Although I was aware that Matalan stocked school uniform, I was not aware that it stocked a 'Teflon Stain Resistant Range'.
I thought that the quality was really good for the price. It looked really smart on and was surprisingly well detailed (we chose a pinafore with some embroidery on it).
I think it compared really well to our usual uniform. It has washed very well and requires little or no ironing. The paint/crayon/felt tip/random stickiness seems to come out well too. It was comfortable and looked pretty stylish (as far as school uniform can).
I'm definitely heading to Matalan when we next stock up on uniform. I'll save a fortune!
I'd definitely recommend the range. It is hard wearing, fab value and looks smart. What else do you need from uniform, eh?

I tested the Girls box pleat skirt and found it quite durable.

The trousers were a really good fit for my slim 6 year old. Good quality and should last.

Much better fit than his usual trousers and seemed comfortable.

Will definitely consider Matalan as the fit was perfect.

I wasn't aware that Matalan sold school uniform. I never think to go there when it comes to buying uniforms for my kids. Its not a shop I go in that regular as it is out of the way.

Fantastic!. I got some comfort fit trousers for my son who is 12 and I am really impressed. I love the fact that they are stain resistant and have a secure hem. They look lovely on, are very comfortable apparently, and wash and iron beautifully.

I was firstly very impressed with the choice that Matalan offered of every item. I thought the material was a better qaulity thatn the trousers I normally buy. The overall fit is better, they look nicer on and I was very impressed with the comfort fit and stain resistant. They are excellent value for money.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

I am very likely as I was impressed with the choice, quality, durability and price.

I was aware Matalan had a range of school uniform but did not know about the Teflon range.

I chose a black pleated skirt and it was very good. The skirt felt like good quality and has stayed looking like new with no stains (which is very impressive with a dyspraxic daughter!)

I normally buy school skirts and pinafores from Sainsburys. Matalan's skirt seems to fit better as Sainsburys always seem a little big. Both stores have an elasticated waist with is very useful and are both a similar style although Matalan's doesn't seem to need ironing as much (hooray!).My child didn't even notice she was wearing a new skirt so it must be comfortable to wear!

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
I would definitely consider Matalan in the future. Having a chance to try this brand has shown me how good this Teflon brand is, very good quality at a good price.

Yes ,I would recommend. I was very pleased with the skirt, it's hardwearing and good value for money.

I normally buy uniform from m and s and they are definitely comparable in terms of quality and fit. My son preferred the matalan shorts as he liked the pockets

My daughter is a tall 4 year old and was wearing age 5 from next. I bought age 6 and it fitted well so maybe shorter than other stores. She liked the style and I was happy with it too. It seemed comfortable and she had no complaints

I would certainly consider it. My only reseervation would be that it needed ironing which I've rarely had to do with school dresses. Might just have been the style though

My daughter tested the skirt. I though it was very high quality, it was and felt very strong material and it washed well and looked great on.

I felt that the material was way more thicker than other skirts we have and ones we have bought before. The style and the fit was very similar to other skirts out there that look the same. M daughter said it was comfortable and had no complaints.

I would definitely head to Matalan when buying school uniform in future.

I would recommend as most moms i know use Matalan anyway, so i would recommend to them if we were talking about uniforms in general. I would recommend as i think the uniform is made to last and that's what we all want don't we!?

It was good and fitted really well. I very much liked the waist adjustment button as my son is rather thin but not small.

My son runs around a lot, like most boys, not being too careful to what he is wearing and the trousers are definitely made with a strong material that washes very easily.

I am very likely to purchase more of this range of school uniform trousers / shorts.

If it came up in conversation I would definitely recommend the trousers we tested although I would suggest to only look at the teflon label as the trousers we tested were not labelled as stain resistant. For some reason, the shop had a very selective list of what we were allowed to test that did not include all the teflon / stain resistant school uniform range.

It was perfectly fine

I didn't like the feel of the fabric as much - maybe this is due to the Teflon coating. The style and fit were good, and DD liked the embroidered flowers.

May do, but wouldn't make a special trip. Pinafore was no better than the Sainsbury's ones DD already has and was more expensive. However, Matalan get bonus points for being the only shop with a decent range of school tights still available in April!

Q2 quality of the school skirt was good and had adjustable waist which is great .

Q3 had adjustable waist and it fits lovely my daughter says its comfy to wear .

Q4 I would buy from matalan again good quality and isn't too expensive they had a good range of styles in store too .

Yes. I am aware of the school uniform range from Matalan.

I am impressed with the quality and the wear and tear of the skirt. It was stylish for my daughter to wear and she liked it.

It was a bit longer than our usual buy but that's not a problem as my daughter is quite tall for her age. She did however find that it slips down quite a bit during the day. I washed it after each day and it washed very well and dried quickly and was a breeze to iron!

I would buy my daughters uniform from Matalan but there isn't one near us, so I have to wait till I visit my parents. I would also like the pinafore dresses to go up to age 13 as she is quite tall and even though she is 8 she wears age 10-11 currently!

Yes!
I was very impressed with the wash ability, dry ability and iron ability of the skirt! It was all very easy and required very little effort!

We tested a navy pinafore (aged 3) with a zip front. It looked stylish and smart, I loved the detail. DD tested it to the extreme by rolling around the gravel nursery car park floor in it (don't you love 3 year olds?!) - it washed really well and didn't suffer for the experience.

DD doesn't wear uniform yet, so can't really compare it to other ranges - but impressed with how it looked and performed!

Very likely, it looks great and washes and wears well (I sound like my mother! ), I was impressed.

Definitely. It's reasonable priced, the sizing is generous, so room to grow, and despite DD trying her best to wreck it, it survived!

I was surprised by the fit of the shorts I bought. I have found Matalan clothing to be on the small side, but wasn't the case with this uniform. DS likes the style with pockets at the sides, lots of room for rocks and sticks apparently.

I've been back and bought a couple more pairs of shorts

Particularly liked the elasticated adjustable waist band. They washed ok but did need a bit of an iron which I found disappointing^

My DD tested a skirt. We both liked the fact that there were 2 different lengths for the skirt. It washed and dried well. It kept its pleats and looked great after a quick iron.

It compares well to the uniform I typically purchase. The skirt fitted well, is available in 2 different lengths and was comfortable for my DD to wear. It had an adjustable waist too.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Going to Matalan is more convenient than going into town so it will definitely be on the list to visit in the future to see what range is available.

Yes I was aware of both and had had some of their shorts previously.

Very good. I thought the quality was excellent and the sizing was good. I have washed the trousers a few times now and they are still looking as good as new. I think the range represents excellent value for money.

I think the pricing is slightly more than Supermarket brands, however, I felt the fit and quality was much better and my son said they were comfortable to wear. I definitely prefer them over our usual brand.

I would definitely use Matalan in future for school uniform.

No, I hadn't bought school uniform from them before. Maybe i just hadn't seen it in our local store. On looking for the trousers to trial I noticed a really nice summer school dress for DD so will likely go back to buy that.

It looked nice, material felt ok (not scratchy) and it washed well.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.

I usually buy from M&S. We tried the flat front trouser. The style is good, and comparable to Marks but felt the sizing was generous. DS usually takes his age, but in a longer length. He is fairly tall but not wide. Had to size up to age 9 as 8 was too short, but meant that it was slightly too big around the middle.

Yes, would definitely buy from there is if I was near the store.

Happy with the skirt- the pleats have remained in after washing

The fit is a bit short in length (skirt) compared to the same size from M&S, had I been able to see it inshore I would have got a larger size. The style is exactly the same as M&S and DD is happy with how it feels

I would consider IF my local store stocked navy which they don't despite lots of local schools having navy uniforms. To participate in the trial I had to buy the skirt online, then when it arrived in store return it and re-buy it with the code. Also online Matalan did not have as much choice in navy as in black or grey.

The material seemed a reasonable quality and the school trousers that we tried looked smart.

The fit was quite generous although my son is a very slim build.,comfort wise my son commented on the fact it was more comfortable ( he had selected pull on trousers and sometimes the buttons irritate him.) Style wise they looked very smart

I would consider Matalan as the pricing seems on par with most other places. the range wasn't huge at the store I visited, to be honest they seemed to be re organising that area so perhaps the range will be better when its just before the next school year when most shops seems to push uniform.

Yes i'd recommend. The fit and style was good, how long it lasts we'll need to wait and see but so far it has washed well.

My son was very happy with the trousers. We both liked the fit and they looked comfortable on him.

The fit was perfect. My son struggles as he's tall for his age with a big (lovely) bottom so we struggle to get trousers to fit him. The range of different trousers available was so good. We were surprised at how many different ones that fitted him. He says they are very comfortable and likes wearing them.

We will definitely buy from Matalan again after trying these trousers. We also purchased some t shirts for school which are great.

No - I wasn't aware that Matalan sold school uniform.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of the Matalan item of school uniform you tested?
Tested a grey box pleat school skirt. It looked good and held the pleats after washing with no ironing required. Washed well. My only issue was with the sizing as the skirts came up quite short on my nearly 4 year old so had to go up a couple of sizes. This then meant that the waist was too big and had to be pulled in to the maximum with the elastic adjustment.

Q3. How did the Matalan item of school uniform your child tested compare to the school uniform items you typically purchase? Please refer to fit, style, and comfort in your answer.
Usually buy from the supermarkets. The Matalan skirt was similar in style and my daughter said there was no difference in comfort. The Matalan skirt felt slightly better quality and washed well. As mentioned above the only issue was with the length and we had to go up a couple of sizes for this reason.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?
Would probably buy from Matalan again. The school uniform range is good value for money and the range appeared to have a good selsction of items.

I would recommend for the reasons mentioned above.

Not at all.

Very pleased, material seems hardy, washes well and my son was pleased with them.

We usually buy BHS but when we found out their future was looking shaky I remember commenting on a thread on Mumsnet saying where could I get nice trousers for a tall slim boy. My son is tall and slender and unless we buy from a slim fit range or BHS he tends to need a belt. We were really pleased to find the wee adjustable straps inside the Matalan range as we can adjust for him and give me a more comfortable fit that looks smarter.

In terms of style, I would usually say black trousers are black trousers and boy's styles are much of a muchness. But these looked great, fitted him well thanks to the straps and he hasn't needed a belt which is more comfortable and easier when changing for sports.

Q4. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing an item of school uniform from Matalan if you were in need of school uniforms?

Very likely. Between both my son and us being pleased it looks like we're onto a winner. Great range, very well priced for what they are and they wear and wash well. Can't ask for much more from a uniform.

The staff in store were also VERY helpful and friendly and that also makes a difference when we choose where to shop.

I would, the adjustable waist means you know you can add or lose and inch, which is great for pre-teens having growth spurts, plus when trying on you're not trying 50 pairs on to see which is the best fit, we can just adjust.

They washed well in a hot wash and took the tumble drier no bother either, so convenient from that side of things.

I'd also recommend based on price as I feel the trousers were well worth £8.
