This is the feedback thread for the 250 Mumsnetters who have been testing Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint.

Here’s what they say, “Letting children just be children, to play, run and imagine is important for every parent and a little face paint can transform everyday play into a magical world of make-believe.

"Sometimes face painting can be tricky but we’re here to help. We’re always thinking of easy ways for you to create designs children love. As they turn to see who is in the mirror, the magic shared will be remembered long after the paint has been rinsed away.

"Go on, paint a smile and see what happens”

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Good choice of colours, very handy to have a sponge and brush, neat packaging.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? I done my DS(4) dinosaur and DD(6)purple spider mask.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
I had heard of them, but had never used them before.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I really liked them. They were the best facepaints I have ever used. I thought that there was not much in the pack, but it turns out that very little is needed for a strong colouring effect. Even after doing 5 faces, I have some left for Halloween. It had really good staying power, even as the children eat and drunk.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I did various ones - a zombie, lots of moustaches and glasses, a witch, a robot and a Vampire.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
It was very easy to apply. I had to use a larger container than the one on the palette for water - but others than that it went on very smoothly. The brush was good. The sponge worked fine. The colours had a fiddly plastic layer on them and that was hard to remove and I did not know if I should put it back. It was so easy to follow instructions in the booklet - but it looked good even just doing freehand stuff.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would. They are easy to use, last week, strong good colours, and they come off easily enough when the time is right.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
I wouldn't buy anything else. This has taken away my fear of smeary facepaints with weak colours. They really work and I can get closer to what the professionals achieve.

GreatBigHoo · 27/10/2015 14:04
  1. Yes, we already have a set of the more standard 'party' colours.
  1. The Halloween set has a good mix of the sort of colours you'd want. The booklet needed more spooky ideas, though - there were only a handful out of all of them that were Halloween type faces.
  1. I did a ham-fisted version of the pumpkin and witchy faces from the booklet, as pictured.
  1. I find it quite hard to get the consistency of the paint right - either it's too thick or too watery. I also find doing delicate lines very hard. DH is brilliant at it, though, so I suspect it's just my lack of artistic talent that is at fault! He'll be doing the face painting on Halloween evening.
  1. I would definitely recommend Snazaroo paints. The sets look a bit small, but the paints go a long way and last for ages. I was initially wary of using face paints on my children because I well remember getting some as a child that brought me out in terrible hives! The Snazaroo ones don't seem to cause any problems, though, even when on for several hours, and they come off easily too.
  1. Absolutely would buy them again, yes. The colours are good, and the sets are very good value.

Thank you for our face paints! Answers below.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes, we had a set of Snazaroo face paints which had been given as a gift.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I really like them, although wish there were a better "next level up from basic" kit available.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
We did the spooky purple mask with spidery detail

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Not that easy to be honest. I also didn't find the suggestions that good for Halloween. The design that we chose was very hard to apply accurately with the sponge (as directed).

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would recommend them as I think they're the best easily available kits and people trust them. Doesn't mean they couldn't be better though!

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Quite likely. I'd like to get a more comprehensive kit with glittery bits. I didn't think this kit enabled you to do much and couldn't see what was Halloweeny about it other than the orange paint.

YourBubzYourRulzHun · 27/10/2015 15:44

Q1. Yes I have bought them before.

Q2. Good strong bold colours, perfect for witches faces, pumpkins, skeletons etc.

Q3. Devil, wolf and witch

Q4. Very easy, I used the fine paint brush that came with the set.

Q5. Yes definitely, my other sets of Snazaroo face paints have lasted for ages.

Q6. I would not hesitate to buy them again. It washes off easily and doesn't irritate skin.

Thank you for choosing us to review Snazaroo!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test? No I had not heard of them
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Much better than the ones I have bought in the past
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Skeleton
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use? Very easy to apply and also to remove
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would recommend because of how easy it was to apply and remove
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why. I would because it is really blendable and didnt make DS's skin red or itchy like previous face paints

KittyKat88 · 27/10/2015 17:28

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes - I'd used a set to paint mine and other kids' faces at one my DD's birthday party recently
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
A good selection of colours although a couple of shades of green would have been good, for witches faces etc
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
My DDs had a look but in the end they both wanted to choose their own, so we searched for images they liked. I also needed to find designs that wouldn't take too long as both were impatient to see the end results!
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Very easy with the sponge, but the brush was a bit too thick to get more detailed lines in the designs.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, absolutely!! It is easy/smooth to apply (if too thick just thin with water) and is more smudge resistant than you'd expect, whilst at the same time also very easy to remove and doesn't leave any residue.
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
This would be my first choice. I trust the brand and know it is a quality face paint, suitable for children without nasty chemicals like parabens! As an 'amateur' face painter I also think I can obtain great results using snazaroo with reasonably little effort! 10/10

Cosmochicklitan · 27/10/2015 20:42

Q1: Yes, we had heard of Snazaroo before, but had never tried it.
Q2: We absolutely loved this product! Our little one loves having her face painted. Whenever we are at places where they offer face-painting, she is first in the queue. A few months back we bought some face-paints from a different brand, but were utterly disappointed. The Snazaroo Halloween face-paint set however, is fantastic. So easy to apply (we loved the little step-by-step guide that was included) and long-lasting. Washing it off in the bathtub in the evening, wasn't a problem either.
Q3: We tried a few different ones, but our favourite one was a pumpkin.
Q4: Extremely easy to use! We loved the fact, that it was no hardship at all to apply. The colour is strong and the face is easily painted with one layer.
Q5: Yes, we would definitely recommend this product to family and friends. The biggest positive for us is that this face-paint is so long-lasting.
Q6: We will definitely purchase Snazaroo face-paints in the future! In fact, after loving the Halloween face-paint set so much, Snazaroo would be our first choice.

We received the Snazaroo Halloween face paint and we were delighted with the product and the results. It really is quite easy and a lovely bonding time with the kids whilst they can't move....that doesn't happen very often! :)

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
I had seen Snazaroo used at birthday parties, but I hadn't actually used them myself.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
The paint set was very well packaged and really easy to use. I'm a novice and after reading the instructions we got quite creative.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I'm very bad at drawing and was a little apprehensive but I managed to draw a bat and pumpkin and then did smaller versions of them on their hands too.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
It was very easy to use. As I'm bad at drawing I made sure I had plenty of tissues at hand to rub out and start again or wipe away mistakes and drips. I did put too much water on my brush the first time, but that was easily and quickly rectified before I caused too much mess! You only need a little water on the brush to get the paint to initially adhere to the brush.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Definitely. They are easy to use, kind to the skin (which is essential), easy to come off without too much pulling on delicate skins. It really adds a bit extra to parties and Halloween parties.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
I would definitely buy this, the kids enjoy it and I actually enjoyed applying it and getting creative too. Once I get more creative the boys might want to do some on me....so will definitely need more paint!

LittleStarandMe · 27/10/2015 22:28

Wow some great painting on this thread! I must up my game ha!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes I have used them before (have had 2 facepaint sets in the last year, 1 a supermarket own brand and the other Snazaroo - the Snazaroo was noticeably superior in terms of ease of application, intensity of colour and longevity).

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
I liked the packaging - was handy having the design ideas on the box too so a couple of us could look for ideas at one time. I found the colour choice a little limiting (no pink!) but then I guess these were perfect Halloween colours and my 4 year old daughter understood that. I found the bits of plastic over the individual colours very fiddly to remove and ended up with paint under my nails when I did this.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
We tried a few - the butterfly x3, the purple bat / spider mask and a rainbow too. I look at the website for more inspiration - it would have been good to have a couple more non Halloween ideas in the booklet (my daughter didn't want anything scary!) but it was easy to go on the website to look.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
I didn't realise that I needed to add water to start with but when I did it made much easier to apply. I wetted all of the paint then kept my brush wet when applying. I found that the paint went on easily when slightly wet and was easy to blend with the sponge. I found I had to really rinse the brush out between layers (especially if going from a dark colour to white). I tried using a regular paintbrush as well but my daughter complained it was scratchy. So I guess that at least means that she found the Snazaroo brush nice and soft! The paint came off easily in the bath / shower too and almost all off with wipes.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Definitely! For reasons I've mostly covered - I think the paints are good quality and know that they are formulated to be gentle on the skin too. I like how you can buy specific kits too with smaller amounts of paints instead of shelling out for larger pads of individual colours.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Definitely - they do the job well, reasonably priced, I like the branding and they are easy to find in the shops or online.

Mama2bubs · 27/10/2015 22:32

Q1. I'd heard of snazaroo before but never tried them myself.

Q2. It was a good set with a nice selection of colours. I would have liked more advice with the instruction booklet. I went online to get a few tips as I've never used face paints before.

Q3. I attempted the vampire and the pumpkin.

Q4. I think it will get easier with practice. The sponge was very easy to use. I found the brush a little difficult to use, it was hard to do the finer details, and I had to correct my mistakes a few times. However this was my first ever attempt at facepainting, and I think I may have used too much water. My sons thought they looked great so I can't have been too bad.

Q5. Yes I would recommend them. I was pleasantly surprised by how easy the facepaints washed off.

Q6. I would happily buy Snazaroo in the future. We had lots of fun and it's nice to do something creative with the kids.

Wibblytummy · 28/10/2015 10:48

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test? I couldn't have told you the brand name but I'd of recognised you as being the big brand in that area.
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Liked it. We enjoyed the ideas with simple instructions. Nice to get a sponge and brush too.
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? The simple pumpkins. It was for my 2yr old and my 4yr old - neither who sit still for very long so this looked like a good starting point for face paint novices!
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use? Very (once I went back and calmed my eagerness and re-read about wetting the sponge and brush! Blush ) Only thing I found was it could be tricky getting the sponge in to the small disc for a decent application of a solid colour.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes, definitely. Brilliant to use and fab ideas and guide inside for beginners like me!
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why. Most likely to be the brand I pick. My family and I have sensitive skin. As a child I always got a rash from face paints but this has had no effect on my (the kids treated me to a face paint too!) nor them. Now I trust this brand I'd be most likely to stick with it as long as the quality remains.

Thanks for the chance to test! We've loved it and now Father Christmas has been asked for a bigger pack with more colours in for a Christmas present!

PossumMama · 28/10/2015 10:52

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes. I've bought them for home use and for school events.
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
A really good selection of colours.
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
Vampire/zombie
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
It was very easy. The brush was a good size. The only problem was washing the sponge between faces/colours.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes. It went on well, stayed on for a reasonable period and washed off easily.
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Very likely- for a range of colours on one palate. But- for school events we run out of colours quickly so larger discs of colour would be useful. Plus we have discovered the rainbow palates that other brands offer that are effective and easy to use.

PhoenixMama · 28/10/2015 10:57

We have had great fun with the face paints. Mostly with DD taking charge of the design and application!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes - my daughter was given some as a present for her 4th birthday.

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
It was a BIG hit. I'm not big on letting DD paint faces so the kit and the fact that it was Halloween themed led to loads of fun. Would be good to have some more halloween themed design ideas though!

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?
My daughter did a few of her own designs (a pirate on me and a "red dalmatian"on herself. But also followed the clown design on her poor cousin!

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?
Really easy. Had a few issues getting the darker colours off completely but got there with baby oil in the end.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes - great colour quality, no smudging, easy to use.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.
Would definitely buy - made DD ridiculously happy & great quality product - especially as she has very sensitive skin.

Nauje · 28/10/2015 11:50

We really enjoyed testing this product! My 5 year old son has always refused to have his face painted up unti now. Recently he has been showing interest in having it done, but bailing out when we are at an event where it's offered! This was great as we were able to paint the design in the comfort of our own home, and he realised that actually it's great fun!

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test? Yes, but I've never used them only seen them in the shops
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween Face Paint? Good - appropriate selection of colours for the theme and a good number of them to create lots of different designs. Love that the pack comes with idea brochure and the tools required - sponge and brush
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? My son flicked through the pictures in the idea book and chose to be a knight.
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use? It went on easily with a little water, though if you add too much water it just rubs off as you apply it! The sponge gave good coverage for large areas and the paintbrush made it easy to apply smaller details. The paints came off easily in the bath with water at the end of the day.
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not? Yes I would.
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why. Yes I would - easy to use, good value, good selection of colours. The design booklet was good as it helped my son think what he'd like, and it helped me to create the look for him.

A really good product. The book had a lot of great ideas and the paints were really good quality.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

A tiger.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Really easy to use and in fact, my 11 year old also used the book and paints to try it out and was successful.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely! The paints are good quality and the book has some really good ideas. It's more than what I would need/look for when buying facepaint.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Absolutely would consider buying Snazaroo simply for the reasons mentioned above.

GladysTheGolem · 28/10/2015 12:47

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?
Yes, I used to use them as a child, I didn't realise they were still around!
Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Great, good colours that went on well.
Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint? Pumpkin (& tiger, always a tiger)!
Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use? Very easy, went on smoothly, didn't smell bad etc
Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, sensitive skinned ds1 is fine after using them.
Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why. Very likely, enjoyed using them, would do again.

nushcar · 28/10/2015 14:07

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test?

No

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Well packaged, good quality face paints, good range of colour, happy that sponge was included and also tips as to faces could paint.

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

Rainbow and clouds on my daughter, pumpkin on son as a taster, but will do proper face paint on Halloween night.

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

Very easy to use, looked much more professional than others used. Really looked high quality colour, just like ones a professional face painter would use.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely recommend as it is a good quality product and so assist those that aren't necessarily as artistically talented as they wish. I have tried crayon face paints before instead of this palette style and seemed harsher on skin and was not as easy to use.

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

Yes, as I am wary of using cheap and harsh products on my kids skin and would not mind paying more for quality products that have a nicer effect. That said, it is all subject to cost, not sure how much this costs normally as I got it free for the trial.

Q1. Were you aware of Snazaroo face paints before taking part in this product test? - Yes, they're the main brand I would think of when I think of Face paint

Q2. What were your overall impressions of Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

  • I found them good enough quality and easy to to use. They did seem better than some cheap non brand ones that I have bought before. I was happy with them

Q3. Which facepaint design did you use on your DC to test out Snazaroo’s Halloween facepaint?

  • So far, we did a knight, a fox and harry potter

Q4. How easy did you find the face paint to apply and use?

  • Quite easy. I'm not very skilled at face paint but the instruction booklet was helpful and when using plenty of water to mix the colours, they all went on well enough.

Q5. If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Snazaroo facepaint to friends and/or family? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes, because it worked well and was easy to use and I think they are quite affordable too

Q6. In future, how likely are you to consider buying Snazaroo facepaint if you were in need of face paint? Please explain why.

  • Yes I would, for the reasons mentioned above

Q1. I am aware of Snazaroo, my children's faces have been painted using it at parties.

Q2. I loved it but there could have been more white plus another sponge. I am the least creative person I know and even I didn't mess it up.

Q3. We've had a busy week so we have had a witch, a fox and a tiger.

Q4. It went on easily once I remembered to add the water!

Q5. I would recommend it as it gave good coverage and it came off really easily with a wipe. The booklet was good for amateurs like me.

Q6. I would definitely buy it, my DD would like the primary and pastel colours. I have used a very cheap face paint before and the difference is evident.

We have used Snazaroo products before and so were confident that they are good quality. We were not disappointed by the Halloween kit! We have done a vampire, devil and witch and plan to try a pumpkin next. The face paint is really easy to apply and a little goes a long way. I would definitely recommend these face paints as the best ones to use and would only buy this brand myself now as it is so much better than others I have tried. Thanks for the free sample - from a big fan!!
