  1. I was aware of Aunt Bessie's Homestyle frozen roast potatoes, but never would have considered them.
  2. My overall impression of them, is surprised. I was surprised I actually liked them, as wasn't expecting much. I usually make my own roasties with goose fat, but think these would be a great alternative in the freezer.
  3. For taste, they were really nice, surprisingly.
  4. The shape and aroma were similar to normal roasties. The potatoes are a little larger than I make mine, but fine.
  5. Yes, I would recommend these. I think my mum would like them as easier for her to cook as she's a carer for my dad, so would make her life easier.
  6. Yes, I would buy these again, as convenient. My girls liked them, and their fluffiness inside.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
Yes, I was aware, I had seen them in the supermarkets previously.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
I thought they were delicious, cooked quickly, very fluffy and tasty in the middle, just the right amount of saltiness, and wonderful crisp outside, not greasy, didn't leave a greasy slick in your mouth, really good quality.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
I would rate them very highly, I've had other brands of frozen potatoes, cheaper supermarket varieties and also "luxury" duck or goose fat basted ones, but these were very tasty, nice flavour.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
I found them to be a perfect size, not too small or too large, cooked nice and evenly, great size for Sunday lunches as I could serve up two or three to the kids and a few more to the adults, and as a side with a stew or sausages, could serve a few more.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Definitely would recommend them due to their taste and crispness, the convenience of having perfect roasties without all the hassle of peeling, par boiling and roasting and not getting as nice a result. For extra special potatoes I cooked Aunt Bessie's in the juices from our need joint, they absorbed the flavour and fat brilliantly and it didn't effect their crispness.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
I would honestly buy them every time, it's one of the few products that you can buy that is better than you can make!

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

I was aware of the Aunt Bessie's brand but not this product in particular.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

They looked appetising. They were a good size and once cooked had a nice golden colour. The skin was crispy and pleasant but I found the inside slightly dry.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Both myself and my partner enjoyed the taste of the potatoes. The didn't have the thick crust of home made roast potatoes but we're better than other frozen brands I have tried.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

I thought the shape and size were good - very similar to the roast potatoes I would make myself. With regards to aroma I found they didn't give off the pleasant smell that roasties produce when they are made from scratch. There wasn't any aroma to speak of - good or bad.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would recommend to use as a quick and easy substitute. I don't feel they are better than proper homemade roast potatoes though.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

I think they would be a useful standby by to have in the freezer, so would buy them for that purpose.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
I knew that there were different potato products, but never really looked closely!

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
Very positive. We all loved them, except my youngest who doesn't even like chips, so probably not a fair test in that particular case!

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
Lovely as they are, but would be better with a tiny dash of salt.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
Shape was okay, but I normally do mine slightly longer and thinner, so the edges have more 'crunch' to them.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, as a quick and tasty alternative to making your own.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
Very likely, although we don't eat them very frequently- only usually at Christmas, as I prefer to give the children lower fat alternatives. Maybe you could do a 'lighter' low fat version?

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
I quite like them, they're fine for what they are and are convenient. Disclaimer: I'm not fussy about roast potatoes!

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
Fine, they go nicely with the rest of a roast dinner.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, for convenience - I just don't have the time and energy to make them from scratch all the time and if you're only cooking for a couple of people being able to chuck some potatoes straight in can make the difference between having them and not having them.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
Very likely, I know that they work fine for us.

Yes, I was aware of them, but had never tried them.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

They tasted lovely, the whole family really liked them.

Yes, I had spotted them in the supermarket.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Not quite as good as home roasties but tasty all the same.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

You could tell they weren't home roast potatoes as they were much smaller, and I found them quite greasy.

I would recommend them as a stand-by but not as an every day item.

thesoupdragon44 · 08/03/2016 12:46

They were great, easy to cook, tasty and perfect for a speedy mid week meal.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
They had a great taste and it would be difficult to tell them apart from potatoes cooked from scratch

Quills · 08/03/2016 13:28

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Yes to Aunt Bessie's potatoes in general, but not to this specific range of them.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

We all really enjoyed them. I was slightly sceptical as most frozen roasties we've tried before just can't compare to the real thing when it comes to texture, appearance and taste, but we all commented on the lovely golden colour. They were crispy outside and fluffy inside, just as we wanted them, and when we cooked the second bag in the juices of the roast chicken for Sunday dinner, they were just as good as any homemade ones we've had before.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Delicious. I'd definitely recommend using goose fat or meat juices if you're cooking a roast at the same time, but even just with a splash of vegetable oil we all happily ate them (myself, DH, and DD7 and DD1).

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

They weren't uniform in shape, which meant the bigger ones weren't cooked as well as the others, but I suppose that gives them the homemade sense! Aroma wise, perhaps they weren't quite the same as homemade, but certainly better than other frozen brands we've tried.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes - easy, reasonably priced and very tasty.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

Very likely, it made cooking the roast dinner less time consuming without compromising on taste.

tandt5 · 08/03/2016 13:58

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?
I heard of them and seen in the shop but I haven't tried them before the product test.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
My overall impressions are mainly positive, it is very convenient to have in the freezer and easy and straightforward to cook.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?
I would rate them 4 out of 5, my husband's homemade roasties are impossible to beat. My cooking skills however are not that great and kids would definitely prefer Aunt Bessie’s to my own creations. Speaking about the kids' impressions, I have to mention they both loved them and my 5year old daughter compared them to a cloud, soft and fluffy and very tasty, and it's a high praise from my fussy eater.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?
I loved the uniform size and overall shape and look both in frozen and cooked form. I would prefer them to be crisper on the outside but I suppose I could try to leave them a bit longer in the oven next time.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend it for an easy midweek option for the family (not for a special occasion, Christmas, guests, etc.) from the point of convenience and based on the seal of approval from my family.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
I would like to have a pack of them in the freezer, so yes I would buy them again.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test? Yes I'd seen them advertised.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase? Shape is good, quite uniform and easy to cook the batch at the same time. I think my own roast potatoes in goose fat take some beating but I only do them about 6 -10 times a year.

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would recommend, they are an excellent stand by product to keep in the freezer and they provide a lovely safety net for my brain.

Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

no, but i'd've assumed that frozen roast potatoes existed

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

i wanted to like them but they weren't really like roast potatoes, flavour and texture wise they were more like a potato smiles type thing. the main thing that puts me off is 30min cooking time, it's too long to count as quick freezer food to shut the kids up

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

not bad, the batter is quite seasoned

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

very small, didn't seem to smell much

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

only to someone who couldn't or wouldn't make their own roast potatoes, there's nothing awful about them, but real ones are better

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

no, i'd make them or buy a different frozen potato product

Thanks, MNHQ

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test

No, I'd not heard of them.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Surprised! I'm not a fan of aunt Bessie's yorkshires as they always taste "fake" to me. These were a nice texture inside and out.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

Very good. Not quite as good as the real thing - I like a very crunchy texture but they're a good quick and easy fix. Not greasy in taste at all.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

Whilst they aren't as good as home made, these come close. They smell lovely when cooking. They're potato shape Grin

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, to people I know who avoid cooking roasts or have time constraints.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?
Possibly, especially if they were on offer. Obviously they are expensive compared to a bag of spuds, but I may well pay for the convenience on occasion!

JulesJules · 08/03/2016 17:40

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

Yes great taste, superior to other brands and time saving for a midweek treat.

Q1. I Have always bought aunt bessies roast potatoes as they are perfect in taste and texture.

Q3. Ok so you can't beat homemade roast potatoes but ad an alternative these are lovely. More like the chips in taste the roast but still yummy.
Q4. I would definitely recommend to friends /family. They save a lot of time and are great to have with meals through out the week.
Q5. I will be buying these all the time to stock up my freezer for the mid week meals.

Q1. Were you aware of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes before taking part in this product test?

Not really. I was aware of the Aunt Bessie's brand, but associated it only with yorkshires puds and pies. While looking for this product in Sainsbury's I saw your other frozen potato products.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

I thought they were comparable with the Lidl goose fat roast potatoes I'd ordinarily buy (though yours have a higher price point). I didn't find that they had enough salt. They also took longer to cook than expected - at least 45 minutes to be uniformly crispy, and a number of them stuck badly to the baking tray after cooking, which was disappointing. The internal texture wasn't great - powdery rather than fluffy.

Q3. In terms of taste, how would you rate Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes?

They were comparable with the Lidl goose fat roast potatoes I'd ordinarily buy, though I'd have liked them to be a bit saltier.

Q3. How did you find Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes in terms of shape and aroma, compared to typical roast potatoes you make/purchase?

They were a perfect size, not too small or too large and cooked evenly - great!

Q4. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes to friends/family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I doubt it. I'd recommend the Aunt Bessie's brand overall, but these frozen roast potatoes wouldn't really merit a recommendation.

Q5. In future, how likely are you to consider purchasing Aunt Bessie’s Homestyle frozen roast potatoes if you were in need of roast potatoes?

These are definitely better than I would make at home, but I'd probably stick to other frozen roast potatoes or try a few other brands. I'm happy with the price, but the quality, taste and extra time needed to cook these would put me off.
