Birds Eye have teamed up with Mumsnet, to find 250 testers for their 20-minute meals. Selected testers were given a Birds Eye pack with a £5 Birds Eye voucher and a £10 supermarket voucher, so that they could cook and taste the 20-minute meals for themselves.

Here’s what Birds Eye have said: ‘Tea time can be a stressful part of the day and coming up with nutritious and tasty meals the kids will enjoy is not easy.

That’s why Birds Eye has teamed up with Toby and Roo, Honest Mum, Not Another Mummy Blog and London Dad to create a series of delicious and wholesome meals for the family to enjoy. And guess what, they genuinely only take 20-minutes to prep, cook and serve!

Birds Eye frozen chicken is always made with 100% chicken breast, barn-reared chickens, and no artificial colours, flavours and preservatives.’

'Enjoyed Birds Eye Chicken? Why not leave us a product review here.'

4. Yes although free range would be better.
  1. Yes I will definitely buy for the family again

  1. Do you think birds eye chicken is good value?
Yes ...I have to buy the largest packs as my eldest son could eat his own body weight in chicken dippers :)

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes it was delicious.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Yes, it was on offer aswell when I bought it.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes it does, my son does a lot of sport so protein is essential for him.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes, that makes me want to buy it. I only buy eggs from a local farm where the chickens are free range so it's important to me.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Yes, my son loved the crispy chicken as did we although we loved the chargrilled chicken too.

sarahsnail · 18/05/2017 18:37

1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken? Yes, myself and my children enjoyed the taste of the chicken.

2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value? I must admit I can get fresh products from the butchers at a cheaper price, however considering that this is a meal already made and prepared I feel that the price is a fair price in comparison to other products.

3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? 100% YES. prior to this product test I would have walked past the Birds Eye range in the supermarket and not even considered making a purchase. That was because I was unaware that the chicken is made with 100% chicken breast and with no added preservatives, it certainly becomes much more appealing for a parent once you know this information.

4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? Yes it makes me think differently towards the Birds eye brand, I feel like it is a brand which is responsible and is aimed at families.

5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? Yes, in fact the little ones have already requested chicken dippers for tea tomorrow night :-)

NicHay · 18/05/2017 18:45

1 yes we all liked the taste

2 yes but more so when offers are on

3 yes it is good to know

  1. Yes although free range would be even better

5 yes and we might try doing other meals. We tried the crispy chicken in bun which was Popular in our house. Taco boats were also good . Quick ideas and can be healthy if served with salad. I didn 't like the sound of katsu don.

lucyloves · 18/05/2017 18:54
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

We tried the crispy chicken fillets and made the posh chicken burger recipe with them! They were super easy and quick to cook! My son loved them, he even ate the greenery! Big hit here!

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Yes, they were very good value.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes, it's good to know there are no nasties added!

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

I'd prefer it if the chickens could be free range and roam around outside. Being barn reared is the minimum I'd expect.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Yes, I think they'll be a handy standby to have in the freezer!

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

We tried 3 recipes, the tacos, burger and chicken pittas. My favourite was the pittas, DS aged 9 preferred the burger

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

It's something I buy from time to time, usually when on offer. Would need to try other brands of similar products to determine if additional cost is justified.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Unnecessary additives yes, but usually try to buy meat products from local farm shop due to provenance and animal welfare.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Animal welfare is important.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?

Yes for a quick meal I often use chicken dippers / strips as a burrito filling.

sharond101 · 18/05/2017 21:40
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken? We liked chicken dippers and chicken quarter pounders but were not keen on chicken burgers which tasted really processed.
  2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value? Yes and its often on special offer.
  3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future? It does as I try to serve really healthy meals to my family.
  4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? Yes animal welfare is important to me.
  5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? I would and we have though of some tasty recipes to try with the dippers.
annarack99 · 18/05/2017 21:43
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes, it was better than I had expected, but I wasn't keen on the texture.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Very cheap but not necessarily good "value" in my eyes.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
The 100% chicken breast claim is good, and pleased that there are no nasties. The protein packed claim doesn't mean much, chicken is naturally a good source of protein.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes, but would prefer free range or organic to barn reared.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Maybe occasionally, but can't imagine buying it regularly, would prefer to buy fresh natural chicken even if more expensive or takes longer to prepare.
Pipmilburn · 18/05/2017 21:47
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes, it was delicious, my two year old scoffed the lot!!
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, I think it is affordable for most families.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

I didn't realise that it was made with 100% chicken breast until taking part in the product testing. It has changed my opinion of Birds Eye completely and we will definitely be buying the chicken dippers again.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

To be honest this is something I have never really thought about when buying a chicken or chicken products.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes most definitely! I got the whole family involved in the preparation and my daughter really enjoyed filling the taco boats. Here is a little video of our antics!

I was already aware of this but, knowing now how versatile the products can be, will be tempted to buy Birds Eye products more often

4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
I don't always look at the ethics behind food production but it is nice to know.

5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Definitely, its very handy to have in the freezer and have been looking at different adaptations of the recipe cards.

Lariflete · 18/05/2017 21:57

1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
I didn't eat it because I can't eat gluten but the kids loved it. I made them when the DC had friends over and they all enjoyed it. The friends didn't eat as much of the vegetables as I would have liked but they certainly polished off the dippers.

2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes, as a treat.

3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes, it's great that something treat-like is actually not terrible for them!

4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It's nice to know!

5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes, but I do prefer making things from scratch where possible. I'll definitely be using them when we have friends for tea / I don't want to cook.

1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes my 5 kids really enjoyed it and unusually ate every bit of chicken in the tacos we made, it looked and tasted 100% real chicken and not processed or "bulked up" with rubbish.

2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
Yes it tastes delicious, more expensive than what it actually costs !

3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes you can tell when eating it that it is all chicken with no "bulking up" ingredients added and the protein is great to keep the family healthy

4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes I'd not even think of buying it if I thought the chickens were kept in cages

5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Definitely !! My 5 kids are fussy eaters and most meals are left half eaten but they really enjoyed the chicken tacos, they asked for more of the chicken when they had finished, they enjoyed it so much that they wanted it everyday afterwards so we tried all the recipes and now when we go shopping the oldest 3 boys always run to the freezer and choose the birds eye chicken dippers, crispy chicken breasts and chicken fingers for themselves !! Now having a lot more teatime ideas using Birdseye chicken makes meal times less stressful for me too !! Grin

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes it was delicious and the recipes were great. Although it still didn't convince my breaded chicken hating daughter.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
I do. In my head it's an expensive brand, but actually when we bought them I was really surprised at the price. I would prefer to buy on offer though as we're on a tight budget and I don't think you get that many in a pack in comparison to other brands, although if it's due to quality then I understand why.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes it does. I had assumed that it was all pumped full of rubbish so was pleasantly surprised to find that this is not the case. Weirdly I don't look at the packaging so think maybe it needs more advertising in this area.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It does to some degree, I think there's a big culture to think that they're battery chickens. I guess that people (or me!) see instant food and assume that the cheapest chicken has been used. However I think it would be better if you were using free range as I think it would attract more people, although if it were to drive the price up then I expect a market share loss.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes, it's going to be my first port of call for quick food now. Although I still won't be using it on a regular basis as I try to cook from scratch.
lottietiger · 19/05/2017 10:17

Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
yes we did it was very tasty

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
They are pretty good value for money especially if you get them on an offer. They are not huge for my husband but a good size for my son.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes definitely. The texture wasn't of a chicken breast, that's probably why my son liked them, but it was good to know that it was 100% chicken. I was definitely pleased to see there were no artificial additives or preservatives.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product? Yes it does make me feel better about buying Birds Eye products.
  2. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? Yes I would, it was easy and quick. I made the greek pittas and we all found the wholemeal ones dry but would do the recipe again but with wraps instead of pittas.
Thanks for the opportunity because I wouldn't have brought frozen chicken otherwise and we were pleasantly surprised.
Clarepurcell2004 · 19/05/2017 10:39
  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes definitely especially the crispy chicken
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value? When on offer yes
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
It's definitely important to me that I'm not feeding my family horrible junk so this is definitely key in deciding on food choices
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes absolutely - no animals deserve to be treated like that and I think the practice should be completely wiped out
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again? At the right price yes, loved the recipe cards thinking of then in a different way rat her than just eating them with chips or rice. Loved the pitta's will try with wraps next.
Reubymum · 19/05/2017 10:45

Thank you for the fun opportunity of making these recipes. My boys all loved reviewing my meals!!
1.Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?

Yes we did, that was the key surprise for my hubby and the grandparents. I think they thought it would taste cheap or false but they didn't.

  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?

Yes, it seems they are on offer in a lit of places. Not sure how good value at full price as I agree with others the size it quite small.

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?

Yes the fact it is 100% chicken with no added extra definitely sells it to us.

  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?

Yes, obviously we would prefer organic free ranged but at the cost of these that wouldn't be an expected.

  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes I think we will, the suggestions recipes were really good as I rarely used this chicken as didn't think past chicken chips or a chicken salad. This open us up to more options. Needed as I seem to get stuck in a boring meal rutt!! The bun was tasty the tacos were different so will try that again. The Greek pitta was lovely, my husband liked the Katsu but my boys and I don't like eggs. This has got us thinking about new ideas (for us) liked wraps or pesto pasta dishes with the chargrilled option.
BigBugs · 19/05/2017 10:49

Yes both myself an DC enjoyed the chicken. We made the taco recipie

  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Yes I think it would make me more likely to buy it in the future and feel less guilty about making a quick tea for the DC
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
Yes most definitely!
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes we really enjoyed this product test and will definitely try the other recipies on the card

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes, I used the fillets in the burger recipe and it went down very well with my children.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
The fillets were a bit smaller than I was expecting but this was reflected in the price. It definitely worked out as a good value meal.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Definitely, it is good to know that Birds Eye are using 100% chicken breast and you can tell that the processing has been kept to a minimum.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
I didn't know this before and it isn't something I have noticed on the packaging. However it does reassure me and it has improved my attitude towards Birds Eye.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes and I am looking forward to trying out the Katsu Don recipe next. It is good to introduce a wide variety of tastes to children and having frozen chicken helps during busy weekdays.

  1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
I did and so did my family.
  1. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
I do think its good value for money we got 2 packs with 4 pieces of crispy chicken in each pack with our £5 voucher.
  1. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
It does make me more likely to buy it as I was really surprised as I had always thought frozen chicken products were made with poor quality meat.
  1. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It does although it would be nice if they were free ranged but barn reared is better than caged.
  1. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
I would as there are so many different products, I hadn't realised quite how many. We tried the crispy chicken and had it in wraps and my family loved it.
J3nnifer · 19/05/2017 15:54
  1. Yes, definitely better than I thought it would be. Chargrills went down well!
  2. I thought it was good value and would imagine that it would be regularly on offer, making it better value for money.
  3. Yes, I'd be worried that frozen chicken was overly processed and poor quality. We were pleasantly surprised and I would consider it again for a quick and easy dinner.
  4. Agree with other comments that this could be clearer on the packaging, but it makes me more likely to consider it over other similar products even if not free range.
  5. Yes. Thanks for the recipes - inspiration for some easy dinners and the taco boats were popular at the end of a busy day.
beautifulsoup · 19/05/2017 16:05

1. Did you enjoy the taste of Birds Eye chicken?
Yes all of us really enjoyed it. It's not something we'd normally buy and I was pleasantly surprised at how nice it was

2. Do you think Birds Eye chicken is good value?
The product and the pack sizes are quite small for the price but they are comparable to similar products

3. Does knowing that Birds Eye chicken is made with 100% chicken breast, with no additives or preservatives - and that it’s packed with protein - make you more likely to purchase them in future?
Knowing it's 100% chicken breast was very reassuring and makes me much more likely to buy them. I did notice that there is quite a high water content though - it's the second ingredient in the chargrills and the dippers

4. Does knowing that all Birds Eye chickens are always barn-reared and never caged reassure you about the product?
It does but fully free range would be better!

5. Would you feed Birds Eye chicken to your family again?
Yes, I liked the idea that they can be used in different recipes, the tacos were a big hit as I could include something that everyone eats. Saying that I'll most likely only serve them with chips and peas as an alternative to fish fingers
