Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

I was aware of frozen roast potatoes but had not seen this type before.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Very good. Crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and really tasty. My husband and 2 year old also enjoyed them.

Very tasty.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

I don't buy frozen roast potatoes so can't compare to other brands. They were as good as my homemade with a lot less effort, but I felt they were probably less healthy than homemade.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. I didn't realise that frozen roast potatoes could be so nice.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

I would keep a bag in the freezer but would make my own unless feeling particularly lazy.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

No I wasn't aware at all.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Yes I was they were slightly too soft on the inside but maybe I didn't cook them long enough.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

I think they are fantastic if you are not a great cook or you simply need to cook in a hurry.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

The taste was great but I do manage to make them crispier (again might have been slightly undercooked)

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely recommend them to my friends who are not the best cooks ever but I wouldn't recommend them to more advanced cooks.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

I would definitely buy them if I knew I was going to need the whole bag straight away but I did find the bag a bit hard to store in a small freezer.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
No I wasn't.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
They were quite tasty but I found them stodgy rather than fluffy. It may be that my oven is totally pants but they didn't taste fluffy like a usual roastie.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
They tasted nice but I really didn't like the inner texture. My partner and baby still ate them but my very fussy 2yr old had a bite and wouldn't finish hers.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
The shape was pretty standard and the smell while they were cooking was nice.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Probably not as I just didn't find them fluffy enough on the inside. But they were lovely and crispy on the outside.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
I'd buy them if I really needed to but I wouldn't want to serve them to guests if I didn't have to.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
no I wasn't
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
very impressed, they were exactly how I like my roast potatoes, crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside
Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
very yummy, tasted like fresh potatoes, you wouldn't know the difference
Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
I was surprised how many different shapes there were in the same bag but I liked it, it means people can pick and choose the size and shape they want for example, my 4 year old son had the smaller ones as easier for him to eat whilst my husband had the big ones
Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
yes , I would absolutely, quick and easy to cook and taste great
Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
I would definitely purchase these potatoes in the future

purplepandas · 08/03/2016 19:20

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Yes

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

They were okay. Not a patch on real roasties but okay for a day when you cannot be bothered to cook. Looked good and reasonable amount in the bag.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

I found them a bit soft as did DH. They needed more crisp on the outside. The inside was not fluffy enough. A real roastie is hard to beat and this did not come close.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

Shape was good and one of the more positive points. They looked like real roasties.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would say that they are okay for a time when you cannot be bothered to cook . I personally would not recommend for taste though, convenience only.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

Not likely at all personally. I would rather make the effort to make roasters from scratch.

THanks for the trail opportunity :)

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Yes

Very nice. Was impressed wit the flavour and texture, especially that they wern't hard in the middle and stale tasting like other frozen roasties I tried years ago.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Very tasty. Lovely cold as well!

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

Nothing like home made, but in themselves as a frzen potato produxct, lovely. Shape was fine as long as not too big or too small.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely would recommend. In fact, have already done so.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

Yes I will be buying them again as they were so easy to cook, and a lot quicker to cook than expected as well.

HALA · 08/03/2016 19:31

I was aware of the Aunt Bessie roast potatoes, but had never bought them before. However, we enjoyed them, and I think it would be great when you are too rushed to make some yourself.

I was happy with the shape, size and crispiness.

I would definitely consider buying them again.

AnnieBetts1 · 08/03/2016 19:31

The potatoes received different responses from my family. My ten year old daughter was indifferent and shrugged her shoulders and said that they were ok when asked what she thought. I'm taking that to be a luke-warm 5 out of 10. My twelve year old son was delighted with them, mainly because they were not home-made! This speaks volumes about his love for all things processed, and is possibly not the message Aunt Bessies wants to hear. I have never bought this product before and would consider buying them in the near future.

Hopelass · 08/03/2016 20:12

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Very good I was impressed

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Very tasty.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

They were better than others I have tried. One supermarket own brand and one other well known brand.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. They are quicker and easier to do than from scratch and crispier than I've ever managed to make them.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

Very likely.

sjonlegs · 08/03/2016 20:37

Q1. Yes - but I'd honestly never tried them (My hubby and I make pretty fantastic roasties)!
Q2. They were small and all quite uniform.
Q3. They were quite tasty - but not amazing. I would use them as an emergency measure, or if I was short of time, but not on a regular basis.
Q3. They were quite small and very uniform in their size and shape. They were quite tasty but still quite solid (not so light and fluffy as I'd have liked)
Q4. If friends asked about them, I'd be honest. I wouldn't recommend them per se, but I would suggest them as an easy alternative if they had timing issues. I would say that they were acceptable - but that I prefer homemade!
Q5. If I was in need then yes ... but as for the norm - I'll make my own thanks!

mylittlel · 08/03/2016 22:15

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test? I wasn't

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes? Quite a good size and taste

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes? They are quite soft inside that gives you that real feeling of eating a roast potato cooked from scratch

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase? Very good size, didnt expect them to big big enough

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? I certainly would, as potatoes are a big part of a roast dinner they compliment the dish and are of a decent size

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes? Very likely!

FPATEL · 09/03/2016 07:31
  1. I was aware of them but had never considered buying any frozen roast potatoes before.
  1. Once I opened the packet and saw the potatoes, I was a little sceptical as to how they would turn out. For my part, I had never dealt with any type of frozen potatoes before.
  1. I found the size to be perfect and once cooking, they smelt good.
  1. I would definitely recommend as they are tasty and very convenient.
  1. I will be purchasing these again. In fact, this could be a freezer staple for me as they are good as homemade and convenient.
mumsbe · 09/03/2016 08:53

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
Yes I had heard of this range before the trial

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
These potatoes were easy to cook and were light and fluffy. The kids loved them.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
10 out of 10 these potatoes are very tasty and the kids loved them. They would have had them for every meal all week.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
The shape was cut well there was a variety of sizes wich is god because my 3 year old liked the smaller ones better.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes I would because they are easy and quick to cook we had them with fish fingers and chicken nuggarts for the kids during the week and with a roast dinner at the weekend.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
Yes I would purchase these in the future simply because the kids loved them and they are a quick and simple addition to any meal.

lesley37 · 09/03/2016 09:26

Q1 yes.
Q2 we liked them very much, they were lovely and golden and crispy.
Q3 very nice just as good as homemade.
Q4 yes as they are very easy quick and convenient.
Q5 definitely.

Dianic · 09/03/2016 10:06

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Yes, I had had them before as a substitute for my own.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

They were a good size, unlike the own brand ones which are often very small and very large, so don't cook properly. These were deliciously light and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, with a definite crunch. The other pack I tried were the mini-roasties, which were more like round hash browns and not at all what I expected! (see pic)

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Very tasty indeed, but quite high in calories, probably due to the yummy coating!

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

They're a great substitute for my home made roasties when I'm short on time, but a pricey alternative.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would as they're far superior (IMHO) to the own brand supermarket ones. I can't say the same about the mini-roasties though - they look nicer then they taste! Great for a big breakfast, but not really a roast potato.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

I'd definitely buy them if I wasn't in the mood to make my own as they are delicious!

  1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen potatoes before taking part in this product test?
No, I was aware of Aunt Bessie's as a brand (Yorkshire puds) but not this particular product.

  2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
They made a good overall impression on our family. They were a lovely golden brown colour on exiting the oven. They had soft, fluffy interiors and fairly crisp exteriors although not quite the crunch that you get with home made roasties.

  3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
They had a good 'roast potato' flavour although I felt they could have been seasoned a little more - I would probably give them a light sprinkling of sea salt flakes before putting on the table.

  4. How did you find Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
When we have a roast dinner I always make homemade roast potatoes and I found Aunt Bessie's to be very similar in shape and size (fairly small) to my own. There was one errant potato in the batch - the shape of a hammerhead shark's nose - and I did wonder how that could happen, but it didn't bother me! The aroma was appetising.

  5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend them as a decent alternative to homemade roasties, when convenience is a priority.

  6. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
We have roast dinners at least every other Sunday and sometimes midweek and I would probably opt to make my own roast potatoes most of the time. However, I will keep a bag or two of Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen roast potatoes standing by in the freezer because they get top marks for convenience - speedy and no fussing about. I may also use them when I want to concentrate on more time-consuming or experimental recipes for the other vegetables/accompaniments to our roast.

WhoTheFuckIsSimon · 09/03/2016 10:19

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test? Yes, but I hadn't bought them before.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes? They were better than I thought they would be. But there's not many in a bag. I pressed by the fact they were actually quite crispy.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes? Tasted fine. Normal roast potato taste.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase? I normally make roast potatoes, these smelt the same. Shape was fine, bit smaller than I normally cut them but that's ok, just have an extra potato!

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? I would certainly recommend them if someone was in a hurry or useless at cooking.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes? Not very likely to be honest. At a weekend I would just make my own. I did originally think it might be good to have a bag in the freezer for mid week but they're more expensive than oven chips so I think if I needed some quick, convenient potato based food mid week I would just use oven chips. Might buy them if they were on offer.

BearAusten · 09/03/2016 10:22

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
No. I was aware of Aunt Bessie's other products though. Probably as a consequence that they are positioned slightly away from the majority of the other Aunty Bessie's products in the Sainsburys that I go to.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
Lovely golden colour.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
I would probably rate them average 'inside' (the inside of Aunt Bessies's thick chips are better), on the outside, crisp, delicious and very yummy. My son and, especially, my husband were very taken with them. (My husband said I was 'weird' not to appreciate them more.)

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
Loved the smell when they came out of the oven and good shape compared to the roast potatoes that I normally buy.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? I would probably recommend them. They are as good, if not better, than any roast potatoes that I have had frozen or otherwise.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
As a consequence that they went down a storm with my family and they are good value i will be buying them again.

SecretlyExcited · 09/03/2016 12:31

Q1. ) No I was not aware of this particular Aunt Bessie's product.

Q2. The roast potatoes are quite nice, one of the better frozen potatoes I have tasted. Still not as good as roast potatoes made from scratch at home though.

Q3. They cook quite well and have a better taste compared to most frozen potatoes. I could give them 4/5

Q3. The shape and aroma were could, they looked a lot more appealing than other frozen roast potatoes, but as mentioned home cooked ones from scratch still taste, look and smell better.

Q4. If someone was looking for a decent frozen roast potato I would recommend these.

Q5. I would buy these frozen roast potatoes if they were on deal for around £1 and I was in a lazy mood. I would consider buying them to save food prep time. Or if my husband was cooking I'd get him these as they are easy to cook and have a decent taste/texture.

MagentaMars · 09/03/2016 13:12

Q1. No, I wasn't aware of this product before I tested them.

Q2. I served them when we had guests over. Everyone enjoyed them, and a few even second helpings.

Q3. I don't think these roast potatoes taste quite as good as homemade, however the entire family thought they still tasted quite nice and even asked to have them again the next night. They were crispy on the outside, fluffy in the middle, and most importantly (according to DS) sopped up a good amount of gravy.

Q3. When I make homemade roasted potatoes, the size and shape is usually uniform, whereas the frozen potatoes were all different sizes. I didn't mind the variation in size. Those who liked their roasties more crisp on the outside, had the smaller ones.

Q4. I would recommend Aunt Bessie's frozen potatoes to my friends and family, especially if they are looking for a quick and simple alternative to homemade roasted potatoes.

Q5. I actually prefer to have mashed potatoes with my roast dinners. However, the rest of the family would rather have roasties, so it is extremely likely that I will buy Aunt Bessie's frozen roasted potatoes in the future, as it will mean that the rest of the family will have a chance to eat roasties on a regular basis.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Very good, definite time saver so would use occasionally during midweek, they seem comparable to chips.
Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes? They tasted good for a frozen roast potatoes.
Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase? They are very uniform! They are very chip-like but in roast potato shape, so quite different from homemade and I'm guessing home made is healthier. Nonetheless, as a time saver they are very good.
Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, very convenient and taste good
Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes? Quite likely for occasional midweek roast

4isplenty · 09/03/2016 16:43

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

I knew of them, however I had never purchased any.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

In contrast to alot of the other testers, my bag was full of alot of large potatoes (as you can see in my, before/during/after photos) not a problem for me and easier to serve on the plate.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Crispy on the outside, soft in the middle would be an accurate description. Tastewise, I can't put my finger on it, ok? But not a patch on 'real' roasters I'm sorry to say.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

I have made my own, and bought store brand roast potatoes. These are as good as store bought, and are very good. They are not better than real homemade roast potatoes, but I dont think that is the point of them.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would recommend them. In todays time short world, I personally do not have the patience to do from scratch, this product is a fantastic alternative.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

I would say very likely :)
