how easy was it to use
It seemed easy enough, although the result was not as artistic as dd(5) had envisaged. Ds(2) struggled to get much icing out of the tube. However, all the icing ran overnight, which was disappointing.

did the dcs enjoy the activity?
Yes. DD was very excited to do it and they both had fun.

did they like the chocolate?
Mixed results. Half of it has vanished, but the other half is still sitting there virtually untouched. So one of them did like it, the other didn't.

would I recommend it to a friend?
Probably, but only at the right price. As others have suggested, different colours of icing (which didn't run overnight) would have made it more fun.

The pictures show dd's (5) first, then ds's (2)

And this was the egg the next morning after the icing had run.

Unfortunately our egg was broken but we had fun with it anyway!
I decided to try the icing out on a biscuit instead and my 2 year old had a play but it was quite thin, as others have mentioned.
He def had fun though! However there isn't much to it - it would be more fun to have diff coloured icing, or sweets to decorate?
Did we enjoy the chocolate? Absolutely!!
Would I recommend? Probably not - it's just a bit boring! Cadburys am 100% sure you can do better than a single tube of white icing for decorating.
Thanks for letting us test!

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?

Our egg was unfortunately too badly damaged to attempt to decorate. My daughter used the icing pen on biscuits I had made and a small easter egg we had in the house. The icing was very hard for a three year old to use and unfortunately I didn't fare much better, the icing was definitely on the thin side so quite hard to make any patterns on the egg.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

My daughter loves any craft or baking activities so she did enjoy using the icing pen but I had to add things such as sprinkles and small sweets as the icing pen on its own didnt hold her attention for long.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

Yes we all enjoyed the taste of the egg, being smashed had no impact in her enjoying the chocolate at all Grin

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend

I think this kit is a good idea but for next easter I think the contents could be improved on, such as adding little extras to decorate the egg. I like the idea of being able to get children engaged in a craft activity rather than just eating their egg! But I was impressed with the egg stand, I would recommend this to a friend but would comment that it is a very basic decorate your own egg kit.

Thank you for selecting us!

-How easy was the decorating kit to use? It was ok, the icing pen was a bit of a faf and messy to use. The egg was broken but we've done the best we can. I can say it was incredibly sticky to do and eat..
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity? She did for the whole 5 mins it took to do.
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg? It's chocolate... Of course she did 😃
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend? Unlikely as my DD is now wanting to eat the whole egg as its decorated. Not the ideal Sunday breakfast..

How easy was the decorating kit to use?

When the package arrived in an envelope and we opened the egg to start decorating the egg was smashed into pieces so there was no decorating for us unfortunately.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

Because it was smashed we didn't do it.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

Any chocolate they enjoy.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?

Hard to say because I didn't get the experience of decorating it.

Sallyingforth · 20/03/2016 12:52

The fact that so many of the eggs arrived broken is a perfect metaphor for the broken company that Cadbury now is after its takeover by Kraft /mondelez.

We loved doing this however, we decorate a lot of biscuits and cakes so dd was very disappointed not to have sprinkles or anything else to put on the egg. I think some buttons or something to stick on would be a great addition. Rice paper faces would be amazing!

We did enjoy it...but had to move on quite quickly to biscuits as she found just icing very limiting.
We haven't eaten the egg yet as its not yet Easter and I have clearly said previously eggs are for Easter....
If the price was right and it had more than a cheap icing pen, and had maybe a leaflet for ideas and made it more of a project.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Fairly easy. The cardboard stand was easily assembled. The icing seemed a bit too funny, however we were decorating on a slightly warmer day do that may have affected things!

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

My DS and his daddy loved decorating the egg, I'm not sure who had the most fun to be honest!

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

The egg was enjoyed by all three of us. It was pretty messy as we were unable to wait until the icing had dried properly. Lovely Cadbury chocolate, creamy and didn't disappoint.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?

I like the concept, however a single tube of white icing got boring pretty quickly. If there were 2/3 colours plus some decoration sweets/ chocolates then i wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. However as it is it's probably not worth the mess!

MakeTeaNotWar · 20/03/2016 14:30

Finally our egg arrived. damaged but not too bad.

  • How easy was the decorating kit to use?

Super simple to use, took less than a minute to prepare.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Yes they really did. DC are aged 3 and 5 and they loved it although they ended up sucking the icing directly from the tube. DD (5) did comment she would have like to have other colours, maybe some sweeties to stick on too. As other said, the icing was very runny.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes it was delicious - and Mummy enjoyed it too.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Depends on the price point but yes it's simple fun that kept the DC busy for 10 minutes.

kierie · 20/03/2016 14:31
  1. The kit was easy to use, but I was disappointed that there was only one icing Len. I was expecting a few different colours or that the plain white would be the glue to stick on other decorations. Edible stickers would have been great to make eggy faces. My LO is 4 and was able to set the kit up and use it by himself.
  2. Yes, he enjoyed it, although it only took a few minutes. We found the kit quite limited. Laying the egg down stopped the icing from running as much and so, got a better finish. The activity turned into a competition to see how much icing he could add to the egg.
  3. Absolutely!
  4. Depends on the price. I wouldn't expect this to be any more expensive than the basic cadbury eggs.

  • How easy was the decorating kit to use?

Easy enough, though the icing ran a bit and quickly went hard again - no masterpieces were created!

  • Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

Very much so - a fun activity for a lazy Sunday morning!

  • Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

They certainly did - it didn't hang around long enough to get a photo, put simply!

  • Would you recommend this kit to a friend?

I would - it's fun for a young child.

AGrinWithoutACat · 20/03/2016 16:34
  • How easy was the decorating kit to use?

Easy to set up, egg came with a cardboard stand, I like that plastic was at a minimum making recycling easy. Icing didn't take long to warm and kneading it is something children of any age can do

DD (11) said it was easy to use, slightly annoying at first as the icing was runny, squeezing it out was easy and it was also easy to steal tasters mid-project

  • Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

DD said; Yes, it was quite entertaining playing with it but wanted different colours

  • Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

DD's answer - Icing sugar "tastes like store bought icing sugar" (she prefers butter icing but admits it would not be as easy to use to decorate the egg)

Chocolate was standard cadburys, DD likes it.

  • Would you recommend this kit to a friend?

DD said yes for fun, for serious art display, no. She thinks that younger children would enjoy this lots.

I would recommend for younger children as an enjoyable activity that needs minimal supervision, if I gave this as a gift I would be tempted to add a variety of sprinkles to it that could be stuck on the egg as additional decoration (if I bought as a gift for my own DC I would also make up small quantities of other colours of icing)

DD's recommendations for improvements, add chocolate ice cream to the middle (!?) - because ice cream is yummy - and make a dairy free version so children with milk allergies could enjoy it too

Read some of the other reviews after posting and if anyone from Cadburys is reading, yes yes to rice paper features to make silly faces! That sounds like fun :)

OhShutUpThomas · 20/03/2016 16:42

This is possibly one of the funniest threads I've ever seen.

They look like they've been ejaculated on. I've been trying to think of a nicer way to say it but I can't.
This isn't the fault of the decorators in ANY WAY - but honestly!! Crapbury's, what are you thinking!?? 😂😂😂😂

SoupDragon · 20/03/2016 17:12

I think the funniest thing is that not one of the reviewers seems to have said that. Only non testers :o

Of course they haven't. They are hoping to win the £300 for the best reply.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2016 17:32

There is no prize for the best reply though. It's just a draw.

TiggyD · 20/03/2016 17:45

Definitely the last few shots in an egg porn movie.

I suppose it kind of matches the chocolate which tastes like walrus cock.

SoupDragon · 20/03/2016 17:50

Never having tasted walrus cock, I'll take your word for that :)

BabyLinthwaite · 20/03/2016 17:54

The egg arrived damaged but it still managed to sit in the stand.
My little girl is 20 months old and this was her first try at Easter egg eating. She did struggle to squeeze the icing tube a bit. I thought that the icing colour on the chocolate looked a bit yuck together, I think a different colour would be more inviting to look at. She enjoyed eating a bit afterwards but as she's only 20 months and is limited to the amount she's allowed me and her daddy finished it on

Overall it's a brilliant idea but the icing needs to be of a different colour or a mixture of colours would be better.

Osquito · 20/03/2016 17:55
  1. DP and DSD said they struggled with the icing, saying it was solid, but I later realised it was because they'd not read the instructions... Still, I would have thought maybe something printed on the tube would be a bit more obvious helpful.
  1. DSD says despite the hard icing she liked decorating her own chocolate egg.
  1. Toddler DS approves of the chocolate. No surprise there... Grin
  1. I personally would not recommend this egg as it stands, because I was a little disappointed that it was just one tube of white icing. A few days before the egg actually arrived I had seen a (smaller) one by a different make where the box contained 3 icing colours... So I was surprised this one didn't have the same, or even more such as little choc decorations to stick on with the icing. Considering it is by such a well known, popular family brand i am hoping the product gets a little makeover!

Allegedly.

I wouldn't mind betting that the prize goes to the most complimentary answer.

sally2489 · 20/03/2016 22:43

My decorate eggs also unfortunately arrived in pieces, so we were unable to decorate it.😒
In theory, my 2 year old would have enjoyed decorating the egg and I liked the idea behind the product.
However, in practice more needs to be done to make this more fun and easier to use for children.
I would suggest the same as many others on this thread, that more colours of icing Pens and different decorations for the chocolate egg would have kept the attention of children longer than 1 white icing pen would have.
I tried using rhw icing pen on a small piece of chocolate piece and on a separate small biscuit, and both times I had the same issue as everyone else in that the icing was very runny and hard to control.
Basically it was boring and felt more like a chore using it, rather than a "fun" creative art activity that kids would enjoy.
