We’re looking for 70 Mumsnetters to test the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 Air Purifier (RRP £199.99).

Here’s what Fellowes have to say: “Studies indicate that indoor air can be up to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air. Combined with the fact that many people spend up to 90% of their time indoors, it starts to become clear why the quality of indoor air is so important. Environment Protection Agency

The Fellowes AeraMax™ Air Purifiers use a combination of the most effective filtration and cleaning methods as part of a 4-stage filtration process to remove 99.97% of airborne pollutants and particles down to 0.3 microns in size. This level of performance combined with a feature set and interface designed for any indoor environment, makes it the perfect clean air solution.”

If selected, you’ll need to test the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 Air Purifier for two weeks and give feedback by posting on a feedback thread as well as completing a short survey.

All those who give feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

If you’re interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

My mum has asthma and allergies and we have many animals. Today is the first time she's visited and not been sniffing and snuffling a couple of hours in. DS has been coughing a lot in the night but since we've had this he's stopped. It could be coincidence but all the same I'm very pleased with the purifier I've already recommended it to two people in RL! That said, it has made me realise how 'impure' our cat must be as it seems every time he's in the same room as the purifier it turns amber.

Mine is on the landing.
After another tester posted hers had fried the electrics I've only put it on while in the house.
Just now heard a loud snap and my smoke detector kicked in.
Quickly unplugged purifier.
I have zero sense of smell but dd17 has and after sniffing the rest of the house (my washer is going) came back to the purifier as being the source.
Very reluctant to plug it back in.

How do I go about sending it back?

FannyFifer · 23/01/2017 12:36

Your smoke detector went off? Is there smoke?

alibubbles · 23/01/2017 13:48

I put it in the sitting room and DH lit a fire, it went crazy red! I have come to the conclusion that I really need one in the most frequently used rooms, rather than keep taking it up and downstairs, but that would be cost prohibitive.

It really has made a difference to my post nasal drip/catarrh which is really a big plus for me.

Cons: It is noisy and the blue lights are too bright in a darkened room, they do disturb us and the children, so tend to face it the other way and out of sightline where possible.

I used to have an old Pifco that was pretty good, in DD's road facing room but the filters clogged quickly, so this is great and appears that the filters will last a while.

Any ideas on replacement filter prices?

VeganCow · 23/01/2017 19:24

On Amazon the hepa filters are about £25 and the carbon same price for 4

Officially apologising to my purifier ... my smoke detector back up battery caused the snap, detector started chirping this evening in utter frustration I got the old battery out to find it broken.

Dd says it could have been that smell she smelt ... couldn't see smoke which puzzled me but my detectors are very sensitive.

Will continue to only switch purifier on whilst in the house.

The replace carbon light has come one, I have replaced the filter, and the light will not go out. Have followed instructions(hold for 5 seconds) and tried several times and it is still lit up - anyone else got the same problem?

VeganCow · 17/04/2017 15:44

I managed to sort my problem re the carbon light in my previous message. I must say, the manufacturers are extremely helpful, am very impressed.

Just thought I'd add an update now the hayfever season is upon us. I'm very allergic to tree pollen, and have been keeping the purifier going in our bedroom overnight. It makes a noticeable difference, and I wake up much less wheezy and without the usual sore throat and streaming nose.

Floralnomad · 10/05/2017 13:08

Well we've enjoyed having this but it would now appear to be broken 🙁, just randomly turned itself off this morning .

Floralnomad · 11/05/2017 11:45

Update , dh has phoned Fellowes and they are going to send me a replacement machine , excellent customer service .
