-How easy was the decorating kit use?
It was easy enough to use, I put the stand together and sat the egg on it. I put the egg on the stand with a bit of a slant in order to be able to decorate it.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
They did enjoy decorating the egg (3 year old twin girls) and their 15mo sister was desperate to have a go. (pic attached). I had a go too, but would have enjoyed it more if the icing was less fluid. I found the shapes and letters I did ended up with rounded corners instead of the sharp ones I'd tried to make.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
I broke the egg up and thought I'll see how much they (twins, not baby) will actually eat without restriction. They ate about half the egg and left the rest which surprised me.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Depending on how much it costs, i would say yes. it's a novel gimmick, and something different for an easter gift.

  • How easy was the decorating kit to use?

Not that easy - the icing seemed to go from really runny to solid and therefore difficult to control.

  • Did your DCs enjoy the activity?

DS (8) had a go but got fed up pretty quickly. I think he was expecting something more that just a tube of** white icing. I ended up playing around with it trying to design a Minion egg but couldn't make it look particularly neat or tidy. The stand was a good idea, maybe some suggestions or pictures to copy would have provided a bit of inspiration.

  • Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

Yes - it's chocolate - no complaints there!

  • Would you recommend this kit to a friend?

Not really, DS would have been just as happy with a Smarties/Buttons egg

Theimpossiblegirl · 16/03/2016 21:18

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
The icing started out a bit runny but then it was fine. The stand was really handy.
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Very much, it was good fun.
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes, they loved it.
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Yes, the DDs want to buy them for their cousins for Easter.

Thank you for choosing us to test chocolate!

Swex · 16/03/2016 21:19

Many thanks for choosing us for this activity.

How easy was the decorating kit to use?
I liked the concept and I liked the stand etc. The icing was difficult - very quickly became too soft when warmed. But when used cool was too soft. So a very difficult balance. We did manage to decorate in the end but it was a bit of work to do it!

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Yes they were very excited. And it was fun to include them and do something together.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes actually. Both children enjoyed it.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Hmm. Difficult. The icing was a difficult texture to work with, too soft or too hard and it changed from one to the other too quickly.

The kit was very easy to use. My daughter really liked it though her icing talents maybe need developing! She loved the chocolate as did her brother who she shared it with. I would recommend it although I think the icing could be better as others have said or even better the icing could be used as glue to decorate the egg with sprinkles or sweets?

Thank you Mumsnet & Cadburys fir giving us the egg kit to try out. I feel loudly from reading other reviews that ours didn't break while being delivered. Unfortunately like other testers we found the icing quite hard to use, when when warmed as directed. Also when put on the egg it dripped badly meaning our creations looked messy as you can see. The children enjoyed the chocolate - I'm not keen- it tasted cheap. They both decorated the egg but got frustrated with the icing. Not something I would recommend- sorry Cadburys.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
It was easy when you got the hang of it . You needed to have a practice first
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
The activity was fun and the kids enjoyed it
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
My children enjoyed the taste of the egg and enjoyed it a bit more because they had decorated it
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
I would recommend depending on price because it doesnt have anything greatly unusual to it.

Thanks for choosing us for this trial I will upload a photo soon

Still haven't received a kit despite being selected as a tester. I did PM MNHQ but have received no reply. Just don't want to be banned from future tests for not providing feedback.

SuzCG · 17/03/2016 14:02

Well, I'm going to be honest cause I think that's what I'm supposed to be...

  1. My 7 year old found it really quite difficult to get any sort of control over the icing tube - very hard to be able to get enough pressure to squeeze it out in any sort of pattern or shape. My 9 year old fared slightly better and managed a small picture - said it was trickier than he thought it would be. I had a go myself and yes, it was tricky. The icing tube seemed to go 'off' after a couple of minutes and you had to keep re-warming it. We left it to dry after we'd done it, but found when we came back found that the icing had dripped & run, which was a bit sad.
  2. The 7 year old quickly got bored because she couldn't really do it - went out on her bike instead. My 9 year old did like the challenge though and he said despite it being tricky he did enjoy it.
  3. Yes, obviously loved the taste - it was a Cadburys chocolate egg, at the end of the day!
  4. Not sure I would recommend in current format as a bit too tricky to keep my kids attention. Would it be better with some sort of chocolate to pipe on to it - perhaps this would be easier than stiff icing?

But thanks for allowing us to test anyway!

I'll attach a couple of pics of our 'masterpiece' just to show that with hard work we managed to do something with it!

Another one here with a very broken egg, unfortunately. :(

However I loved the idea of it. My eldest and I ate the chocolate and it was the usual great cadburys taste. I have promised my dc that they can use the icing on another egg at Easter time and I think they'll really enjoy it.

SaltySeaBird · 17/03/2016 18:31

Hi

Have had an email chasing me for feedback but have already posted twice and sent a PM that we didn't receive an egg.

We did have a parcel held at the post office with no postage that required a £3.00 payment to collect but didn't pick it up - last time we did it was just catalogues so not keen to go and pay even if it is the egg.

MNHQ can you confirm you have seen this and won't blacklist me for not giving feedback!

NoodieRoodie · 17/03/2016 19:00

I didn't need to warm the icing, having read other comments I thought it felt soft enough and any additional warming would be a mistake! It was way beyond our capabilities, the 4 year old could just about squeeze the tube but wasn't able to draw anything very well and the 2 year old could only do it with my help which didn't go down well! I had a go and managed a fairly dodgy looking flower.

The children weren't overly impressed by it,n it would have been far better if there had been things to stick on or if there were a variety of coloured icings.

The chocolate was lovely as expected.

I wouldn't recommend this, the basic idea is good but you'd be better off buying an Easter egg and decorating it yourself

Thank you for sending us the kit!

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?

It was easy to use, the stand showed off the results rather than being used for the icing, as it was easier lying the egg down.
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Yes they did. 5 year old and 3 year old boys, had lots of fun.
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?

They loved the chocolate and I sneaked a bit too. Yum.
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
I would, just the icing consistency could do with adjusting. A lovely activity to add to Easter rather than just eating the egg.

PinkSnowAndStars · 17/03/2016 19:24

Ours arrived in about 10 pieces. So again no decorating. I did let my 4 year old have a go at icing some bits, but he found it too hard and just ate the chocolate.

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Icing was hard to use for a small child.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
I think he would have done if the egg had arrived in one piece.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
No problems here. We loved the taste of the egg.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Sorry no, the icing was too hard to use, came out gloopy then hardened really quickly. Might be better for an older child but certainly not a younger child.

mumsbe · 17/03/2016 19:28

Here is a picture of the decorated egg as promised. We enjoyed this challenge thank you

How easy was the decorating kit to use?
The instructions were clear and made it seem like it would be easy to use but in reality it was an artistic disaster. Some of the instructions were subjective such as placing the icing in hot water. I am sure at some point it must reach it's optimum consistency however this never happened to us regardless of however may attempts we had. The result was a runny mess.

Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Yes as my son is too young to really care if what he puts on the egg looks like what it should. He had lots of fun and since most of the icing ran off it, it gave him a chance to have another go.
Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
He ate his egg excitedly realising it was before Easter and also like the taste of the icing which he attempted to squeeze into his mouth when he thought I was not watching!
Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
If you expect an artistic egg - no. However it was a fun Easter activity and I would buy one of these next year with the expectation that it is a fun activity rather than being able to achieve an Easter master-piece.

lolapops1 · 17/03/2016 20:04

-How easy was the decorating kit to use? I didn't think the kit was all that easy to use. The icing took a while to dry so it went a bit streaky. It wasn't that easy for the little ones to squeeze it out might be better if it was in something more pen shaped. Also a few different colours might of been better.
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity? Yes they enjoyed it.
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg? Yes but who doesn't like chocolate.
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend? No I don't think I would recommend it,it is quite basic. Maybe if there was a few different coloured icing included and stencils as well.

Taste update!

We've tried some now. It's ok, but rather too sweet and slimy; not the Cadbury chocolate of my childhood.

DS liked it, but only small nibbles.

vickipickernicker · 17/03/2016 20:30

-How easy was the decorating kit to use? - icing was a little difficult to squeeze for little hands, the stand was a good idea but not that sturdy.
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity? - yes, but my son got frustrated that the icing didn't come out very well so the design was not as he wanted.
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg? - yes we ate it all.
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend? - undecided. Improved icing needed and maybe some sweets to decorate the egg with.

Sonalash · 17/03/2016 21:15

My kids were very excited when the egg arrived, however, we found the icing was extremely difficult to squeeze, so we struggled to make any decent patterns or names.
They did enjoy the concept of decorating an egg but the frustration of not getting the pattern right disappointed them, but they totally loved eating the chocolate . It was gone in 20 seconds.
I would recommend this product if the icing kit gets changed and it's much easy for kids to use.

How easy was the decorating kit to use?
It was absolutely simple to use. My DC who is 16 months got it all out of the box himself and I helped him set it up. We didn't bother warming the icing after reading the comments, just rubbed it between my hands quickly. It worked brilliantly and DC, who has just begun to draw, thought it was amazing to use this.

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
Yes, I took loads of photos because he kept looking up and smiling and going back to draw some more. He also worked out that he could pipe the icing directly into his mouth! This was his one of his first tastes of chocolate, let alone piped icing so he certainly enjoyed himself.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Yes! It melted quickly in my living room which hasn't happened before with chocolate and it did taste different to what I was used to so I wondered if the receipe was different.

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
Yes, it's a cute, fun little easter activity.

Our egg arrived broken but we attempted to decorate the largest broken piece.
-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
It was easy to use but pretty useless. We followed the instructions but the icing just ran and it ended up a mess.
-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
My daughter was so excited about this but she was very disappointed when it arrived broken and the icing was rubbish. She asked why they made such a rubbish egg
-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
She enjoyed the taste of the egg
-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
No, if I had bought this I'd have been very unhappy. It was a waste of time and was pretty pathetic. There was only white icing that did not work properly. It was impossible to decorate the broken egg piece with the designs she wanted to do as it just ran everywhere.
Thanks for letting us try this.

DillieDoily · 17/03/2016 22:56

-How easy was the decorating kit to use?
Sadly our egg arrived broken so didn't get To decorate it

-Did your DCs enjoy the activity?
I think DS (age 4) would have really enjoyed it.

-Did your DC enjoy the taste of the egg?
Absolutely! Cadburys is the only brand of chocolate my very fussy DS will eat!

-Would you recommend this kit to a friend?
I'm not sure- I really like the idea of it, but TBH I think Cadburys could have done more with the concept than just one tube of white icing - how about chocolate buttons, chocolate eyes, ears, lips etc, sprinkles, sweeties, or even just other colours of icing.

pillowaddict · 18/03/2016 01:07

How easy was it to use: very! Although I'm not very creative so maybe if I was looking for more artistic detail I would have been disappointed the icing was perfect for making splodgey shapes for us!

Did dc enjoy the activity?: yes, dd (3) had great fun (while focussing on being able to eat the end product! )

Did dc enjoy the taste?: oh yes!!!

Would I recommend it?: definitely, it's nice to have an activity and egg combined as I'd normally buy one of each, and it was fun to do.
