This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out DisneyLife.

Here’s what DisneyLife has to say, “We’re so excited to launch DisneyLife, which will give the whole family access to its biggest collection of Disney and DisneyPixar movies, Disney Channels TV box sets, books, and music, in one place. Designed to be enjoyed at home or on the go as an iOS or Android app for tablet or mobile, DisneyLife will create magical moments for the family to share: from sing-a-long songs on the way to school; to movie nights at home; children’s TV shows on the move; and enchanting bedtime stories to read with Mum and Dad. For one monthly price of £9.99, DisneyLife will give you instant access to stream thousands of Disney Channels TV episodes, hundreds of movies, albums, and books – plus a free download every month from a selection of fun Disney apps. We’d love to know what Mumsnetters think about the new offering"

Check out our bloggers review of DisneyLife in the new video:

PS. I tried filming Ds but it was more of a reaction towards the poor quality of the app and casting problems rather than the actual movie scenes so I'm sorry no video from us even though we tried. Captured his emotional moments while watching Lion King but to be honest it was on Netflix as the app kept getting stuck while casting on TV and we do t let kids watch full movies on tablets, it has to be on tv.

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
I have 2 dd age 4 and 8, they both had access to it via an iphone.
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?

I set it up on mine and oldest dd phone and to be honest I left her to it! my youngest used it on my phone and I would log it in and she seemed again to be able to manage it herself.

  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
oldest dd watched Disney channel - Jessie and good luck Charlie. she would watch them if there was something she didn't like on tv at that time or if the youngest was watching something else.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

oldest dd liked what was on there, and has been watching fairly regularly. youngest has not seemed so bothered, although she will watch things on it she does not ask too much.

  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?

My hope in testing it was to see whether we could drop our expensive sky subscription (which seems mainly to be used for Disney junior and Disney channel) in favour of this. The main issue was though we couldn't seem to stream it to the TV and so this is not an option. I probably would not renew the trial subscription purely to access on phones / ipad as i dont want dd to use them any more than they do already. Although I would possible do on an ad hoc basis if for example we were on holiday somewhere with wifi to use it.

  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Probably not at the moment as it does not seem to offer a lot I cannot get elsewhere (at least when at home) for the price.

Thank you for the opportunity to test it though - I am sure there will be moaning from oldest when the subscription comes to an end!

My favourite Disney film is beauty and the beast. It makes me laugh and cry on equal measure. Gaston's 'I use antlers in all of decorating' line makes me laugh every time. Mrs Potts and chip are wonderful... I could go on and on!

Ledkr · 24/01/2016 07:50

Does anyone know what we have to do to end the trial and not get money taken out of our bank accounts like weight watchers did

My 2yo joined me in trialling Disney life

I found it easy to sign up & the site was relatively easy to navigate

We watched a few movies. I was a bit disappointed that for £9.99 a month, the biggest hit Frozen isn't on there. I think the range on offer is otherwise ok - lots of things I didn't realise were Disney.

I would probably get a bit more value out of it with an older child, but regardless, I think that it is quite a costly product - especially given that we already have a number of the DVDs anyway & the Disney channel on Sky.

I'm not sure I would recommend it based on its cost - for me it doesn't add enough extra to what we already have.

Patfola · 26/01/2016 00:03

I absolutely LOVE disneylife. Very intuitive to get around and I was easily able to find suitable things for my 2 year old to watch.

Patfola · 26/01/2016 00:04

Definitely nostalgic about Disney movies as I grew up on them. A bitsadFrozen isn't available ask haventwaitched it but there's loads to watch besides

Patfola · 26/01/2016 00:06

My two year old was scared watching quite a few of the Disney movies so we've resorted to shows like the Disney clubhouse instead. She's hooked. Not sure at £10a month I could justify this subscription yet but I'm working on it!

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

Did 6 and dd3 tested the Disney life.

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?

It wasn't great, it kept throwing you out of the app, so we had to re sign in most times. The music section asked you to download the songs, but they didn't seem to download. Films etc seemed okay. Having to download further apps for games was faffy.

  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
Usual princess films went down well.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
Good range f content and lots of tv programmes I'd not seen before.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
It seemed a great idea, but all the kicking out and having to download other stuff was a pain. Didn't seem as simple as other streaming channels. It is really expensive at 9.99 a month.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
It was expensive, the app has problems. I could watch get most from you tube or Netflix free of much cheaper.
PeppaPigStinks · 26/01/2016 15:35

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
DD who is 4 and DS who is 2
- How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
The app is quite easy to use - but i had difficulties setting up profiles, so ended up just using the one.
Logging in every time is a faff, and I would say it has been the biggest barrier to it not being used by the children. They tend to pick up the ipad when its lying around and slect through age appropriate apps (ie cbeebies). Because they havent been instantly able to access it, they haven't used it.
Setting up the account was more trouble than it was worth! However, the email support was prompt and helpful and finally managed to get us connected.
- Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
DD enjoyed the Doc McStuffins stuff as we dont have access to that.

My DS liked choosing the characters from the films to see the content.
For me the biggest USP of Disney life was the books. The books are good and i like that they colour the words as they are read - however, its all american. So the pronunciation of words is different. This was important to me as DD is in foundation and learning phonics/learning to read.

- What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
The range of content is good. I dont recall seeing any games/puzzles so it might benefit from this.
- What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
As a one off payment app i would possibly stretch to it, but for £10 a month I cannot justify the cost. For that we could buy a few books/DVD!
I could however, see using the app outside of the house as useful so you can watch films. we dont take the ipad out of the house though.
- Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
No - its a faff to set up, a faff to log in each time, and £10 a month is an awful lot of money.

Cosmochicklitan · 27/01/2016 11:56

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife? My 3 year old daughter.

How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife? Extremely easy. Even my little one is able to start the app herself and navigate to where she wants to go.

Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these? Her most favourite by far is the Frozen Fever episode. She must have watched this at least 50 times already. She also really enjoys the Micky Mouse Club House episodes. We started watching The Little Mermaid, but she bored of it after a little while. Short clips and episodes are much better for her.

What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife? Fantastic choice of different films. I very much liked that you can choose between different lengths of film.

What was your overall impression of DisneyLife? Amazing product. I am much happier letting my little one explore this app, instead of watching bizarre youtube videos.

Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, definitely. Hours of fantastic entertainment for little ones.

Cataline · 27/01/2016 12:52

I tested DisneyLife with my 8 year old son who LOVES it. He's not been a huge Disney up to now but this seems to have transformed him into one!

He's really enjoyed watching films - particularly Aladdin and the Lion King and the sequels to these. He's also explored the soundtracks to some films.

He was very excited to discover Gravity Falls and watched the first season of this on his laptop. He was very cross to discover that the second season wasn't available via DisneyLife and said to tell you that's "rubbish".

I've used DisneyLife to show clips to my pupils in a small class of younger SEN pupils and they very much enjoyed getting to see Frozen Fever for Golden time last week.

I had thought that there were links to interactive storybooks but haven't been able to locate them. Navigation is a bit of an issue- not very user friendly I found. My son would disagree as he seems to find things easily!

I've told loads of people about DisneyLife and how good it is although we all seem to agree that £10 a month is quite costly. £5-£7 would seem more reasonable. Although my son would love to continue using it, I don't think I can justify that cost once the free trial ends.

Thanks for the chance to try it out!

Figurine · 28/01/2016 11:12

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
My 4 yr old daughter joined me in testing DisneyLife.

How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
It was very easy for me and my daughter was able to use it herself under supervision on the iPad.

Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
She loved the Disney classics, especially the little mermaid, Cinderella, lady and the tramp and the aristocats. She also really enjoyed the tv shows, jake and the never land pirates and doc mscstuffins.

What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
I felt it was great, as did my daughter. However I also felt that as we have sky tv and Netflix as well as a fairly complete Disney DVD collection that there wasn't much in the way of new content that my daughter was overly interested in. I do think if she was older this would not be the case.

What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
It was very good, my dd has a broken leg at the moment so it has been very helpful in keeping her occupied.

Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would mention it but not recommend it. I feel the monthly price is too much for what there is in terms of content although I think the idea is great.

leanneth · 28/01/2016 20:23

I'm a Non tester but love Disney! We have a pile of Disney DVDs but my favourite has to be beauty and the beast: be our guest- just magical and catchy!

Although frozen is amazing as well, I particularly like the songs from the film too.

KateOxford · 29/01/2016 22:06

We recently went to Disneyland Paris, this has brought Disney to life for me. My favourite moment was watching Disney dreams over the castle to "let it go" my daughter couldn't stop saying she loved Elsa. It really was magical and beautiful. I actually found it very moving, the music and imagery was very, very clever. For me now hearing the music from Frozen brings back very happy memories.

PrincessAisha2015 · 02/02/2016 07:25

Non testers- my fav disney moment was 2010 on a trip to Disneyland Paris for my nephews 1-th birthday- how his face glowed when we visited the Disney Park and the lovely Santa Fe hotel we stayed in!

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

My 6 year old DS , 14 year old DSD and one very big C (me!!!)

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?

Bit of a faff! It kept logging me out and I had to keep logging back in. I was really pleased to test it as I was hoping it would make a mega trip to the family a bit easier! But DC's were gutted the newer films weren't available on the app (they wanted to watch inside out!!) it took quite some time for things to download so didn't get as much on as I could have done.

  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?

They watched the Incredibles, Monsters University, Phineas and Ferb, and the Cars films

  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

Not as good as I expected, the films are the older ones, with none of the newer ones the kids really wanted to see. The books were very good, DS really enjoyed the read along books

  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?

Expensive for what it is at £9.99 a month. You could get the majority of that content online (Netflix etc) a lot cheaper.

  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Not really, it's too expensive at that price for the content that is there. I would expect the latest films and a really all singing all dancing app for £9.99 a month!😁😁

PseudoBadger · 05/02/2016 18:47

I wanted to update my feedback as I experienced a nightmare logging in the other day - it didn't work (just went back to the home page without logging in) over and over for ages (no fun when a 2 year old is desperate for it!)

CheeseandGherkins · 05/02/2016 21:25

All of my children tested this app. This was my 13, now 4 and 2 year old daughters', and my 12 and now 9 year old sons'.

Very easy to use and install, nothing to fault, everything worked as expected.

Several of the Disney films; Jungle Book and Cinderella, also Doc McStuffin. Largely watched films and shows that they already enjoyed on other platforms - Sky, Netflix, etc. We enjoyed them as usual.

There was a lot more content that I expected. Lots for the children to enjoy, I was pleasantly impressed.

We really enjoyed the content and being able to consume them across multiple apps/platforms. We were disappointed that there was no app available for my youngest daughters tablet (Amazon Fire for Kids). I called customer services regarding this but the gentleman in the other end didn't really have a clue what I was talking about...

I would recommend the service to anyone that has children that didn't have a subscription to any other service. I think a lot of the content is already available elsewhere which reduces the value of the service substantially.

The Lion King, and this quote specifically (I can't actually watch it without tearing up!):

"Look at the stars. The great kings of the past look down on us from those stars. So whenever you feel alone, just remember that those kings will always be there to guide you. And so will I"

Cue hysterical crying Grin

littlemouse15 · 10/02/2016 00:54

I love Disneys lion king. Particularly simbas song 'can't wait to be king' it reminds me of being younger and desperately wanting to grow up thinking I would be able to do anything and I would be brilliant at being an adult! He is so clueless and optimistic about becoming king. And when I was young so was I and all the adults said 'you don't want to grow up yet' but I did and now I'm going to Be the one telling my kids the same thing! O to be young clueless and carefree! Hakunamatata

Ratbagcatbag · 10/02/2016 10:16

Non tester here.

I've always loved Disney and think some of the Disney/Pixar combos are the best there is.
I've just introduced my dd (3) to more and more Disney (to get away from frozen) and she is so in love with lion king at the moment, we have to watch it everyday and we are singing hakkunamata in the car all the time. She laughs out loud when pumba is stuck and she talks about that part a lot. (And well as meany uncle scar). It's lovely to be able to sit with her and watch them together.
I have loads of personal favourite Disney moments, but in Up where they both sit at the kerb at the end makes me tear up every time.
