I know this wasn't on the original question list (but could be covered by the last question) but I just wanted to update with our experiences of the paint after a week.

I'm a childminder and have 9 part timers through the house each week, all aged 6 and under (fun!!) They all seem to have an obsession with putting scruffy hand prints on the walls. This week we have had pencil marks, chocolate spread, mud and snot (little darlings) and all the marks have washed off leaving the wall looking like new. I am very impressed and will be off buying enough to do all the 'work' rooms when I get paid. It'll save me doing my repaint 3 times a year!!

surpriseitsme · 27/11/2015 21:30

Argh! My pack still hasnt arrived! Ive sent an email in response to the recieved email but have not had a response, its cutting it a bit fine to say the least :(

ohhelpohnoitsa · 27/11/2015 22:40

glenthered thanks for your update. That puts another tick in the box for me. We are having our hall stairs and landing done in a couple of weeks. I might get the valspar colour matched to our usual Dulux colour based on your recommendation. High traffic area = hand prints, scuffs and slawming (sp??) As dh calls it = frquent touch ups. That's fine for the first year or so but DH still touches up after 6 years aand we now look like parchwork!!!!!!

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
We found choosing the colour easy – we went into store and chose from the colour chip rack, and had no idea what colour to do. Each family member chose a colour and we had a vote. We opted for a yellow called ‘Happy Place’. I think it was the name that swayed our choice. We went for a brighter colour as the room is quite dark.
The whole choosing process was fun! The children (aged 2 and 4) loved the little cards of colours, while the lights to enable you to see what the colour would look like (daylight, artificial light etc) were a great idea, although they were not working in our local B&Q. The member of staff mixing the paint in store was amazing with the children, explaining to them what he was doing at the time and what was happening.
While we could get the brushes in our little store, we had to go to the superstore to get the rollers so only managed to paint last night.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?
Our utility room. We use it as a main entrance to the house both from the front and back garden and it was a state. With two children that LOVE the outdoors and a lab that loves muddy puddles the current room was in need of a lot of TLC. We have also just come out of puppyhood with the Labrador so some of the walls were chewed. The ability to clean the walls with soap and water made this room an obvious choice to test out durability.
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
DH did most of the work – I don’t have the patience to paint. It is going to need three coats, but I think the green underneath was quite dark. DH commented on how nice the brushes and roller are, but we do tend to buy cheapy ones and bin them after. The paint is quite thick in the pot, but not gloopy on the roller which is nice. We will need three coats, I think if the original colour was lighter we would only need two coats. The walls have dried nicely this morning – I am impressed.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would, I like the way it has finished, I like the choice if colours, and being a bit of a sparkle fan I would love to use the paint with the sparkle in. DH wouldn’t, because it needed a few coats. He would prefer a ‘one coat’ paint.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? really easy, went to b&q and she scanned the dulex colour and mixed it up.

which room did you decorate and why? I redid the hallway. It was full of dirty hand prints, scooter and bike marks, odd pen marks and spilt cup of tea marks. I wanted something tough and durable and stronger than my two children.

please describe the overall experience of using valspa premium walls and ceiling paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Really really good, the paint has covered amazingly, it went on the walls really good, excellent finish and I'm really happy with it. The brushes and roller was also really good and paint didn't spray all over me when rolling.

would you consider using valspa premium wall and ceiling paint paint again? Yes it's really good and I'd recommend it to friends and family.

Just find shed a second coat. The photo shows one wall with two coats and one with one. The second coat (front wall) definitely gives a greater depth of colour, it also ensures better coverage.
The paint brushes washed out well. The one other thing I would recommend are the paint tray liners from Harris, they make cleaning up much easier.
The colour I used was visionary, a bluesy white but not grey, shade.

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
I chose from the samples as I loved the colour I chose.
  • Which room did you decorate and why?
My bedroom as it has never been decorated in 7 years and my daughter had drawn on the wall!
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
It was the best quality paint I have ever used, it went on smoothly, it was thick and looks like good quality, the colour is fantastic and it has made my room look fantatic. I have never found paint so easy to apply and I will not be using cheaper alternatives in future.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I will alsways be using Valspar from now on I loved the husge range of colours, I loved the excellent quality, I loved the ease it went on the wall, I adore the overall end product. I am going back to buy some more and I am going to do my kitchen next.

  1. Loads of colours to choose from! We liked the different lights to try the paint chips under, as they gave us a better idea of what it would look like at home. Shame that we couldn't get a paint sample pot to test.. We chose a green from the rack after much comparison. My little one was very intrigued to see the paint mixed up. It did take a little longer than just grabbing a tin off the shelf and there was a queue for the paint counter.
  2. We painted a feature wall in the nursery. We were planning on painting a larger room, but wouldn't have had anywhere near enough paint. It had been magnolia before, so needed a little personalising!
  3. Application was easy. We washed down the wall and taped before hand. Some paint did come off with the tape (even when still wet, as per your recommendation). Paint was fairly odourless.
  4. I would consider using it again IF it lives up to it endurance claims. It's much more expensive than the usual durable paint that I would use.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
I chose from the colours in the end. I had taken a couple of colour charts I intended to match, but when I put them under the light box they looked too dark. It was hard to choose as a lot of the colours were so similar. I got the brushes but the branch didn't do the roller.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?
Main bedroom, as we moved in 6 months ago and it was really manky! Previous owners had moved a radiator and not repainted, plus there are bits of skirting board and carpet missing from where fitted furniture used to be. It definitely needed smartening up.
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The wall was a pale purple and I was painting it dark blue so I was a bit dubious that no undercoat was needed. The first coat went on very patchy, when I took the brush or roller over the same bit again it took it off! The paint was thicker than I expected, like jelly, so took longer to dry. The second coat went on much more smoothly and covered perfectly. Definitely didn't need a third coat.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would if I was absolutely sure of the colour I wanted, as it is more expensive than other paint brands so wouldn't want to change my mind. But the colour range is amazing and finish is good.

Thanks for the opportunity to test it out!

Thanks for the chance to take part!

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
We chose from the rack. There was an amazing range. It was well, organised and helped with toning in paint for woodwork. We were also able to see what the paint would look like in different kinds of light.
  • Which room did you decorate and why?
We decorated DD's room. It needed done!
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The paint was easy to apply, and went on evenly. Coverage was good. We were painting over a darker colour. From past experience I though we'd need 3 or 4 coats, but we only needed 2. We could probably have got away with one.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, definitely. The whole experience was good. The price is quite high but I think that is offset by the good coverage.

Hi,

Thanks very much for choosing me....it gave me the kick up the arse to actually decorate my hall....its been on my to-do list for a couple of years!!!

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

I wanted to match it with dulux boutique cream as I already have a tin of that and wanted to use the dulux stuff to paint my landing upstairs. I colour matched in store. It was very easy and the match looked OK in the store. Once it dried on the walls and next to the actual boutique cream on my wall the Valspar is much darker although complementary to the dulux colour. (I'm not too fussed, I thought it was unlikely that they would match that perfectly...it'll be fine for what I want to do. Or I might buy some more Valspar....which they saved my details and the match I had so I can go and buy more tins whenever I want. V handy!)

I bought the semi sheen one and really liked being able to have that choice. I like the look of Matt but in a hallway with young children I was worried it would get trashed too quickly. The semi sheen was perfect and more modern looking than the usual satin finish.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

Hall and stairway. Wanted to update the colour.

Still have a small amount of paint left in case of touching up. Good coverage.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I was pleasantly surprised. I guess I thought Valspar would be of own-brand standard which I'm always wary of using. This was good quality, thick paint which went on smoothly. When I loaded up the roller and could apply good, even pressure it was thick enough that you could almost get away with one coat. On the stairway where I had to use an extension rod I definitely needed to do two coats - but i think that was the awkwardness of the job (and user error!).

It wasn't smelly, which I like. It was as good as dulux in coverage and ease of use.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, I would. I think I might buy more to do my landing upstairs as I like the semi sheen options. Also might. Do my kitchen in this paint.

I've used Valspar spray on paint to change the colour of a wooden curtain pole. That was an easy job too!

diymania · 29/11/2015 12:26

Before/mid way. It was a light green before and I changed it to a dark cream.

I've put my pictures up and tried to clear off some of the clutter. I couldn't get the roller as it was out of stock so I sent my husband back to chose the paint and pick up the roller. The brushes and roller were excellent.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

It didn't seem like 2,000. There were samples on paint cards. I brought some home and would have liked blue but my husband took a match pot from Wickes to B&Q called Champagne which looked browney cream and they mixed it to that.

Which room did you decorate and why

We decorated part of our kitchen extension and family area as that is where the back door is to the garden and the paint in that area gets very grubby with people going in and out and cooking going on. It desperately needed repainting and this was definitely an incentive

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was very good quality and easy to use and gave a lovely smooth finish. However the colour looks more pink on the walls than it did in the roller tray which was a slight concern as we wanted more of a magnolia colour (boring I know) but the overall finish is wonderful

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would definitely buy it again as it gives a lovely finish and my dh found it easy to use and you didn't need to use as much as it was concentrated. He still wants to use the bumper pot of Magnolia up though somewhere Hmm. We still have some left so he will continue to paint the kitchen side of the room with the paint and if we run out, I will buy some more. Ideally we would have liked to have finished off this weekend but it is a huge area and he could only do so much

thanks again for choosing me.

We choose the colour by looking online for a rough idea and then choose from the paint chips in store. I thought the light box that showed you how it would look in different lights was a fab idea.
Paint mixing process seemed quick and easy. Unfortunately b&q didn't stock the roller set so just got the brushes and used own rollers.
We painted the hallway, which we stupidly painted white when we first moved in as it was a deep brown. But with children and dog it had got very grubby.
I thought the paint went on fantastically. Nice thick coverage. It felt like nice paint to use and dried very quickly.
Very pleased with the end result.
I would definitely use valspar again. The only issue I would have is the price, I know it's a quality product and I'm used to buying cheaper options. However if it does wash well then it will last for longer and be good value in the long run. We shall see...
Thank you to mums net and valspar for the product test. Really enjoyed being part of itSmile

This project has been undertaken by DS3 (17) who was relegated to the box room when DS2 decided to live at home for the first year of Uni . probably not much bigger than Harry Potter's room under the stairs it hasn't been touched for years and was really ready for a freshen up. The buying and painting was undertaken by DS, the cleaning up by Mum!-

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

Ds chose a colour he liked in a picture online which he printed off to take with him but when he got there found something pretty much the same among the chips so went with that he chose 'Blue Lobster'. No luck though with the brushes and roller the assistant he asked said no they didn't stock them and no they couldn't order in so thank you MN for arranging for the missing items to be delivered direct to us

- Which room did you decorate and why?
See above

- Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint went on well despite the state of the walls he did find it needed two coats though, any drips (and there were a few) wiped up easily with a damp cloth and the brushes and roller were easy to clean after use too, in the past I would have bought cheapy equipment and binned it after but it is certainly true that you get what you pay for!

- Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Did take a deep intake of breath at the cost painted my kitchen this year using 2 tins of Dulux for less money than one tin of this but the difference in quality is evident, would certainly use it again in the future

The after picture has shadow at the top was getting dark by the time he was finished so the lower half gives you the best idea of the colour

We've been saving up to do the house and have finally saved enough for new windows, replastering the bedrooms and recarpeting (two years after moving in!). I can't afford to decorate everywhere yet but I was lucky enough to be chosen to test the Valspar paint and I thought I'd paint the sitting room fireplace wall with it so we had at least one room in the house which felt like 'ours' and where we could have people over Christmas.

I'm normally a safe duck egg and brown sort of girl - but I went wild and chose a colour I'd never normally go with - Romantic Holiday (a kind of purple with a greyish undertone). I used the colour chips to choose the colour - I spent a happy half hour pulling different purple chips off the rack and trying them under the different lights as i was looking for the exact colour I had in my head. I was a bit dubious when I painted the test patch, but having done the whole fireplace wall, I'm really pleased with the results. It looks so cosy! (And much better than the chocolate icecream brown used by the previous owner).

The paint goes on really well - it was very smooth and easy to apply - and felt like a quality product. The colour is absolutely true to the colour chip. One coat was enough to cover the existing paint really well, even with my bumpy walls - and a second coat covered up the odd patch I'd missed. The second coat didn't seem to go on quite so smoothly for some reason, but dried perfectly well. I don't know how well the paint will endure, but with a rampaging four year old who crashes into the walls with her pushchair, I expect I'll soon find out. I used the Dulux diamond paint in the hallway at our old house which was really tough, so I'm hoping that this will be similarly hardwearing.

I'd consider using the paint again if it does live up to expectations in terms of being hardwearing. It was more expensive than I'd normally buy, but I liked being able to get the exact colour I wanted. I'd certainly consider it for somewhere that takes a battering like the hallway.

It has been a great opportunity to go a bit wild with colour and has forced me to finally get on with 'personalising' the house: it doesn't matter if the rest of the house is still a bit of a mess - I will now have at least one room that's going to feel lovely and Christmassy! Pictures to follow once my phone is charged up.

CrystalGlitz · 29/11/2015 17:06

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

I took DTDs (10) to B&Q to choose from the colour chips. They had a great time testing the samples in the different light conditions, and we left with a few sizeable tester pots. After deciding on Eye Spy mid-sheen, I returned to B&Q where the paint was mixed in a minute or so while I found the brush and roller sets.

Which room did you decorate and why?

We decided to paint DTD2's bedroom as it hadn't been redecorated since we moved in 8 years ago.

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

After prepping the walls with sugar soap and filling a couple of nail holes, we were good to go. The coverage was excellent; I thought I'd need a second coat to cover the original dull green, but could have got away with one were it not for some patchy areas where the DTDs 'helped'. So I did a very quick second coat the following morning, and again the paint glided on like a dream. It was thick enough not to splatter on the roller, and with the soft flexible brushes it was easy to cut in too.

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I'd definitely use Valspar again. This was the first time I'd done a full painting project myself, and the experience from colour selection to coverage made it look easy! Well worth the price upgrade (I even have some paint left after two coats) and I would also pay more for the brushes and roller sets; they gave a really good finish and were easy to clean.

The only problem now is that it was all so straightforward that DTD1 wants her bedroom painted too!

Thank you very much for selecting us to take part in this product test.

Thanks for choosing me to try out thus paint. B&q didn't have the rollers in stock but had the brushes

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
Although very tempted to go for one of the lovely colours, I matched with the colour I have throughout the house.
  • Which room did you decorate and why?
I've started in the hallway - I'll keep going through the house til I run out of paint The hall is the place that needs doing most often
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
Went on easily and not much smell. I did have real trouble getting the lid off the paint though. To the point I nearly gave up
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would, depending on how well it cleans up. I usually end up reprinting the areas the kids trash, but will be great to just wash it instead
