-How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
It was quite easy to find the colour we wanted, we chose Ocean Horizon from the chip rack.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?
We decorated dd2's bedroom as it was in desperate need of painting.
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Went on very easily and no smell. Dried really quickly and has a lovely finish.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would consider it as it's very good quality just not sure I could justify the price.

Here are my Before and After pics, although they really don't do it justice! I'm really pleased with the coverage and the ease of application, and the colour is also lovely. I'm going to do the whole kitchen :) - it's given me a bit of confidence that I can paint (walls at least) on my own.

Also interested by the colour scanning potential, and already planning colours for our bedroom! Thank you for the chance to try this. It's been brilliant!

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2000 colours on the chip rack or did you math a colour sample?

The paint was to redecorate my daughters bedroom and she knew which colours she wanted (I bought one myself). She and I chose the exact colours from the immense range on the chip rack. We found it brilliant to compare colours and find two shades which seemed warmer and worked well together.

Which too did you decorate and why?

I'm working through decorating my daughters room, she's now 11 and it needed an update.

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar premium walls and ceilings paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

First I used a minty blue and this applied well but definitely needed 2 coats to look good enough. The consistency is quite runny but it doesn't drip. I found it different to use and it reminded me more of a gloss paint for application. The paint dried quickly and seemed to form a "skin" when applied, this was good and bad as a skin quickly formed within the paint at the base of the roller tray and when rolling I did need to pick small parts of it off the wall as I went.

Would you consider using Valspar premium walls and ceilings paint in your home again? If so why if not why not?

I'm undecided after using the bluey colour it would be a definite yes (especially with the paint glitter added- which was brilliant). However I've just added the yellow paint to the other 2 walls and am really disappointed, there's plenty of paint for two coats but it'll need 3! The paint is so blotchy and I've worked hard all day picking out the pieces of paint skin every time I refilled the tray. I'm very tempted to buy something like dulux to cover the top as it's less defeating when it's so tricky to apply. The 2 blue walls look great and paint seemed better for that although these are both Valspar premium mid sheen.

Thankyou mumsnet for letting me take part. The roller and brushes have been brilliant!

We've finally finished. The shade is showing up brown in the photo but it is more of an aubergine colour. I think we're happy. But, we were expecting more of a dark grey colour... Maybe we'll end up preferring this.

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
It was hard to make a choice as a lot of the colours were very similar, but the lights were very helpful, and if I had had a specific colour in mind it would have been very easy to match it.
  • Which room did you decorate and why?
We painted the kitchen as a recent leak had left it stained and it was looking many to start off with to be honest
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The paint went on well, and gave a good finish. The only thing is that annoyingly it don't cover one of the stains :-( not sure why and not sure how to cover it up!
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
It is expensive, but was worth the money. I would use it again if I had a specific colour in mind to be matched for sure.

I chose the colour from the selection in store, I got told off by DH several times for selected 'too girly' colours but we agreed on a bluey grey shade in the end.

The original plan was to decorate a bedroom but after several issues obtaining the paint, we were actually given a larger size and so decided to paint the dining room. I'd like to mention that Angelie from MNHQ and Harriet from Valspar were incredibly helpful and helped me sort out the issue with B&Q very well. B&Q themselves were atrocious. The customer service was a disgrace, I was kept waiting for 45 minutes with my 18mo - twice and was treated very rudely by the store manager. Not impressed.

As a result of these shenanigans, we were a bit later than planned on getting the project done. DH doesn't trust me with DIY so he took on the painting single handedly and forgot to take a before picture so we've got a half done and a complete!

DH was a big fan of the paint (and he's very picky!) the paint went on really well, it only needed one coat, dried almost instantly and had no smell at all. The finished walls look really really good, I don't think my photos really do it justice.

Would definitely buy this paint again but absolutely not from the B&Q that served me this time. The lady on the Valspar paint counter was fantastic but the rest of the staff were shockingly rude and unhelpful.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
I chose from the chip rack - we were decorating a really tiny single bedroom and just wanted a neutral colour to maximise light and appearance of space. My son chose Clotted Cream.
Which room did you decorate and why?
I'm in the process of swapping the children's bedrooms round so my son will have the single room and my two daughters will share a bedroom (toddler daughter is currently still in my bedroom). The single room was painted a lovely pale pink, which my daughter loved but son was not so keen on!
Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
DP did the painting. It is clearly a high quality paint, with lovely coverage (although will definitely need the two coats). Application is quick and easy. However, the paint tin, specifically the lid, is really poorly designed. It is very difficult to get the lid back on properly once you've managed to open it. This led to a major spillage on our carpet, and the roller dried out while DP was cleaning the carpet, so the painting had to be done solely using the brushes. I've attached a before photo to show the original colour. The patches are where wall stickers have taken some of the paint off. These patches were filled with Polyfilla and sanded prior to painting with the Valspar. The other photo is after one coat. I think we'd have got more even coverage with the roller, but it's still a good result for just one coat.
Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would consider it because the paint itself is lovely. More so if they change their container design!

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

We chose from the booklet that came with our vouchers. Because who couldn't have Brussel Sprouts on the wall at this time of year. It's one of our favourite vegetables. We also chose tadpole but when we got to B&Q and had the whole array of colours before us, we decided Celery Heart went better with our first choice. We also used the light box with the colour chips to get an idea what the colours would look like.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

We chose our lounge. We've never done more than touch up really bad scuffs since moving in 8 years ago. 4 dc later and the paintwork has taken an absolute hammering. As the lounge is our main living area, it gets lots of hand prints, scuffs and (since the twins have got into drawing and colouring) scribbles on the walls. The idea of hard wearing, scrubbable paint that was easy to use (decorating in evenings around dc and work) was very appealing.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Overall, the experience of using the premium paint has been very positive. It went on very easily considering i a very novice home decorator, covered the scribbles that I couldn't be bothered to scrub off (would have stripped old paint down to plasterboard). We masked off the edges as we've bought a second can in a different colour so edged all round one wall before rollering the rest.

Initially we had a couple of drips where we probably overloaded brushes. The paint appears very thin and I was worried we might need a lot as our walls seem quite porous. But we've applied just one coat. It went on well, has dried beautifully so far with no patches.

Dh was very pleased with the paint and its quality, having done more decorating than I have. We really didn't use as much as we thought we might so have enough left of one colour to decorate our downstairs toilet top.

As long as it lives up to the description of hard wearing and scrubbable, I would definitely purchase it again. The difference in price shows the difference in quality.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 29/11/2015 22:58

Interestingly for us, mil said way back when, she used to work in a hardware store which sold Valspar paint. It was considered then to be one of the best paints available.

We were able to get the icon brushes but not the roller. Despite It allegedly being sent to us, it hasn't arrived over a week later so we used what we had. The brushes were lovely to use with the paint. I think they're the only ones I've used that didn't shed even one hair into the paint. They also cleaned up easily too.

Whether it was the difference in paint or roller or not, I don't know. But the roller seemed to hold onto an awful lot of paint once we'd finished.

Minisoksmakehardwork · 29/11/2015 23:03

And one more thing...

Getting hold of the roller has been impossible. Our two nearest stores don't stock them. Our next nearest is nearly 20 miles away and while we weren't prepared to travel just for the roller, we did find someone who was going that way. Unfortunately, they were unable to procure it for us as, upon asking, they were told by the staff member that they don't stock that one. This is despite their website indicating otherwise. So quite where we would get it from I have no idea.

lorka · 30/11/2015 00:31

Thank you so much Mumsnet and Valspar for choosing us to try out the paint.
:)

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
We chose a colour from the chip rack. We wanted something similar to what we had already as Dulux are no longer doing that colour. We chose Wispy Skies in a matt finish which really freshened up the walls. The process of mixing the paint in B & Q was quick and easy.
  • Which room did you decorate and why?
We decorated the family room. We had already started to fill holes in there before we realised that we didn't have enough paint to repaint the room and that Dulux had stopped selling that colour. Therefore, we had little patches of filler everywhere and grubby marks that needed covered.
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
We had no previous knowledge of Valspar paint and have been pleased with the overall experience. The paint is good quality and dried quickly with an even coverage. We have only done one coat at the moment which seems to give great coverage as we painted it a similar colour. However, I noticed in the paperwork, we were sent, that 2 coats were recommended for the best finish. Therefore, we will do another coat to achieve the best results and a more durable finish. Pictures to follow after second coat. We never managed to get the roller in our local B&Q but the paint brushes are great.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I would consider using it again - it is quite pricey though. However, I like the fact that there are so many colours to choose from and it can be matched to anything you want. I also like the fact that the paint can be scrubbed and it is extra durable to withstand children's grubby finger marks. Therefore, it would be ideal in my hall which is needing painted next!!
theshooglypeg · 30/11/2015 08:42

Many thanks for the vouchers. Will post as soon as I get it done! Is there a deadline, does anyone know?

ohlittlepea · 30/11/2015 08:42

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was a good texture, and applied to the wall easily, i have found other wipe clean paints a but too thick to get a nice finish but this wasn't the case with Valspar. We did the cutting in one night and the rollering the next, very few touch ups were needed because it applied so well with the first coat. The midsheen finish is beautiful, and with our golden retriever and toddler the wipe clean properties are tested most days! So far we are very impressed.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? Yes
If so, why? Usually we would buy cheaper paint, but end up using at least twice the amount with two coats and touch ups! The finish with Valspar was so much better and we used so much less pain than we are used to. Genuinely amazed, this is a wonder product for busy families who still want their homes to look good.

Our shade change was very subtle! a horrible yellowy cream to a warmer cream 'puppy paws'

Q1 I loved the =range of colours and found it really easy to use the chips. It was great to be able to look at the shades under different lights too which really helped me to choose the right shade. I used a colour chip in the end for my hallway.
Q2. I decorated my hallway. I chose this room because it gets a lot of traffic, we have six children and are expecting loads more for Christmas so I wanted to make it look lovely for Christmas as well as redecorating with a hard wearing washable paint. I imagined at least 12 pairs of chocolate fingers all over the walls and that made my mind up really. Plus it is the first place you see when you walk in the house and I wanted a warm and welcoming feel.
Q3. I bought the paint and brushes with no problem but our local B and Q didn't have the right roller in stock so they gave me an alternative Valspar roller set for emulsion and once they sorted the voucher out it was fine. The paint went on really well and the brushes were great to use as they didn't lose hairs do that was great. I found though that I needed 4 coats which was disappointing and had to buy another tin. I used the right time between coats and didn't have what I thought was a dramatic change, going from buff to warm ochre but it did go on well and was rich and creamy.
Q4. I would use Valspar again as I liked the end result but maybe not on a huge area as the thought of having to use up to 4 coats would be expensive and time consuming. However the paint was lovely and the colour options endless so I would recommend. I also liked the idea of being able to match Farrow and Ball colours which we usually use. Anyway, here's the before and after!

Forgot to add pics. Here is a dodgy before and after. We're not quite finished so will post some more once the other colour is on. Still happy with colour and finish. Although this morning I noticed a couple of marks on the green, wiped my hand over and knocked off two blobs Blush. We will have to go over those but I've been told to wait until it's definitely dry as it can pull the other paint off. So likely touch ups like that will be done once the whole room is finished.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

Chose a colour from the rack as there were so many had no need to colour match.
Actually buying the paint was not a great experience. We hung around at the desk next to the paint chips with 2 other people waiting to be served but were ignored. The other 2 people left but we went and finally found a member of staff at the back of the store. He couldn't mix the paint but put a call out to someone who could. As we went back to the desk a call went out to 'cancel paint mixing call' which was a bit odd. We waited a bit more and finally someone turned up. If the paint was not free I would not have waited this long just to get served. The lady who served us could not have been less interested, she immediately announced she couldn't mix the colour we wanted as she did not have the right base, but then looked at the shelf and there it was. She then offered to take our details so we could colour match the paint mix which confused us as it was one of the colour chips.
The paint rollers were not in stock and the lady serving didn't seem to know if she could even order them in so we left that, Mumsnet did say would arrange for one to be sent but it hasn't turned up so I used my own roller.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

I was going to paint DS's bedroom as it is just white, but that was not going to be a good test of the scrubbable paint as he is beyond the scribbling on walls stage. I painted the dining area of the kitchen instead as the dog sleeps in there and I am constantly wiping the walls from food spatters etc.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I was all set to hate the paint after the experience of buying it, but it went on the wall really easily and one coat was plenty to cover the whole area and there is paint left over for DS's bedroom too. The colour went on really well it does seem really nice paint as it sort of gripped the wall so was easy to paint. Has covered a few marks. Also painted well on wooden shelves which I painted too.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would use the paint again as it went on so well, and I will use up this tin on DS's bedroom. However if it is as difficult to buy as it was this time I don't think I would wait around in B&Q just to spend extra money on paint, I would rather just grab a tin and go.

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

Choosing the colour was easy. We recently moved house, and wanted to use the same colour in our cloakroom that we'd had in our old bathroom. It is a Farrow and Ball colour, and I asked the chap on the mixing counter to match the paint chip. I'm not convinced it was a brilliant match for the actual paint colour of F&B, but am absolutely sure that is down the to paint chip not being a brilliant match, rather than any problem with the mixing! I loved it that they recorded the mix, so that we could go back and get more.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

Did the cloakroom. Chose it because I knew I wouldn't have days and days to do the decorating, and if I hated the paint, it would be easy enough to cover it up again.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

If I was a more confident decorator, I would probably have "cut it back" slightly with a little water. It was very thick, compare to the F&B I've used previously. I'm really impressed with the coverage though, and though I probably will go back and do a further coat, it really doesn't need it. I'd be doing that just to use up more paint, because I've only used about 1/3 of the tin, and I hate waste.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely, definitely, definitely. I'm really glad to have had the opportunity to try it, which I definitely wouldn't have done if I'd had to pay for it. I am so wedded to F&B that I didn't think I would ever find other brands colours acceptable. That is definitely not the case now! I think I may be feeling quite evangelical.

I should add that the unevenness in the colour in the photos was because I was trying to use up what was left on the roller, not dodgy paint!

One tiny complaint that I didn't mention above. I liked the lid, it came off easily and cleanly, but pouring the paint into the tray was very messy, the lip of the pot just dribbled everywhere.

Testers, please let us know:

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? I colour matched with a Crown paint that I already had on my walls.
  • Which room did you decorate and why? Hall and stairs.
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality. Covers nicely and applies well without drips.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would use it again as long as it does what it says on the tin! My reason for colour matching with the Crown paint was because my children constantly touch the walls leaving greasy marks! As yet I haven't had to wipe them so that will be the real test for me.

I agree, sliced, the container is hard to pour from though opened easily. It is hard not to slop it out.

I have to say how happy we are with the finish. There is a real intensity and richness which is lovely.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? We found it fairly easy to choose a colour, as there is a colour we have used a lot in the rest of the house, which goes well where we wanted to decorate, so we matched a colour sample to that.

  • Which room did you decorate and why? We decorated our dining room, because we didn't get round to decorating it when we moved in 2 years ago Blush and we spend a lot of time in it, so we'd like it to look nice Smile
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality. We found the paint very easy to apply & found it went on very smoothly. It is a lovely quality paint, a lot better than we are used to using (often use store's own brand).
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? I would consider using it again if the price is reasonable, as it is a good quality product & easy to use.

Unfortunately, I am having issues with taking photos with my phone so I can't upload any at the moment Sad. I'll keep trying though!
