This is the feedback thread for Mumsnetters with children aged 5-10 who tested out the Tesco F&F school uniform range. Each tester was given a £20 Tesco voucher to go into store and buy uniform for their 5-10 year olds and have been testing out the uniform the last few weeks.

Here’s what Tesco F&F has to say: “Tesco uniforms are our best uniforms yet and with features such as reinforced knees on trousers, As-New technology, Teflon coating (eco-friendly) and much more, we’re confident that they will last and last and last.”

Testers please answer the following questions:

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

All testers who leave their feedback on this thread and fill in the short feedback survey will be entered into a prize draw to win a £300 Tesco voucher!

Thanks

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I got 2 pairs of shorts, 2 t shirts and 5 pairs of socks. I'd usually also buy 2 pairs of trousers, 3 more t shirts, shoes, and pe shorts and a pe t shirt. And jumpers. So definitely more than £20.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
Couldn't find the right size t shirts. Brought a size bigger.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
The t shirts seem to get horribly stained. I've tried vanish, a 60 degree wash, sunshine, but they still Look terrible. So I think I'd have to replace them quite often. The shorts and socks seem fine.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
Yes. My son is skinny so he liked the fact that the shorts had an adjustable waist.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
My son liked the pockets on the shorts and the adjustable waist. I'd buy those again. Not the t shirts as they stained so badly. I was pleased to be able to find grey socks so I'd get those again.

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

No I managed to get about half of what I would normally buy for a full school year, I would probably spend just over double so about £50 per boy excluding shoes and jumpers which are logoed. I normally tend to buy in the M&S 20% off sale.
*

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?*

No - my younger wears yellow polo tops for school and you didn't have these in store at all?! I managed to get a mix across both boys but I couldn't have completed one child in one shop.
*

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?*

Tops I tend to buy 2/3 lots through the year as they can get quite messy, the shorts seem really good quality for the price I was surprised and they fit nicely.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?*

No I didn't.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?*

The tops were lovely as were the shorts, a little disappointed in the trousers - far too baggy for the length and there were no slim fit options like in the stores I currently use so they generally just looked a bit frumpy and untidy where as the slim fit look much nicer! No complaints on the comfort side of things.

*

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?*

The range wasn't as good as some stores I generally go to, this puts me off a little as I like to go and just get it all in one go, my little ones would have been really annoyed if I had dragged them school uniform shopping 2/3 times! I would probably buy the tops again for my eldest but only if I was to go in store as I said you didn't stock the colour for my youngest so wouldn't be with a trip there for that alone!

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20?
I managed to get most of the uniform but not everything

How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

Depends, 30 - 40 for primary uniform but much more for secondary as the uniform is specific and can only get from the school.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

There range was good but lots of sizes were not in the store at the time I went. Also lots of clothes on the wrong hanger so a bit of a nightmare to find correct sizes.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

The quality is good, I can see it lasting well.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No i didn't talk.to staff

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

I found the sizes can up big, for girls anyway. My daughter is 10 and although a bit on the small size I ended up buying age 7-8 for her. But it did fit well. And she said it felt comfortable.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

Yes I would buy again. In comparison to other brands I would say it it reasonably priced, good quality and you can buy while doing a normal shop so easy.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20?
If all stock was put out I probably could have. There was hardly anything in store. I managed to get trousers, a pinafore and some Tshirts. How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child? I would probably spend around £50 in store just stocking up on dresses, trousers, tshirts; tights and socks etc up until the next term, cardigans etc need to be branded so have these elsewhere.
  • Was there a good range available in store?
No there wasn't a good range in store, thr summer things were out and not the uniform so was very hard to get Could you get the specific size items you needed? Hardly anything; that's why we had a pinafore, and trousers to test in a heatwave!
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these? Tshirts straight away, as these shrunk and discoloured in the wash, even after following instructions. Pinafore ironed terribly so would replace this with permanent pleats!
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
Yes, was told the new uniform was coming out 2 weeks from when we needed to purchase for the testing!
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
Trousers were too long in the leg, and didn't sit correctly around the waist, Tshirts were great until they were washed; and the pinafore was a nightmare to try and iron, didn't look nice after first wash.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past?
I normally buy from George, and to be honest I'll prob stick to it; they wash well, clothes fit nicely and have no complaints. Tesco on the other hand; didn't wash well & shrunk! Not sure if this was old or new stock though! Would you buy it again? No, I'd stick to My usual place as I know how they wear and wash!

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I could have got almost all uniform but I got shoes, skirt, polos and socks with the voucher and also got a pinafore separate. I would normally spend around 30-35 pounds on back to school clothes and that includes shoes.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

Yes, I was very impressed with the range and the sizes. Was easily able to get everything I needed.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

Really happy with the quality. I don't think Any of the items will need replacing until they're to small. Even then they will likely be passed down to younger sibling.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

Yes, I asked about shoes and they were very helpful in helping me find them and the right size.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes, the skirts are adjustable which is great as my daughter is quite slim and things are often large on the waist. She's been very comfortable in all the uniform.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

Tesco have been the best uniform I have used and I'll be purchasing all uniform there now. I purchased from another place last year and the uniform didn't last, won't do that again!

Thanks for choosing us for this trial, great uniform from Tesco!

babycakes1010 · 20/07/2018 11:29

Thank you for allowing us to take part in this trial.

Unfortunately I couldn't get everything I needed on £20. I tend to spend about 30 to 35 on uniform alone and that's not including school shoes. I managed to get some polo shirts.. skirt..tights and socks.
I went to 2 of my local stores and had difficulty finding anything in my dd size so ended up going to another town that also didn't have that much available in sizes or colours I needed.
I will replace the polo shirts after today due to the fact they have already shrunk and my 2 year old fits in it! Other then that the skirts will see her through the year.
I spoke to a couple of staff with regards to the sizing to see if they had any additional stock and unfortunately they didn't.
The skirt tights and socks were a nice fit and my dd found them comfortable just a shame the polo shirts didn't live up to the same quality when washed.
I would say a couple of items lived up to the same standard to other brands I've purchased previously but I don't think I will buy f&f again. Sorry! Reason being I had to drive around to numerous stores for sizing and I like to buy it all in one go in the same place and I would never buy the polo shirts again.

SouthwarkSkaters · 20/07/2018 11:31

- Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
To be honest, I had to work hard to spend the whole £20 - see answer below.
As DD (9) is fairly small and very good at not destroying her uniform, I only replace what needs replacing so don’t really have a ‘back-to-school’ budget. Shoes always need replacing. I’d say £50-60 including shoes.

- Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
It was absolutely dreadful. Only a handful of girls items, no red polos under 11-12, no red cardigans... DD is sort of in between sizes, so I managed to get some 7-8 and some 8-9.

- Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
They seem ok quality wise, but they’re massive so I expect them to last a couple of years.

- Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
I didn’t speak to anyone.

- Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
The playsuit, which is 7-8, fits ok and DD loves it. Everything else is ok lengthwise but massive around the waist. I had to pull the skirt’s waist all the way in. The pinafore could probably fit 2 of my DD Grin which I suppose is good for bigger kids but not for us. Cycling shorts had to be held in place by the skirt and will now go to the back of the drawer for when she grows a bit.

- How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
The sizing is way off for us, there are better sized uniforms available elsewhere. Quality seems comparable to other cheap supermarket stuff but, again, there’s better stuff available (though at a higher price point). I would possibly go back for playsuits as DD likes hers a lot and has worn hers for most of the past two weeks, but not for anything else, sorry.

“Could you get everything you needed for £20? What would you normally spend on back to school uniforms?”

My local Tesco is an hour away and didn’t have a huge selection of uniform, there were no blue polos, nothing in navy at all, just grey and black trousers and PE shorts and white polos. I passed the voucher to my sister who lives near to Wrexham and had a far better choice. Once in the store Lotty FaceTimed me and I was able to direct her to all the things I needed. I added more money so that I could have the full uniform, including shoes and PE kit so that I could give the uniform a fair trial. In total I spent an extra £20.
I would normally shop around for Ollies school uniform he’s 8 years old but very tall for his age, I would normally get polos, trousers and shorts from TU clothing range and jumpers from Debenhams. My usual cost for uniform, which includes additional trousers, polos, shoes, socks, PE kit, coat and jumpers is around £130 so I was excited to try the Tesco uniform range.

How did the Tesco uniform fit? Choice? Prices? Quality? Durability? Comfort? What my Son thought?

I found the trousers to be absolutely perfect and true to size which I was really impressed about! I love that the 9-10 sizes still have an adjustable waist, which is ideal for us as Ollie is tall but slim for his age. I love the reinforced knees as my little man is always sliding and tackling on the play field playing football. The polos are thick quality and you can tell they will stand up to washing and tumble drying, I love the multipack option on polos tops as you definitely need more than one!
The jumpers are incredibly soft and fluffy on the inside which my little man absolutely loved, I’ve washed them a handful of times and there has been no color fade and they are still really soft inside! They fit perfectly and I’m told they are really comfortable and not restricting in any way at all.
I was most excited to try the school shoes as I always spend way to much on shoes. I liked that they are wide fitting, velcro as my little man hates to rush to get dressed after PE so perfect, ollie said they were really comfortable and didn’t suffer any blisters or discomfort in the first 2 weeks of wearing them, they polish really well and still look brand new!
I wasn’t able to find any black pimsoles for PE so wasn’t able to test them, staff in store informed my Sister they will be in stock soon. I also wasn’t able to get a school coat buts that was down to it being the wrong time fo year.

Compared to the TU brand, the trousers are thicker quality, iron really well, are comfortable and don’t itch, I really love the adjustable waists and will definitely repurchase when I have to from Tesco! The polos, jumpers and shorts are fantastic from the Tesco range and we really couldn’t fault them.
TU polos we found fade and shrink a lot, I need a longer testing period to compare.

The final review has to come from my little boy. Ollie loves that everything comes from one shop so I won’t have to take him all over to pick up different bits, he loves the shoes so much as they are the most comfortable he’s ever worn! The fluffy inside of the sweatshirts are a huge thumbs up from Ollie aswell.

In conclusion I will definitely purchase further uniform from the school range at at Tesco and I will be getting a school coat, bag and all Ollies stationary from there also.
Thank you Tesco for giving us this opportunity to test your uniform range and inturn saving lots of pennies!

Lovelongweekends · 20/07/2018 11:34

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

£20 would normally buy the basics but when you add on shoes, underwear, pe kit etc I’d probably spend nearer £40.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

No, very poor range of sizes which unfortunately I find is often the case in my local store.
Took two separate visits to spend the £20, I would have bought a lot more if it had been available.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

They look good quality and I expect them to last until they are grown out of and then to be passed down to younger siblings.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No staff around to speak to.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

I find Tesco sizing comes up small, my 7yr old wears 9-10yrs but she is tall.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

It was good quality and looked smart and washed well. It’s a pity the gingham dresses can’t be tumble dried as I was only able to get hold of one so would be handy to wash and dry it overnight. Otherwise very happy and will definitely buy again.

Dear team

Thank you for selecting me for taking part in the Tesco F&F school uniform range. My son is five years old and here are my answers:

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child? No, I was unable to get everything I wanted with the £20 voucher. The complete uniform, including the PE kit and shoes, would cost me about £65.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed? No, there wasn’t a good range available of all the items. There was a good range of trousers and shorts but there was only one type of polo shirts. I was able to get everything I needed, except for the PE kit.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these? I don’t think I’ll have to replace these items, they seem to be of good quality.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range? No, I didn’t speak to any staff. There was none about when I went to the shop.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in? Yes, the uniform fitted well and my son was very happy with it.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again? It looks like to be of better quality in comparison to other brands I bought before. Overall, the F&F brand is high on my list as being very good for value for the whole family.
Fingermoose · 20/07/2018 11:38
  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

My reception child is small and slim so even the smallest school trousers were too big around the waist. I did like the quality but we were only able to buy underwear and shoes to fit him.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

No - as above. There were limited choices in store and nothing online.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

When he grows out of the shoes (we're hoping they'll last the summer)

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

As above - we couldn't find anything to fit.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I may buy it when he's bigger but it seems it will always be too big around the waist to fit leg length, or too short on the leg if it fits the waist.

DelurkingAJ · 20/07/2018 11:40
  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

No, as we both work FT and my DS is in Reception and there still spills yoghurt etc down himself regularly we need 5 polo shirts, 3 trousers, 3 shorts, 6 socks plus PE shorts and shoes for normal and PE. Jumpers and PE tshirts are School specific. Normally spend £40 on non branded non shoes.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
No. Hopeless. There was one pack of polo shirts and one twin pack of shorts. No trousers, no socks and insufficient of everything else. Two visits and I managed that little.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

DS will grow out of them first. Polo shirts are already stained and don’t seem to bleach (which is irritating as nothing else seems to remove whiteboard pen). But I accept that as that’s been the case for every brand we’ve ever bought. Thankfully the shorts have elastic ayes waists as we need 4-5 for the waist and 6-7 for the length.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
A lovely lady ransacked the stockroom for me but to no avail. Hopeless that you can’t preorder as then I would just order and collect happily.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

No problem although the polo shirts do flap on my slim DS (90th percentile height, 50th weight).

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

Much of a muchness. I will buy where it is easiest to get all the uniform in one go. I have also massively struggled with availability if DS grows during the year, which doesn’t seem unlikely. Trying to stock up is fine but it seems crazy that I can’t even order from Tesco!

stickladilove · 20/07/2018 11:41
  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

Yes I was able to buy the basic uniform set for my daughter, but she needs two more sets to avoid washing mid week

Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

Yes although I couldn't find grey trousers for girls. I bought the black girls trousers however it has too many buttons

Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

I think this will last for next academic year because I bought one size up

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

They checked me for 8-9 size availability in their stock room, that was helpful

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes it fit well and comfortable

How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I have bought Tesco pinafore and school shoes before and overall I'm impressed with the quality. I would like to see more stock availability in all sizes because I couldn't find summer dresses 8-9 size. I will definitely buy again.

Thank you for the voucher!

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
I got everything uniform wise I needed for £20, strangely the trousers for age 9-10 were cheaper than age 10-11. I would normally spend about £30-40.

Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
There was a good range but crammed onto a small stand, I think a better/larger arrangement would be helpful. I got what I needed which was excellent, so often I go looking for uniform and find that I cant get the size needed.

Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I think that the uniform will last a year, the trousers were long (a bit too long for my little boy -he is small for his age) I had to turn them up. The knee sections tend to get worn out from a years use!

Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
I could not see anyone, but did not need help. There was a massive amount of stock, but some looked different, like last years stock mixed in. Sizes were all in a mess and it took a bit of searching for the right things.

Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
The waist on the trousers is adjustable so that is great. The length needed adjusting- as I would expect as my son is short for his age. It is a shame there is a clip instead of a button so if it comes off its not so easy to fix, or so secure. My son was comfortable he said they we not too hot like other brands he has worn.

How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
The material seems to be strong and resilient, they seem that they will withstand a bit more use than the cheap Marks and Spencer ones I got last year. They have the same clasp instead of a button, which is a shame. But I don't think my son was bothered by this.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I would normally spend more on everything, but only because I buy a few of each to last. But I would have enough to buy one of each with £20 but not including shoes

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
Yes there was everything I needed, depending on where you live and the school your child goes too there is not always the correct colour summer dresses but you would have to go to your local one to get the right colours which is understandable.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I hope they would last the whole school year

No

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I have bought from several different supermarkets and M&S and JL but was happy with the quality of Tesco uniform.

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

Wow, how much is a scary thought. Easily £100 all in I think. So for £20 I managed to get some dresses and cardigans.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

Honestly, no. I have also just noticed that you can't order F&F clothing online which is bonkers!

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

When they don't fit so next year for dresses (Easter?). Cardis I would hope for a full school year.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

I didn't so cannot comment.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes, my daughter felt very comfortable and happy to run about in. It fitted beautifully.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I would buy it again as good quality and affordable. I am concerned re lack of choice in store though and new inability to buy and collect in store. That is a major pain and may mean me doing a big shop elsewhere as I have limited time to go in store and they don't typically have the sizes I need.

fluttershyby · 20/07/2018 11:54

Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

No I couldn't get everything for £20 because my daughter is a tall 10yr old and the price goes up. I’d usually get 5 polo shirts plus 3 bottoms. I probably would spend about £60 on a back to school just replacing worn uniform and replacing as and when needed during the year.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed.
There was only a limited supply of items and sizes in store. Only black bottoms, my daughter usually wears charcoal but her school allows black too. No skirts in her size and no skorts at all. Only white polo shirts available in small sizes, no other colours available. No cardigans at all. The choice was quite disappointing and I ended up with 2 pairs of trousers only, even socks weren’t available in her size.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I’m hoping they will last until outgrown. The material feels nice and thick.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No, there wasn't any staff around near the clothing section.

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes, it fitted very well. She’s a slim girl and the adjustable waistband is a godsend.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy again?

The trousers wash very well and keep their colour. I’ve previously bought trousers from M&S and the hem went shortly after

Yes I would certainly buy again if they actually have it in stock in store.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

Not everything, no - would usually buy at least 5 polo shirts, three pairs of trousers, couple of cardigans, couple of summer dresses, plus shoes/socks etc. So probably about £50 or more (you know, I've never actually added it up!). But got a couple of dresses, one pair of trousers and two polo shirts so that's a good base.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed? No, pretty poor range really. Couldn't get the size I wanted in skirts or pinafores and only one pair of trousers, one pack of two summer dresses and one twin pack of polo shirts available in her size. No cardigans at all in her school colours - have bought them there previously (it's very nearby).
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
Hoping they might last the year, they seem very good.
  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No store staff around or I might have asked if they had more sizes/colours available.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
The trousers are too long but she's got quite short legs - I think she may well grow into them over the summer. The polo shirts and the dresses are excellent and really comfortable.
  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
It seems pretty good - I'd definitely go for the summer dresses and in fact I'd buy everything if they had it in stock as it's so easy to get it while doing the shopping. Was pretty pissed off that only the boys trousers have reinforced knees though.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

No because there was hardly any stock in my nearest store.

I would normally spend around £40-£50 per child for full uniform (inc pe kit , shoes etc).

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

There was hardly any stock. I couldn't find anything except shoes.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

They should last well, perhaps half a school year.

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

No didn't talk to staff

  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes they fit well, fit of shoes is true to size.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

It's hard to compare because I could only find shoes. However they do seem to be on the same level as previous purchases from supermarkets.

I probably wouldn't buy from Tesco again as I like to get everything in one go. I couldn't do that because of the severe lack of stock.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?
I got two trousers and two shirts for £17 I would need another packet of shirts jumpers shoes and socks so would be spending about another 45 pounds at least for the whole uniform
  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?
There was not much in my son's size left in store and no long sleeved shirts at all for boys. I got the trousers and short sleeve summer shirts for now.
  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I hope that the trousers last as they feel and look quite good quality. The shirts I will need long sleeve for September unless the weather is still mild

There were no staff around to ask you just had to rummage through to find the sizes

My son liked the slim fit trousers and they looked and fitted nicely.the adjustable waist is good as he is slim.the shirts were nice and white and stayed like that after washing. He wore them happily.

  • Could you get everything you needed for £20? How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I managed to buy 2x polo shirts, 2x skirts 1x shirt.. I wasn’t expecting to buy everything as I’m normally £50 - £80 for uniforms as I buy extra just in case.

  • Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific
size items you needed?

Well not a big range in my local store but I did get all the sizes I needed, which is very much a bonus because I’m normally left searching for the right size for my little ones.

  • Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

Well I thought the quality was a lot better than last year! I’m hoping it will last until end of school term. (End of the year )

  • Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
Yes I spoke to one of the staff as I was looking for the sizes needed, she was really helpful and she stated the difference on this years uniforms.
  • Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

Yes it fitted perfectly, my little one loved it and said it was really comfortable on.

  • How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

Overall I was very happy with quality & prices this year, my daughter was happy with her uniform and sizes fitted her perfectly! I would say the quality was same as Asda & Aldi’s.. I was very impressed with the range this year as normally they haven’t got that much range in store. Yes I would definitely buy again.

Could you get everything you needed for £20?
No. I need five sets of shirts and trousers for each child as there's no time to wash and iron during the school week.

How much would you normally spend on the ‘back-to-school’ shop for one child?

I honestly don't know. I don't pay attention to be honest, just buy what I need. It probably runs to about £350 per child, because they are at a private school where they need various kit with the school emblem on.

Was there a good range available in store? Could you get the specific size items you needed?

As always, there seemed to be far more in terms of choice and stock quantity for girls uniform. There was only one pack of shirts left in the correct size though.

Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?

I expect they won't need replacing until my son outgrows them.

Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?

I did try to find a staff member to see if they had any more shirts in that size, but there was no one at all around.

Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?

It did fit well. My son is tall and slim, so we are used to hoisting him in with the adjustable waist buttons, but Tesco trousers seemed slim enough cut to not make him look drowned in fabric.

How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?

I think the quality is on par with Sainsbury's and debenhams (who I usually buy uniform from), and is better than asda. My son wears grey trousers and jumper. The shade of grey in Tesco seems slightly darker than Sainsbury's, and much darker than asda (which looks cheap and shiny). I like the deeper grey, it feels smarter to me. So I will definitely stick with Tesco for trousers and jumpers from now on.

Could I get everything I needed for £20?
I managed to get some of the uniform, but my eveything and I wouldn’t expect to.

How much would normally expect on a ‘back-to-school’ shop on one child?

About £50-£60 including everything apart from shoes.

Was there a good range available in store?
Quite good, no shorts and no blue shirts.

Could you get the specific size items you needed?
No problems getting the size required.

Based on the quality of uniform pieces you’ve bought, when do you expect you’ll next have to replace these?
I’d expect them to last at least half a school year, if not the year. The polo shirts are of good quality and wash well. I am particularly impressed with the trousers. They seem made to last.

Did you talk to any store staff about the back to school range and were they helpful and knowledgeable about the range?
No

- Did the uniform fit well? Was it comfortable for your child to wear and play in?
The polo shirts were a little big, as were the trousers but my child is skinny as small for his age. Nevertheless, he was quite happy and comfortable in them.

How did the Tesco F&F uniform compare to other brands you’ve bought school uniform from in the past? Would you buy it again?
I normally buy from Asda and it compares favourably. The trousers seem more durable in F+F. My son prefers the F+F polo shirts because they are nearer the shade of the “official” school polo so I would probably make a trip to Tesco to repurchase even though Asda is nearer.
