This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnet users who have been testing Sunbites in Sun Ripened Sweet Chilli and Sour Cream and Cracked Black Pepper flavours.

They were ok. Dh took a big liking to the black pepper and sour cream. The chilli ones were nice in small doses.

I felt the bags were a bit low in quantity. Quality was good. A good firm crunch.

For Dh's lunches yes! For me possibly not. The teens refused to try them!

I'm not a fan of either but in small doses yes they would be nice with dips. Dh has managed to get more sour cream and black pepper ones!

Love them! I've tried the cheaper wannabe supermarket versions and honestly these are better - crispy and well flavoured. Also like the fact they are more filling than ordinary crisps and a better snack for my kids

Really enjoyed both flavours. They have just the right amount of 'bite' and texture. I genuinely prefer them to crisps as well as being higher in fibre.

Really like both flavours. I'm always a fan of sour cream and black pepper flavours but actually preferred the sweet chilli as it wasn't overly spicy as some snacks can be. Just the right amount of spice and I got the depth of tomato flavouring too.

I prefer as individual packets for lunch/lunchbox. Not sure I would buy a sharing version.

We liked that they were a low calorie snack and although there didn’t look to be to many in the bag they were actually quite satisfying. There wasn’t really anything we disliked about them.

Yes, we had them for supper the first time and then with pre dinner drinks the following night.

4. What did you think of the Sunbites flavours you tried?
We all really liked the sweet chilli flavour. Dh said the sour cream and black pepper were a bit boring and could do with a dip (preferably blue cheese) but by the time he got to his second packet he had decided that the the flavour really came out when eaten with a glass of wine.

Yes, I think we would.

I tend to buy Sharing crisps that we can have dips with .Both these flavours are quite strong in taste on there own .So no I wouldn't by as a sharing bag

Very satisfied - we all tried them and liked them.

Liked the taste and the texture. However it didn't feel like there were many in a bag.

Yes we would. DC liked them as a change from other crisps in their lunch boxes.

Both were good. We preferred the sour cream/cracked pepper.

Probably not. I can't imagine putting them out as 'nibbles' if we have friends round - no rational reason for that though.

We liked the shape of the crisps and the fact they contained whole grain fibre.
I liked the fact they were lower calorie than other crisps.

Yes we would. If you wanted to improve them further I think the calories could be lowered further to make them 100kcal per bag.

We enjoyed both flavours. The black pepper and sour cream was fresh tasting. The sweet chilli had a nice mild kick to it.

1. We all liked the flavours, with preferences down to personal taste. Crunchy texture was good. Didn’t dislike anything.

1. I’d buy sunbites as a snack for DC and I’d choose them for myself if I weren’t trying to go easy on the snacks. The only thing that would hold me back is the packaging contribution to landfill - and that increasingly holds me back.

1. Flavours: some preferred the savouriness of the sour cream and black pepper, others the sweetness of the chilli flavour and the fact that you can feel the chilli without it being overpowering.

1. Other flavours: I love the idea up-thread of tomato and basil. I’d try an indeterminate roast vegetable flavour.

Very satisfied. The packaging design made it look like a good quality, natural snack.

Sunbites? Liked the fact they were very crunchy and that they seem better for you than normal fried crisps. There was nothing I disliked about them.

Yes, my DCs liked the chilli flavour so I would definitely buy those for their school lunch boxes.

My DH and DCs liked the chilli flavour, as did I. None of us were quite so keen on the sour cream, though all six bags were eaten!

Probably not because I love cheese & onion or any cheese concoction so would pick an ordinary crisp of cheese flavour.

Didn’t like the chilli flavour at first but it grew on me. Lots packed into each Sunbite so maybe an acquired taste Sour cream delicious

Probably more likely to buy an unhealthier crisp as a sharing bag as more people likely to eat it!

A very very cheesy one, like four cheese

I was very satisfied with both flavours of Sunbites. I liked the wheaty taste and disliked the small amount in the packet. I would definitely choose them as a tasty snack. My favourite was the sour cream flavour. The bags were too small to share. I would like to see plain salted, salt and pepper or bacon flavours too.

I like the amount that you receive in each bag, sometimes the amount of crisps can be a bit lacking. I like how crunchy and flavour full they were, all though I much prefer the sweet chilli ones, 110%. I did not particularly like the lack of taste on the sour cream ones, the flavour was lacking and could do with a more in your face flavour. The sweet chilli ones are a perfect snack that my daughter enjoys too,

I loved the sweet chilli one, my favourite so far and too 5 of all the crisps I have had so far from the shops. Did not really care for the sour cream ones, the flavour isn’t there and it doesn’t make me enjoy the crisps, i would rather leave them.

2. If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be? Hmm, possibly prawn cocktail. Love them but not sure how well it would do as a whole grain crisp. Another good new flavour a sort of flame grilled chorizo with roasted onion taste 👊😬

They’re light and crispy and very tasty. The only downside is that you don’t get many in a pack.

Yes, I’ve bought them since testing.

Sweet chilli isn’t hot enough/at all - my 7 year old is a master chilli-detector and ate most of them. It’s still delicious though. The sour cream one is really good - like Pringles but with the background flavour of the crisp itself so better.

Hot chilli one would be good, as would a lightly salted one.

1- we were very satisfied

2- I liked the texture are often my savoury cravings are as much about the crunch factor as the flavour. I feel they are quite filling, certainly the kids didn't ask for another packet right away as they sometimes do when crisps are involved, which is a massive thumbs up as it's both better health wise and also kinder on the pocket. I don't think I disliked anything really.

3- yes absolutely, the sour cream ones especially as we all liked them, whereas DS wasn't keen on the chilli ones. They would also make a great packed lunch item or side to go with some soup or a sandwich

4- I liked both flavours but preferred the sour cream. Dd(7yrs) liked both, but preferred the chilli ones. DS (9yrs) only liked the sour cream ones. We liked that they were different from your standard crisp flavours.

5- no. I think that they are quite filling and even with all three of us digging in, a share bag would leave some to waste or we would over indulge. I think they are better suited to a small snack / packed lunch item or a side.

6- um difficult. I love balsamic everything so maybe something like balsamic and caramelised onion flavour? Cream cheese and herbs would be nice. Sundried tomato and garlic too. Bring out anything, I'll try it

Maybe, I wouldn't not get them. The difference in calories and fat isn't huge though, so would probably stick with ordinary crisps 9 times out of 10 but nice for a change

Preferred the sweet chilli. The sour cream and black pepper wasn't unpleasant, but was a bit odd, like a weird mix of cheese & onion and salt & vinegar

Probably not, that is for indulgence not healthier options, and also the number in a bag would still be an issue proportionately.

I didn't dislike anything. The sweet chilli ones were a teeny bit sweet but it wouldn't put me off buying them again.

I loved the sour cream and black pepper. They had a nice subtle flavour that wasn't too onion based or over powering.

We really liked them. Way more than we expected to actually.

What did you like / dislike about Sunbites?

Good flavours, not too synthetic tasting. Good size bag - suitable for a light snack but not so big you totally pig out on them. Not as crappy for you as expected.

Would you choose sunbites as a snack?

Yes. They're a good salty aperitif with a glass of beer or wine. A proper Friday snack.

We liked them both but preferred the chilli ones. They reminded me of Frazzles, which probably dates me.

Yes. I'm guessing there wouldn't be a lot of sharing going on though.

If Sunbites could launch a new flavour, what would you like it to be?

Ooh, good question. Nothing too fancy. None of your prosciutto and fig crap. A nice classic salt and pepper perhaps. Or smoky bacon. Marmite? Yum. Drooling now.

2. I loved the taste, particularly the sweet chilli, and the amount in a pack. There was nothing I disliked.
3. Yes I would choose them for a snack, I’m a crisp addict but always trying to stay healthy and eat more wholegrain.
4. Loved the sweet chilli, full of flavour, and I liked the sour cream without loving it, the flavour was less interesting.
5. I wouldn’t buy them as a sharing bag, I think they’re enough in small amounts as they’re thick, flavourful and crunchy, rather than as a “mindless” snack.
6. Salt and vinegar is my ultimate favourite flavour in crisps so I’d love a tasty take on that.

Sunbites? I liked the crunchy texture and the fact that they didn’t taste powdery or greasy at all. Disliked the sweet chilli flavour it was really sweet tasting, like artificial sweetener.

A really punchy prawn cocktail would be lovely. Thanks for including us in the test, I tried them years ago and hated them so I was really pleasantly surprised the DC loved them!

I loved the taste of both crisps and didn’t like the fact the bags did not have a lot in them.

They were tasty and different to other crisps out there. I don’t think any other brand has a similar type of crisp to this.

We all really liked the cream and black pepper ones, the sweet chilli ones were just ok, we liked the fact you could taste the grains and that they felt healthier than normal crisps due to lack of grease.

I think the sweet chilli ones need to be improved, I'd make them stronger and more spicey. Cheesey ones would also be good, very cheesey ones.
