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
Probably, they'd be handy to have a couple of in the cupboard for dinners in a rush.

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Sorry but he didn't like any of them due to the texture. He described it as "mush". I think they're much more suited to babies and toddlers.

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Very convenient if only preparing food for the child as its a good size and is ready in 40 seconds.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

He had them with evening meals. For the first one he had it as his carb in the meal. After that one I gave him it as a side as I realised he was unlikely to eat much of it.

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

We already use the tilda brown rice packets and find them great. Perfect for doing quick fried rice with.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

I would try a different type of Tilda kids food as we enjoy the normal packets of rice, however I was not impressed with these ones.

Amaksy · 11/09/2019 06:50
