This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

When I applied for the trial I was unsure whether DS would actually let me use the facepaints on him as when we've tried to get his face painted at fetes and parties he's been rather unwilling. However I have to say I've been really pleasantly surprised at how much he has enjoyed using the paints. DD didn't use the paints at all as I found it was impossible to get her to sit still long enough for me to do anything on her (not surprising for a 23 month old tbh)

Here is our feedback with some additional thoughts at the end.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes I was aware of the brand but had never tried using them myself before taking part in this product test.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

I thought the kit was well presented, the brochure gave some good ideas although step by step instructions and hints and tips would've been useful for those who have never tried face painting before (like myself). The colour pans were a moderately good size but the sponge did sometimes spill colour over into the next pan as they were quite deep set. I think it would've been good for the pans themselves to be slightly larger. I thought the colours were varied enough to create a good range of halloween designs.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Initially DS wasn't keen on having spooky halloween make up and asked if he could be a tiger. Once we had completed that design and he was really pleased with the results he then let me do a frankenstein design on him although he demanded that I was a tiger that time,

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Considering I'm a novice to face painting I was really impressed with both the application and the pigment of the paints. They were really easy to use and came off nice and easily without the need for excessive rubbing - a couple of baby wipes and we were as good as new again.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely recommend Snazaroo to famiily and friends as I've been very happy with the product we've tested.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

I'm already considering purchasing a few more face paints from this range. I'd like to get a better selection of colours to allow me to do more designs rather than just ones for halloween. I would definitely buy Snazaroo as I now know that they are good quality and produce good results.

I've been so pleased with how much DS has enjoyed using the face paints as it's given us an extra activity we can do together that I probably wouldn't have tried before. I found Pinterest and You Tube great for getting ideas and tutorials on different looks and hints and tips (god bless the internet). I will look forward to being able to try out some painting with DD when she is a little bit older too.

Thank you for giving us the chance to try these paints out with best wishes from Frankensteins Monster and his Pet Tiger.

Thanks for choosing us to try Snazaroo. Both my kids love face painting and doing it on our own was a fantastic experience.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
No, This is the first time I have tried it, I used to buy pencils from fancy dress stores/online but was very impressed with Snazaroo.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
The Sponge and brush impressed me and ofcourse the good selection of colours too. The Brush was softer than I expected and stayed in shape even after few strokes. I was able to do thin and thick stripes.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
We tried the cat, flowers and the rainbow and leaving the spider, witch and pumpkin for Halloween.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Quite easy. I am a dummy in face painting so couldn't get them perfect but we enjoyed the time and had fun doing it on our own. May be "Practice makes it perfect"

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I will definitely. Good for beginners like me and the kids who are crazily mad about face painting

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
I will definitely. The colours are great and looks professional even when it was done by a dummy like me. - Considering the cost when you do it outside, I will be paying a minimum 5£ for each kid, I am sure Snazaroo is worth the price. It is the best way to spend half term and holidays - especially as it is getting darker soon... I am sure activities like this will keep the kids away from TV. My older one loves arts and crafts and i don't have to use words to say how much she loves painting her sister's face :)

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes I was, have seen it being used at childrens parties. Never had a go with it myself though.
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I was very impressed. The booklet with idea's was very useful to me, not being that artistic myself, the step-by-step instructions were very good.
A sponge and paint brush were included with the facepaints, which I thought was perfect.
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I used the vampire, the skeleton and the bunny rabbit.
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Very easy. At first I wasn't sure whether I had been too sparingly with applying the white all over their face as it looked a bit smeary, but as the paint dried it turned into a nice white all over.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, definitely. Easy to use and very easy to remove of your DC faces using just water. When you have made a mistake, it is very easy to correct as well (by removing the mistake with a wet tissue and by re-applying the face paint). Even though all three of my children have a sensitive skin at times, no one seemed to suffer using the Snazaroo face paints.
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
I don't think I would buy any other face paint! Having used Snazaroo myself now, I am a great fan. Can't wait to try out some other face paint idea's now.

Flickbev · 28/10/2015 21:03

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
No, I had never heard of them. I have tried to avoid face paints at home as they are such a pain to remove.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
Very professional! I liked the sponge and paint brush- it would have been a pain to have to find these at home.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
My son requested the tiger. mentally I groaned as it looked complex.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Very easily. and it looked good once it was applied! Plus easy to remove which is really important.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. easy to use, looks professional, makes mummy look talented, easy to remove.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Definitely. although I have a lot left in this pack so it maybe a while...

bigtimemom · 28/10/2015 21:12
  1. Yes
  2. would have liked some primary colours
  3. Butterfly
  4. Very easy, great brush
  5. Yes would definetly recommend, to friends and family, great paint, works well and washes easily off.
  6. I would buy this brand again because they are so easy to use, doesnt
kelsuprise · 29/10/2015 07:03

Thanks for the face paints, have had a great time trying them out!

  1. Yes I was aware of Snazaroo brand, tbh- its the only brand I know!
  2. Easy to use, great booklet and applicators.
  3. We tried the spider and skeleton. Spider not so difficult, but skeleton quite tricky for me ( I am hopelessly sleep deprived at the mo- tho!)
  4. Quite easy to use, but in my opinion a bit dry- needed quite a bit of water.
  5. Definitely recommend as a quality brand with great colours and booklet.
  6. Would buy again as great product and soft on skin
Housemum · 29/10/2015 08:43

Q1. Yes
Q2. Good selection, but I would have liked a larger white as it is used a lot in Halloween designs(scary clown/vampire/skeleton/ghost). Awkward to take the clear film off the top of the paints - presume it's there for hygiene? Couldn't the whole pack be shrink wrapped, or a sealed tab on the box instead? Booklet had a lot of ideas but I presume is a generic booklet for all sets - at first I was wondering why no halloween designs, as they were on the back page. I did think there was a good range of ideas.
Q3. DDs had already decided what they wanted to be so used our own designs, but may use ones from the booklet on other occasions. DD3 was a vampire, but a little more glam than the one in the book, DD2 is 12 and not so keen on face painting the whole face - she wanted to be a creepy doll face mutant thing (not quite sure exactly where the inspiration from, just did what she asked!) so I used the set to draw stitches, long lashes and rosy cheeks on top of her own pale foundation
Q4. Very easy - at first I didn't make the colours thick enough, so the design looked watery, it takes a little practice to get the right smooth painting consistency
Q5. Yes - much stronger colours than cheap supermarket kits, I feel that they are a quality product (particularly as they are the brand that I have seen professional face painters use).

Q6. It's the only brand I would buy for the reasons in question 5.

Thanks for the kit :)

Housemum · 29/10/2015 09:09

Forgot to mention my own face - I did the Stupid Death skeleton from Horrible Histories - the paints didn't feel to thick on my skin which surprised me.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

No I had never heard of them- had only bought generic facepaints from supermarket before, which left DD1s skin in a terrible state after

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

I thought it was really good actually! Like everyone else, it was like the krypton factor trying to get the plastic off each of the colours and ended up with a good bit under my nails, but aside from that I thought it was a good tester selection.

I thought the booklet was great, the girls really enjoyed looking through the designs and picking what they wanted. A little bit annoying that there was no yellow - DD1 was very put out by this and I couldn't for the life of me remember if you could make yellow from mixing other colours (I had to google in the end) so some of the designs didn't make sense.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

DD2 in the picture only ever wants to be a pumpkin for Halloween (4 years and counting) so she was very happy with my (prettycrap) attempts. DD1 wanted to be my little pony (!) and that was beyond my booklet and skills!

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

I definitely need practice - not the sort of person that paints my nails, wears makeup etc, but i thought the instructions were excellent and the pain went on really smoothly. The sponge was a bit rough so I bought some foundation sponges from primark and they worked much better and didn't retain so much of the previous colour. But for a complete novice, I thougth it was really very good and I can see myself doing it on a rainy day and practicing.

The only negative was I couldn't get the orange off DD2's face. Even 5 days later after baths and face washing her eyebrows are a little bit orange! I would use a primer next time which hopefully leave me with a less orange child! (you tube very helpful for information and ideas!)

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would def. recommend. DD1 who reacted very badly to other paints, was absolutely fine (if not a very good pony) the booklet was good and overall it was great fun!

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

I am actually thinking about buying some more, as we all enjoyed ourselves and as the girls are still really young I'd get good use out of it. Just have to save up, as not cheap - but I would rather buy a good quality product that I can rely on origins of ingredients that something else cheap off the interenet that wouldn't be the safest for the girls skin

Thanks for the opportunity to test - we really had great fun!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes. I have used before.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween face paint?
Good, easy application and easy removal (which is a big thumbs up)

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween face paint?
I didn't use one design, elements of a few- fangs from dinosaur, web of spiders, etc etc..we created our own Halloween designs.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Easy - although a few layers needed as a little transparent. Perhaps I used too much water.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, good quality, wash off well.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Yes I would buy snazaroo going forward. No allergic reactions, trusted brand. Good quality.
Thanks for letting us take part!

MissSusanStoHelit · 29/10/2015 18:38

DD and I were so excited to be part of this test - we LOVE facepainting! Here is our feedback.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes - they're the only brand we buy now, as it's the only face paint that washes straight off. After the "Wicked Witch of the West" debacle of 2011, where DD was green for three days, I'm not taking any chances!

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Really good - nice colours to do zombies and vampires, not so great if she wanted a butterfly or rainbow.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

We did a cat - see pic below - it wasn't a full face, as we were pressed for time, but still looks effective!

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Extremely easy - loved the ideas book, and as always the paint applies easily and washes off equally easily. I love how the colours are vivid and bright without having to apply a thick layer, iyswim, so you get a really fantastic result without having to use too much product.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely - there is no other brand as easy to wash off as Snazaroo, and there's no other paint that gives such a lovely bright colour without layers of paint. Highly recommended by us!

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

As above - we always have face paint in the house for rainy days, and it's always Snazaroo.

Thank you MN and Snazaroo for choosing us - this was the most fun test ever!

  1. Yes
  2. Good paints easy to apply but could do with more colours in one set
  3. A dinosaur
4, easy to apply with a brush but used my own makeup sponge - yhe one which came with the kit is too large
  1. Yes - easy to use - easy to wash off (except for red)
  2. Yes I would buy it again as it is sold locally and I'm not aware of other brands however I feel it is overpriced for what it is
Blatherskite · 29/10/2015 21:42

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes, I used to work as a facepainter and primarily used Snazaroo paints. I found they had the best consistency and didn't stain the skin like some other brands did.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

I'm used to using the full sized products so I found the smaller cakes frustrating to use for sponging. They were good for brush work though.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

We had a skeleton and a pumpkin. We're going to a Halloween Circus tomorrow and dressing up again so we'll try another couple of designs then.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Snazaroo is always very easy to apply once wet enough. I do wish it would dry a bit more firmly though as it's sometimes hard to paint one colour on top of another even when they're dried.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

It has come up ad I have recommended Snazaroo. A friend was asking just last week and asked for my 'professional' opinion. I recommended Snazaroo as they are easy to get hold of and a good quality.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

I would. I always do. I tend to wait until they're 3 for 2 in Hobbycraft as they always strike me as being quite expensive when buying single colour blocks but they are my preferred brand.

5madthings · 29/10/2015 22:03

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes I was aware of snazaroo and have bought them in the past.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

I was impressed, I have bought smaller snazaroo kits before, this one had more colours and a better brush and is a good basic kit for Halloween.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

We have done a few, pumpkins, monster/zombie and also a few animal faces, dd age four especially likes being a dog or a tiger or a fox.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

I found the paints easy to use, though I prefer to use cheap make up sponges from poundland rather than the sponge in the box. The brush wash good and as always snazaroo face paints apply and cover really well.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes absolutely, wr have tried cheaper ones in the past but snazaroo is much better quality and just produces a much better result, I would always recommend them.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

I will only buy snazaroo as cheaper face paints just don't cover as well. Also I have eczema and very sensitive skin and snazaroo doesn't give my kids a reaction like others.

I like the big block colour pots you can buy as well, I try and get them at the range or when on offer but they last forever and store well.

The little booklet and leaflets are helpful, it's a shame the kits can't be resealed very well but snazaroo face paints are a great product and my kids love them.

Will be back with pics tomorrow once have uploaded them.

5madthings · 29/10/2015 22:04

Oh they also clean off easily with wet wipes and don't stain the skin!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

No, I had not heard of Snazaroo before this product test.

I like the kit, it looks great, is easy to use and I love that it comes with a handy booklet of ideas.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

My 4 year old wanted to be a tiger.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

It was very easy to apply.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would definitely recommend it as it was a good kit that was easy to apply and gave great results.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

My son wanted to wash it off immediately as he didnt like the way it felt on his skin, but if he were to overcome that, then I wouldnt hesitate to buy a snazaroo product in the future.

  1. Yes, my two daughters love dressing up and face painting.
  1. Great quality paints and really easy to use and remove.
  1. We "attempted" the pumpkin and purple spider designs from the Snazaroo book.
  1. The paints were super easy to use and gave a great result. The pigments of the colour was strong but came off easily.
  1. I'd definitely buy Snazaroo face paints and 100% recommend them to my friends and family.
  1. The quality of these face paints are so high and tick all the boxes for me as a mum, so I'd definitely use and buy Snazaroo again. I think they'd be perfect for children's parties and local charity events. I'm by no means a face paint expert/ professional but kids do love having their face painted, so I'd happily step into the role.

I was lucky enough to be picked to take part in this trial of snaZaroo facepaints. We had lots of fun using them and look forward to using them again soon.

Q1. Yes I was aware of snaZaroo face paints before the trial, it is a well known and trusted brand.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween Facepaints

We enjoyed using them and they were extremely easy to use, colours were very limited and didn't cover everything in the included booklet but I suppose you can't have everything.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaints

We tried our own design as my dd wanted to go as a zombie bride, we also tried the dinosaurs which was found within the included booklet.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Extremely easy, it wasn't flawless and took a little practise to know how much water etc was needed but it was very easy to use overall.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely, I thought this even before I had tried it out. It is a well known and respected brand for parents and the only brand I would buy, having tested them this has only re enforced this.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

100% likely, this has made us want to get more colours and try more things, we are excited about the product and this is because it was so easy to use and exciting.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes, I've bought and used Snazaroo face paints before

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Great, the colours were suitable and there was plenty of all of them.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

DS (8) was a werewolf and I was a zombie

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Very easy. The intensity of the colours is great.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely. So easy to use and apply and the instructions that come with the set, and are on the website are easy to follow

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Yes, I would always buy Snazaroo. Cheaper face paints just don't have the coverage or intensity of colour and it's just a waste of money.

katyk81 · 30/10/2015 12:23

Thanks for choosing us to be involved with this product test- I have never used face paints before and am not very arty (or steady handed!) so it was fun to see how we got on.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
I was as they are a brand I have seen used at birthday parties
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I thought there was a reasonable mix of colours and liked the fact that if you were of a mind to there was the ability to blend them. I did find the little individual covers a bit of a faff.
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
My two first attempts were the pumpkin across the eyes and a spider on my son's arm (he doesn't like having his face done!) Despite being a bit wobbly the illustrations were very easy to follow and didn't look too bad.
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Very easy to apply and use- I wish I was more artistic but we had a lot of fun and my daughter seems to have adopted this as her new dress up- ie paint face, leave on for 5 mins, remove and demand a new one!
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes definately, it was easy to use, easy to remove and didn't irritate the skin at all
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

Yes I was.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Really good quality, the paint was easy to apply and stood the test of time (and teatime!)

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

We didn't use a design from the packet, dd wanted to be a witch, so I painted her face green, with black lips and delightful purple accents on her cheeks and eyes!

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Very easy to apply, like watercolour paint, highly pigmented and quick drying... all pretty essential when painting the face of a wriggly 5 year old.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely, I've used them in the past and would do again too.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Yes, I would consider it. I like the quality of the paint, it's quite highly pigmented so it gives a good effect, it's easy to wash off and doesn't stain. As it dries quickly it lasts well too which is a bonus as the kids are always touching their faces so if it didn't dry it would rub off too quickly.

(I'll upload a pic when I get home, it's on my ipad and I'm at work :( )
