This is the feedback thread for the MN testers who are trying out Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes this summer.

Sani Hands say “with increased public awareness of the importance of hand hygiene and the transfer of germs, people now more than ever want to minimise the risk of picking up germs and bacteria. Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes kill 99.99% of bacteria and germs in seconds, and keep hands protected for up to 6 hours. With 80% of communicable diseases transferred by touch, most bacteria on our hands is on the fingertips and under our nails. Sani Hands anti-bacterial wipes are proven to be the most effective and hygienic alternative to soap and water.

They are perfect for busy days with the children, and are also popular with commuters, holiday makers and office workers. The unique textured surface improves dirt removal while the added moisturisers make them gentle on your hands.”

Testers were sent a pack of Sani Hands Antibacterial Hand Wipes, each handy sized pack containing 12 wipes. The RRP is £1.20.

  1. I usually use gel and keep it in the car. These were obviously different by having a neater pack with it being less likely to spill

  2. 2 adults and 2 children (4and 2) tested the wipes

3)I wasn't sure about the texture. It reminded me of a house cleaning product i have used in the past (I can't put my finger on what one!). I thought they were a little rough for the children but it worked for proper muck and grime

4)fragrance was fine - maybe cucumber?

  1. after feel was fine. You were not waiting for your hands to dry like a gel

6)the pack was neat for carrying around but i did feel guilty about creating yet more landfill

7)we used the wipes on a family day out before we had a picnic

  1. I am torn as to whether i would recommend it. A pack of gel will last longer and is ultimately cheaper and a bit less wasteful. However, I can see that for trying to clean (as opposed to just disinfect) this would work well

1.do you currently use anti bac gels and wipes?
Yes I usually carry gel on me and sometimes put a squirt of gel on a baby wipes if hands are grubby.

  1. Which members of family tested the wipes?
Myself along with my DD2.
  1. What did you think of the texture of the product?
I like the two sides as the textured side removes dirt and DD2 thought it was tickly.
  1. What did you think of the fragrance?
I usually use bubblegum gel which I love the smell of, so these seemed a little bit dull in comparison.
  1. What did you think of the after feel?
My hands felt really good after use. I have very dry hands and using these instead of the gel has helped immensely.
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
The packet fits in your bag easily, and I think the blue was fine.
  1. Where did you use them?
Supermarket for trolley handle and seat as my DD loves to eat it. After going to the park and soft play.
  1. Would you recommend this product?
Yes I would. I like the fact they keep your hands clean for a while after use, and it doesn't dry your hands out like gel, and removes grime from the kids hands. I really like them and would continue to buy.

  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?

I often keep a little bottle of hand sanitizer and also carry baby wipes when out with kids.

  • Which members of the family tested the wipes?

Myself, husband and two kids aged 4 and 6.

  • What did you think of the texture of the product?

I loved it, the bumpiness felt nice to touch and like it might physically lift dirt particles too.

  • What did think about the fragrance?

I actually did not notice it, which was a big plus as hand sanitizer a usually have a very alcoholic smell. I was also desperate for a baby wipe to wipe my son's chocolatey face and as I did not have any, used the Sani Hands wipe. The fact that it didn't have a strong alcoholic smell made me more reassured that it wouldn't irritate his skin. It didn't irritate it at all, which is quite impressive.

  • What did you think about the after feel?

Fine, a little sticky initially, but fine.

  • What did you think of the packaging?

Fine, perfectly serviceable

  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?

It was a Godsend as we found ourselves at Notting Hill Children's Carnival using the most disgusting portaloos! There were no sinks to was hands or toilet paper so I was so grateful to have these on me. Whole family used them!

  • Would you recommend this product?

Definitely, yes. At 10p per wipe, they are not cheap, but they were so useful!

StandUnderMyUmbrella · 29/08/2017 18:28
  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?

I use gels occasionally and i find these so much better in comparison. As i always find the gels so slimy so i like these better as they dont leave that residue behind.

  • Which members of the family tested the wipes?

Myself and my 12 year old daughter.

  • What did you think of the texture of the product?

I loved that one side was smooth and the other side was slightly rough. I felt like they were exfoliating my hands and getting all the dirt off properly.

  • What did think about the fragrance?

I liked it. It wasnt overpowering or weak.

  • What did you think about the after feel?

I feel like my hands were clean instead of being limy or damp.

  • What did you think of the packaging?

The packaging was suitable for my handbag or for leaving in the car. Great size.

  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?

We used them in the home mainly/

  • Would you recommend this product?

I definitely would. They are a great alternative than the gel. Guaranteed no leaks unlike the gel, where i have had leaks in my bag! They made my hands feel super clean, loved them!

PooPooOfferson · 29/08/2017 18:35
  1. Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?
I usually carry wipes and find the small Sani Hands packet convenient to carry. The smell (aloe vera?) is surprisingly pleasant. The best feature is the rough surface which is great for a thorough hand-clean.
  1. Which members of the family tested the wipes?
My 5yo and myself.
  1. What did you think of the texture of the product?
Happy with the texture on both sides. Particularly useful having a textured side to scrub palms.
  1. What did think about the fragrance?
Unexpectedly fresh and clean smelling.
  1. What did you think about the after feel?
Pleased that they didn't dry out my hands.
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
The packaging is rather clinical and doesn't complement the smell. I was surprised that the product wasn't more abrasive and didn't dry out our hands. Happy that they resealed so well.
  1. Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
In the park before eating; after using public toilets which had no soap.
  1. Would you recommend this product?
I would to someone who was choosing between Sani Hands and a similar sized and priced product.

  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?

I don't tend to use anti bacterial gels because I have excema on my hands and it makes it sting. These wipes didn't make my hands sting at all.

  • Which members of the family tested the wipes?

Me, my Dp and my 2 children.

  • What did you think of the texture of the product?

I liked the texture of them, it made it easy to get dirt off Dd's hands before a picnic.

  • What did think about the fragrance?

I liked the fragrance it wasn't too over powering or chemically.

  • What did you think about the after feel?

The after feel was good, no stickiness or residue.

  • What did you think of the packaging?

I liked the little packet, so easy to chick in my bag.

  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?

At a picnic after the children had been playing in the park.

  • Would you recommend this product?

Yes o would I thought they were great.

  1. Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
we used the wipes when we went out for the day
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
the packaging was nice, small and sealed well.
  1. What about the fragrance? And texture of the wipe? And size?
the smell was nice, clean but not not too clinical. the texture was odd, my daughter didnt like the rough side but was ok with the smooth side. The size was ideal.
  1. Do you think you’d you buy them again?
i would buy them again but would look for special offers!

the pack was good for going out and about. We do enjoy going to farms or feeding squirrels these are ideal to use after that.

dannydog1 · 29/08/2017 19:49

I was pleased to be selected to try these as I currently use and keep an antibacterial hand gel in my bag when out. I preferred these hand wipes as they didn't leave a sticky feel after usage and I also found the textured surface more useful for cleaning dirt off. I tested the wipes on myself and my eighteen month old on a trip to the Zoo. Although I don't believe they are a substitute for conventional hand washing they are great on an outdoor trip like this where toddlers are constantly touching things- e.g. the toilet door after having just washed hands! They left a nice fragrance. The packaging gave all the key information clearly but perhaps could be more eye catching for on the shop shelves.
I would use these again in preference to gels or baby wipes.

EmLH · 29/08/2017 19:50
  1. Yes, mainly use the strawberry laces ones by Carex Complete as the smell is lovely.
  2. Me and my 7yo DD tested them.
  3. DD commented that she really liked the texture as the roughness meant that the dirt was exfoliated away. We had muddy hands from dog walking and they did seem to clean more effectively.
  4. DD liked it and said they smelled quite lemony. I thought they were pleasant but not as nice as the strawberry ones. They smell a bit more chemical, as if they're more astringent and not as gentle.
  5. The after feel was fine, they didn't sting or feel sticky.
  6. I'm not keen really. It makes them look more chemical and like cleaning wipes than ones that are kind to your hands.
  7. On a dog walk, to wipe away mud and dog lick.
  8. No, I wouldn't. I liked the exfoliating aspect but I prefer our usual brand because of the smell. DD said she would recommend them, however!

Thanks for the trial, always handy to have some in my bag.

allybird1 · 29/08/2017 19:58
  1. So you currently use antibacterial wipes or gels.
Yes. As a scientist I am very aware of hand hygiene
  1. Which members of the family tested the wipes
All members, husband and I as well as three children.
  1. What do you think of the texture of the product.
Excellent. Definitely a new product that works. Very well thought through.
  1. What did you think about the fragrance.
Nice fragrance. Not to strong or clinical. Just right. I love aloe vera. They had a refreshing smell.
  1. What did you think about the after feel.
Great. Not sticky. Dried quickly but without strong solvent smell or over drying of hands. The vitamin e in the ingredients is a good addition. You can really feel it working.
  1. What did you think of the packaging.
Good. Robust packet but easily opened. Didn't rip and then dry out contents like some wipes. Handy small pack.
  1. Where did you use the sani hands.
We totally maxed them out. Thete wasnt anywhere we went thst they didnt come! We gave them the ultimate tests as we all went to the big feastival. They were excellent for the kids as the porta loos were the saviour of the weekend. I loved the rough texture one side and smooth other side. Ingenious. We also went to the beach and they were great for getting all the sand off...my husband hates sand. He thought they were amazing. We went on lots of days out to the zoo and national trust.
  1. Would you recommend this product. Absolutely. They were a godsend as you can't stop kids touching things they shouldn't so I felt more relaxed knowing I had them. I would recommend them to everyone.
Thanks so much for letting me product test these fabulous new wipes.

  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different? Yes. I use gel but it's very wet and messy so this is much better
  • Which members of the family tested the wipes? Me and my daughter
  • What did you think of the texture of the product? I like that it's different from a baby wipe texture
  • What did think about the fragrance? Clean but not too over powering
  • What did you think about the after feel? Not sticky or too wet
  • What did you think of the packaging? Nice and simple
  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes? After school snacking in the car
  • Would you recommend this product? Yes
sarahsusannah · 29/08/2017 20:28
  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?
Don't like hand gels much as I find them very messy. I use either Tesco's own brand wipes (Pro Formula) or else Carex. These were similar in size and pack size, more expensive, better seal on pack than Tesco's. Main difference however is the rough side to the wipes.
  • Which members of the family tested the wipes?
Me, my husband and my 13-year-old son. All very fussy about hand hygiene!
  • What did you think of the texture of the product?
Both my son and my husband protested that the wipes were 'really rough', and I must say that if my son had been younger I wouldn't have been happy to wipe his face clean with the rough side of the wipe. They would be useful if trying to clean extremely dirty hands but not right for just a freshen-up. (Other side of wipe OK though.)
  • What did think about the fragrance?
Pleasant, discreet scent (made me think of melon.) Not too overpowering - important if eating after use.
  • What did you think about the after feel?
Not sticky or greasy and didn't make the hands feel dry - very acceptable.
  • What did you think of the packaging?
I thought it was rather clinical - the sort of thing I would expect to find in a first aid kit or to see a district nurse using. The other brands I mentioned are more 'cosmetic' in appearance.
  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
In the car before eating on a journey; on the train after using train loos (urgh) and not being able to wash hands properly.
  • Would you recommend this product?
Sorry but I don't think I would. The very rough texture of the wipes puts me off - I would buy again only if the other brands I mentioned were unavailable. Thanks though for the opportunity to try them.
Time4adrink · 29/08/2017 20:28
  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?
Normally I use hand gel so this was different. Lighter to carry around.
  • Which members of the family tested the wipes?
Me and two DCs
  • What did you think of the texture of the product?
I really didn't like the roughness of the textured side at all, although the kids weren't bothered by it.
  • What did think about the fragrance?
Pleasant and not overpowering, so ok for DS
  • What did you think about the after feel?
Light
  • What did you think of the packaging?
Easy to carry, light, easy to find in handbag, good stickiness on the reseal
  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
At the beach before our picnic lunch and in the car.
  • Would you recommend this product?
Yes, although I might not use on myself due to the rough texture. But good value for money and convenient.
LyndaLaHughes · 29/08/2017 20:30
  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?

Yes we do. I found the wipes much easier to use and more convenient to carry.

- Which members of the family tested the wipes?

Myself and my three young children.

- What did you think of the texture of the product?

I liked it- the rough side was cleverly designed to remove dirt and give a thorough clean. A clever idea! The smooth side felt very soft and gentle and left hands feeling nice. A much better feeling than after hand gels.

- What did think about the fragrance?

Pleasant- not too overwhelming but fresh and clean.

- What did you think about the after feel?

Left hands feeling soft, fresh and clean. Loved the complete lack of stickiness or residue.

- What did you think of the packaging?

Packaging was very attractive and bright whilst conveying a message of effectiveness and usefulness.

- Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?

We used them out and about whilst away over the bank holiday weekend.

- Would you recommend this product?

Yes I would. My children definitely preferred it to hand gel and my oldest (aged 6) asked for her own packet to use as she liked them so much.

Thank you for letting us test and we will be buying again.

WowOoo · 29/08/2017 21:09

Thanks for letting us test this product.

I don't currently use anti bac hand wipes, but have used gel. I also sometimes need to use gel at work but would much rather use these.

My children and I tested the wipes.

I loved the texture. The slightly rough bits felt like they were actually scrubbing dirt away. I saw this on my son's mucky hands.

It was a really fresh and pleasant fragrance. Not too strong like I'd imagined it would be.

They felt nice afterwards. I thought there might be a slimy feel like after using anti bac gel, but there was none of that. My hands felt clean and dried quickly.

Pretty basic packaging - that's a compliment. Simple colours and logo.

We used the wipes whilst travelling around on a city break. They were perfect because we wanted to eat a picnic after being on public transport. No soap in a public toilet either - again they were useful for both my kids and I.

I'd recommend them as they come in a handy size - far better than bulky baby wipes. I felt confident that my hands were cleaner after using them as the dirt comes off and so I prefer them to a gel that stys on your hands and leaves them feeling sticky and (for me) still dirty.

kezza1979 · 29/08/2017 21:55
  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?
As a mum of twins (4 years old) I always carry baby wipes and anti bacterial gel in my hand bag. This means a minimum of two products and usually a bulky baby wipe pack. These do both jobs and come in a really handy size. I wouldn't use them all the time though because it would work out more expensive in the long run
  • Which members of the family tested the wipes? I tried them for myself and the twins. On the first run we took them to box hill. Little man got very mucky and the rippled texture really helped get all the mud off. Over the bank holiday we were in a family members garden when little lady fell and cut her knee. Its of dirt a bit of blood and lots of tears. She let me use my magic wipe which didn't seem to add to her discomfort. All the dirt was easily removed and I could be assured that the germs were also gone.
  • What did you think of the texture of the product? Love it, gentle yet aids cleansing. Works very well.
  • What did think about the fragrance? Light fresh and inoffensive.
  • What did you think about the after feel? Clean and fresh and it didn't dry my skin out which some of the gels tend to do
  • What did you think of the packaging? Excellent compact andceasy to use
  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes? See above~ a must have for outdoors adventures
  • Would you recommend this product? Absolutely 😄

TESTER

  1. Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
At a day out to the park involving lots of ice cream and sand pits!
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
Very compact - would easily fit into a handbag or coat pocket. Bright packaging so easy to find in my Mary Poppins changing bag! Resealable flap worked very well.
  1. What about the fragrance? And texture of the wipe? And size?
The fragrance was pleasant, a bit like cucumber, but not overpowering and certainly not a chemical smell. The texture of the wipe felt odd at first but the bumpiness is not harsh. The size was adequate to clean one person's hands.
  1. Do you think you’d you buy them again?
Definitely. They are useful and appear to be reasonably priced.
  1. What sort of situations do you think the handy sized pack was handy for?
Travelling and days out. Picnics. I'd also probably keep them in my changing bag - the textured surface was also good for wiping down high chairs which would be great when out and about generally.
  1. Would you recommend them to other parents?
Yes. They were very convenient.

  1. Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
I used them over the weekend when we went out for a few family day trips to make the most of the bank holiday weekend, including the seaside.
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
The wipes come in a small handy sized package that do not take up too much room and fit nicely in your bag or jacket pocket.
  1. What about the fragrance? And texture of the wipe? And size?
The frangrance is nice and refreshing yet not too overpowering, doesn't smell chemically or anything. I like that the rough texture is only on one side, so you can still use the soft side of the wipe for softer areas of skin or little ones hands. The wipes are significant enough in size too thoroughly clean hands.
  1. Do you think you’d you buy them again?
Yes I think I would purchase again, the texture is different from any other wipe I have used before
  1. What sort of situations do you think the handy sized pack was handy for?
The pack is handy for out and about with the little ones, perfect for disinfecting hands as well as any tables/high chairs if we go somewhere to eat.
  1. Would you recommend them to other parents?
Yes certainly.

  1. Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
Received on Friday and we used it on the weekend when out and about, having some snacks on the go whilst out and we needed to quick wipe-clean of hands before and after eating. We also used to feel freshened up after playing about in the park. And after shopping trip feeling greasy hands due to touching all over the place.
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
Small, compact, handy and practical.
  1. What about the fragrance? And texture of the wipe? And size?
Fragrance is fine, not unpleasant and not too strong. Texture: I liked the bumpy texture more than my child. She wanted to have it all smooth, in her words "cos she wanted to fold it and wipe her face too and it was not smooth" whereas I really liked the texture because i felt bumpy texture removed the greasy feeling on my hands which I did have, before using the wipes. I definitely prefer bumpy texture to smooth texture. It feels more effective in cleaning the dirt and grease. Having said that my child still used it without complaints. Size is perfect.
  1. Do you think you’d you buy them again?
Yes. Definitely.
  1. What sort of situations do you think the handy sized pack was handy for?!
Daily commute, picnics, out and about doing anything really. In the cinema, shopping trip, cafe, before and after ice-cream, on the beach etc. Handy for any given occasion. When my child goes on school trips, hand wipe is an essential part, she uses wipes regularly. I use for freshening up for travelling on the London underground to/from work as handles on the underground tubes are so greasy and unhygienic, that I have to, have to use hand wipes. I find the bumpy texture is more effective than smooth ones.
  1. Would you recommend them to other parents?
Yes, absolutely.
ILikeThatSong123 · 29/08/2017 23:29

Further to my entry above, the questionnaire we received actually asked which members of the family used it: myself and dd (12 yo) used it.

We regularly use antibacterial hand wipes. I always prefer the wipes to antibacterial hand gels as i like the rubbing action to physically remove the dirt rather than gels evaporating and feeling stickier afterwards. For that reason we buy wipes (not gels much) and now for that reason again, I preferred textured wipes to smooth ones.

Bonkerz · 30/08/2017 00:04
  • Do you currently use antibacterial hand wipes or gels? If yes, how were these different?

Currently use gels when out and about. Usually we have to wipe kids hands with wet wipes before the gel use especially if at the park. These wipes were fab and the rough side was brilliantly at cleaning grubby mitts.

  • Which members of the family tested the wipes? I am a childminder so used them of 5 children aged 2-6 whilst on a trip to the park.
  • What did you think of the texture of the product?
Loved the bumpy side. Perfect for muddy hands.
  • What did think about the fragrance?
They smelt lovely. Clean not chemically.
  • What did you think about the after feel?
My hands felt soft and dry.
  • What did you think of the packaging?
Great small pack. Convenient. May need to be sold in bulk packs though.
  • Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
Just before snack time at a park with 5 children!!
  • Would you recommend this product? Defiantly as it's more convenient than hand gel and better than wet wipes for hands.

  1. Where did you use the Sani Hands Anti-bacterial Hand Wipes?
We Used them on a camping trip during the bank holiday weekend.
  1. What did you think of the packaging?
The Packaging looked attractive and it was clear what the product was. It would be good if the packaging was recyclable.
  1. What about the fragrance? And texture of the wipe? And size?
I liked the fragrance of the wipes. The texture was a bit unusual but that didn't bother me. The size was fine and the wipes didn't break when using them, which is important.
  1. Do you think you’d you buy them again?
No upon reflection I wouldn't. I didn't realise how bad they are for the environment until I started using them and realised they can't be recycled.
  1. What sort of situations do you think the handy sized pack was handy for?!
Camping; nappy changes out and about; picnics.
  1. Would you recommend them to other parents?
Probably not due to the impact on the environment - other than possibly for occasional use.
