This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnet users who have been testing Sunbites in Sun Ripened Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream and Cracked Black Pepper flavours.

Here’s what Sunbites has to say: “Things grown in nature are inherently good, so at Sunbites, we keep as much of that natural goodness as possible to turn sun ripened ingredients into easy, tasty little bites of goodness.
We've combined 3 sun-grown whole grains to give you our deliciously crunchy Grain Wave range. Not only are they extraordinarily delicious but high in fibre too.”

Testers, please give your feedback by answering the questions below as well as completing the short survey we’ve emailed you.

  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
  2. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
  3. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
  4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
  5. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
  6. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

All testers who give their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher for the store of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Very satisfied . Very tasty and crunchy, full of flavour.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
The fact that the package can't be recycled is a bit backward these days. Apart from that I had no other complaints unless getting to the end of them counts? Grin
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Absolutely. They have a great taste.
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
Really delicious. I especially enjoyed the sour cream flavour.
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes if it was only for me! Wink
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Something beetrooty would be lovely.
Biancadelrioisback · 14/08/2019 08:13
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?

Very!

  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?

The texture took a bit of getting used to but they felt healthier than traditional crisps
The flavours were really good and not too strong.

  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?

Yes

  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?

I loved the green ones. I've had them all! The red ones were nice but not quite to my taste as much, however DH adored them. The flavours were strong but not too strong.

  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?

yes, definitely. But not to share.

  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

Something with a bit of heat.

  1. I was very satisfied with walkers sunbites sweet chilli and sour cream & black pepper
  1. Like/dislikes
Sun bites sweet chilli * good flavour (not too spicy and not too under seasoned) * Moreish (I found myself wanting another bag straight after) * Good size and don’t hurt your mouth when eating them * Not really dry so don’t always need a drink to accompany (links into the first point about not being too spicy also)

Sour cream and black pepper

  • ok flavour - I don’t like loads of black pepper so it was better than I had anticipated however I was left wondering where it was as I was expecting the kick of black pepper that I don’t like.
  • A bit more dry than the sweet chilli so did need a drink with them
  • Not very moreish. One bag and I was done

Both

  • both healthy alternatives to regular potato crisps by using three grains
  • Both good for snacking
  • Both bright colourful packaging making it fairly obvious what flavour they maybe - red for sweet chilli and green for sour cream/pepper
  • Downside is that they aren't suitable for people with certain allergies
  1. I would choose sunbites for a snack definitely
  1. Overall very good as a quick snack bag of crisps and suitable from toddler to elderly. My toddler loved them as much as I did
  1. I would buy the multipack for sharing between the family but I wouldn’t share the smaller packs as there wasn’t much in the packet itself
  1. If sunbites launches a new flavour I would like the sweet chilli or a twist on prawn cocktail flavour.
MissBPotter · 14/08/2019 09:25
  1. How satisfied were you with
We were very satisfied overall.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?

Liked: The flavours were good, especially the sweet chili. They are nice and crunchy and slightly healthier than standard crisps. They are in convenient packages for snacking and taking out with us.

Dislikes: I would prefer the packing to be recyclable.

  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Yes. My dh and I have taken them to work and I’ve also taken them out as snacks for my kids. However, they wouldn’t be something I would give my kids often, due to the high salt content.
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried? Liked both, preferred sweet chili. Really nice slightly sweet and salty combination - yum!
  2. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes maybe because we did try them with hummus so could share them as a treat in the evening or at a bbq with friends.
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Something cheesy.
arewethereyetmum78 · 14/08/2019 10:11
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?

Very! 3 out of 5 in our family loved them. The other two only eat Walkers ready salted.

  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
I liked the packaging. Enjoyed the crispness of the snack. I thought they were very moreish.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?

Yes definitely and I have bought more since testing them.

  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?

I expected to prefer the sour cream, however we all liked the chilli the best. We are fans of walkers sensations chilli and the sensations chilli nuts though, so not a surprise we liked these.

Sour cream were nice too but I felt the grain left a slight aftertaste with these ones. Maybe sour cream and onion might be better.

  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?

Definitely. It's the sort of thing we would have in the staffroom at the end of term. Also would be nice for when the girls are over for wine.

  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

Sour cream and onion
BBQ
Cheesy nacho
Spicy Mexican

olympicsrock · 14/08/2019 10:29

EssentialHummus · 14/08/2019 10:40

Thank you for including me, it was a lovely treat!

1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?

Very satisfied - great flavours, excellent crunch with the ridges and no grease/oil as you'd find with standard crisps.

2. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?

I really liked both flavours and thought they came through well. I felt the packets could do with a few more crisps per packet, they felt nearly right in terms of fullness but not quite.

3. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?

I think so, particularly as part of a "meal deal" type option with a sandwich and a drink.

4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?

I liked both. I normally don't like sour cream type flavours but really enjoyed this one.

5. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?

Yes!

6. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

I'd love a very strong flavour like Salt and Malt Vinegar or Ready Salted.

CookieBlue · 14/08/2019 11:08
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Quite satisfied. I wasn’t sure on the texture and the aftertaste but I think that was more personal preference.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
I wasn’t keen on the texture of the crisp. I did quite like the flavours.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Possibly, if the price was suitable.
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
I liked the flavours. I preferred the sour cream.
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Possibly - if they were on offer!
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Maybe something with chicken? Or salt and vinegar?
NerrSnerr · 14/08/2019 11:17
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Really satisfied. They were really nice and filled me up.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
I would like more in the packets.

  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes

Cheese and onion (I'm old school)
Olinguito · 14/08/2019 11:50

1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Quite satisfied.
2. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
I was pleased that they don't contain palm oil, and liked the use of wholegrains to make them a bit healthier. I liked the texture of them, but found them a bit too sweet and would have liked less sugar in them. They also weren't very filling.

3. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Possibly.
4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
We liked both flavours, but preferred Sour Cream and Cracked Black Pepper. This flavour was a bit different from other snacks we have tried and wasn't too overpowering. The Sweet Chilli flavour was pleasant too but very sweet.
5. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?

Possibly, but I suspect it would be eaten very quicky as they are not very filling. Individual packets work better for us.
6. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Balsamic vinegar and rock salt.

cannotmakemymindup · 14/08/2019 12:24
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Very satisfied. I am enjoying the Sunbites especially the sweet chilli flavour.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
I like the crunch and the fact you can actually see the grains in the crisps. Other products with whole grains you can't always see it.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Yes I would.
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
I much prefered the sweet chilli flavour. I was rather underwhelmed by the sour cream flavour, it tasted more salty and vinegar than sour cream and the black pepper didn't come across at all.
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Probably not as a sharing bag.
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
I think something like horseradish for a new flavour.
DurhamDurham · 14/08/2019 14:30
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?

They were lovely, really tasty and great as a snack or with my lunch. I didn't feel too guilty eating them either as they seem like a healthier option than normal crisps.

  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?

Nothing at all!

  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?

I definitely would, I'll be buying some more when these run out.

  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?

I preferred the sweet chill flavour but didn't dislike either of them. They have plenty of flavour, more than I thought they would.

  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?

Hmmm, not sure. We do eat sharing bags of crisps on a weekend but I'd not considered these to be sharing type snacks, I'll have to think about that! Danger is that I'd buy a large sharing pack and eat them all myself as they're a healthier option so I wouldn't feel guilty!

  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

Southwest Chipotle
Steak and onion
Prawn cocktail
Marmite or Bovril
Sweet onion

The possibilities are endless!

Thanks for the opportunity to try the snacks, they've been a big hit.

BrokenWing · 14/08/2019 15:20

1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Very satisfied

2. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
Like the satisfying crunch and flavours. ds(15) also enjoyed as an alternative to crisps.

3. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Yes

4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
Unexpectedly I preferred the Sour Cream and Cracked Black Pepper, although the Sun Ripened Sweet Chilli was also nice.

5. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes, big bag would be good! Very moreish.

6. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
I was thinking Strong Cheddar, or an onion flavour. Perhaps a spicy BBQ, but have seen you already do similar flavours so will give them a try!!

DurhamDurham · 14/08/2019 15:41

Ooops, I didn't say what I liked about them!

Flavoursome, crunchy, crispy, light, didn't feel too unhealthy eating them. Just's the right portion size for a snack or with my salad at lunch time.

chibsortig · 14/08/2019 16:46

. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Very much so.

  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
I like the size of the sunbites, i liked the crunch. More satisfying than a crisp. I loved the chilli ones more than the sour cream. I think they hold strong flavours well.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Definitely.

  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes but i might not share them
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
A meat one perhaps

We particularly enjoyed the sweet chilli, we enjoyed them on their own and with hummus.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
I probably wouldn't choose them over another snack
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
Sweet chilli was our favourite, not too keen on the sour cream and black pepper
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Probably not, there are other crisps that I prefer
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Something meaty
LifeIsGoodish · 14/08/2019 18:21
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
So-so.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
Texture was nice. Flavours were disappointingly unbalanced.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Probably not.
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
Sour cream and black pepper - bland and unidentifiable. Sweet chilli - too sweet.
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Unlikely.
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Something with a fresher, ‘green’ flavour, like Lemongrass and Yogurt, or Thai Basil and Coconut Milk.
cupofteaplease · 14/08/2019 18:26

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/08/2019 21:23
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Quite satisfied. My DH and DD loved them. Unfortunately DS and I were unable to eat them due to allergies and unexpected ingredients. I was disappointed, as I was looking forward to the sweet chilli flavour but unfortunately they contain soya. (Unlike actual sweet chilli sauce and most other brands if sweet chilli flavour).
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
(DH says) the flavours were nice and I liked the wholegrains. Disliked that the flavours were too subtle and that they are quite high calorie.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Yes.

Liked them both, wished they were stronger.
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes as a way to reduce plastic waste.
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Something I can eat! Tomato and garlic, or salt and vinegar.
biffyboom · 14/08/2019 21:50

1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?

I was totally satisfied with both flavours, as were my husband, 5 year old and 2 year old.
All the crisps were gone in a couple days, and I always keep a large selection of various flavours and textures of crisps available, yet my children kept wanting the Sunbites.

2. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?

Both flavours were great, very flavoursome and tasted exactly as you would hope. My children loved both, especially the sweet chilli, saying they love spicy crisps.
The flavours are also ones not widely available in single serve bags of other crisps, which makes them even more desirable.
I thought the crisps had a light yet really crisp bite to them, and were a good size.

3. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?

Yes definitely. My 5 year old asked me to get more when I told him they were all gone.
I also think they are healthier than standard crisps, and am trying to find small changes to improve our snacks, so these are a good crisp to change to.

4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?

Both flavours were very well received by my family. Personally, sour cream was my favourite, but it is already one of my top 3 flavours of crisps anyway. Husbands favourite was the sweet chilli, and again it was already one of his favourite flavours. Children said both, but talked about the sweet chilli more when they ate them.

5. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?

Yes because I regularly buy sharing bags to eat at night with my husband, and a regular multipack size is not enough for s crisp addict such as myself Blush I can eat a 150g bag of crisps easily...

6. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

Cheese and onion. Yes it's unimaginative, but it's my all time favourite flavour in any brand of crisps.
Or maybe beef and horseradish, if I had to be more interesting.

thebluefoxategreensocks · 15/08/2019 00:11
  1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Very satsified. My children love them.
  1. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
We love the flavour of them, and they are a great alternative to potato crips. Nothing to dislike, apart from the soy ingredient in the chili flavour one.
  1. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Yes, would certainly choose as a snack.
  1. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
We loved both flavours.
  1. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Yes, I would buy a sharing bag to cut down on plastic waste.
  1. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Prawn cocktail would be loved by the kids. Salt and vinegar would be good too.
TellMeItsNotTrue · 15/08/2019 01:15

1. How satisfied were you with Sunbites?
Very, the whole family enjoyed them and would be happy to have either flavour of them again

2. What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?
Like - The DC really enjoyed them and it's something I can buy that we will all eat, instead of buying different ones for different people. I preferred the texture of these to normal crisps

Dislike - The only thing that puts me off is that they are higher in fat than I would have expected and around the same amount of calories as normal crisps. I don't think this is necessarily bad, but I don't think they should be marketed as being a healthy alternative to crisps when the figures don't really suggest that

3. Would you choose sunbites as a snack?
Yes, because we all enjoyed them and it saves buying everyone something different.

4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
DC preferred the sweet chilli, adults preferred the sour cream and pepper, but all liked both flavours. Interestingly, we thought that the flavour seemed to be ingrained in the sunbites with the sweet chilli, but coating them with the sour cream 🤔 did anyone else think that?

5. Would you buy Sunbites as a sharing bag or not?
Probably not, only because its harder to keep a track of who is having how much and I don't really want to exceed a pack based on the nutritional info. I'd definitely buy the multipacks though and share them out at times when a share bag might be used

6. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?
Roasted garlic and herbs - Yum!
