This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out DisneyLife.

Here’s what DisneyLife has to say, “We’re so excited to launch DisneyLife, which will give the whole family access to its biggest collection of Disney and DisneyPixar movies, Disney Channels TV box sets, books, and music, in one place. Designed to be enjoyed at home or on the go as an iOS or Android app for tablet or mobile, DisneyLife will create magical moments for the family to share: from sing-a-long songs on the way to school; to movie nights at home; children’s TV shows on the move; and enchanting bedtime stories to read with Mum and Dad. For one monthly price of £9.99, DisneyLife will give you instant access to stream thousands of Disney Channels TV episodes, hundreds of movies, albums, and books – plus a free download every month from a selection of fun Disney apps. We’d love to know what Mumsnetters think about the new offering"

Check out our bloggers review of DisneyLife in the new video:

Non tester here. My favourite Disney moment is in Dumbo when the stork delivers baby Dumbo to Mrs Jumbo. When the other elephants start mocking Dumbo's big ears, the love and tenderness Mrs Jumbo shows him breaks my heart.

I think I have something in my eye...

I think my absolutely favourite moment is in the Aristocats when you see Duchess and Tom sitting on the roof with their tails twined together, it's just lovely

I think Disney does 'gentle' romance very well - I love the way the humans are always 'Jim, dear' and 'Darling' in Lady and the Tramp. Bella Notte is absolutely gorgeous too, especially when the choir starts.

Tester:

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
Dd1 (almost 6) and DD2 (4)
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Fairly easy, but as others have mentioned it sometimes signs you out unlike other apps like Netflix or Amazon which meant my DDs couldn't simply turn it on for themselves. Also if I played music on my phone if they were in the bath for example, it would only play if the app was selected and would stop if I put it in the background, unlike apps like Spotify so not great for my sanity... Another point others have said is that as we watched on iOS we didn't have the option to stream to the tv so was more difficult to watch as a family.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
They watched all of the shorts which they enjoyed, they watched some of the sequels, they have seen most of the originals so weren't that interested. They watched some of the series such as Sofia the first. They also tried one or two if the stories.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
I did not feel there was a great deal of original content meaning content unavailable elsewhere. As the girls already have access to alot if the originals that we bought on Dvd, some of the programmes on Netflix, some of the music on Spotify and series on the Disney channels it didn't leave a lot of additional options.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
It's a nice app but far too expensive considering that we already have access via other apps to alot of content, also I'm unsure (as we only used it for 10 days so far) how much of the content is updated each month (like Netflix). If there are few updates then I do not think it would retain interest for more than a few months and I would not use it long term.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Only if they did not have access via other apps etc (Netflix, Disney channel, DVDs) and probably not for the price.

My daughter and I love Tangled! I think it's better than Frozen. We're excited to go to Disney World Florida in a couple of years too!!

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife? - 2yo DTDs
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife? Found the registration really difficult - I had an account that was linked to it, I think via the disneystore or Disneyland and couldn't remember the details. Got there in the end though!
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? Frozen Fever
  • What did you and your DCs think of these? They liked it; I liked the change from normal Frozen!
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife? Good - wide choice and the girls will try things they hadn't otherwise.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife? I find it really annoying that you have to log in to the app each time. It would also be good if there was a way for it to work better on a smart TV. It was great on the way back from Disneyland with two fractious two year olds who had watched everything on the iPad and meant I could find something for them to watch in an emergency entertainment situation.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? I think so, but the app log out does annoy me. We already have subscriptions to Netflix and Amazon Prime, so I'm not sure if we'd have another one.
Miaow1234 · 02/01/2016 19:37

My daughter 4 used.
My daughter found relatively easy to use. Annoying that it keeps signing out though as it meant I had to keep signing in for her to access.
My daughter listened to music and watched Cinderella and Peter Pan. Even though she had access to watch on iPad she hardly used, possibly because we have a lot on DVDs already.
I wasn't impressed by content, didn't feel there was anything special on there for me to pay £9.99 a month and £9.99 is pretty steep when people are paying for Netflix etc... already.
I was excited to get disneylife but v disappointed when we looked at content.
I wouldn't recommend to anyone unless was cheaper.

I have a few favourite Disney Pixar moments - I love love love Toy Story, especially in the second film when they are crossing the road using the cones, Slinky uses 2 and Mr Potato Head gets stuck in chewing gum - makes me laugh every time!

Tangled has special memories as my nephew (then about 3 yrs) and I would snuggle under a blanket in the early hours of the morning watching this, a favourite of ours at the time, and he would go totally silent and stare at the screen when the tower first comes on and her 'mum' travels up using the hair. I loved seeing his little face watching then. :)

And finally I will always remember same nephew (now 6!) watching Frozen and loving the Let it Go scene, when Elsa makes her castle and her dress changes and he always says - "she is more beautifuller now".

I like the "girl power" archery scene in Brave - where Merida shoots her arrow and splits the previous arrow right down the middle.
Also love all the Tinker Bell films - particularly when she meets Periwinkle for the first time and they discover why their wings glow!

Tester Here. We have had the app running for 2 weeks now.

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
So far out of my 4 aged 8-2, my 4 year old had used it the most. The others have glanced but not been all that interested as we can only get it on my iPad and we have every other imaginable streaming service on the TV that they prefer.
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
I found it very easy to navigate and use myself but my 4yo needed help to get videos to play when he'd selected them.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
We've watched all the shorts which we all really enjoyed, especially as there were a few we hadn't seen before. The films didn't impress us that much as with have the DVDs or they're on Netflix etc. We haven't watched any TV programmes.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
I think it's good but can see room for improvement. We were quite excited that Brave may be there and it isn't. For us to continue using the service after the trial period we'd expect an update.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, but only if they need access to the content away from home or don't have a good stick of films already.

Overall we like the app, but I think it needs to half in price to provide value for money. There is precious little available that you can't access on Netflix/Amazon prime or YouTube.
We also had an absolute nightmare setting it up, it took 3 long phone calls to resolve. The lady who dealt with it all was brilliant, polite and and extremely helpful but I can see the process putting people off.
We haven't tried the books or music as we prefer paper books and don't really do music at home.

EssexKate · 03/01/2016 09:39

Hello, a tester here

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
My 4 year old daughter
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
It was very easy to set up the account, download app and start using. There is a lot of contents on there, but it isn't always obvious how to navigate to something you are looking for. My daughter quickly learnt the icons for films, tv shows and music and explored clicking on images of programmes and characters she recognised. A lot of the programmes advertised further up the page are for older children (e.g. Hannah Montana) and it would be good if you could filter it a bit more to make the younger persons content (e.g. Disney Junior) more obvious. Having said that my daughter was happy and would stay on it for hours if she could. It's easy to download content and easy to find them when off line. I didn't always find what I expected when I searched for something specific, but I don't know if that is the content or the search function

As a few other people have mentioned it isn't ideal having to log in each time, but my details aren't always asked for (e.g. this morning I just clicked on profile and it went in?)

  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
My daughter has mostly been watching contents she is already familiar with e.g. Disney Junior programmes (she is currently watching Jake and the Neverland Pirates) as well as Frozen Fever. She's also exploring some of the tv show's created from films e.g. the Little Mermaid. We haven't watched any films yet as I prefer her to watch on a bigger screen that the iPad.

There are a lot of films on there for adults too, things wouldn't realise are disney. I might watch Sweet Home Alabama later...

We also download the Sophia the First colouring app which is quite fun for my daughter.

We haven't listened to much music yet.

  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

There is so much content available on DisneyLife it will takes weeks to explore what is there. I have tried searching for contents and found it isn't there, so the best approach seems to be to explore and try and find something new. Having said that most of the old favourites are there.

It will be interesting to see how contents is updated over time and if it is obvious what has been added e.g. when new series of a particular programme is added.

I think the only area we won't use much is books. When we sit down to read I would rather do it from an actual book (there is no option for the app to read it to you so my daughter has to be read to).

  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
I think i need to get an iPad with more storage so I can download a lot more content for journeys. It is great that you can download the app to so many devices and stream from 4 at a time. We don't need that many, but would be great for families of all sizes.

I really enjoy DisneyLife, it is great for Disney fans of all ages. My biggest problem is going to be limiting my daughter's screen time.

On the downside I would like to be able to watch via my tv (I'm sure there is tech savvy way of doing this) and a few times the app seems to be a bit slow. I've had to teach my daughter that when the buffering circle appears she just needs to wait (this happens when contents is loading, not experienced during programmes. Large programmes/ films can take a little while). My internet is a good speed and I don't normally have problems, but I don't know if the speed is due to DisneyLife or my internet.

  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I would recommend Disney Life to any disney fans. We have Sky and can watch a lot of the contents (films and tv programmes) via that so I will need to consider carefully whether it is worth the £9.99 a month at the end of the trial. I like that with DisneyLife: my daughter can explore the contents herself (we have to find it for her with Sky), everything is there and available (no waiting to download), that you can download contents to take on the move (we normally do this with iPlayer) and that there is music too.

I just asked my daughter if she liked DisneyLife and she jumped up and down and said "It's great".

Favourite moment, possibly - the bit in Frozen where Christoph tells Anna he doesn't trust her judgement: "Who marries a man they just met?!"

  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
Me, my 4 year old daughter and my partner tested DisneyLife
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Easy as pie to use. I downloaded the app on my iPhone and also accessed it via my laptop as well (t see how it compared) I did find that it crashed a couple of times on the the iPhone but no more than any other app I have ever used
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
We watched all her favourite programs- Jake and the Neverland Pirates, Sofia the First and Doc Mcstuffins. She also started to watch Bunnytown (which we haven't seen on Disney Junior before). Also went through a selection of the films (that we didn't already have upstairs :P)
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
I liked that it had a large variety of the Disney films and TV shows old and new. The thing that we used the most was the books. My daughter is learning to read and loved the read along books. They were great for bedtime and winding down time. It also gave you a free Disney app each month
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
I will be continuing with my subscription. It has a large variety of films and shows and also has educational value too with the books (I know...I'm a buzzkill lol) Only problem was a couple of crashes but this is expected with any app that requires internet access
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would definitely recommend this. As I said before, I will be continuing with my subscription. The reason I wanted to try this is because I currently pay for Sky and only ever seem to take advantage of the Disney Channels (Junior, XD and Disney Channel). I will happily go to freeview and pay for this monthly. We love Disney and this is a great addition to the Disney franchise.
sealight123 · 03/01/2016 18:26

Non-testers question: What is your favourite Disney or Pixar moment?
My favourite Disney Pixar moment is in Toy Story (I even remember seeing it for the first time as a kid)
When they are at Pizza Planet and land in 'the claaaaawww' machine. (I bet you read that in the little aliens voices :P)

The sheer delight on Mowgli's face when he joins in the elephant parade in The Jungle Book is my favourite moment. I remember enjoying seeing it on the Disney clip programs they used to show on TV on Bank Holidays. Now I love hearing my children giggle as they enjoy the same moment.

NON-TESTER

Our favourite Disney pixar moment is Inside Out. My dw and me watched it one night when our dd's were staying with grandma. The beginning just made us look at each other and say 'that's exactly like dd'. I then looked over at my dw later in movie and she was crying, the storyline really spoke to her. We love the movie and glad to say dd's love it too.

snowymum12 · 04/01/2016 11:30

Q1) My daughter, aged 3, joined me in testing Disney Life.
Q2) She found the site really easy to navigate by herself.
Q3) She has watched 'Frozen Fever' lots of times and has listened to the Frozen soundtrack. However, most of the other films she likes are already on Netflix so she preferred to watch them on the TV rather than via the ipad.
Q4) I quite like the range of content, especially the ebooks. As far as films are concerned, Netflix is probably better in my opinion. She really wanted to watch Frozen via the app too and this isn't available.
Q5) I thought Disneylife was ok but not as good as I expected. I think it's expensive too when compared to other streaming services (and I can't link my ipad to the SmartTV either so it isn't as versatile.)
Q6) As other testers have said, if you don't already have Sky/Netflix etc then this is quite good but it is expensive in comparison and more difficult to link to the TV.

My favourite moment is the boat scene in tangled where all the lanterns start floating up and around them. So magical!

HaveTeaWillSurvive · 04/01/2016 20:39

- Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
DS who is 3

- How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Pretty easy to set up, I didn't have a Disney account before so had no issues setting one up and logging in. I've found the app to be a little slow when using it - eg thumbnails take a while to appear - our broadband isn't the greatest but it's not something I've noticed with Netflix or Amazon prime.

- Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
We love Disney so had already seen a lot of the movies but he enjoyed looking at the extras in the character worlds, mainly for us on the lion king and also all the Good Dinosaur clips. He also found at he music section and had a great time in there, we all had to dance to high school musical!

- What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
It's really very good, there's loads in there and in different formats.

- What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
It's a very content rich app with lots to look at but may suit slightly older children. My DS was just a bit young for some of the content and seemed to find it hard to navigate for himself. It was great having the different media formats such as books and music which got us more jointly involved as a family.

- Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family?
I would certainly recommend it as an option, particularly to those with children in the 5-10 age range. The subscription isn't insignificant but you are getting a lot of content for that and it's all child appropriate, however as someone with sky go, Netflix and Amazon prime already I probably can't personally justify this as well. It would be good if you could have varying levels of subscription or short term access.
