This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the Tilda Kids Rice range with their kids. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 1-8.

Here’s what Tilda have to say:

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
My daughter (4) wouldn't eat them as she will only eat "clean" rice and they weren't plain white rice. However my son (3) ate all of them and seemed to like the sunshine vegetable rice best as he loves anything with rice in.

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Ease of cooking and the handy portion size so that I wasn't wasting half a packet of rice

• Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Dinner. With whatever we were eating such as curries, meat in pasta sauces and on one time in a bowl on its own as that was what he wanted to eat

I have used Tilda microwave rice before and remain happy to do so again.

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Unfortunately little one was going through a spell of fussing eating when we were testing these (combination of teething and one year immunisations). The one I think she maybe ate most of was the cheese and tomato, although she barely ate any of them.

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

They are a very convenient meal and I liked that they had a portion of veg in each pouch, my little one has gone completely off eating any vegetable, so I need to try and disguise them in different ways.

• Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

We had them mainly as part of an evening meal but the golden vegetable was a lunch.

I would definitely keep an eye out and try things that I think little one would like.

• Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Yes I would. Even to have them in a cupboard to use as a quick option. I will try these again when little one gets her appetite back.

The sunshine vegetable rice

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

They are a quick easy dinner but really healthy, they don’t need refrigerating and have a long shelf life which is a massive bonus.

• Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Dinner and a range of things. Curried chicken, fish fingers, flaked cod and a mixture of vegetables.

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
cheese and tomato, it vanished in minutes!

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

They are very quick and easy to prepare. I would keep a stack of these in the cupboard for quick eats.

• Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

DD ate these at lunch and dinner. I served with protein sources (fish fingers, chicken breast, Ham)

• Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

I tried the meals myself, they were fine, a little bland for my taste, but I can add salt myself. I would eat these myself!

• Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Definitely!

Cheesy tomato was by far the fave but my daughter enjoyed all the flavours.

Perfect portion size and only 40 secs to prepare - wow!!!

We had at dinner time. Works well with a fried egg which my daughter loves, and also with hot dog chopped up into it for a quick dinner. Did some peas with it too.

I like the adult pouches. Would love to see these kids flavours as adult pouches as the flavours appealed to me too.

• Would you buy Tilda Kids again? No, they were quite bland and also quite watery and stodgy. My daughter preferred plain white or whole grain rice, she really hated the fact the the rice was “the wrong colour”

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range? They are a fast small serving, good to use for fussy eaters if the rest of the house is eating something spicy.
• Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with? Dinner, served with fish fingers pan fried tofu, chicken breast, I also made egg fried rice with a pack and added extra peas in most instances.
• Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range? Yes, I'm always up for trying new foods.
• Would you buy Tilda Kids again? Only for occasions like camping, as there are 7 people in our house financially it just makes sense to cook rice from scratch and splurge in other less basic areas.

As my children are older we tried a couple at a time alongside our main meals as a kind of taste test

I already buy the microwavable rice pouches

• Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

No. The portion sizes are too small for my children and I found they lacked in flavour. The smell was fantastic but the taste didn't live up to it. I would rather buy pouches of plain rice

Which was my child's favourite: my little boy really liked the curry one.

My favourite thing about the range was how quick and easy they were to prepare for a healthy meal.

I served them on their own for lunch and as a side for dinner with some chicken and broccoli. Both went down well.

Yes, I think I would try some more products outside the kids range

If the price was reasonable I would definitely buy again.

• What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range? The packet size was great. My DS is 1 so was enough in them to have twice. Also so quick and convenient for busy days.

• Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with? Mainly dinners but made some salads with cold left overs. I served them with currys and casseroles or added pulses and extra veg. They are quite dry so need something saucy with them. Especially for blw.

• Would you buy Tilda Kids again? Yes, it’s always helpful to have you things like this in the cupboard for when you need a quick meal. They are easy to add extra veg and make a convenient balance meal in a hurry

What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
The variety of flavour, whilst still being a subtle taste for a younger palette. The flavours were lovely but not too strong.

Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
We mostly served the rice with tea but did have it with lunch one day for burrito bowls.

Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
We would love to try more Tilda products, as it helped bridge my daughter into trying new (more grown up) foods :)

The sunshine rice was most popular with both my DDs (5 and 3)

How quick and easy it is! And healthy too, most ‘quick fixes’ are less nutritious. A handy size too, so less waste.

Dinner each time. Served it with roast chicken instead of potatoes, with sausages and with fish cakes. Tried serving it by itself once (cheese & tomato flavour) but it didn’t go down so well.

Yes, we already do use these

Possibly, if the price is right. Also would be interested to know more about the packaging, as we’re trying to reduce waste.

I served them with fish fingers.. one day they had them with sausages.. and then one day I made a kind of smashed egg with the sunshine veg. I used them mostly for suppers..

We already use lots of the adult ones.. our favourite is coconut.

Yes. Getting carbs down my kids is really hard, and these went down a treat! Brilliant.

I prepared it for dinner and i also made some roast potatoes.

I would give them a try and see if they are nice.

I would not buy as i find the portion size too small
