Just a follow up from me it's been a while since we painted the walls with valspar, I love it and we will be using it in the kids bedrooms when we decorate next month it's hard wearing and durable and we are able to wipe it down when little hands leave marks. Very impressed .

  1. We chose a colour from the chip rack. However, there was so much choice it was slightly overwhelming. But to have the option of a colour match was handy. I already knew hat there was a section with different lights to get out how a colour Can look different at different times of day, however it was not working (two light bulbs were missing). Staff were ever so helpful and helped me choose the right "type" of paint based upon how much light came into the room and at what time of day etc.

2.we decorated our children's room as the walls hadn't been painted in a while and needed a fresh lick of paint. There were marks on the wall from old Blu-tack etc.
  1. overall, the paint was very good. It had a premium feel to it which you don't get with cheaper paints. We used the same amount of paint that we would have done with any other brand so it doesn't work out more expensive. The quality of paint was thick enough to cover old marks on the paint, and it dries fully in a few hours. I was concerned that we were painting too close to bedtime and I didn't want the kids sleeping in a room with fumes. However, this paint did not smell and there was no trace of smell come bed time. I could have done just the one coat, it was that good, but we did two just to keep it in pristine condition.

4.yes most definitely so. The cost is a bit more than I would usually pay, but I did say to my Husband, that we would easily spend that much on a meal whereas this will last a lot longer than a meal, And it's scrub able. So any marks can be rubbed off and the paint should last!

We went from cream to pink!

Final versions. We bought four different colours. But only two really finished. Really good coverage. The other one we also bought the glitter to go in which is a very subtle but even coverage. You can't see it photographed though. The trade price on the paint seems really reasonable as well. Now just my bedroom to go.

Testers, please let us know:

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

I selected a colour from the rack.
  • Which room did you decorate and why? Babies nursery as she was about to arrive.
  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint is great to work with and gives great coverage after just one coat although I used two. The paint can be washed down easily too. There is no strong smell which is better than other major brands and it dries very quickly.
  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes definitely as it was so good to work with, the colours are fab and you can use colour match if you want too.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
DD chose from the chip rack in store. She wanted a pink colour and there are many available.

Which room did you decorate and why?
It's for DD's bedroom. We have just moved house and her room is in the worst condition. So it's the first we are doing.

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
DH went to get the paint. He said he waited for a long time in B&Q until someone came and helped him. He said there were three other customer waiting. And they all paged multiple times. DH wasn't sure about valspar originally. He's always used dulux or crown. But he was very impressed by the quality. We only needed two coats even though the before and after colours are very different. We were also all very impressed by the colour choices available.

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
We would if it's not £27 for a 2.5L tin! That's the price on our till receipt. A equivalent tin of dulux is only £17.

You can see a photo of the room in progress. DH did one wall. The other wall was the original colour. We were a bit late in finishing this as it's been a very hectic month.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
No, we were very lucky that DW found a colour in the leaflet which matches our curtains, so it was a very simple and straightforward choice - luckily!

Which room did you decorate and why?
Master bedroom because it was last decorated at least 10 years ago and long overdue (everywhere else in the house has been redecorated in the past couple of years), AND to give DW an anniversary surprise (as it's been a very tough year for her and she more than deserved a boost).

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
We were a bit late to the painting party (I had issues with my knees so unable to contemplate painting even a fortnight ago) but have really enjoyed it. The paint has very little odour which is a great plus with painting in wintertime (when having windows flung wide open is not really an option!). It went on really well, easily covering the apple green paint beneath. Seems very good quality and a little seems to go a long way (we've painted the whole room twice and still have half the paint tin left!). Really enjoyed the experience, as did DD who helped!

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I definitely would. I've not come across Valspar paints before but found them easier and smoother to apply than other similarly priced brands. So a thumbs up from me!

And DW very happy with a transformed bedroom. Amazing what a change of colour can do Wink.

(PS Will post before and after shots tomorrow, as currently experiencing a few technical hitches with transferring photos from phone to email).

Chose from colours, there were so many to choose from. It is a shame you can only get them in b and q with voucher as was not a b and q that near us.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

My 3 year old son's room. It used to be an office and so is beige and rather dull, so thought we would liven it up with a bright green/ turquoise colour.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was thick and even giving a good coverage for only a small amount of paint

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

I knew roughly what colour I was looking for but was amazed by the options on offer, there were so many, the colour sample cards were really useful and I used the light samples to see what the colours would look like under different lights which was excellent as some colours I was looking at looked different under the different lights

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

I decorate a newly made kitchen/diner which was originally a kitchen/dining room and bathroom.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I thought the paint went on really well, as it has a primer in it already it made the paint very easy to apply and the finish was excellent. The colour looked exactly like the sample I had chosen too. Whilst applying it I was thinking about it in comparison to other paints I had used and felt it was of a higher quality than others I had used previously.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would use it again, although the price is higher than what I would normally have lid for paint I feel the ease of applications and the quality of the paint makes the premium price worth it

I wish I could go back and edit my comment.

As we didn't have much time left till the end of November I was rushed. After I did my comment, I decided to start again in the room with the walls that weren't done.

I think positively of this paint. The taupe colour I chose covered the walls well. Both dark and light walls. One coat is enough, and touching up the parts that go amiss. The only thing is it looked grey. However 2 days later the colour has settled and does not look grey. I am impressed. I did help out with another valspar painter and sadly their paint was awful. I stay stick to the lighter colours.

I would get valspar again if I could trust how well it is. From my paint, it is excellent but I have seen a bad valspar paint. I've not seen this with the other 2 brands I use. Hence I would lean towards them as I know they will all come out good. If the valspar was on offer, I would perhaps lean towards it.

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

We spent ages trying to match the colour of our wallpaper with one of the colours on the chip rack but none seemed quite right so we colour matched. The chap on the desk was very helpful and it was quick, easy and the paint jigging machine was quite entertaining.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

We decorated our living room because we moved in to our house in July and I was sick of the previous owner's loud and garish wallpaper!

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

As soon as I opened the paint, I knew it would be good quality. It was thick and creamy rather than water like some other brands I have used. We painted over a very dark wall with a light grey colour and it took just 2 coats! Application was very quick and easy, it went on the wall a treat.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely use Valspar again, it isn't the cheapest option out there but it's worth every penny in terms of colour match and labour saving. We are planning on buying Valspar when we decorate our bedroom.

Continuing with our decorating (as we're doing it in the evenings around work and children.

Last night we added the second colour we purchased to our walls. We are still really impressed with how it goes on and the no shed brushes. I particularly like the stiffness to get a good line. I was concerned the second colour might be too light to cover some of the kids marks. But now it's dry, they're all gone.

The only disappointing thing is as shown in the photo. We used masking tape down the sides to prevent major accidents of light colour onto dark. Although dh get a bit happy with the roller, but the wet paint came right off the darker colour with no marking or losing the colour/making it patchy. But... Having masked on very dry paint (done about a week ago), when I've taken it off this morning, it has taken more paint off than I'm happy with. It's not a huge problem as we've got plenty of it left to touch up. But dh thought we'd just have to touch up the lighter where the masking was a bit wobbly. Think I'll get a piece of card out and move it along as I'm touching this up.

Also, despite expecting the roller to arrive over a week ago, Royal Mail have a lot to answer for as its still not here!

  • How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

We wanted to go for a mix of white and chocolate but more of whitish. I loved the colour cards that were on the display and large selection of colours. The lighter and related darker shades helped us to choose the contrasting colours easily. There were loads to choose from and clearly grouped and neatly displayed along with an option to feel how the colour would look in different lighting. This helped us to choose the colour that wouldn't look weird in different lighting.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

Although I wanted to do the living room, we decided to do the Kitchen, Valsper seems expensive and 2.5L will not be sufficient for our living room. So, DH didn't want to take risk buying another one when we are not sure about Valsper yet. We just had white on the wall before and wanted something different to match our Walnut worktop.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The application was quite easy, I have never done painting before but always loved to try it. Being a working mum didn't help much to spend time on DIY but now I have got some spare time to do it. The Brush was good quality and I don't know if it made a big difference as it is a premium quality brush as I didn't have a personal experience with other brands. But, for a first time painter, It was too good.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Generally, I loved the quality and finish. We had a good chat with the staff who said Valsper Premium is better than Dulux Endurance (which we usually buy). But having used Dulux before, I can't justify if paying a little extra to Valsper premium is worth it!? I haven't given it a wash yet and planning to decorate DD's room soon. If it works well, I will surely think about buying Valsper premium again.

-How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
To be honest I chose one of the colours that was in the brochure we received in the pack. It was pure luck that this colour is exactly what I had in mind for my project. It was a bit of colour but still quite light and pastel.

  • Which room did you decorate and why?

I decorated our spare room as it has been our dumping ground for the past 2 years. Each year I empty it and get it cleared and ready to decorate and it somehow manages to get back into a state. We recently bought a new bed and had moved our old bed into this room as it previously had a single and this is a king size. It was definitely perfect timing lol

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I found that the paint was good quality and thicker than other paints I have used before. (in a good way, it meant it wasn't dripping everywhere as much)
I normally have to do 3 coats for most paints but I only need 2 and I still had left over paint! I like the finish and there was such an array of colours and finishes that I would definitely use it in another home project.
The only problem I found was getting the rollers and brushes. My partner had to collect the paint and brushes as I can't drive and he drives across the country so could collect it from which ever one he passes but he kept finding they were out of stock (probably from all the mumsnet testers :P). We did already have some unused brushes and rollers from the last time that I prepared to do this room so it all ended peachy.

  • Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely consider using it. It was good quality and had a nice finish. In spring we will be redoing our garden, which will involve a lot of painting of gates, garden furniture and wooden plant covers so I hope that the outdoor paints are as good as the indoor ones! :)

Well, my proper feedback is going to be delayed, due to the fact that I've just accidentally thrown half a pot of paint all over the carpet. Having spent most of the night trying to scrub it off, I am not as near completion of the room as I had hoped! However, here is my preliminary feedback.

How did you find choosing your colour?
Difficult. I was looking for something neutral but there were so many different variations of neutral!

Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
I looked at the colour cards in store and chose from them.

  • Which room did you decorate and why? My four-month-old baby's room, ready for her to move into it at the end of January. It was a horrible lime colour, chosen by the previous owners of our house, and we want to make it nice for her.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Well, it doesn't do much for carpet! It's going on fine although does seem a bit thin - I'm definitely going to need a second coat even for the edges.

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I'm not sure yet - I'm going to have to buy more of it and it does seem expensive.

How did you find choosing your colour?
Pretty difficult. DH likes natural (magnolia) and I wanted something bolder.

Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
Choose a colour from the chip rack. We initially went for Brussel Sprouts, but the shop didn't have the paint card for us to use under the lights. So went for easygoing green.

  • Which room did you decorate and why? The kitchen/diner. We'll be spending a lot of time in there for Christmas, but also because there wouldn't be enough paint to do the living room.

  • Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I thought it went on well. The first coat was fine a lot of the walls, but needed to go back to do another coat. It went on really well, it also dried quickly and it didn't have the paint smell. As someone who loves the paint smell that wasn't a plus, but it was for everyone else!

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
At the moment I would., but then I've not tried to wash anything off the wall yet. I'm a little unsure about the cost, especially as it would take 5l to do my living room, but then again, I love the colour options and how easily it goes up. I'm firmly on the fence here.

I will, definitely, be using Harris brushes and rollers again. They were brilliant!
