Having moved home earlier this year we promised the DCs that we would have their rooms decorated by Christmas. The rooms in question are converted attic rooms so the starting point was having the existing wardrobe altered and custom fit drawers, shelves and a desk built. Our friendly joiner had just completed this when the opportunity came up to test Valspar paint through Mumsnet.
Murphy's law was applied and we bought paints to the DCs specifications the day before the voucher dropped through the door!
Which room did you decorate and why?
Never mind we thought we will get paint for the hall way between the two rooms currently fetchingly wallpapered in textured peach and cream. The Valspar paint appeals for this area because of the advertised hard-wearing aspect as gentle on the walls the DC are not.
How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?
The DC have both chosen eyewateringly bright colour schemes and so I chose a very neutral, soft colour called 'Mystical Morning' from the chips on display in B & Q however the very nice chap there said that we can have any colour made up as long as we bought in a non shiny something (at least the size of a 10p) and they would colour match.
Chatting to the Valspar expert he let me know that the paint is that hard wearing it can be used as chalkboard paint in any of the colours, though, depending on the colour you chose, some chalk will show up better than others - one of their sample pots of paint, available for under £3, would cover 2 metres square, enough for a decent sized chalkboard. I also spotted the glitter that can be added to the paint which is percolating ideas for when we decorate the baby's room next year!
B & Q in Inverness were lovely, they didn't have the rollers covered by the voucher in stock so upgraded to a larger Harris set - still free of charge ??
Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
The paint went on very easily, no drips or splatters like you can get with cheaper paints, one coat was sufficient to cover the wall we chose even over the textured wallpaper
Would you consider using Valspar Premium Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, very impressed with the quality and as long as it proves to be as hard wearing as we have been told then we will use it in every room! We are going back to B&Q to get a few tester pots in bright colours to paint the sides of DDs drawers, 6 drawers and each gets to be a different colour!
Pictures below show the before and after, all in all its a
result!
