Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
It was a lovely looking restaurant with a nice ambiance, the staff we encountered were helpful and friendly. There was seating at entrance level, I collapsed my daughter's pushchair and stowed it out of the way. The table was roomy, though a little high for my daughter. The walls were covered in various photos, mirrors and paintings etc - so it didn't feel like we were in a restaurant that was part of a chain. By the time we left there was another family with a small child who had turned up, otherwise there were several adult-only groups.

How would you rate the food quality?
It was great, the various things we ordered were freshly made and tasty. The portion sizes were good.

How would you rate the selection of food - grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
There was a good selection for grown ups but not so much for kids - as my daughter has a cow's milk protein allergy we had to opt for an adult option. I asked for fruit and was told there wasn't any, so that was a bit of a downside. Plus the lack of straws meant I had to hold the glass as my daughter drank her juice.
My hubby had the cooked veggie breakfast. I had a pastry twist with hot chocolate (as I'd already had breakfast at home), but since my daughter didn't eat the ciabatta egg sandwich - I ate it. My son had the happy face pancake which he happily gobbled down. The kids had orange juice which they liked and happily drank.
There was a note on the menu about catering for certain types of diet (gluten free etc) but in our case there wasn't anything particularly catered for children which fitted the bill.

What was the best part about your experience?
I managed to book it for the Monday just gone, which was my wedding anniversary - so I think it was nice to be able to get out early in the day with the children.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Yes, the waitress was lovely - she acknowledged the kids too at several points in the time we were there so that was great as my two are quite sociable.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

And lastly, would you go again?
Possibly, but maybe without my daughter as I don't feel there was enough to entice her to eat, but she can be a fussy eater.

I rang to book a table on Saturday morning as we were already in town. The lady on the phone was happy for us to come in as soon as we liked.
It is a lovely restaurant and we could manoeuvre our double pram in the front door and through the restaurant to our table with no problems.
It was very quiet in there and the waitress and manager were extremely attentive. Our twins are 14 months old and very fidgety, the manager offered balloons to try and keep them entertained.

As someone mentioned previously there is a lot of choice for adults (I had the bella breakfast and my partner the gigantie) but not such a wide choice for children (our 2 older ones had cooked breakfast and the babies has the pancakes).
My only grumble is that the food does seem to take a while to come out, however if I didn't have the babies that wouldn't have bothered me at all (and it might only seem to take ages as you have to keep them entertained!). The food was delicious and good quality.
The best thing about our experience was my delicious latte and how friendly the staff were.
I didn't know bella italia did breakfast and would go again (without the twins), for breakfast, lunch or dinner

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
We loved it. We were greeted at the door by the waitress which was a nice start. The restaurant was really clean and beautifully decorated. There was cheerful music being played in the background which created a nice atmosphere. The restaurant tables were set out so that you had your own space and didn't feel encroached on by other diners.

How would you rate the food quality?
My DH has the gigante breakfast which was similar to the full English breakfast and he said was hot, tasty and a good portion size without being too much and leaving you feeling uncomfortable.
I had the vegetarian breakfast which included sliced avocado which was a nice touch. The food was hot and tasty and again a perfect portion size. My DD had the pancake and fruit stack which was a pancake stack with fresh strawberries and came with a small jug of maple syrup. She thought it was delicious and really enjoyed eating it.
My DS had a Bella breakfast which was a smaller English breakfast. He loved it. He said the sausage was delicious and cooked perfectly!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
We felt that the selection of food was great enough for us. There was a selection of snack foods, some cooked food options and other sandwich type options. We had no difficulty choosing something to eat.

What was the best part about your experience?
We didn't really have one best part. We felt that we were looked after from the minute we entered the restaurant and offered drinks almost immediately. The drinks were delivered and we were given time to sit and chat and relax which is unusual for a family meal in a restaurant!
We then chose our food and our food was delivered after a short wait. The restaurant was clean and tidy and the toilets were immaculate. The waitress was friendly and helpful. She checked back to make sure that everything was ok for us. It was.
The food was delicious, the coffee was tasty. We had a very enjoyable visit.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
As I mentioned previously, we were greeted by a friendly waitress as we arrived at the restaurant - we felt welcome immediately.
She continued to be kind and efficient and gave the impression that nothing was too much trouble.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No, I didn't - I have visited in the evening before now but didn't realise that they did breakfasts. I have now told friends via social media that Bella Italia offer this.

And lastly, would you go again?
Absolutely. We loved it and feel it is a great shame that there is not a Bella Italia in our nearest town (SP1). If however we are on a shopping trip in that direction we would be in there like shot.

Thank you for choosing me for the Bella product test. I went with my DP and DD last weekend and it was really good.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

I found the restaurant a great place to visit. It was easy to get to with plenty of parking. The restaurant was spacious and you didn't feel like the tables were on top of each other, like in most other chain restaurants. We were seated immediately and a high chair was provided for my 10 month old dd. It was fairly quiet, which was nice for a laid back breakfast experience and there were two other families eating too which added to the 'family' atmosphere.

How would you rate the food quality?

We loved the breakfast. The food was all freshly cooked and my food (and what I tried of DP's) was good quality and not cheap tasting at all, which I often find with bacon/sausages when eating out for breakfast.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

The selection of food from the adult menu is great. There's loads to choose from and I feel it caters for everyone's tastes. I think even the fussiest eater would find something they liked on the menu. I like that there's smaller pastries, sandwiches and also bigger breakfasts so you can have a smaller breakfast if you fancy it. I had the bacon pancake stack which was very nice and the perfect sized portion, but I was expecting the bacon to be crispier. My DP had the Gigante Breakfast which was a huge portion. He said it was delicious and the parts I tried were very tasty. He also had a hazelnut latte which included free refills. This was a nice touch as DP drinks lots of soft drinks when we are eating out and this adds to the bill. I ordered the happy face pancake for my DD but asked for just the pancake and fruit as she's only 10 months old. I didn't expect her to eat much but she wolfed it down.

What was the best part about your experience?

The laid back atmosphere in the restaurant, and the free hot drink refills.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The staff were very friendly. We were welcomed as soon as we walked through the door and seated immediately. We were served quickly and the lady who served us was lovely.

No I wasn't aware of the breakfast menu.

And lastly, would you go again?

Definitely. My DP wants to go back to try the breakfast pizza!

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

The restaurant was well decorated and had a nice feel. We were quickly seated and the children were given packs to keep them entertained which they enjoyed. It was quiet with only a couple of other diners.

How would you rate the food quality?

Our breakfasts were well presented, fresh and good quality although I would say that the pancakes could have been better. They were not as soft and fluffy as breakfast pancakes normally are and they had got a little chewy but the end. Also the maple syrup served with them was more like golden syrup than maple.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

The breakfast menu is varied and we had plenty of choice. Both adults chooses pancakes, one with the bacon and one with the banana and strawberry slices. The childrens menu however was very limited and meant that one of my children (who's known to be fussy) did not like either of the options and chose to have buttered croissants instead. My youngest child had the smiley face pancake and really enjoyed his breakfast looking like a happy face and enjoyed eating it too!

What was the best part about your experience?

The best part of the experience was the customer service we received. Our waitress was very attentive and we were not left waiting for anything. She was also great with the children and provided then with helium balloons at the end of the meal.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The service was friendly and welcoming from both the members of staff that served us.

Yes I had received emails about it.

And lastly, would you go again?

Yes, although I'm not sure I would have the pancakes again the croissants were delicious and there's plenty of other options on the menu. The price is also very reasonable.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
It was ok, but there were elements of family friendliness that could have been improved and a couple of safety issues that concerned me.

How would you rate the food quality?
The food itself was delicious and well cooked, so no problems there! DH had the Gigante breakfast and enjoyed it a lot. I had the vegetarian breakfast and while it was very nice, I was left feeling a little hungry. It would have been nice to have included a slice or two of toast with it. DD1 (4 YO) had the happy face pancake and the portion was too small for her. She'd normally eat two or three pancakes that size! She ended up stealing food off DH's plate.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
The selection of food for adults was good. I'd like to have seen another option for children however as there were only two available. I'd also like to see an option for different drinks for children, the only choice was orange juice. Might have been nice to have milk as an option, or apple juice.
For children, I'd also like to see their part of the menu with pictures of the dishes. DD1 can't read yet, but likes to be independent. A picture would help her choose what she wanted to eat without relying on DH or I to read it out to her, and help her to remember the options while deciding!

What was the best part about your experience?
The food. It was very tasty.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
The service wasn't bad or unfriendly, but the waiter wasn't particularly attentive given that for a period of time we were the only people in the restaurant.
We had a few issues around DD2, who is 5 months old and just starting weaning. She was struggling to sit in the high chair as it was designed for older children rather than babies and we ended up padding her in with my coat.
We asked about having a pot of baby food warmed up and were initially told no, then they thought about it a bit and offered us some hot water to warm it up in. We agreed and were brought a tall beaker of scolding hot water to the table that we quickly relocated away from any children - safety issue one. We had to prompt again for a smaller bowl to carefully (no pouring spout) decant some water into in order to be able to warm up the pot of puree.
Safety issue two was that the cutlery out on the table was a fork and a steak knife. I'd expect the waiter to have immediately whipped away the steak knife that was set in front of DD1 when she sat down and replace it with a blunt ended knife, but he didn't. In fact it wasn't even replaced when her food came. DH and I moved the knife and DD1 is relatively sensible, but potentially arming a small child with a pointy ended sharp knife is not a good plan!
The waiter did however bring DD1 an entertainment pack. I had a flick through and it seemed nicely done, with various things for different age groups. There was an encouragement to post family pictures to social media about being at Bella that I found a little uncomfortable, but I'm relatively wary in that regard. DD1 particularly loved the stackable colouring crayon with the sections that could be swapped around!
For the bathrooms, DH tested whether he could get to the changing facilities with DD2 and he could as they were in the disabled toilet, so that was good.
I took DD1 into the ladies toilets. The cubicles were a good size so we could go in together without being squashed like sardines. DD1 struggled to reach the taps and the hand dryer, however. Would have been nice to see a step stool available so I didn't have to lift her up. Fortunately I'm physically capable of lifting her, but some parents wouldn't be!

No, we had no idea that Bella did breakfasts.

And lastly, would you go again?
Maybe. We don't usually breakfast out, but if we were making a day trip and set off early with the plan to stop on route for breakfast then we might consider it. Probably when the girls are a bit bigger though as they don't seem very well set up for small children at present!

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
The restaurant was nice, clearly recently refurbed - was quiet and the kids entertainment bag was miles better than other places. The kids loved the crayons.

How would you rate the food quality?
Average.
Some aspects were good - DP said the sausages were lovely, and the bacon was nice and thick.
I had issues with the pancakes on offer - they were dry and the syrup was cheap. Seemed like Golden Syrup or similar, and pancakes and bacon should be served with maple syrup. Bacon served with pancakes should be streaky and crisp - not back bacon with stringy fat.
Our largest issue was the timing and warmth. There was obviously an issue with our order (I heard the waiter try to deliver one of our meals to the next table mistakenly), and it was about 40 mins from order to food coming out. The meals were all different temperatures. Pancakes were lukewarm, but sausages were piping hot. Even within the same meal - the large breakfast had almost cold eggs and hot meat. I didn't eat my breakfast as the pancakes were dry and almost cold.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
I thought there was a decent range of adult options, but the children's menu was lacking. To be fair, both of my children had something from the standard menu, so this wasn't an issue for us, but for younger children there was only two choices.
There was little to no fruit options on the menu which I thought was a shame.
DP had the large breakfast, DD and I had pancakes and bacon, and DS opted for a bacon ciabatta roll. DD wolfed the pancakes (she obv not that fussed about bacon/pancake specifics), then ate mine as I didn't eat it (it wasn't very nice).

What was the best part about your experience?
The kids bag of colouring and crayons.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
The waiting staff were generally fine. I thought the wait for food was too long, particularly given how few people there were in the restaurant. When we arrived, the waiter just pointed us to a table, I had to guess which one it was. When we were waiting for the food, it was clear there was an issue with the order - why didn't someone just come and say something? Mistakes are mistakes! They happen! It would have made sense for someone to come over and just tell us there would be a little wait, and apologise - but we didn't get this, and had to ask where the food was.
As we left, the manager spoke to me and apologised - but she was holding the MN letter that I took with me
There were other customers there with a little baby, the staff seemed very attentive.

Probably not. It wasn't awful - and to be fair, if there wasn't an issue with our order and it was all hot, it would have been a lot better.

We went this morning - my two boys (9 and 7) and I.
Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Ds 2 says it was really, really good. It was pretty empty and we chose where we wanted to sit.
How would you rate the food quality?
Both DS chose the fruity pancakes and thought they were delicious - ate every last mouthful. I had an avocado and mozzarella and tomato ciabatta because I'm not really a fan of English breakfasts and it was very nice without being exceptional. My cappuccino was good though.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
The selection was good although a bit limited by having to be 'breakfast' themed. I thought the breakfast pizza sounded quite horrible, but I get that pizza is part of the brand!
What was the best part about your experience? The boys loved their pancakes and fresh orange juice and they liked the very kind and friendly waitress.

And lastly, would you go again? Yes. I wouldn't normally go out for breakfast in my home town because it seems an extravagance but if staying in a cheap hotel overnight somewhere I would make the effort to seek out a Bella for breakfast now because my boys enjoyed it so much.

We went this morning (me, DH, 4yo & 18mo DC - and 2wo DC, but she didn't have breakfast!)

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

Nice and spacious, with space for the pushchair. Not too crowded in terms of tables pushed close together, but it was pretty empty while we were there. We weren't given the children's activity pack, which we have had in the past so had to keep the children amused ourselves. (With a 2wo, that was a bit of a struggle! ) The food came very quickly though.

How would you rate the food quality?

Food was tasty and nicely cooked. I was a bit surprised that the children's banana and strawberry pancake (Happy Face Pancake) that the 4yo ate had 2 very thin slices of banana (having looked at the picture on the menu online since coming home, it looks like he was supposed to have a good bit more banana), perhaps at most one strawberry chopped up and only one pancake, so not really enough for my 18mo, never mind the 4yo, or a 10yo as the menu suggests. She had the much better children's cooked breakfast (Kids Breakfast) that was far more filling. He did rate his pancake as 100 out of 10 though! (Future Apprentice candidate in the making there...) The coffee was lovely and hot.

Good selection for the grown ups. Two choices for the children, one of which was really not enough for a breakfast! DH had the Gigante breakfast, which was delicious and he thinks very good value at £8.95. I had the bacon pancake stack, which was tasty although I like my bacon a bit crispier.

What was the best part about your experience?

A nice treat to go out for brunch with the family.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The service was very good, even if there was a bit of confusion about emails etc. (The manager said I needed a printout of the MN email as well as the attached letter, which wasn't clear from the MN email.)

Only since this product test was advertised. We did use a BOGOF voucher that someone linked to on the original thread a few weeks ago.

And lastly, would you go again?

Yes, all very nice and friendly, with decent food. It isn't glamorous or fine dining but just right for being out with little children.

Generally how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast

DS (10), my boyfriend and I went there on Sunday for breakfast. The atmosphere was pleasant although quiet (we were the only people there at 9:30 on a Sunday morning )

How would you rate the food quality?

DS really enjoyed his create your own omelette which he said was very tasty. I found the vegetarian breakfast good and my bf liked the pancakes although he said they seemed like they had been bought in and microwaved.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

DS is 10 and chose from the adult menu as his appetite is generally larger than the amount on children's meals. I think he was probably right given the size of the adult portions. The children's menu did seem quite limited.

What was the best part about your experience?

Tasty omelette said DS.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The service was friendly although it took nearly 30 minutes to receive our food which given the amount of people in there seemed a little long. Fine with one 10 year old but would have been more challenging with younger children.

I was pleasantly surprised, i thought it was a great environment, relaxed and was a comfortable atmosphere.

How would you rate the food quality?

The food was great, as expected. Not amazingly good but great. Portion size was good and tasted great.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

I had a Bella Breakfast and my daughter had the Kids Breakfast. I thought the choice was great, there was something for everyone and the childrens food was suitable for what i would want my child to have.
As said, the portion size was perfect for us both, especially for my 9 year old. We visit many food places and she is getting to the age where the portion sizes for kids meals are never enough, but this was just right!

I also liked the fact that because my daughter didnt want scrambled egg -sausage was offered as a replacement.

What was the best part about your experience?

The best part was the friendliness of ALL the staff. They were lovely and very friendly and welcoming.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

Welcoming, clean, fresh, bright and appealing restaurant. Very family orientated.
How would you rate the food quality?

Generally very good, let down slightly by the fried potatoes on the veggie breakfast, which were either left over from the previous day or had spent a long time under a heat lamp. The girls' pancakes didn't appear to be homemade, but this isn't important to them.
How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

It must be quite hard to do Italian themed breakfasts to suit English tastes and expectations, but there is a large selection on the menu. I should think there would be something for everyone there. As others have said, there are only two choices for children, and I would add to that that the age should be revised downwards from 'under 10' , as the portions were quite small. We chose:

Me: Veggie breakfast. Nice cooked breakfast, although without any sausage or anything similar. Sliced avocado - hmm. Palmed it off on DH. Chestnut mushrooms were lovely, two nicely cooked fried eggs, but the potatoes as mentioned before were pretty inedible. Would have preferred a slice of bread as with the Bella Breakfast.
DH: Bella Breakfast. Again, perfectly nice cooked breakfast - not huge portions (they have a 'gigante' option if you eat meat) but pretty decent. No complaints.
DD1 & 2: They both chose the smiley face pancake, which looked very appealing, and a fun mix of fruit and sugary stuff. It was just right for the 4yr old, but on the small side for the 10yr old (fair enough, the menu states 'under 10s' but she still eats from children's menus everywhere) although she enjoyed it and thought it was really cute.
DS: Breakfast pizza. Sounded completely wrong, turned out to be the best thing anyone ordered. Looked fresh, appealing and full of tasty toppings. He loved it. (Well he is a teenage boy)
What was the best part about your experience?
The cappuccino top-ups were very welcome. The service was good and it was just great to have a relaxing catch up and chat with my family while having a treat breakfast.
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Very. (We were the only people in the restaurant for most of the time) The two staff who served us were cheerful, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. They were sweet with the children, having fun packs already on the table and bringing them balloons.

Didn't really occur to me - may have been vaguely aware, but it's not something I'd have thought of doing.

And lastly, would you go again?

For breakfast, not sure unless we were around at that time anyway, but certainly for lunch or dinner.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast? It was ok - service was fine, food was average. It lacked atmosphere but was quite peaceful - as we went at 11 am on a weekday it was no surprise that it wasn't busier. It was in a shopping centre so was a little soulless.
How would you rate the food quality? Pancakes with strawberries was good, but I found my bacon and pancakes disappointing. The bacon was the fatty/ pink type rather than the browner / crispier variety and the pancakes didn't taste freshly cooked and soft. My daughter's gigantic breakfast w average too - nothing was that hot, and the quality of ingredients was average - so taste wasn't overly impressive.
How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose? I think the selection of food available was good - pretty much something to suit everyone. Our party had pancakes with strawberries ( they kindly removed the bananas, as requested, and added extra strawberries), bacon and pancakes, and the gigantic cooked breakfast.
What was the best part about your experience? It was free!
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming? Yes, it was fine. Not outstanding, but available when we needed it and left as happily to our own devices when we didn't.

Would I return? No. I don't go out for breakfast that often and would choose a place more geared towards breakfast and that was more tried and tested / known of.

The food was great, really good size adult portions and it was nice and hot when it arrived at the table. I think the childrens portion sizes should of been a bit bigger really.

The food was lovely, there was a great adult choice however there wasn't much for the kids to choose from. One of our daughters had the bella breakfast but doesn't like eggs so we asked if they could replace the eggs with a sausage and the waiter was very happy to do this. Another of our daughters had the happy face pancake which she loved but was left feeling hungry still (aged 10). Our other daughter opted for the fruity pancake stack and loved it. My husband chose the steak but had food envy when he saw my breakfast pizza arrive.

We enjoyed the whole experience of visiting somewhere we've never been before

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The staff were really friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The manager even popped over to say hello and to check everything was ok for us.
