Were you aware of Matalan’s range of school uniforms before taking part in this product test? If so, were you aware of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range, specifically?

I was aware of Matalan's uniforms before but not the Stain Resistant range. Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested? I took my daughter with me to Matalan so she picked the pinafore. I thought it looked lovely and was a great size, plenty room for all her playground antics and very good price. Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer. I will admit I have been buying Asdas uniforms as its very affordable and as soon as its unwearable I just chuck it but this pinafore washed great. I feel if get a lot of wear from it. The price is great. Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms? I think I've been converted to Matalan's uniforms I was very impressed with the pinafore. Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend the Matalan item of school uniform you tested to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? I would tell family and friends that I was very impressed and about the range of uniforms that Matalan has.

Knew they did uniform, but not stain resistant.

Looked smart. Good colour. Good length. Accurate sizing.

Decent. Looks nice. Child liked the shorts. Age 9, tightened on adjustable sides, fitted slim nine year old well.

Yes definitely. Prices were good.
So far they look good and have washed well. Not needed to iron!

I knew Matalan did school clothes, but I wasn't aware of the choice or the Teflon Stain Resistant Range.

I choose a pinafore for my little girl. She is 6.5 yrs old, I selected a 6yrs, as she is slim it fitted nicely but would have looked like a sausage skin on some six year olds. She is average height and it looked good not too short, with pretty zip flower detail and embroidery on the pocket, with simple pleats to the lower half at the front.
Both she and my self found the zip tricky if done upto the top as it stuck. But it washed well don't know how it would fare in a tumble dryer as I don't have one.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

I usually buy my daughters pinafores from John Lewis or Marks and Spencer's . This Matalan pinafore was good. A good design and fit. The zip was sticky at the top, and could have done with going down a little lower to make getting on and off easier. She liked the girly design touches, and choose to wear over her other pinafores.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

I would definitely buy school uniform from Matalan again. Lots of choice and competitively priced. Washed well and good fit on my daughter.

Will certainly tell people to shop for school uniform at Matalan. It looks smart and so far has proved to be stain resistant and she does like to get messy.

I was aware of matalan stocking uniform, but not of the stain resistant range.  Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
My DS liked the style and the fit was good. Good quality, washed well, kept stains away! Yeah!  Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
I usually buy trousers and shorts from a school wear shop as my son is tall and slim. Matalan's shorts were better, long in length and the elasticated waist meant they could be pulled in without a belt, making them more comfortable for my son. They also stocked a few styles so the choice was good too.  Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I have already returned to purchase more shorts, and will probably purchase more uniform there in the future. Especially as the click and collect service will make the job painless!  Q5. I would recommend to friends and family as the clothing is good quality and reasonable in price.

No never heard of them before.

It was something Ihad not thought of buying before. We got the skort because my daughter prefers to where trousers and I thought it would be a nice compromise.

I usually buy trousers for my daughter but this time we bought a skort. The fit was good and the item was very comfortable. She was happy to wear this item as a nice change from trousers. We usually buy from the same place each time but will think of coming to matalan in the future.

I would purchase from matalan again but the store is a bit out of my way. I like to buy uniforms in store rather than online

Yes we were aware of the school uniform range and with three school age children (and a Matalan within 15 minutes drive) we have a lot of their range already, but I specifically aware of the Teflon Range

The skirt was very short, I got an age 10 skirt for my below average height 8 year old daughter and the skirt was a few inches above her knees. The waist was massive and it only fitted using the adjustable waist. I think it will be a skirt that my 6 year old daughter wears going forward. The quality was great, and the fabric was a soft stretchy one which doesn't need ironing (always a plus ) I just wish that it was at least knee length, not all schools are happy with the pupils wearing mini skirts.

As we usually buy Matalan or Sainsbury's the quality was the same.

Quite likely but this time of year the range in the local store is not great so I would probably buy online

It is good quality fabric and a nice style. I am impressed.

It compares very well. The fabric is better quality. The style is very nice and it is a good comfortable fit. I prefer it to the usual supermarket uniform I have bought.

I would definitely consider Matalan. Our nearest store is about 10 miles away so the main restriction is that it requires a specific trip.

I would recommend.

I have been impressed with this school uniform. However, the stain resistant range seems quite limited. I really wanted navy girls trousers but you only do black. More choice would be good.
I also bought some other items but was not very happy that I didn't get the 2 for £10 advertised deal as I don't have a Matalan card.
Your staff were also pretty grumpy and wanted to refuse my Mumsnet voucher because I didn't have a Matalan card.

I knew that Matalan sold uniform but was not aware specificaly of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

I really liked it. My daughter loved the shorts that she tested. I liked the adjustable waist as I always need to adjust uniform in for my children. It washed well and barely needed ironed.

It fit well once adjusted, my daughter loved the style and found them very comfortable for cartwheeling around in. I found the material was perhaps a little lighter than where I normally buy from, however did not seem much different except the price.

I think I would buy again from Matalan for some items.

Yes and yes.

Not brilliant to be honest, It is stiff even after washing and is not a good fit on my child.

It is not a favourite compared to others, it is stiff material compared to other softer brands, it has no shape to it so is baggy round her waist but tight round her bottom (I did get the right size, the next op up was way too big) but it does wash well and does not need ironing, and it will last a long time with the durability. Some other brands go bobbly and I don't think this one will.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Pretty unlikely-the range was rubbish at the first store we went to. The second store was slightly more varied but the dresses and skirts that I would choose where either too long or did not fit well as previously mentioned.

No because of what I have already said. Disappointing range, the fit is not good for my daughters shape and stiff material.

Overall impressions are good so far. My child has form for coming home covered in paint or whiteboard pen, the latter is usually next to impossible to get out of trousers. So far all the paint and pen has washed out of the trousers I bought.

The trousers were as good as those I usually buy from other stores. My child is tall for his age but skinny and the trousers were a bit big on the waist but no more than any other trousers. He said they were really comfortable to wear. They also washed really well in terms of creases and holding their shape.

I'm quite likely to buy more from this range when they're needed, probably in August ready for the new school year.

Yes I'd definitely recommend the uniform to friends and family. So far they've been great value for money, only time will tell how hard wearing they are but so far indications are good.

No, I wasn't aware they did uniform but I would probably have assumed they did.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

I chose to get some cargo style trousers in grey for ds2. I liked the colour, the material seems thick and hard-wearing. The velcro side pockets were nice and deep and the velcro seems strong. I've washed them only a couple of times (as amazingly he's kept them relatively clean!) and they seem to have washed well.

Ds2 tends to have a lot of hand-me-downs as far as uniform goes so a bit of a mash up of styles and brands. The Matalan trousers seems on a par, if not better, than most as regards the quality of the fabric and the style.
Fit-wise they are as good as others. Ds2 says they are like his others but comfier.
I can see why they have an adjustable waist but felt that we had to adjust them greatly - he is quite slim but then so are lots of his friends so I'm not sure quite who they are aimed at - the waist seemed huge. Having said that, once adjusted they didn't look too bunched up so that's good.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Yes, I would definitely consider it. However, my Matalan is not that convenient. Perhaps I would look into delivery though. Convenience is a big factor with the uniform I buy which is why I often end up with M&S - I can get those delivered free to a Simply Food locally.

Nice cut and shape, good that the trouser waist was adjustable (I have a skinny boy that i struggle to get trousers long enough that don't swamp him elsewhere), decent quality so far although time will tell if they last as well.
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer. Comparable with Asda George & Morrisons Nutmeg (usual staples) for school trousers but noticed that there were more styles of trousers to choose from which was nice - DS liked the cargo style that we tried, they fitted his skinny frame well, without being too short and he's not complained about them in terms of comfort which is telling as he'd soon let me know.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms? I'd consider it and would probably go back for at least the trousers.

I have made purchases from the Matalan school wear range before but did not know about the Teflon Stain Resistant Range.

We chose some boys black school trousers. They have washed well and look almost as new although I think it's fair to say that ds3 (9) is a musician as oppose to a sportsman and not particularly hard on clothes.

We had to try several different styles before finding a pair to fit well and I had to take up a hem but ds finds them very comfortable and they have not bobbled as some of his supermarket ones have done.

I would buy from them again. There was a shortage of suitable sizes in store but I would order online and have them delivered to the store.

Yes, I've bought bits of school uniform from Matalan before; polo shirts and girls summer dresses. I wasn't aware of the Teflon range.

My daughter and I liked it. My daughter thought the skirt was pretty and comfortable. I found that it washed well and didn't need ironing...a big plus point!

The skirt was very similar in style to an Asda skirt which my daughter already wears and which we both like. So style wise it compared favourably. The sizing was pretty good. My dd is 9, but tall, and the size 10-11 which is the size I'd normally buy her in other ranges, fit well. The skirt was just as comfy as her usual Asda and Sainsburys uniform skirts. Ds was pleased that the labels and waist adjuster weren't itchy as she sometimes has issues with these!

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Would definitely purchase. Good price and as long as the item continues to wash well, I'll be impressed with the quality.

First 2 Matalan stores I went to had very limited uniform and no Teflon range. I contacted customer services and they were able to tell me my nearest store that had stock available. I had to contact the store to ask them to reserve a pair of black trousers. My daughter is 12 but she had tried a pair of normal school trousers on in a 12 and they were slightly too short and tight around the top of her thighs so I reserved an age 13.

Overall very impressed with the trousers and my daughter was happy to wear them.

When I touched the trousers my first thought was that they felt better quality than her other trousers. I like that they have an adjustable waist, they are slightly too long but they are a bigger size and otherwise fit well. My daughter's school is very strict about trousers not being tight which has been a problem when previously buying trousers but these were great. The material is thick and my daughter complained they were too warm the first week she wore them but said they have been perfect this week. They have washed and ironed well.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I will definitely buy uniform from Matalan in the future. I would have bought some blouses at the same time but they did not have any in her size. Although stock was limited at this time, I assume there will be a better choice in the coming months.

Yes, I was aware of the overall range, but not of the Teflon Stain Resistant Range.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?

Generally good - but the actual purchase procedure is no fun. It took quite some time, going through rack after rack to try and find the right size - no sense of grouping by age, i.e. 11-16 on one section, 4-10 on another, it's all random. The rails were crammed full, so the front lot of items fall off onto the floor when you look further back, the sizes were all out of order and often on the wrong hangers. That was followed up with a long wait in a long queue (on a weekday afternoon). Unless I have time to kill, I might stick to buying online next time.

The boys' trousers I bought have washed and worn well over the 2 weeks they've been used, so I can't comment on long-term durability. I tend to value durability over 'stain resistance' to be honest, after knees have gone on previous purchases! The kind of fabric school trousers are made of these days don't seem to let stains 'sink in' anyway, so I'm not really sure of its value as a USP. The fit has been fine - no complaints on that score. There's not enough fabric to let them down sadly, but that is pretty usual these days & particularly at the sort of prices these are on sale for.

I actually purchased a skirt for DD at the same time, and that feels quite solid and durable. But boys' trousers obviously do take more of a hammering!

It was pretty much in line with others I'd bought, most recently from Asda.

Pretty likely; it's the closest store to me that sells uniform. As said, the offline purchase experience is not the best, but it could easily be improved!

I wouldn't say they were better than anywhere else. But I would recommend them, certainly on price. They're decent quality and decent value.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested? Material felt a little cheap but it looked fine and it looked like it would wear well. Good price also!
Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer. Comfortable to wear, looked nice on and the fit was ok too. I do think I prefer my usual brand (slim fit M&S) as they look better on him but I did like these too!
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms? If my son wore through his knees on a regular basis I would certainly get these as they are stronger and cheaper but he doesn't so would prob stick to usual on the whole but would certainly consider buying these as spare/back up. I would but other items though such as the girls summer dresses when my daughter is old enough to go to school as I saw these in the colour of the school age will attend and they looked lovely!

I wasn't aware that Matalan did school uniform at all

felt nice, looked nice, washed well

It compared well. We brought the pinafore and it seemed 'thicker' than the normal ones we buy. It fitted nicely and my daughter is tall and slim so we do have trouble. She seems comfortable in it and is more than happy to wear it.
Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I would consider them although I always find our local Matalan doesn't have lots of stock so getting what you want in the right size can be a problem and they have to be good prices for me to bother as they aren't close to anywhere else and so require a visit just to do one shop which may not have the right size can be an issue

I would recommend but probably tell people to only go if they were passing anyway

No. I had never thought of going to matalan for school uniform

Surprised. The quality seems good. The thickness of the fabric is better than the thinner skirts I have been buying in the supernarket

It was much better from the uniform I usually buy from Tesco. I was unable to get an age 3 skirt so I had to go for age 4. thiscwasnt a problem as I was able to adjust the waist. Even though I had adjusted it it still fitted well and looked smart, normally they look bunched up but the matalan skirt adjusted well

Yes, as long as its the same quality of fabric

Yes definitely, great quality. I have 2 little girls, I need clothes that will last so that they can be handed down. The skirt washed well and was very easy to iron
