This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who tested an item of school uniform from the Matalan Teflon Stain Resistant Range.

Here’s what Matalan say “Our Teflon stain resistant coating is designed to repel water and stains, restricting stains from absorbing into the fabric. We know kids will be kids and we want to help you keep them looking smart for school and make sure their school uniform lasts.”

Testers, please complete the feedback questions below but please feel free to add any other comments you may have. Please state which item of clothing you tested. Please also remember to complete the survey we sent you to be entered into the £300 Love2Shop voucher prize draw.

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Thanks, MNHQ .

Q1. Yes- I have seen it before but I wasn't aware of the stain resist range
Q2. I purchased a pair of charcoal coloured boys trousers. My boy said they were comfortable and they washed well and didn't need ironing. TBH with a charcoal grey item of clothing I'm not fussed if they are stain resistant or not. My main issue was that the trousers were very wide legged on my slim boy and I prefer to purchase slim leg trousers from M&S
Q3. The fit was not ideal- too baggy and flappy but the fabric and comfort were absolutely fine.
Q4. If the boys trousers came in slim leg style I would consider buying from matalan.
Q5. Maybe? Tbh I wouldn't recommend it- there are so many good uniform retailers.

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
I was vaguely aware of the uniform range but had no idea about the Teflon range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
Look good, feel nice quality, good fit for my 8 year old.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
Nice looking and DD1 was impressed, she much prefers trousers to everything else. The cut was nice and the material feels of nice quality. Plenty or room in the waitband too. Washed better than most uniforms we've tried such as Asda or Sainsburys, Asda shrank on the first wash and Sainsbury's don't take long to look washed out and feel a little rough

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Very likely, good price, good quality.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would. We have a local Sainsburys though so it easier for most to just nip in there to grab uniform bits, especially when they have their 25% off but for those willing to travel to the nearest city or order online, they're definitely worth a go due to the quality of the items.

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

Had bought school trousers from Matalan before as they do elasticated waistbands in larger sizes for my son with fine motor difficulties. Wasn't aware of the teflon range, not sure if this was new or just hadn't noticed before.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

Nice comfortable pair of shorts, wore and washed well.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

On par with usual purchases (from matalan, bhs and supermarket ranges). Comfortable fit, good style (cargo style shorts).

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Yes will definitely purchase again. There didn't seem to be as much choice as when I have previously been in but this might have been due to time of year (usually bulk buy in August for back to school).

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, good value, practical clothing.

Pigeonpea · 30/04/2016 19:34

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
I was unaware of Matalan's school uniforms
I was also unaware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
I loved the fact that the skirt had an adjustable waist
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
Fit - a lot better, due to adjustable waist
Wash - the same, however, I didn't use stain remover and stains did come out, so a BENEFIT
Comfort was better, as it fitted better

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Maybe, although there was a really limited range in our local Matalan - It's a good job I have a girl, as skirts were only available in the stain resistant range

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I'd be happy to recommend, alongside other stores
I'd comment on the adjustable waist and the range of stain resistant, easy wash, minimal iron etc garments they stock
I'd be mindful, as the range in our store was so small that sizes were limited, as was stock

lovealotbear · 30/04/2016 22:27

Q1. I was not aware before that Matalan sold school uniform.

Q2. My impression of the item I tested which were boys trousers were that they were of good quality.

Q3. They compared favourably to my normal purchase which tends to be Sainsburys. The style of trousers were fine and fit was good.

Q4. I would purchase again if the Shop had a decent range. The shop I visited had a fairly limited range of sizes especially for teenage boy, that I was testing.

Q5. Yes, I would recommend as the quality and fit are good.

Thanks for giving me the chance to test.

littlemonkeymum · 01/05/2016 07:18

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
I was aware that Matalan stocked school uniform but not this specific range
Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
I struggled to find something suitable in store as there wasn't much choice at all. I eventually found a pinafore dress but wasn't convinced my DD would like it but she actually does. I was quite impressed that it has washed well, no marks or stains after a few wears & washes now.
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
It washes well though it does need a quick iron before wearing, which I'm not used to doing with our usual uniform, which was the only negative for me. My DD likes wearing the dress as she finds the zip fastening useful when it's PE and feels comfortable and smart in it. The sizing seemed pretty accurate for my DD.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
If I was near a store I would definitely consider buying uniform from there, but I wouldn't go out of my way to make a special trip, especially as when I visited the store they didn't seem to have a lot of stock in.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, it has gone down well with my DD and still looks smart after quite a few wears now.

ArriettyC · 01/05/2016 09:50

I hadn't really thought about Matalan for buying school uniform before. I didn't know they did uniform. I didn't know anything about the Teflon range.
We bought a skirt with pleats and a kind of fake wrap over effect. It is really nice. My daughter loves the style.

We usually buy from Sainsburys just for convenience. But there was a good range in Matalan with a good price point. The skirt is comfortable and stylish and most importantly I haven't ironed it and it still looks great!

Yes, we would go to Matalan again I think.
I woudl recommend Matalan to friends as I was pleased with the experience.

billybear · 01/05/2016 19:20

1,was aware of Matalan school range but had never tried it before, but had not heard of Teflon finish great idea. 2 great impression washed well good fit liked waist on skirt you can adjust, kept pleats well, very impressed in quality.3 compared well if not better than asda and Tesco, so great result, liked style click and collect so if not got size in order and waited couple of days .4 yes I would buy the school uniform from Matalan after seeing the sizing and quality,5 yes I would recommend to friends and family .thank you for letting us trial the range was nicely surprised how good it was

ilovesprouts · 01/05/2016 20:10

bearcub1 · 02/05/2016 08:06

Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
I was aware that Matalan sells school uniform, however I have never bought it before. I didn't know about the stain resistant range.
Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
I was very pleased with the trousers my son tested, I even bought a pair of shorts from the range after testing the trousers.
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Pleasew refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
I was impressed with the school uniform, it washes well and didn't look like it needed ironing. The fit is good, and compares well with other school uniforms I have bought in the past. There was no complaints about the fit.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Very likely to go into Matalan for school uniform
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would. I think that the price and quality is equal to other brands I have bought. I will have to see if they last as long as others I have bought in the past.

Thank you for letting me try them

monkeyplastic · 02/05/2016 08:56

Q1. I was aware that matalan did school uniforms but not aware of the Teflon stain resistant range.
Q2. My overall impression was good, lots of choice. I normally struggle to find smaller sizes, but no problems this time.
Q3. Better than usual great style and bought some shorts. He seemed to enjoy wearing them and they pitted well.
Q4. Yes I would definitely purchase more uniform in the future
Q5. I would recommend to friends as good value
and lots of choice.

Loulou2kent · 02/05/2016 11:08

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

Not really, I do go to Matalan every couple of months, but I tend to stick to home wear stuff & baby clothes. I must admit it never really crossed my mind for school uniform.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

I picked grey boys shorts. They look fine & smart enough. I feel the material is a little scratchy but they do fit well. They have washed well & dried quickly. The price is good too.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

I must admit I do prefer my M&S school uniform, purely because it's lovely & soft & lasts the whole school year. The Matalan shorts did fit nicely & were a good length. They look smart enough but they do look cheaper than his other uniform. I think this may be to do with the Teflon coating. My son did find them comfortable, however they were rougher feeling than what he's used to & if having an eczema flare up than it may not help.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

I would probably by spares from Matalan. To be honest I could only purchase the trousers & shorts from the range but for the price if I was in there I would pick some up.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend the range to anyone who is happy to shop for uniform in the supermarkets as I feel these shorts are a lot like sains & tesco clothes. Im not sure I could convert a M&S or John Lewis shopper. I'm sure many parents would be happy to put their child in Matalan uniform. It does wash & fit well & looks smart.

Cashncarry · 03/05/2016 12:59

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
I was aware of the range but not the "Teflon Stain Resistant Range"

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
Good fit and colour.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
Holds up quite well alongside our normal supermarket brand type uniform

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Quite likely depending upon price

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I probably would recommend, again depending upon the price of the range as compared to similar products both in Matalan and other stores.

Bluetwirl · 03/05/2016 13:11

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

I knew Matalan did school uniform, but i hadnt really paid much attention to what they offered, and i didnt know about the stain resistant range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
I loved the style of the pinafore, it was really sweet, although the sizing was crazy! I bought age 8 for my 5 year old, the dresses didn't seem to be much different in size so went for the biggest one. shes average size for her age and it fits her normally.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
The style was lovely, a really traditional pinafore which i loved. the material is nice and the grey colour was good. the comfort factor is important and my daughter really likes wearing the dress. however, it has been washed once and there are already a couple of bobbly bits on the decorative bows. Definitely not good enough! i only washed at 40 degrees and didnt tumble dry it.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
i really like the style of the dress, but as the bobbling occurred so soon after i washed the item, i might think twice before buying anything else from the range. the prices were good and comparable to ASDA but I'm not convinced the quality is quit high enough.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I might recommend it as an alternative place, but i wouldnt rave about it and encourage other parents to head there specially, it was good, but not amazing.

vincenta · 03/05/2016 13:55

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

No.I wasn't aware that Matalan do school uniform range and I didn't know anything about teflon stain resistant range too.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

I bought grey school trousers for 7 years old boy.Trousers washed well, but was creased after wash (my indesit washing machine creases everything) it took some time to iron them properly. All in all they looked good, fitted well. However they were thinner than sainsburys' or tesco's school trouser range, but looked good and son commented that it was comfortable to wear them too.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

Style was good,I love that I can adjust wide of trousers as my boy is slim. Trousers weren't too bulky and looked good. All in all I liked them a lot.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I would love to purchase item of school clothing but Matalan need to think about stock.I went to Staines store and there were only on trousers in age 7 I thought that I am lucky. When I buy trousers I try to buy more than one pair and prefer shops which have bigger choice of sizes and styles. I hate to buy something just because there isn't anything I really like in size I need.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
All in all trousers were nice and still look good.I would reccomend.

Carikube · 03/05/2016 14:44

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

I was aware that they did uniform, but not the Stain Resistant Range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

Perfectly acceptable; my daughter liked the pattern on the grey skirt as she normally wears plainer ones.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

It was pretty much the same - I normally buy our uniform from Sainsbury's and this felt fairly equivalent.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Possibly. I tend to buy uniform in Sainsbury's when they have their promotions around doubling up Nectar points so if it worked out cheaper to get them from Matalan or if Sainsbury's didn't have what I wanted, then I would.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would say that they are fine - I wouldn't get too carried away as it is nothing out of the ordinary but I wouldn't discourage anyone from getting their uniform there.

LynnGay159 · 03/05/2016 17:54

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically
No I wasn't aware that Matalan sold School Uniform.
Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
I tried the boys shorts which were very big in the waist even though I had gone a size smaller and adjusted to the max they were still a little loose they wash well but come out rather more creased than my usual brand.
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
I think if I needed trousers I would not have got the length because I had to go a size smaller to get the waist small enough. there was not a lot of choice of style and had to buy shorts with large pockets which I'm not keen on , my son said they were comfy even though they were a bit loose,i think I prefer his usual uniform as I doesn't crease so much after washing.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I have to travel a few miles to my nearest Matalan and wouldn't risk buying online because I'd need to try on for size, so I wouldn't make a special journey just for uniform.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Possibly would recommend but I,d recommend taking the children to try on for size.

homeeconomics · 03/05/2016 20:01

Thanks for the opportunity to test the skirt. Here are my answers:
Q1. Yes I was aware of Matalans school uniforms before taking part in this product test but not of the Teflon Stain Resistant range.
Q2. We thought the skirt looked nice and was comfortable. It seems durable and will last well. The adjustable waist was a bonus feature.
Q3. My daughter said she liked the fit and didn't want to take it off. Seems to be better quality than other supermarket brands that I usually buy.
Q4. I am very likely to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan as I have done this quite regularly before. It is good value.
Q5. Yes would definitely recommend as I think it is a good range and you can click and collect.

Hope this is useful 😀

MaccaPaccaismyNemesis · 03/05/2016 20:50

I purchased a pair of grey trousers for DS. I was entirely unaware of the fact Matalan sold school uniform.

I thought they were a good fit and compare well to supermarket brands though m&s were nicer quality. The price is attractive though.

I usually buy uniform from Asda, Sainsbury's and M&S. I would say the Matalan uniform is comparable with Asda/Sainsbury's in terms of quality and pricing.

I would definitely consider buying from Matalan again though our local one is poorly located.

I would recommend to others if it came up in conversation.

Andbabymakesthree · 03/05/2016 22:09

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
No I wasn't aware of any of matalans range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

The material was pretty standard but a little shiny on the hemline. I also brought some M & S trousers same day and thought quality was comparable.
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

It didn't fit as well as his current Aldi trousers. The style was nice but not great on him. He's very skinny.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Sorry very unlikely. Firstly I found shopping in matalan depressing. The uniform was all mixed up ( it was first thing too) and poorly displayed. Items on wrong hangers. Not all grouped together and very limited choice in anything black. The toilet had no hand soap in it. The cashier's kept responding to a manager on the radio ( the manager wasn't taking the cues she was busy either) when she called the manager to help with voucher I could tell he wasn't impressed. We actually sorted the issue before he came down and I'd left before he'd even arrived. Not very customer focused.

If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I don't think the price is that great. The shopping experience was awful. It's hard to test one item in isolation.

HildaWazzo · 03/05/2016 23:49

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?
No, I wasn't aware of Matalan's range of school uniform.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
We tested a pleated skirt. I'm very pleased with it. My daughter likes the style. It looks very smart, washes well and has retained the pleats perfectly so far.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
We usually get non-school-logo uniform from Tesco or M&S. I think the Matalan skirt is slightly superior to Tesco's in both fit and style. My daughter is equally comfortable in all her uniform. Our M&S items are pinafores so can't be directly compared, but the fabric feels similar to the Matalan skirt.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I would be fairly likely to consider buying school uniform from Matalan. My daughter enjoyed shopping there (although that has more to do with the rest of their clothing range!) as she had never been before. I was pleased with the item itself. However, there was very limited stock in my daughter's size (10 years) so I would probably order online and collect in store. We had to choose a size 11 skirt and adjust the waist a bit more than usual. I would have liked to test the grey culottes but there was only one pair in age 6 on display when we went in.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it but I would also let them know about the limited stock available.

bicky · 04/05/2016 00:05

I wasn't aware that matalan sold uniforms
The trousers were a nice quality
Nice style, just as good as supermarket uniform
Yes I would purchase if near a store
Yes I would recommend

Hi. Thanks for letting me be a tester! ☺️

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically? It's not a shop I've been in for several years, so wasn't aware they sold school uniform, but I would have probably assumed that they did do a range. Wasn't aware of the Teflon range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested? I bought a pair of grey trousers for my son. They seemed reasonable quality & were a good style & fit. Didn't get to check how stain resistant they are though.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer. The fit was good on my slim boy. Appreciate any trousers with an adjustable waist for him!! They were comfy & we liked the style.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms? I would definitely consider it if I was in the area (as my local Matalan isn't all that local), but find Sainsburys more convenient to pick up good quality uniform, as it's close by.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, I think I would. I have had no problems with the item I got, & the prices seemed reasonable.

ReedBunting · 04/05/2016 12:26

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

No - not aware at all. I'd not shopped in Matalan for years, mainly because the nearest store is a bit of a drive from where Iive and so other places are more convenient for me.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

Stock availability wasn't great - It was lucky that they had an item of the right size in stock in the store - there was very little aged 6 on the shelves at all, and I managed to pick up the last pair of trousers in that size. The fit is very large - they looked very baggy compared to the normal style of trousers that my son wears, however once I had taken in the waistband using the adjustable elastics, they only looked slightly baggy on him. I was somewhat surprised by the pricing to be honest, as I had purchased a pair of new school trousers from Next the week beforehand and they were exactly the same price. I would have expected Matalan to have been less expensive? Material quality is good - as thick as the old John Lewis pairs that these are replacing, and probably slightly thicker than the Next ones. Time will tell how well it lasts compared with the brands that I usually buy.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

Fit is very baggy and not great for my very slight son. I normally try to find slimmer fitting trousers so I don't end up with a huge amount of fabric around his waist. Once I had adjusted the waistband, they fitted ok, though there was still a lot of excess fabric. A slim cut style trouser would be a good idea. Length is the same as other pairs I have purchased elsewhere.
Fabric nice and thick, and feels as soft as other pairs of trouser we have, and they have washed and tumbled well with any marks coming out at first time of washing. Saying that, the crease down the front has disappeared, unlike the one in the pair purchased the week before from Next. I have not ironed the Matalan ones yet, but I would imagine that in a few more weeks that they will need a quick press to smarten them up.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Store location is for me a big factor as it's a round trip of an hour to go there. I would probably research online and see what they had available and compare online with other places more conveniently located. So I think I would be unlikely to buy there unless I was passing directly and in urgent need / there was a special offer on. I would consider reserving an item instore as well given the lack of sizes available when I visited the store to purchase this pair.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would probably recommend as one to try, though this would change to a definitely if there was a slim fit trouser style as an option.

Thank you!

Q1. Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

No, I didn't even realise that Matalan did uniforms.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

I think it looks and feels like other similar items of uniform offered in supermarkets.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

I don't think the fit is as comfortable for my child as uniform I have purchased from Asda before. she complains that it is tight around her chest where the zip fastens. The style however was similar to other uniform items I have purchased previously.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Whilst I the store I bought two other items of uniform (not the Teflon ones) and they are great. a good fit and comfortable for my child. I would consider these again in future but maybe not the Teflon ones as there isn't as much give and they aren't as comfortable.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think I would be neutral as it wasn't great but it wasn't really bad either. it may just be my daughter is a difficult shape? I'm not sure.
