This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out DisneyLife.

Here’s what DisneyLife has to say, “We’re so excited to launch DisneyLife, which will give the whole family access to its biggest collection of Disney and DisneyPixar movies, Disney Channels TV box sets, books, and music, in one place. Designed to be enjoyed at home or on the go as an iOS or Android app for tablet or mobile, DisneyLife will create magical moments for the family to share: from sing-a-long songs on the way to school; to movie nights at home; children’s TV shows on the move; and enchanting bedtime stories to read with Mum and Dad. For one monthly price of £9.99, DisneyLife will give you instant access to stream thousands of Disney Channels TV episodes, hundreds of movies, albums, and books – plus a free download every month from a selection of fun Disney apps. We’d love to know what Mumsnetters think about the new offering"

Check out our bloggers review of DisneyLife in the new video:

Non tester and another vote for "I'm surrounded by idiots "

I also love Meg's song in Hercules.

Can I change my mind?
Just watching live action Cinderella with DD and I think my new favourite line is "I can't drive, I'm a goose."

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
DD1-8, DD2-6 & DS1-2

- How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
It was a little tricky to set up but once I was registered it is simple to use. I like it that you can set different profiles. It is annoying it does not remember your log in details and you have to insert them all the time. The DC were able to pick it up fairly easy and look through the content.

  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
The girls are very much into Disney princess so watched a lot of the films we already have.* *They really liked the books especially as these are easily downloadable for later and they are not very patient. Could not find anything that caught DS'S attention but that's more to do with his age.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
There is a lot of content but I am not sure it's worth £9.99 a month. I would sign up and use it for a month maybe if I were going on holiday as this would occupy them in the car etc.. I could not see myself renewing a monthly subscription on a rolling basis. We have recently cancelled a Netflix subscription which the girls used a lot this as yet is not as well used.

- What was your overall impression of DisneyLife? It was really good but it is quite expensive given the range of this type of service out there. Although it gas s lot of programmes just Disney is limited and therefore it's not worth £9.99 a month. It would be good on smart tv as an app to further make use of it.
*

  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? *
I would recommend to friends and family as it does contain a lot of stuff and to sign up during a school holiday or for a long journey is a great way to use the app.

My fave Disney moment is the jungle book when the elephants do the parade and the little one walks I the bottom of the others. Still laugh out loud 26 years later!!!

eloquentlyineffable · 17/01/2016 17:32

Non-tester!

My favourite moment definitely has to be during Tangled when Rapunzel and Flynn are in the boat on the lake watching the lanterns together, such a pretty and emotional scene!

TheyreMadITellYouMaaaad · 17/01/2016 18:26

It has to be Toy Story 3, when the toys are sliding into the incinerator. No fuss, no cheesy melodrama, just holding onto each other. Dd and I were sobbing in each other's arms, really could not tell her that it would all be OK as I found it a totally believable scene.

So hard to pick a favourite but I'd have to say it's the moment in Aladdin where the genie realises he's free. Most of my other favourites aren't so profound - they're usually funny bits or amazing music, but I don't think you can beat seeing someone realise they're free!

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

My 6 year old daughter has used DisneyLife, my 8 year old son has briefly looked at it.

How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?

I found it really easy to use. Was extremely simple to set up and account and log in and you can add users so each individual can log in via their name.

Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?

My daughter has watched a variety of different films on DisneyLife, all of which she has enjoyed. She has also read some books too, which is brilliant as she has just joined the free reading programme at school.

What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

The range of content for my 6 year old is excellent; however, my 8 year old wasn't interested at all. That's not to say it is too young for him, I think if you like Disney then DisneyLife is suitable for adults too he just isn't overly keen on Disney anymore.

What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?

My overall impression of DisneyLife is good. I found it easy to set up, my 6 year can use it with no problem so it is definitely user friendly. I like the free app idea but if I was paying for this would like there to be more than one a month available to download.

Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I think it's a good idea if you don't have access to the Disney channels via your TV package at home, however I personally wouldn't pay £9.99 a month for this as I do have these and a lot of the films and TV programmes are available via my package. The extra things like the books aren't worth the money when you can go to a library for free or access and download books for free on line through various different methods. If I could pay a one off fee for the option to download some films for a long journey then I would consider this. I would only recommend DisneyLife to people that didn't have Sky/Virgin etc TV packages. If they had those then I wouldn't recommend it.

MimsyBorogroves · 18/01/2016 13:55

A month on now...neither of my boys is particularly bothered about watching anything now that they've seen the "shorts" they wanted to and DS2 has read through the books. Is new content going to be added regularly?

SerenaVanDerWoodsen · 18/01/2016 14:18

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
My 4yo DD mainly. The 18 month old listened to the odd story book but didn't really sit still long enough.

How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Honestly, it was a nightmare to set up. Despite getting emails saying I had registered with both Disney and Disney Life, it would not let me sign in. I had to ring customer services and it took them some time to sort out the problem. An hour of my life I will not get back Angry
Overall the app is easy to use and quite user friendly. I found that the books weren't clearly labelled - it was hard to identify which would be suitable for my DD to read herself and which were more complex for me to read to her or be listened to. Also it was a bit confusing which items could be downloaded and which could not. It would be good if this was clear from the menu, as I wanted to quickly download something to save on the iPad for when we went out and I had to keep going in and out until I found something suitable. Subsequently, we have mainly used it directly on the iPad or streamed to the tv (via Apple TV which we already had). It was easy to use via Apple TV.

Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? We watched a few films, which my daughter enjoyed (and to be honest they were available via Sky movies which we also have). She watched some of the Doc McStuffins programmes and Frozen Fever and read quite a few of the audio books and read it yourself books.

What did you and your DCs think of these?
They were all good. I found it a bit annoying that a lot of the books didn't seem to be downloadable, as this would have been great for car journeys and keeping her occupied at appointments etc.

What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
As expected really although I though there would be more games and activities. I liked the books but as stated earlier, I would have liked the level of difficulty to be more clearly identified in the menu.

What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
It's quite a handy app to have on your iPad. My DD enjoyed using it but after the first week or so, she's not been overly fussed about using it. Perhaps this is because she can access the majority of what was offered via Sky tv.

Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I think at the cost per month, I would probably not recommend it unless you do not have another tv subscription, such as Sky or Netflix. It would be useful for holidays but it would work out cheaper to buy films or programmes from iTunes rather than pay £10 per month.

ekt55 · 18/01/2016 16:38

Non-tester: so many scenes to choose from! But I think some of my favourites are the scenes with Pain and Panic in (in Hercules)

MagicAlwaysLeadsToTrouble · 18/01/2016 21:49
  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

DD1 (4) and DD2 (2)

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife

The actual format and layout of the app is easy to use though I do feel like it tricks you into thinking there is more content than there really is. The same films are accessed via several categories (in films and via characters) very annoying to have to repeatedly log in.

  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?

Mostly films we already have on DVD tbh though liked some of the shorts like frozen freezer and the Minnie Mouse ones. They enjoyed the novelty and selecting what show they wanted though they did tend to go for films they already know as we have watched at home

  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

Good but not enough exclusive content. Repeats a lot of what we own already.

  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?

Nice for something a bit different but we still tend to default to Netflix which also has a lot of Disney content.

  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

No, it seems expensive and repetitive.

flixybelle · 18/01/2016 22:25

which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

Both my dds age 5 and 8

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Not very easy at all, it was a pain to set up took me 3 days and several emails though the customer support was very good.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
We watched Tangled, Frozen Fever, The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
I wasn't massively impressed nothing exclusive or exciting jump out at me.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
I was really excited to be picked to join the testing, and was looking forward to sharing disney films with my girls over the xmas period, but the faff of setting it up really dulled my enthusiasm. My girls forgot they had the app most of the time in favour of Netflix which is much more child friendly. The app crashed several times especially if we attempted to mirror onto apple TV. Perhaps you have to watch a lot more movies than we do to really appreciate the app.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not. No, my girls love disney but having the disney channel (which I was disappointed that shows were included on the app.) and netflix plus a selection of disney DVDS means the £9.99 cost would put me off recommending it.
flixybelle · 18/01/2016 22:27

sorry I meant that Disney channel shows were NOT on the app.

thesoupdragon44 · 19/01/2016 14:58

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

My son joined me testing the app

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
I found it easy to set up log in and find our way around
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?

My son loved the classic Disney films and enjoyed watching the ones he hasn't seen before. He also liked the shorts as a little chill out treat

  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

I like the range of films and the shorts, I found the books were a little young, and my son was not interested in the soundtracks.

  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
We like Disney life and the fact we can download a film to watch outside of the house, I'm not so keen on the monthly cost as I don't know how much new content there will be each month. It would be nice if you had some exclusive film clips for up coming Disney movies, and more grown up stories.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I have recommended Disney life to friends who are fans of Disney, as you would need to get lots of use out of it for the monthly cost. It is something I might consider having for a few months over the Christmas holidays as a treat.

HappyMum4 · 20/01/2016 12:50
  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
Mainly my two youngest, daughter who is 10 and son who is 9, although eldest two also love Disney, just not into the apps so much.
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
I found it pretty easy once we had the code, it was all fairly straight forward and quick.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
We watched Christmas movies and Frozen Fever and my son read some books, the kids enjoyed them although we do have the Disney Channel and Sky Movies so they weren't terribly excited about watching stuff on the iPad whenbthey could see it on the big screen and if we went on a long journey to visit relatives, they would take their dvd's as we have the majority of the Disney ones already. But the programmes are handy.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
There was a very good range on offer, something for everyone.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
We all liked it, but we would not be so keen on paying £9.99 for it just because we already have so much Disney in our life in other ways. I liked the fact there were no ads, and it was very child friendly, but would not wantvto encourage long periods of ipad/iPhone time.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I probably would not as I don't think the price is a reasonable amount for the content received, perhaps a one off fee for what you require but not a monthly subscription. Sorry!
AmberNectarine · 20/01/2016 13:03
  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
Both - DD (4) and DS (6) - the perfect ages I would think.
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Super easy and intuitive - my kids know their way round an iPad anyway Blush so were able to use the app without my input. They loved choosing their avatars (ariel and sully).
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these? We watched my old favourites like Peter Pan, Robin Hood and Aladdin, plus Frozen Fever (of course). Plus Doc McStuffins and Sofia for DD.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
I thought it was really good actually, much better than I expected for the price.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
Very positive - I'm considering a subscription.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Definitely would. The only reason I might not is if, like us, you have all the Disney movies on DVD and the Disney channels, in which case I might not think the additional content was worth it. However, the lack of faff of putting on a DVD was great!
Moogdroog · 20/01/2016 14:12

Tester here - sorry for the delay!

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
Both my DD (4) and DS (6)

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
It was pretty easy to set up, and fairly easier to navigate around, though there were problems (see below)
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
Frozen Fever was a big hit, and was watched several times. We watched a few of the short films, and browsed the longer movies, chose one to watch but had to do a workaround (see below)
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
Great range of content, had a look at the books, played a fun game guessing the Disney tune (DD was amazing at it), but a lot of the films we could watch on other streaming services or own on DVD.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
Not fantastic to be honest. iPad app worked ok, but constantly needed me to log in, and I found out later, added each as a new device, until the limit was reached. Not luck at all with the android app - couldn't get anything to play, apart from one time. For us, without being able to watch on a big screen, as a family, it's use is limited. We have 2 smart DVD players, a PlayStation 4 and a Roku box so not without options. I tried screen mirroring using my Samsung phone, but no content would play. Bit of a shame.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Not at present. For 9.99 a month it's quite expensive just to be able to use on hand help devices, and we can access quite a lot of content on the other streaming subscriptions that we have. Needs work, but I enjoyed being able to test it, so thank you.
CMOTDibbler · 20/01/2016 14:16

My favourite disney moment is at the beginning of Up when theres the film of his life. It makes me cry even thinking of it.

Vix7 · 20/01/2016 18:03
  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
DD 5y and DS 3y
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Had a bit of trouble setting up initially as forgot I had signed up to some Disney movie website years ago and had the retrieve the password to sign in to disney Also iPad was not updated to ios8 (no backward compatibility!) yet so could only access online.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
DD loved all the fairies as she had watched one of the movies previously. Streaming was smooth and sharp. DS loved Mickey Mouse clubhouse and handy manny
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
Fairly good range though the newest shows were not available (tinkerbell and the neverbeast for one)
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
Fairly well designed, kids could scroll through and choose what shows they wanted.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
At £10/month, a bit too steep for a subscription. Doesn't quite compare to offerings on cable TV
Kriek · 20/01/2016 21:58

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?

Both my DD aged 8 and DS aged 5.

How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?

The set up was a nightmare. I had to register and it did not want to take my details, it then said I was registered but would not accept my login, finally I waited 2 days before trying again and I managed to use an old email address because my first one was already in use but for some reason was not accepting my password. I very nearly gave up with it. I would not recommend it on that experience alone.

Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?

We watched all the shorts. These are a family favourite. My DS loved 'Presto' in fact we have watched it about 200 times since. [sigh]

We wanted to film some extracts for social media but the requirements were quite contrived and I felt that me being ready with a camera at X point in the film rather distracted from the moment. I would rather let them live the movie.

What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?

It was good. I was surprised to see as much on the site as there was. We enjoyed exploring it but overall the way in which the site worked was not very good for us. My DH commented each time you logged in the site forgot where you had been or what you had been viewing. This got quite tiresome as we had to keep 'refinding' content. I got rather annoyed by this. Also, the profiles gave you exactly the same selection so I am not sure why they were there. Even after watching a considerable amount the films still displayed the same choice. Confused

What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?

I liked it but I am not sure I like it enough to continue. It is quite costly for just Disney content. What we did watch we would have already seen at the cinema or elsewhere so unless they had 'new' releases on it or something else to keep us tied in I don't think we would continue with it.

Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. My SIL is pregnant and I imagine that it would be much better utilised with a younger audience. I will and have recommended it to her. I might recommend in passing but I don't think I would go out of my way to do so.

One final comment, I liked that you get a Disneystore discount as a member. That is rather handy and a selling point for me.

janiegd · 21/01/2016 19:13

Disney is simply THE best.
UP! is my favourite film and the opening few minutes reduces me to tears every single time.

Vikiib · 21/01/2016 21:01

My 2yo daughter helped me test DisneylifE and I found it really easy to set up and use.
My daughter loves watching the good dinosaur trailers and anything frozen related.
They was a wide range of content including books and music which was good.
I think that most of the trailers etc would be on YouTube and that instead of paying the £9.99 a month to subscribe you bought a DVD you would be better off. I think the price is quite expensive.
I probably not recommend DisneyLife To friends as the price is too much.

PseudoBadger · 22/01/2016 07:34

Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
4 year old DS and 2 year old DD

  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
At first we had to log in all the time but then it remembered us so perhaps Disney read the feedback earlier on the thread? My children tend to watch the same things over and over so it was a real shame that their profiles did not remember recently viewed items.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
They were very happy that Pooh's Hefalump Movie and Aristocats were on there.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
It was a good mix of new and old favourites.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
I like it but it would be much improved if it remembered people's favourites on their profile automatically.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would suggest it as an option but it is quite pricey.
Missydurrani · 22/01/2016 12:23
  • Which of your DCs joined you in testing the DisneyLife?
My 6 years old disney lover boy joined me in testing disneyLife.
  • How easy did you find it to use DisneyLife?
Not too easy I'm farad, setting it up was a nightmare took ages and didn't really like the fact that we couldn't cast it onto our tv from iPhone and ipad and needed DH's laptop to do that.
  • Which films/programmes did you or your DCs watch? What did you and your DCs think of these?
I have no idea what we are doing wrong but every time while watching a movie it kept getting stuck/hanged, resulted in ds getting very impatient and frustrated so every time we ended up back on Netflix watching the same movie.
  • What did you think about the range of content on offer on DisneyLife?
Very good indeed, a lot of stuff that I didn't even think was Disney's. Only if the app was hassle free I'd be very happy paying for it.
  • What was your overall impression of DisneyLife?
Poor. Good content and if it worked very well for us, then I'd say its excellent and dream come true for a disney loving family but it just didn't work very well for us.
  • Would you recommend DisneyLife to friends or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Not currently as setting up was a nightmare and it keeps getting stuck on tablets and even when casting on to tv. I think the app needs upgrading and then may be we'll have less hassle.
