This is the feedback thread for Mumsnetters with children aged 5-10 who tested out the Tesco F&F school uniform range. Each tester was given a £20 Tesco voucher to go into store and buy uniform for their 5-10 year olds and have been testing out the uniform the last few weeks.

Here’s what Tesco F&F has to say: “Tesco uniforms are our best uniforms yet and with features such as reinforced knees on trousers, As-New technology, Teflon coating (eco-friendly) and much more, we’re confident that they will last and last and last.”

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

All testers who leave their feedback on this thread and fill in the short feedback survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Tesco voucher!

Thanks

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

I shopped at 2 Tescos Extra stores (both within 2 miles of my house and the children’s primary school) to try to spend my vouchers. Was quite diappointed in the lack of size availability in pale blue polo shirts (part of our primary’s core uniform and a big school in the local area) and more general uniform items. Only the core uniform components, namely grey trousers, grey skirts, black trousers, white shirts, white polos, and girls summer dresses were better stocked across the size ranges. Everything else was very bitty or non existent. Surprising at the start of July in 2 huge Tescos superstores.
So it was hard to work out the spend required had it all been available.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

1-2 terms?

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No staff manning childrenswear and very few staff around generally in non food sections of the store.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

I bought PE items and pale blue polos. They seemed ok.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the pale blue polos but disappointed that they hadn’t been available to try for my 8yr old son as well as my 10yr old daughter. Because he generally experiences more wear and tear...

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child? No as my daughter is 8 but tall, the higher ages are much more expensive. Also I couldn’t get all the items in her size.
Without shoes and winter jacket I can spend around £22 and get everything in Aldi.
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed? No the uniform in store was cramped into a small space and was quite messy. I was unable to get skirts, long shirts and socks in her size.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these? White shirts don’t last a whole year as they never stay white so I think around April they will need to be replaced. The cardigans quality is amazing so will last the next year.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range? No I didn’t need to talk to staff.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in? Extremely well! She commented that she liked her new clothes where she normally doesn’t say anything about uniform.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again? I normally think m&s is best but recently switched to aldi who is cheap and lasts just as long before they outgrow it. Tesco was a bit more expensive than aldi but the quality and comfort I was impressed with.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I managed to get a pack of 2 polos, a pack of 2 shirts and trousers, I didn't find the PE kit I was looking for which would have gone over the £20. Not including shoes I would spend £40-£50 normally.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

Not to begin with. The superstores I visited had a very limited range and not in my DD size or the colour I wanted. The online store was closing so no joy there.
It was a chance visit to a Tesco Metro where I found uniform I could buy. But this was over a few days of searching and if it wasn't for the trial I would have gone elsewhere to buy her uniform.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

Look good so far. Hopefully they will last the year.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No. Didn't talk to staff.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

My DD is 10 and usually this size fits her well. The polos were big but after washing they shrunk and fit her much better.
The trousers were perfect length but too loose on the waist. Their design meant you couldn't use a belt.
DD found the polos and shirts very comfortable and easy to wear. The collars have kept their shape really well so far.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

The price is affordable and they are good quality. The polos are thinner than the ones I usually buy but DD preferred that because of the current weather.
I would buy them again but only if they were available in my local stores.

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

no and we spend around £50-£60 per child excluding shoes.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

no a very poor range consisting of a handful of boys shirts, 2 girls blouses for a 5 year old, plenty of boys trouser and some back socks.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

N/A

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

i did speak to several members of staff and was told the new range comes out on 22nd July and they wouldn't get it despite having several cages out the back.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

N/A

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I got all the essentials bar shoes and the badges school jumper (obviously) normally I would spend slightly more as I like to make sure they have 5 sets of uniform.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

Yes they had a good range of sizes in all items at my local store

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

Hopefully the trousers should last him quite a while as they seem to be a decent thickness and they wash well so it would only be if he managed to get a hole in them

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

I wanted to as I wanted to ask about reinforced knees but unfortunately there was no staff member anywhere in the clothing section to approach

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes and yes.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

So far so good. I liked the range they had in store and the fact the store stocked different colours and sizes of items, however my “local” Tesco that stocks a decent range is 25 miles away and now they have stopped the online ordering I possibly would not purchase in the future due to this.

Elliejojo · 23/07/2018 07:47

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I couldn’t get everything because of such low stock :( but if everything was there we probably would have been able to get most clothes ( not shoes) for a bit over £20. Some things were quite cheap.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed? Sadly not, it was incredibly low on most sizes, and there were no blue summer dresses only blue dress shorts
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
If it’s anything like my daughters uniform I bought 2 years ago then it will last through at least 2 children. My daughters grey school dresses from 2 years ago still look as good as new and she is now passing them on to her younger sister.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No there wasn’t really anything to ask as I knew more stock was coming soon.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
Yes, it is comfortable and fit well
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I didn’t like the feel of the summer dresses as much as I’ve liked one we have from M&S. it felt as good as the Sainsbury’s range items I have. I would buy it again as I have bought Tesco’s uniform before and it has lasted really well. It’s also really good value.

Thank you for choosing us!

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
No I couldn't get everything I'd need but could still get a decent amount for the money. I would normally spend about £50 per child including jumpers from school.
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
I struggled to get everything I needed as my 2 local stores despite saying they stocked clothing only stocked the basics. I had to get a friend to pick up some bits from another larger store. We did get what we needed in the right size thought eventually.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
The socks and polo shirts probably by Christmas but the short should last next summer too.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No, I didn't talk to any staff.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
Yes it fitted well and he said it felt comfortable.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
If I could buy it at my local stores or if I was near a larger store then yes I would buy it again. I felt the polo shirts were better than ASDA's and a better price than M&S.
Lindy2 · 23/07/2018 08:00
  • Could you get everything you needed for £20?
I would be able to get 1 set of uniform for £20 but my children would need extra sets.

How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
£30 - £40 excluding new shoes.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
No I really struggled. The range in store/particularly the sizes was very very limited. The only pe tops available were age 3-4 years. There were about 4 packs in that size and nothing else. I needed navy blue girls trousers but you don't do navy blue (all the other supermarkets do). It was very difficult to actually find items to buy in the right size and colour. Despite being a superstore the stock was very poor. I had to buy according to what there was that was actually in the right size and colour rather than actually having any choice. I ended up with a playsuit dress (would have preferred a normal dress but there were none) and tights and socks, as these were the only useable items.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I would hope they will last one school year being worn once or twice a week.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No. There were very few staff to be seen.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
It was ok. I had to go a size bigger for the dress as the cut is very narrow. The material is comfortable though and seems good quality.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
The items you have are good and compare well to other brands. The range of colours and sizes is very limited though as almost everything for trousers and dresses are black or grey. It means our local Tesco, despite being the closest supermarket to our school, can't cater for the girls thete as dresses and trousers need to be navy. Other nearby stores (m&s, asda, sainsburys, matalan) do all stock a range of navy items. I would buy Tesco uniform again if I can get the items I need in the right size and colour. The lack of range and no online preordering service does mean I tend to go elsewhere though.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

We got trousers (though not in the right size!), shirts, pe t shirts, pe shorts and socks. Our school has specific jumpers available only through the school. (Pinafores and skirts too for girls!).
We couldn’t have got a full outfit including shoes and Pe kit for £20 because of the price of the school specific jumpers. Definitely couldn’t get a full girl’s outfit for our school for £20 because of the school specific pinafore/skirt and cardigan/jumper needed.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

There seemed to be quite a big section for uniform in store but clearly not every size in every item. We couldn’t get the right size trousers. They also didn’t have the size I needed in long sleeved shirts for my daughter either so I must’ve been really unlucky with sizes that day.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I expect everything I bought to last the whole year although we chose not to buy the shorts as they seemed very thin like they would rip easily.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

I didn’t talk to any store staff about the range.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

We were unable to buy the correct size trousers and so I bought the size up, which were, as expected
too big. The rest of the uniform
seemed to fit as expected and looked and seemed comfortable.(They didn’t complain!)

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I really like the feel of the shirts- they feel like good quality material. They do seem to look the same after washing a few times too.
The white pe shirt still looks ok after washing- some other brand t-shirts we have bought have wrinkled around the neck and sleeves once washed but these didn’t. However, the pe shirt did get a stain on it and that hasn’t come out after being hot washed and I expected that stain to come out. Perhaps some sort of coating on the t-shirts would be useful to prevent stains, with it being a white t-shirt. Though it has been worn more than it would have been over usual school weeks.
I would definitely buy the shirts again and have already recommended them to other parents.

leanneth · 23/07/2018 08:15

Forgot to say - we normally spend more than £20 on school shoes too, I’ve never dared to try supermarket shoes for school.

CusheyButterfield · 23/07/2018 08:16

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

My dd is 6 and we managed to get one of everything we needed (2 polos as they were in a pack), including pe shorts and plimsolls!)

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

There wasn’t a huge range when I went in, but the display has massively expanded since then, so I’m sure there will be lots more available now. There was still everything that we required though.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I hope that they’ll last the school year - as long as my daughter can keep market pen away from her polo shirts!
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
I didn’t need to ask anyone.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
It does fit well and my dad found it comfy. I love the adjustable waist on the skirts and the cardigan was my daughter’s favourite.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I would definitely buy it again, particularly as it’s so reasonable and Tesco is very close to my home. I’ve always bought m & s in the past and I am very pleasantly surprised at the quality and value for money from Tesco!
Iamthemotherofdragons · 23/07/2018 09:13
  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

No, £20 bought me two dresses and 6 polo shirts. I’ll need to buy 2 skirts and 3 cardigans on top of that as well as tights, PE kit etc. I’ll probably spend around £100 altogether on uniform.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

There wasn’t a huge range available. I was able to buy dresses and polo shirts in the correct size but I wouldn’t have been able to get cardigans, tights or skirts.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

I would imagine that the dresses will last the year, apart from the belts which may wear out quicker. The polo shirts will last a term or two I think.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

Yes I asked a member of staff when the rest of the uniform would be coming in to store and they could answer this for me.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes the dresses and polo shirts fitted really well. It can be quite difficult getting dresses to fit my daughter but these were a good length and a lovely soft material. My daughter said that she was comfy in what I’d bought and I could see she could move well in it.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I would say it compares well to other supermarket brands. It doesn’t feel as sturdy as M&S uniform. The only thing that looked cheap was there belts on the dresses. Yes I’d buy from Tescos again as it was good quality for the price.

ReynoldsGirl · 23/07/2018 09:51
  • I was able to get what I needed for the last two weeks of school but I wouldn't have been able to get everything I wanted for £20. I usually buy enough for a polo shirt for each day and at least 3 pairs of shorts or trousers, plus logoed jumpers, PE kit, shoes, coat.
Having said that, I thought the items I bought were reasonably priced.
  • there was a good range of items and sizes available in the store I visited. In previous experience, most shops seem to have lots in for the back to school period and nothing much at other times. So I was pleasantly surprised.

-I would hope the uniform would last all year, based on each polo shirt being worn once per week and shorts or trousers 2/3 times per week.

  • I did not speak to staff in store.

-the fit of the items I bought was good. I was pleased with the waist adjusters on the shorts, there were plenty of buttons for a good fit.

  • Tesco uniform compared well with other supermarket uniform items I have purchased previously, for quality and price.
I would buy from there again and intend to in the next few weeks.
3girlsunder3 · 23/07/2018 09:53

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much do you usually spend ?

  • No I struggled to find anything in the correct colour to fit. We need proper blouses as cannot have polo shirts or summer dresses, and black skirts or trousers. Despite being a v large local school there was very little choice. I bought pe shorts, one skirt and a pack of blouses. I need school logo-ed jumpers and pe shirts so have to buy those from the uinform supplier. Because of this I spend around £95 per child including shoes.

Was there a good range available in store? Could you get specific size items needed?

  • No. There was very little stock despite being a large store, and most was several of the same item in the same size. Very little variety. I had to buy things which were not my preferred size or style.

Based on the quality, when do you expect to replace?

  • I don't feel confident the pe shorts wI'll last a year. The blouses are comparable to other supermarket one so should last a year hopefully, not sure about the skirt as I don't think the permanent pleats will last.

Did you talk to any staff about the range? We're they helpful?

  • Yes, very helpful. The new range is in store this week and I was told there would be more available then.

Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable?

  • My daughter is tall for her age, so I need to size up. The blouses fit fine in the correct age and we're comfy, the skirt was quite big. The pe shorts were weirdly long and despite being 2-3 years too small in size, were much too long .

How did Tesco uniform compare to other brands, would you buy it again?

  • The quality of the items I bought is variable. The sizing is also hit and miss, and in sizes over age 9 the prices seem dearer than Asda. The stock selection is very poor and for that reason, no, I dont think I would try tesco for main uniform shopping. Happy to buy bits as and when but just not enough in store to attempt a full shop.
I have been very pleased with some school shoes bought for my older daughter, not as part of this trial, which have lasted brilliantly however, so despite normally buying Clarks, I would definitely look at f&f school shoes.

1.Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I definitely couldn't get everything I needed. For 20 I only managed to buy 2 skirts and 2 dresses for my girl.

2.Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

At the end of the term they didn't have much choice and had to choose one skirt size bigger than needed.

3.Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

Not sure yet but not happy with permanent pleases on skirts as after just one wash had to iron them properly to make sure they will stay in place.

  1. Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

Yes I asked if they have any more uniforms but lady told me that they only have whatever was on hangers as it is end of term.

  1. Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes it is comfortable.

  1. How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I just bought some more unifrom from Aldi, was so much cheaper and claims same teflon technology. Daughter didn't have chance yet to wear it but had already washed it and ironed it and it looks that quality is very similar, just different style of course for only couple quit.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
I normally shop at Aldi so it’s pretty cheap. I could get all I needed for under £20 at Tesco, polo shirts, shorts and trousers. I buy school jumpers with the logo on.
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
Good range but they didn’t have shorts without cargo pockets in the right size , which I would have preferred.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I’d expect it to last until they grow out of it. Seems pretty good quality.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
Only to ask if they had any shorts in the right size, they seemed quite knowledgeable and checked stock for me.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
Yes, lovely fit and he finds it comfy, easy to move about in.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I’d definitely buy again. I was actually surprised at how good value it was. I normally buy Aldi t shirts but they do come up small and shrink, Tesco seems to be good size wise.

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
Yes, I couldn't spend the whole £20 as there wasn't a very big selection in my son's size. I'd normally spend about £30 I think? More like £50 when you include shoes.

Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
No, there were no shorts in the right size and not many polo shirts but I did find some. It's the biggest Tesco for miles so I was surprised.

Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
In 6 months maybe? Perhaps longer but my son is very very messy!

Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
I didn't talk to anyone

Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
Yes it looks really nice and seems comfortable. I like the material.

How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I really liked it. I like the material and it washes well and seems to crease less than other brands. I'll buy it again.

-Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
Probably spend about £50 for one child including shoes, tights, socks, vests, summer dresses, pinafores, and polo shirts. I wasn't able to get everything but tried some polo shirts and summer dresses. Have bought some tights but it's been too warm to test them! My daughter has very narrow feet so the shoes are not even worth trying.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
There was a fairly good range in the Tesco Extra, I noticed lots of smaller sizes available though. I was after 5-6 and 6-7.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
Probably would have to replace every year, not because of the quality but because of the white polo shirts not staying white. I noticed that the dresses have started to bobble where my daughter carries her backpack and some of the hem is coming loose on one of the dresses.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No didn't speak to anyone.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
T shirts fitted well (except on one the hem has gone on lopsided); my daughter has a long body and seemed to cover her well. The dresses fitted nice too but perhaps needed to be a bit longer (perhaps an option to have a choice of lengths might be nice).
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
They last well for the price and I would buy again. I think I would probably choose to buy more expensive (M and S) as it just looks nicer in my perspective.

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

No I couldn’t get everything for £20.

Normally would probably spend about £50 including shoes

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

No it was a small range. None of the correct colour tops for my children’s school

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

I think they will last all year

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
There were no f&f staff on the shop floor to talk to. I wanted to ask about whether or not they would get any of the correct colour top in
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes very nice fit and soft. Good for playing, comfy.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

Compared like to like with other supermarkets. I like the slim fit option at Tesco which i haven’t seen anywhere else.

Thank you very much for letting us test these.

I couldn't get everything because I needed 5 shirts and trousers. I've spent over £30 before.

I could get the sizes but had to go to a further out larger branch because my local one didn't have much stock at all.

I'm hoping that they'll last until my son grows out of them. I'd expect them to last that long unless the trousers get ripped.

Only at my local branch to ask where all the stock was. They knew about the range and availability.

Yes, it fitted well. There were no complaints about comfort. We've bought shirts from another shop before that he said were itchy. These were not thank goodness.

They were more comfortable and also better value for money than other uniform that I've bought. I have bought some that was cheaper and quality was OK. Pleased to say that it was better than some more expensive uniform I've bought from department stores.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20?
Price wise yes I could have got 1 set of school uniform for less than £20. How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child? I would usually buy sweatshirts from school with the logo on so this would bump up the price. I would probably spend another £30 on polo shirts and trousers/shorts. Shoes around £25 trainers about £35. Pe kit would be less than £5. School coat another £20. Bag and packed lunch bag I would only replace if needed but would be another £10 each.
  • Was there a good range available in store?
No the range in my local store (which is a very large store) was really poor. They only had white polo shorts available and despite having red cardigans in the girls section they didn’t have any red sweatshirts.

Could you get the specific size items you needed?
I ended up only being able to get trousers. There was a wide range of styles/colours available but only 1 style/colour in the size I needed.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
They will certainly last a full school year and probably will be passed down to a sibling as well.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
I asked about availability of other colours in polo shirts/sweatshirts. I was told to ‘look online’
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
As with all trousers for my son the leg fit well but the waist was on the large side. This was easily rectified as the trousers had an adjustable waist.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again

The quality of the uniform was fantastic however I probably won’t go there for the main uniform purchase because I can’t easily get everything I need.

As I said on the previous thread I didn’t manage to buy any uniform. 3 trips and no black shorts at all in store, no white short sleeved shirts, white polo shirts or black socks in the right sizes. Not impressed and the reason I usually buy uniform online.

Could you get everything you needed for £20?
No I couldn’t - I would need to spend more to have a full uniform

How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
Probably around £50 not including shoes - this would include embroidered jumpers, p.e. Kit winter and summer uniform, coat

  • Was there a good range available in store?
No - i usually buy uniform online so that I can be sure to get everything I need. I wasn’t able to buy all I needed in store

Could you get the specific size items you needed?
No I ended up having to buy a bigger size for some

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I would hope to be have to only replace once they’ve been grown out of.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
My son had no complaints and they seemed to fit fine
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I would only buy again if I could buy online - I find it much more convenient and I couldn’t find all I needed in store. Based on the quality yes I’d buy again

Could you get everything you needed for £20?
I did not get everything for £20, but it was a good start. I

How much would you
normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
would normally spend around /335-£40, but this would include shoes, socks, vests etc.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
In my local store there was not a good range. For example, I could not get the grey school trousers in my chosen size, so I travelled to another store around 3 miles away.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I will see the shirts lasting the whole school year. I usually buy one for each day of the week anyway so that it does not wear and tear too soon. The same for the school trousers.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
I asked at my local store and so made the decision to travel to a different store.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
The uniform fitted well and was comfortable to wear according to my son.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I have bought from Asda in past and it seems fairly similar in quality and price. I would definitely buy again. My only issue is that the lack of stock in store and the fact that I would rather a click and collect option for the convenience.
