We’re looking for 70 Mumsnetters to test the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 Air Purifier (RRP £199.99).

Here’s what Fellowes have to say: “Studies indicate that indoor air can be up to 5 times more polluted than outdoor air. Combined with the fact that many people spend up to 90% of their time indoors, it starts to become clear why the quality of indoor air is so important. Environment Protection Agency

The Fellowes AeraMax™ Air Purifiers use a combination of the most effective filtration and cleaning methods as part of a 4-stage filtration process to remove 99.97% of airborne pollutants and particles down to 0.3 microns in size. This level of performance combined with a feature set and interface designed for any indoor environment, makes it the perfect clean air solution.”

If selected, you’ll need to test the Fellowes AeraMax DX55 Air Purifier for two weeks and give feedback by posting on a feedback thread as well as completing a short survey.

All those who give feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 voucher.

If you’re interested in taking part, please sign up here.

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

That sounds bad, Mud.

I've switched ours on and it was amber but now blue, I'm convinced it was the presence of our very fluffy cat that made it amber. Can't believe that even my animals are dusty... It makes a strange high pitched 'electrical' noise. Does anyone else's do this?
Slightly afraid of exploding purifiers! It's in DS's room so looking forward to seeing if it makes any difference to his cough overnight.

SparePantsAndLego · 17/01/2017 19:52

Bar the 'electrical' noise I cannot believe how quiet it is.

Floralnomad · 17/01/2017 20:32

I'm very impressed with how quiet it is , we've got ours in the lounge at the moment and it's been on blue the whole time so we are going to stick it on the landing in a while .

Supermagicsmile · 17/01/2017 20:55

We are about to turn ours on. What do the colours mean? I read the leaflet about 5 hours ago and don't remember Blush

SparePantsAndLego · 17/01/2017 21:11

Red is bad, amber is middling and blue is good in terms of air quality.

LoudBatPerson · 17/01/2017 21:54

Our arrived today and so far I am very impressed. I was worried about noise but it is so very quiet, however it has only be on the lowest fan setting yet so will have to wait and see if it gets too much louder when it kicks in more.

Controls seem very easy and having had a look at replacement filters (which I expect won't need for a while) the pricing looks very reasonable, if the guidelines for changing are correct.

Will be playing with all the settings and moving it around to different parts of the house over the next couple of weeks.

I am really hoping this helps me and my sons asthma, particularly as mine is so out of control at the moment and I am very dust sensitive.

FannyFifer · 17/01/2017 21:56

Mines is up & running with no problems.
Kids are mostly enjoying farting beside it to get it to change colour, dirty wee sods.
Going to keep in bedroom overnight & hopefully help asthmatic DP.

greengoose · 17/01/2017 22:37

Ours is here. I'm going to plug it in after school run tomorrow, so I can get a chance to read instructions etc in peace! Really hoping it makes a difference!

FinnMcCool · 17/01/2017 22:51

I've got mine too! I'm very impressed with how quiet it is. For some reason I thought it might be droning on like air conditioning on holiday!
It does seem to blow out cold air, what my mother would call a draft, and her absolute avoidance of a draft at all costs is on my mind lol.

NoMudNoLotus · 17/01/2017 22:52

Ahh thankyou all for your lovely comments ours has definetly died !

tobecontinued2000 · 18/01/2017 00:52

Spare - do you mean a high pitched electrical noise? Mine has just started doing that.

I'm not bothered about the noise but wasn't sure if it's just mine that makes it.

So far so good. It picked up spray paint and deodorant when it kicked into action and the fan went up to 4.

My son took all his clothes off whilst standing in front of claiming the "wind" was so powerful that it blew them off.

No reaction from it so far from the dogs/guineapigs.

Very impressed so far although it's like an air conditioner at the same time, blows out cold air which will be very useful in the summer.

SparePantsAndLego · 18/01/2017 07:53

tobecontinued yes, a high pitched electrical noise.
I have looked online and someone on Amazon said this: "I called Fellowes support to enquire and was pleasantly surprised -- the lady on the phone knew exactly what it was. It is the PlasmaTRUE feature of the unit where it electrically charges the air to better collect particles, or something of the sort. It can be turned off: after powering on wait a few minutes for the unit to finish calibrating, then press the star/shuriken icon on the display panel (#7 in the manual) and hold for a few seconds until the indicator goes off. This solves the issue for me."

Moogdroog · 18/01/2017 16:06

Mine has arrived at last - slightly disappointed that the air in the room it's plugged in seems to be fine. Need to wait for the kids to get home and get them farting in it's vacinity. Beans for tea, I think!

SparePantsAndLego · 18/01/2017 21:13

Has anyone seen a feedback thread?

GooodMythicalMorning · 18/01/2017 22:07

Don't think there is one yet. Usually they email to say when there is.

NellVarnish · 18/01/2017 22:23

Mine arrived yesterday thank you! Put it in the bedroom last night on automatic - so quiet - although it kicked in during the night when it went to red and woke me up. Think one of the cats was investigating it Grin

Anyway I went back to sleep and didn't need my inhaler when I woke up - the air felt clearer if you know what I mean? So far, so good.

Sorry you've had probs NoMud, hope you get it sorted.

Burntbum · 19/01/2017 10:15

Mine's finally arrived! 😊

ThanksForAllTheFish · 19/01/2017 12:35

Mine just arrived half an hour ago. I missed the delivery on Monday so had rearranged for today. I've been having a play around with it. It's really quiet unless you turn the fan up to 3 or 4 then you can hear it but it's not too loud.

I've got a awful cold at the moment and coughing a lot at night so I'm hoping it helps with that. My indicator is on blue so far but I've had the windows opened all morning so I think that's helped. I'm just going to try it out in my bedroom now as that's the room that gets the damp and mold patches to see if it picks anything up.

NoMud did you take the plastic bag off the filter before you plugged it in?

TheNiffler · 19/01/2017 15:55

Mine's arrived!

I'm going to set it up in the basement, where we watch tv and relax mostly.

TenaciousOne · 19/01/2017 16:23

Mine just arrived today and I agree it disappointing my air quality isn't worse. Although not massively. It makes a high pitched squeaking currently but can't wait to try it out in DS' room.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 19/01/2017 17:07

Well I've had it on in my bedroom for a 2 hours now and the air quality is still on red. I'm hoping it cleans the air and goes back to blue before I need to go to bed tonight.

Supermagicsmile · 19/01/2017 17:29

Just had time to turn mine on. Mine is flashing with blue lights. It says it should do this for 4 mins. Do I need to press anything else?

Supermagicsmile · 19/01/2017 17:33

It's stopped flashing. Light is blue. Does that mean my living room is good? I want it for the bedrooms, maybe I should move it to the landing upstairs?
