This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the Tilda Kids Rice range with their kids. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 1-8.

Here’s what Tilda have to say:

Unfortunately not, had high hopes but my little one prefers the plain rice I make him into which I mix frozen veg (we mix it up) with a little oil and pepper and it's not much more effort and I'm guessing much cheaper

Curry but enjoyed them all. We thought sunshine looked the most appetising.

I liked the consistency, it is wetter than other rice pouches so stays on a fork or spoon more easily and doesn't need a sauce.

Yes, microwave products as I use a lot of convenience food. I don't use dry rice.

Yes depending on price. I use standard size rice pouches shared between two DC but I liked the consistency of these, and that veg is included.

I don’t think so, my children prefer just plain boiled rice. They werent so keen on these

She absolutely loved them all but at a push her favourite is sunshine rice.

Bright, colourful, tasty, smells wonderful plus all ingredients are easily understood and found in the cupboard/fridge.

My daughter had the rices mainly with dinners like chilli con carne, chicken curry plus the cheese and tomato rice was a snack one time.

I think if the kids rice can taste this good then it would be great to try other products and see if they're just as tasty!

Well my daughter is certainly hoping I do. She's already asking for me to purchase more. So I can see us getting more in the future.

They quite liked sunshine veg, but weren't really keen on any I'm afraid.

I would yes. My kids didn't really like these but I would be interested in the other normal products. However I probably wouldn't buy microwave products often, due to the plastic waste issue

• Would you buy Tilda Kids again? No I wouldn't I'm afraid. My kids just weren't keen on them at all. They normally love rice and they're good at eating vegetables, but they didn't really like the veg mixed in with the rice

Paella and mild curry

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Useful to be a smaller size than adult pouches. It leads to less food waste as good size for a meal for both of my small children.

Lunch and dinner. Served with cheese and tomatoes for lunch and main meal food for dinner e.g. Spanish chicken.

Yes for both the kids and me. They are a good size to take to work for lunch for one adult. Wouldn't buy the sunshine veg and brown rice with veg ones. The mild curry one was amazing.

I tried serving the rice at lunch and dinner as a separate side dish alongside some pulse based dishes and eggs. That didn't go down at all well, so I tried it in stuffed mushrooms, with soupy lentils and as a veggie burger/arancini type snack and that was more acceptable. The younger one also wanted to have the rice on a rice cake and his brother joined in with that too, adding some Marmite!

Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
I use the dry basmati rice for cooking and my husband uses some of the adult instant rice packs already and we both like those. I'm not sure if there are other products we might like to try.

Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
I might keep a pack of the curry rice for my younger one but to be honest, I'd probably be more likely to cook plain rice for us all as the only ways they liked to eat the rice are well suited to plain rice.

Pointless, learn to cook standard rice, even boil a bag is cheaper and Google portion sizes. Kids option is for simple minded who dont know how to cook normal meals for children.

I served the rice as part of an evening meal as an accompaniment to chicken goujons or fish fingers.

I might try serving flavoured rice from the standard range.

Yes - my children gave asked me to buy the Miles Curry and Sunshine vegetable rice again.

The Mild Curry was their favourite. This surprised me a little as my son usually won't eat 'spicy' flavours.

We enjoyed the product test and found the pouches a useful quick food to cook when I needed to prepare tasty healthy food quickly.

How quick they are to prepare and serve and that it's rice with flavourings/veg, quite healthy!

Dinner. My DD usually eats rice on its own so she was happy with that. My DS had his with chicken.

Yes depending on price I might buy one of these as a storecupboard emergency meal but we generally cook basmati rice and make our own egg fried rice.

The cheese and tomato - he got very excited about ‘pizza rice’!

My son is a fussy eater so wouldn’t normally have entertained some of the flavours but the packaging and the fact that he received it ‘specially’ really prompted him to try it and he loved the products. Our favourite thing was the great tasting flavours and the fun packaging.

We served all for dinner; Cheesy tomato went in a wrap with chicken Mild curry was served with a chicken burger

Yes, we always opt for Tilda microwave rice for ourselves.

Absolutely, it was a real (surprise) hit - exactly what we’d hoped for.

The favourite by far was the mild curry, my son asked for more!

Our favourite thing was the sheer ease of it. From the size to the cooking, it was childs play. The packaging was a winner too with the colourful designs.

He had them as a snack, with nothing else as the portion size was just right.

We would most certainly try other products from the Tilda range. A huge hit here!

The cheese & tomato flavour was the favourite - we both like that one! They were all very nice and full of flavour, although my daughter (6) didn't like the wholegrain one, as she's not had wholegrain rice before and it was quite chewy.

They are a good portion size and it was also very quick to heat up and required no washing up!

We tried them with our evening meal - my daughter and I shared each pouch with meat and vegetables and it made a nice alternative to chips or potatoes.

Yes - I used to buy microwaveable rice pouches but now tend to stick with dry basmati rice simply due to cost but I am tempted to purchase a few flavours to have for ready for a quick meal. I had forgotten how easy it was!

I will certainly get a few packets of the cheese and tomato as it went down a storm.
