This is the feedback thread for the MNers who tested out the Tilda Kids Rice range with their kids. This product test was open to all UK MNers with at least one child aged 1-8.

Here’s what Tilda have to say:
“Perfect for children who are weaned and happily eating solid food, Tilda Kids is a delicious range of rice and vegetables that have been especially developed with younger palates in mind. Every pouch is bursting with yummy, natural ingredients and hidden veggies meaning every pack counts as 1 of your child’s 5-a-day! The entire range of five variants is gluten-free and vegetarian, with four variants also dairy-free and suitable for vegans. Delicious on their own or with chicken, fish, meatballs or more vegetables, Tilda Kids not only makes meal-times easy – but delicious and healthy too! What’s more, they are ready in only 40 seconds in the microwave or just 3 minutes in a pan. The perfect cupboard essential for busy parents!”

Testers please answer the following question:

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

All selected testers will be required to leave feedback on what they thought of the Tilda Kids Rice range both on a thread on Mumsnet and by filling out a short survey. Everyone who completes both sets of feedback will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw.

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

The whole grain with vegetables. My 7yo generally found them a bit sweet.

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Convenience

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Evening meal; once with chicken curry, once to make a paella, and once with chilli.

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

Yes - micro rice is handy to keep in the cupboard for quick dinners.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Probably not - quick rice is handy to have in the cupboard but my 7yo prefers plain rice which we add flavours to and found these quite sweet. The portion size would be good for a younger child but my 7yo eats more.

1 - favourite? Definitely the paella rice.
2 - favourite thing? How quick it was to prepare. Very soft and mild taste.
3 - eating occasion? Mostly dinner but once for lunch. Dinner was with chicken and gammon. Lunch was alone.
4 - other Tilda products? Probably. Pretty sure I have used the microwave rice before.
5 - buy again? Would entirely depend on the price. Packs are smaller than adult rice which is great for kids portion sizes but not if it's too expensive.

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
The paella rice I think was the favourite . I agreed, as I was impressed with the flavour.

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

So quick! Very handy for a quick addition to dinner. They also have vegetables in, a good way of sneaking them in.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

I used them for dinner time, and served with chicken, with curry and with a ratatouille type sauce.

I would. They exceeded my expectations in terms of flavour, and I was very impressed. I would eat them myself.

I definitely would. Probably more likely if they were on offer.

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Mild curry, although they weren’t overly keen on any of them unfortunately, despite loving rice usually. They didn’t like the ‘bits’ in them eg pieces of onion, chickpeas etc and the texture was quite wet and mushy.

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Quick to heat and conveniently sized portions.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Served for dinner with whichever protein we were having. However I gave the cheese and tomato one on its own as a snack (I quite liked the flavour of this one myself!)

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

I already use Tilda microwave rice as an accompaniment for our family meals and will continue to do so.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Not for my 6 & 8 year old as they weren’t keen but once my baby is weaned I will try it again due to its convenience.

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Sunshine veg

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

So quick. My youngest had been ill and required a hospital visit. Had some chicken in the fridge and threw a pouch in the microwave and dinner was done for them when we got home.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Lunch and dinner. Chicken, beef or fish. Put some prawns in the paella.

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

I have only recently started to use a microwave so I haven't really used many of the Tilda range. Impressed so far so will be checking out other products.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Yes. I wouldn't necessarily buy them to have in the weekly meal plan. But rather as something to use in a fix and to keep stocked in the cupboard. As I said above they were great when we needed a quick comforting dinner for the kids after a long day at the hospital.

The curry one, it seemed to have the most flavour.

Which eating occasion did you serve Tilda kids and what did you serve it with?
Dinners, with curry, sausages or chicken.

Having tried Tilda kids products would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products outside of the kids range?
I've tried both, and happily buy them regularly.

Unfortunately not, for us the curry was the best of a bad bunch, they didn't really like any of them, declaring them bland. (Although my youngest is 7 and used to adult food and flavours)
Thankyou though!

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Sunshine veg

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

Super quick and convenient and all had one portion of veg in.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Served them all with dinner. Varied with what, did one with a tomato and veg chunky sauce, once just as a side with sausage and other veg, mostly with something “wet” like a casserole.

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

Yes, absolutely.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Possibly if the price was right. They were a good size portion for my 16month old to share with the 3 year old and soooo easy to heat up. The rice was a nicer and softer texture than the cheaper plain rice microwave pouches I sometime use for grownups and so easier for the littlest one to eat.

Q Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
A The vegetable paella - we've had to buy it again as he loved it so much!

Q What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
A Easy and convenient at the end of a long day for DS, and each packet had a recommended accompaniment which was really helpful when serving a balanced meal

Q Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
A Both lunch and dinner depending on the day and what else DS would have to eat that day. We served the majority with fish or chicken, but a couple, eg the vegetable paella and cheese and tomato, were eaten on their own.

Q Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
A Yes definitely, and already regularly purchase some products from the microwave range

Q Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
A Yes and already have!

MrsPworkingmummy · 30/08/2019 20:26

  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Sunshine veg was the favourite.

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
My kids weren't massive fans but I think they might just be a bit too old. Think they would be great for 2-3 age group, right size and taste
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Alongside dinner, with various meat and vegetables
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
Already use the microwave and dried rice which was why I was keen to try these. Will continue to buy these other products but not the kids ones.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again? Not for my kids but would recommend for younger children
Lariflete · 30/08/2019 20:59

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
Paella (DD) and Cheese and Tomato (DS).

What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Easy dinners with a full portion of veg in each.

Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
I served the Paella and Wholegrain vegetable rice for lunch on one day (both children tried each) and I didn't serve it with anything else as I wanted them to try the rice on its own.
I served the Cheese & Tomato Rice and Sunshine Vegetable Rice for dinner the next day and again served them alone.
The mild curry rice is yet to be eaten as neither child likes the sound of it. However I will be making 'yellow chicken' (Thai Green Curry) and I'm confident that they will eat it without noticing the rice.

Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
Yes. I've always been aware of the Tilda brand but until this product test hadn't ever used any of their items. I've been pleasantly surprised and will look out for their products in future.

Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
I liked the quality of the kids products and the ingredient list fills me with confidence. Again, I have been pleasantly surprised and will look out for their products in future, especially the kid range as I'm delighted that it has expanded my children's repertoire!

Ohflippineck · 30/08/2019 21:01

I’m obviously missing something. Children need different rice now?!

comehomemax · 30/08/2019 21:26

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

Sunshine veg and the mild curry rice - but she loved them all to be honest

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

The fact my daughter practically inhaled them!! She loved everything about them - the pack, the design, the taste - a huge success in our house. She asked for a 2nd pack on scoffing down the first. We liked the fact they are in a mild sauce so can just be added to a centre of plate and the meal is complete.

  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Served it for dinner - added some chicken and more veg. Also gave some to our 9 month old who loved them too.

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

Yes, definitely will give them a try

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Yes -

Mammatron · 30/08/2019 21:51

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
My son loved all variants of the Tilda Kids rice but the paella was a firm favourite!

  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
I love that you can make a meal super quick but with healthy, all natural ingredients
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
I've served these Tilda Kids Rice packs for both lunch and dinner- they're really handy for after swimming lessons when I need to feed a ravenous 3 year old quickly. Served them with a variety of things: salmon, chicken, prawns and as part of a 'picky plate' with tomatoes, olives etc
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
I will definitely be trying adult versions next!
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
I will absolutely be buying these again, going to be a new store cupboard staple!
RainbowMum11 · 30/08/2019 22:28
  • Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
My DD6 decided she doesn't like rice :( my favourite was the sunshine rice though!
  • What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
Perfect Portion size and includes veg
  • Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
As DD decided to not like rice, I personally enjoyed them with my lunch at work as they are a perfect size for 1, and great within the WW plan too (can be hard when cooking for one but this portion on size was ideal along with protein etc)
  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range? I already do buy both dry & microwave products from Tilda, but as a single parent, these children's pouches are an ideal size for one.
  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again? Yes, if the price was ok.
TellMeItsNotTrue · 30/08/2019 23:33

- Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?
DD1 - Mild Curry
DD2 - Sunshine Vegetable
DS - Vegetable Paella

They all pretty much liked them all though, DS struggled to choose a favourite

- What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?
I like the pack sizes and the flavour combinations. I also like that they are all vegetarian, and all except the cheese and tomato one are vegan, so they would be handy to keep in for DC friends coming over

- Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?
Lunch on its own
Tea was a help yourself with rice, quorn pieces, various veggies and condiments
Also for tea in wraps with a bit of chilli to make a sort of burrito

- Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?
Yes definitely

- Would you buy Tilda Kids again?
Yes definitely, the DC have made sure that their favourite flavours are known and on the shopping list

ConorMcGregorsChin · 31/08/2019 08:51

Our favourite was the Cheese and Tomato. Very tasty. Not as soggy as some of the others.

Favourite thing about them was the convenience and the portion size. We also thought they may be convenient for elderly people living alone.

Occasions were mainly evening meal as an accompaniment. But I could see lunchtime also being handy. I imagine younger kids would enjoy the rice on it's own (my DD is 7)

Would we try other Tilda ranges?
Absolutely! We already frequently buy the main Tilda rice pouches. They come in some awesome flavours and I find them so much nicer than the supermarket own brands. Tend to buy half a dozen or so when on offer to stock up the cupboards - not necessarily Brexit related prepping, but also not a bad idea! Wink
Also occasionally buy dried bags.
(would be interested to know if Tilda plan to make any more ranges - other grains? Curry sauces? Most jarred curry sauces on the market currently are pants!)

Would we buy the kids rice again?
Maybe. But I think I'm now more interested in exploring the rest of the Tilda range.

Thanks for picking us! Smile

ohdannyboy · 31/08/2019 11:58

Which Tilda Kids rice variant was your child’s favourite?

The cheese and tomato flavour. It was a close choice though

What is your favourite thing about the Tilda Kids range?

They are quick and easy to prepare, which meant I could add them as a side in place of fries or salad for tea.

Which eating occasion (i.e lunch/dinner/snack) did you serve Tilda Kids, and what did you serve it with?

Dinner, and I served with a chicken breast, fish fingers, a chicken korma - this went down really well, and cooked and left to go cold with a salad (the sunshine veg)

  • Having tried Tilda Kids products, would you like to try other Tilda - microwave or dry rice products, outside of the kids range?

I have previously bought the adult size rice for when I buy a take away curry (it's cheaper) and when I want a quick side for my hubby and me.

  • Would you buy Tilda Kids again?

Yes definately.
