The food was good,= and of a fair quality.

Being free and also the excellent customer service received.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Yes definitely.

shrunkenhead · 16/11/2014 20:52

Thanks Mumsnet for our chance to test out Bella Italia's brekkie menu.
We found it warm and clean, inviting.
The quality of food was very nice.
Selection of food, plenty of choice for adults but limited for kids, only two options would have liked a few more kids' options.
I had the mozzarella, tomato and pesto ciabatta, dh had the huge full English and dd had kids brekkie.
Best bit was the friendly nature of the staff.
The service was v warm and welcoming and great with children.
I didn't know they did breakfast.
Would we go again? Not sure if we'd go for breakfast as we prefer eating Italian food for lunch/tea. And you can get a full English anywhere. Would go again for an evening meal to enjoy pasta or pizza.

We visited Cranbourn Street in London this morning and overall a very enjoyable and tasty brunch, thanks Bella Italia and Mumsnet.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

We found the venue very welcoming and when we entered we were greeted straight away with a smile and invited to pick our table. The places seemed clean and staff were busy attending to customers or organising the restaurant.

There was a great kids pack which was a cut above the usal kids pack. This contained a very engaging quiz book and a very cool pencil with multiple coloured crayon leads inside. This seemed very well thought out really kept my kids occupied.

There was a specific kids menu but my kids had dishes from the adult menu. I am not sure what age the children's menu is aimed at but my boys aged 5 and 8 polished off their adult dishes and when I asked about the kids pancakes for example this dish seemed quite small for my hungry boys...

How would you rate the food quality?

I though the food was very good quality. The dishes tasted fresh and the meat and fruit I could tell were good quality as mentioned below.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

I chose the omelette with spinach peppers and cheese which was outstanding: this was fresh, fluffy and generously stuffed with fresh ingredients. My children had the stacked pancakes and fruit and the steak and fried eggs (with mushroom and chipped potatoes). They really enjoyed their meals and these were well presented and used high quality ingredients (nice looking fruit and good quality steak).

There was a great choice of food and we had a hard time choosing what to eat!

What was the best part about your experience?

Hard to pick one aspect of the visit to single out, however, the restaurnt had a nice laid back vibe which made it a great brunch place. It was well organised, food came promptly but nothing felt rushed. Staff maintained a good balance of being helpful and attentive but not intrusive or making us feel rushed. The made for a good experience with children.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Service was very friendly and welcoming. The waitress spoke to the children as well as me and was very friendly and helpful, for example, providing extra information on the dishes to help us make our choice. The staff seemed genuinely friendly to all customers in the restaurant and this made for a good atmosphere.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No I was not aware of this.

And lastly, would you go again

Yes, if I were in the area.

SkyWasFullOfWickedWitches · 16/11/2014 22:07

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

We went to Bella Italia Irving Street, London. It is a busy area - basically Leicester Square but the atmosphere was warm and comfortable. The kids got crayons and paper immediately, which was really nice for us. also, they gave us a cute booth where we could all sit beside each other. The kids loved it.

How would you rate the food quality?

The food was OK. We are pretty into food so our expectations are quite high. For the menu prices the quality was reasonable but I feel the dishes lacked complexity and could be a bit more exciting without too much extra cost/effort.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

There were lots of options for adults but the children's selection was small. No savoury vegetarian options for kids. The DC's both had the pancakes which were cute but far too small even for them aged 4 & 5. I think either a pancake double the width or a mini stack would have been better. DD loved hers and scraped the plate, DSD loved the presentation but was put off by the golden syrup as she isn't so into sweets but likes maple syrup on pancakes. She ended up eating a side of baked beans and some of my bacon and steak from the steak and eggs I ordered. Mine was nice. The eggs were cooked perfectly and it was a nice sized steak cooked properly but not at all seasoned. My only real complaint is my mushrooms were a bit cold. DP had the veg breakfast which was ok but not nearly enough food for him - I've noticed male veggies like really big portions. It would have been nice to have a basket of toast and some butter and jams for everyone to share and sauces at the table. We love brown sauce, hot sauce, mustard, and mayo.

What was the best part about your experience?

The servers were really lovely. They were relaxed but professional and friendly without being intrusive. We were really comfortable.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

See above. And I'm from North America where the service is great... I am picky about service in the UK but these servers were really lovely.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No, I didn't think It did.

And lastly, would you go again?

I would take DD for the pancake. She loved it and she almost never eats without a standoff or some kind of negotiation. Next time I would probably try the pasta though. The table across from us had pasta and it smelled great!

sarahbanshee · 17/11/2014 08:11

Markmyplace13 - I hadn't seen your review, oh dear. No pancakes as a regular absence is no good when that's half the kids menu!

I forgot to mention that they were a bit funny about the letter and the manager made me forward the email from Mumsnet to her as well.

craftykamo · 18/11/2014 01:05

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

We visited the new Bella Italia in Peterborough, as it's only been open a few months the building was spotless and it was pretty quiet - word obviously hasn't got around yet that it's open for breakfast. We were quickly shown to a table by the attentive staff.

How would you rate the food quality?

The quality of the food was OK, not the most amazing food I've ever eaten but edible and we all cleared our plates. My husband commented on how good it was to see properly rendered bacon!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

My husband and I chose the Gigante breakfast - we both felt that there should have been an option between the Bella breakfast and the Gigante with an extra sausage and mushrooms, but without the potatoes etc.

My almost four-year-old chose the Happy Face Pancake. I think Bella Italia need to highlight on the menu that this is a small breakfast. My son wolfed his pancake down, but then wanted more food - good job I'd ordered the Gigante as I then gave him a sausage, some bacon, eggs and beans from my plate.

What was the best part about your experience?

My son enjoyed his pancake, even though it was small and I do like having unlimited refills of tea!

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The service was very friendly. My husband has an aversion to tomatoes and the waitress really tried to convince him to replace them with something else, he just left them off instead.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No

And lastly, would you go again?

Not sure. We do like going out for breakfast and have eaten breakfast at the Chiquitos and Frankie and Benny's next door before. But I don't think we'd return to Bella Italia unless they changed the menu. There wasn't enough choice for children and the breakfasts were a bit pricey. I wish British chain restaurants would get better at offering breakfasts, going out for breakfast is a big thing in the States for example, but not sure why it isn't here and why our restaurants can't offer the quality and choice you can get over there.

We went this morning - me, DH, 3yo DD and 8mo Dad (asleep the whole visit)

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Generally, it was good. First impressions on walking in were that it's nicely decorated and we were greeted at the door. There was lots of space between the tables for the pushchair and for you to feel like you're not crammed in.

DD (3) loved the colouring-in pack, it was great compared to other places. Our server spoke specifically to her and included her in asking things like "are you ready to order?" which is such a small gesture but one that DD liked.

I liked that the toilet cubicles were big enough for a grown up and a toddler and that the hand driers were at a height where DD could do her own hands. The only niggle about the toilets was that the baby change is in the accessible toilet which could potentially be awkward if the restaurant was busy, a changing table in the ladies/gents loos would be a better option I think. On that note, the wide spacing between the tables and everything on one level means the restaurant is fully accessible for wheelchair users.

How would you rate the food quality?
I enjoyed it but it wasn't spectacular. My egg was slightly underdone for my liking (clear bits and jelly like yolk) and I wasn't asked how I like my bacon which was very pink with stringy rind (I like it really crispy) so maybe just asking people in future "how do you like your...?" would make a difference. DD's pancake was really dry, some sauce would have helped, but she still ate the whole thing. And while the sausages were yummy mine was cooked dark brown while DH's was an anaemic looking grey colour.

On a positive note, the bacon was lovely and thick, the ciabata toast was crispy, and the smiley face pancake was loved by DD.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
There was a good selection. I had the Bella breakfast, DH had the Gigante breakfast, and DD had the smiley face pancake. There was lots of choice on the adults menu but not much on the kids (two choice). I felt the pancake portion was small - one pancake, one strawberry cut in half, one slice of banana, a couple of chunks of fudge, a chocolate wafer and chocolate strands for hair. It was enough for DD but if our older DS had been with us he'd have still been hungry. And I know it's a treat to go out for breakfast but I'd rather it had less chocolate and fudge and more fruit. The adult side of the menu had lots of choice though and portion sizes were good.

What was the best part about your experience?
Our server was really friendly and it was obvious that as a company they've tried really hard to be family friendly. There's been a lot of thought put into the small touches such as the colouring-in packs (and the quality of them), the servers speaking to the children, the lowered hand driers, the space between tables, toddler sized cutlery and so on. They're small things but they make a difference.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Our server was lovely! She was very friendly and welcoming, she spoke directly to DD, she brought toddler sized cutlery without even asking (it's amazing how many places don't even do small knives and forks) and when DD dropped some of her fudge pieces she brought her a little ramekin of replacements.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
I didn't, I knew they did lunch and dinner but not breakfast.

And lastly, would you go again?
*We already did! We did some shopping after our breakfast and as we were headed home DS wanted a feed so we ended up going back in for a coffee. We got the same great service and I BF'd him without so much as a flicker. Our server spoke to me while I was feeding him when she brought our drinks (sometimes people seem to avoid speaking directly to me when I'm feeding him or avoid making eye contact), she spoke to DD too and when I was finished feeding him someone popped over to ask if I wanted a high chair for him. They had these padded dining chairs that are so comfortable to BF in! Next time we're shopping over that way and DS needs a feed I will be going there for a coffee while I sort him out :)

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

I took my three sons and I found the restaurant was accommodating considering we had a huge double buggy. It was a relaxed environment and the team were friendly. Overall, it was a good experience.

How would you rate the food quality?

Food quality was good. I went for the vegetarian breakfast which was nicely done and my eldest boy had the bacon stacked pancakes with syrup which he enjoyed.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

As above, we had the veggie breakfast and bacon stacked pancakes. My youngest two are only 2 months so they missed out! I think the variety is good but my eldest ended up choosing a breakfast from the adults menu as he does have a big appetite.

What was the best part about your experience?

The service was really good and the staff were very friendly. I was quite nervous about taking the youngest with us and taking the double buggy but I did ring ahead to let them know we were coming. They made sure there was plenty of space and made a big fuss over the kids which was nice.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Yes, staff were great.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

I had no idea.

And lastly, would you go again?

Yes. We often go out for breakfast or brunch as a family and it's great to know we have another option locally.

MiuChoos · 22/11/2014 11:09

We had breakfast at Bella Italia this morning. (Me, two children and DH.)
Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
We sometimes go out for breakfast, but Bella Italia isn't somewhere that I would previously have thought of going for breakfast (as I didn't know that they did them! Smile )
Now we know they do, I'd go again as it was lovely. We were the only ones in the restaurant when we went, so it was a nice, relaxed atmosphere.
How would you rate the food quality?
The food was really nice - bacon was crispy, and the mushrooms were 'just right' - not greasy (fried) like some places tend to do them.
How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
I had the Bella breakfast (traditional cooked breakfast), DH as a veggie went for the vegetarian breakfast, and both DS's had the children's cooked breakfast.
I was impressed with the quality of food in my breakfast, as it was lovely, really tasty. DH loved the fact there was avocado in the veggie breakfast, as it's not something you usually get - he said it made a nice change to have something alternative in a breakfast as opposed to the usual meat substitute sausages and stuff you usually get.
Both DS's enjoyed their breakfasts, and cleared their plates. Even though they both loved the food and ate it all, my one gripe with the kids breakfasts are that they are quite small portions - for example, you didn't get a sausage and bacon - you had to choose one or the other. They didn't mind though, and loved what they did have so all good. Smile
The food that you did get was great though.
What was the best part about your experience?
The friendly and helpful service.
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Our waitress serving us was very friendly and attentive, and asked us if we had everything we needed, and had a nice manner.
Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No! I had no idea.
And lastly, would you go again?
Yes, we'd go back as the food was lovely.

MrsMinton · 22/11/2014 12:52

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast? Excellent
How would you rate the food quality? brilliant. It was fresh and smelt great. The food was hot and presented really well.
How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose? I think there is an excellent choice for Grown ups. The kids choice was slightly good, because the kids breakfast didn't have a veggie option like the adults.
What was the best part about your experience? The staff made us feel very welcome and it was a very relaxed and warm meal.
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming? it was excellent.
Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this? No
And lastly, would you go again? definitely.

fuzzpig · 22/11/2014 14:43

It's taken me ages to come back and review Blush but we went to the Crawley branch on 8th Nov. Thank you so much MN for the opportunity!

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Lovely! It was quiet and informal and a nice environment with tasty food.
How would you rate the food quality?
Pretty good - all tasted really nice. The scrambled eggs were gorgeous, and DH loved his steak. The hot chocolate was lovely too. The only thing I wasn't impressed by was the children's pancake - it had all the bits there but didn't look that well presented, although DD loved it (I'm just pedantic really).
How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
DD immediately chose the pancake and wolfed it down. DS for some reason wanted the adult breakfast although didn't eat all of it (we helped!). DH had steak and eggs, and I had the breakfast pizza!
I thought the range on the adult menu was great - I had real difficulty choosing! Something to suit all budgets. I was disappointed with only two children's options, though of course they could choose something from the adult menu (but had I been paying for it I wouldn't have wanted to do that! In the past at Bella I've had a half portion of pasta for around half the price, not sure if that was workable with breakfast stuff though?). I would love to see a smaller breakfast pizza - they do children's size pizza on the regular menu so I think it would work well.
What was the best part about your experience?
Breakfast pizza! Really lovely. I don't like mushrooms so they happily replaced it with roast red and yellow peppers. It was delicious - although huge, I only managed half.
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Yes! I think I heard the staff being told that we were a reviewer, but I don't feel we were treated differently because of it (compared to other times we've been in there I mean). This was definitely a good thing - I did another (non-MN) restaurant review recently, and our waitress basically wouldn't leave us alone, it was really weird and annoying! But this was great as usual.
Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
I had probably seen advertising outside (we go past it a lot as it's in a leisure park) but not really registered. I've not really considered going to an Italian restaurant for breakfast before.
And lastly, would you go again?
Yes! It would have to be for a special occasion rather than 'just because', as it's a little expensive for our budget, but I'd definitely like to.

fuzzpig · 22/11/2014 14:44

Sorry it was the 9th not the 8th

BellaVida · 22/11/2014 18:00

Finally got around to visiting this morning.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
*Very good. Seated straightaway at table with plenty of space for the 6 of us. Good that breakfast is served until 12pm as some of the DC had activities in the morning.

How would you rate the food quality?
*Very good. Well-cooked, fresh ingredients, although could have been a little hotter. DC asked me to mention that the hot chocolate was lovely!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
*Good selection for adults, although very limited vegetarian options and not even veggie sausages on the vegetarian breakfast! My DH had the Gigante Breakfast, which was a decent sized full breakfast with toasted ciabatta. As the veggie options were so poor, I had a toasted mozzarella, avocado and pesto ciabatta, which was tasty but could have been toasted for longer. Only 2 children's breakfast options and again, no hot vegetarian alternative. My 4 DC had the kids hot breakfast which was okay but very small portions (1 piece bacon or a sausage (can be replaced with extra egg), table spoon of beans, table spoon scrambled egg or fried egg, 1 slice toasted ciabatta). Considering the kids menu is up to 10 years old, the portion is far too small. Even my 4 year old finished all of hers and was still hungry.

What was the best part about your experience?

  • The refurbishment looked great. Lovely and light, spacious, modern and colourful Italian touches. Nice, fresh food.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
*Lovely welcoming, friendly staff. Nice kids menus & packs. Service was quite slow, despite the restaurant being almost empty when we arrived.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
*No.

And lastly, would you go again?
*Yes, for lunch, as we saw some nice dishes coming out to other tables, but probably not for breakfast, due to the issues I mentioned above.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

We went today for brunch with a toddler and baby. Overall it was a stress free and enjoyable visit. Lots of space for the buggy, friendly and supportive staff, working highchair and good baby changing facilities. Environment was very relaxed and pleasant décor.

How would you rate the food quality?

All the food appeared to have been freshly made, came out hot and was good quality. Baby had porridge with fresh banana which was an unexpected treat. Portions were just right and good selection of drinks.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

I had the Bella breakfast, Toddler the kiddies version and baby had porridge and fruit (and bits of my toast). A great selection of food for adults, a number of healthier choice dishes available. Only two kids meals, though items such as the porridge would also work for children. No baby food provided, some dishes would have provided finger food (toast/pancakes/fruit), No but they did not mind you taking in your own food.

Children's cutlery would have been a bonus, but they had plastic cups, straws and did not automatically put ketchup etc on the table which is always helpful

What was the best part about your experience?

The friendliness and attentiveness of the staff , served by Sherin who went out of his way to ensure children were happy and my tea was topped up.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

All the staff were friendly and welcoming, made it a very pleasant exp.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

Never heard of it.

And lastly, would you go again?

Would take husband next time to try the steak dish whilst I work my way through the pancakes ! Though it would have to be for brunch again as breakfast time is 8am, the likelihood of getting out and over for that time is slim!

ellaballoo · 23/11/2014 10:38

So sorry for leaving it to the last minute but we finally made it into Manchester for our breakfast.
How did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
We had a lovely morning, the breakfast was delicious and we enjoyed people watching in the Arndale Centre while we ate.

How would you rate the food quality?

The quality of the food was great .DHs portion of beans was a bit miserly and the bacon slightly fatty.DS and myself has no complaints and overall it was an excellent experience .The bread was particularly lovely as was the vanilla latte. Definitely no need for any sugar in it!

How would you rate the selection of food- grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

There was a great choice,DS and myself particularly appreciated the vegetarian options.
I had the scrambled egg and tomato ciabatta with a vanilla latte.
DS(11) plumped for the create your own omelette. He chose red pepper and cheese and thought it was a fab idea.
DH opted for the gigante breakfast and despite initial reservations about it being too much managed to demolish the lot.

What was the best part about your experience?
The best part of the breakfast was the fact I hadn't had to make it!

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
It certainly was.The greeter made us aware that there was a draft in the "outdoor" part of the restaurant but this wasn't a problem. Our waitress was particularly welcoming to my son, shaking his hand and engaging in a touch of Italian. Lovely service,we were more than happy to leave a tip.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
Yes, I had seen pop ups on the internet and received emails about it.

And lastly, would you go again?
We certainly would, although it could become an expensive habit.I was very interested in some of the items on the specials menu !

Thank-you very much for giving us a relaxing start to a manic shopping day.

milkncookies · 23/11/2014 14:32

Thank you MN and BI Smile for this meal, this is a great way for companies to get real feedback for family/child oriented ventures I think!

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Positives: Lovely Decor, Great music volume (some places Frankie and Bennys are SO loud, this was just right) comfy temperature and seating. Generally clean, nice touch of chunky beakers which were plastic for the children with straws given as standard - thoughtful and ideal for young ones.

Suggestions: No children's activities, no high chair offered, sellotaped fairy lights around table looked poor and potentially dangerous, a very dirty piece cutlery on the table (I'm not just talking a smudge - looked like it had been used to spread egg then left to dry on a napkin that it was stuck to!)

How would you rate the food quality?
Generally good, not exceptional given the price. 3.5/5 if giving stars!

Drinks: Coffee was good, machine was loud for DC though! Hot chocolate a bit insipid - both hot drinks had no saucer which was a pain as no place to put wet spoon / sugar packets?! Juice quite strong / cheap tasting but was chilled well.

Positives: nice sausages, ample portions, banana initially not available so nice surprise that they found one by the time they served us, tasty maple syrup - extra given on request (pots were half full) which was nice to have as they needed it

Suggestions: Steak OK but not great - possibly due to being put on a cold plate / waiting around for other elements of the dish OR possibly due to meat quality and/or seasoning.

Pancakes heavy consistency, eggs frazzled and not presented well - let the plate down really.
Not sure I like the rectangular plate!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
We had a gigante breakfast, steak and DC both had pancake stack from adult menu as the children's options looked poor.

Good selection for adults, black pudding would have been a good addition though.

Very poor for children. No separate children's menu - am baffled by this and the lack of any activity pack - surely if targeting MNers you're aiming for a certain market i.e. families and children? If not then that's entirely fine but it confused us; as an adult breakfast place great, but the addition of 'children' on a menu which consists of two items and no photos was poor. This is a shame as we looked online before the visit and the children LOVED looking at the pictures and talking about what they would like. The effort is there online but not in print?

What was the best part about your experience?
Now this is strange but DH and I both said the toilets! They smelt nice, bright lighting, the hot taps weren't scolding (v.good and v.rare we find!), they were very clean and in working order, the driers a touch loud but luckily DC are just past the raging fear of them! The only suggestion is a nicer soap - (it was a cheapy-smelly kind).
There were changing facilities in the disabled loo which we didn't use but I honestly think that you could have the nicest meal but horrid toilets really let a place down - it's bad enough when you use a grotty loo but you hate having to take children in them - good effort to Bella Italia for high standards in this area, it matters!

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Positives: Both on the phone and in person, the one lady we dealt with was friendly and professional. Very understanding when we had to rearrange booking. Smiley at the DC and not too forced with their attentiveness (this is ideal as youngest is very shy - some staff in other places see this as a cue to talk more at them and try to make them respond…! Lady serving us was just right in this respect).
Suggestion: I found the rowdy conversation with another staff member (male) at the till kind of unprofessional - the chap didn't smile back when we were on our ways to the toilets either although he may not have been 'on duty' but still - so we would say just that one woman was great, the others not so much as they pretty much ignored us.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No - I wouldn't have thought they opened before midday!
NOTE - there was a lovely sandwich board which was advertising breakfast at Bella… it was folded up, leaning on a wall in the entrance way hidden behind the christmas menu display?! Might have been better outside in a visible and useful position, especially as we heard a couple come in a while after us who were unsure if Bella Italia was open for breakfast.

And lastly, would you go again?
Yes, but either for dinner with DH or as a family for lunch - possibly for breakfast only for a snack and drink as I think the mains are over priced for the content. It also took around half an hour for food to be served - this felt a long time with DC and would have been even longer if I hadnt brought our own activities.

We would return for breakfast however if there was a greater emphasis on the family / children element - maybe a pricing structure where children eat free or reduced, the addition of a children's menu, a simple child's pack, balloon etc?

Thank you again - RL has been getting in the way of us attending any sooner so we have really been looking forward to this. I hope our feedback is constructive, do let us know if there are any other points to cover or clarification needed.

Thanks

Thanks for the voucher. We went last Sunday, here's our answers:

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

It was nice, the decor was very retro and Italian-focused. We had a booth which I asked for as it stopped the children escaping!

There weren't many other people when we arrived but plenty by the time we left.

How would you rate the food quality?

It was good. I asked for and received a decaf skinny mochaccino, with no problems.
The food took a while to arrive but I guess that proved it was freshly cooked.
All really nicely presented.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

There was a far better selection for adults than children, only two choices on the children's menu.

I had Steak and Eggs, it came with new potatoes and mushrooms. Really filling.

Hubbie had the Gigante (big fried breakfast) and it was! He loved it! It came with toasted ciabatta which T ended up having because his choice from the children's menu was really small.

T choose a Happy Face pancake from the children's menu which could have done with being twice the size.

D had a breakfast pizza, which was really tasty and full of toppings.

What was the best part about your experience?

Having a meal out as a family, in a new place.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The service was great, our waiter was really friendly but I realised afterwards it would have been nice to have been offered more coffee between our initial drink and the food arriving, there was quite a gap and according to the menu, we should have been offered top-ups.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

I didn't know. Coincidentally when we got married in Jersey, we had our post wedding menu in a Bella Italia so it was nice to make a visit to a new location.

And lastly, would you go again?

We would, may be for a special occasion.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
It was great - staff were welcoming, kids (3,6&8) were given a kids pack which kept them entertained whilst we waited for the food.
How would you rate the food quality?
The pancakes didn't look like they'd just been made - the older 2 enjoyed them though. The youngest thought the happy face pancakes were too sweet for her.
My steak was ok but cooked more than I'd asked (asked for medium but was barely pink in the middle) and was a little cold but DH's omelette was perfect.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
There was a good choice for the grown ups but only 2 choices for the kids
I had steak and eggs, DH had the spicy omelette and all 3 DCs had the happy face pancakes
What was the best part about your experience?
Good atmosphere, welcoming staff, and that it was a treat!
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Yes, it just right
Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?no
And lastly, would you go again?
Yes possibly for a treat as most of us enjoyed it
thank you for giving us the opportunity to test it!

We visited this morning - had table booked for 10 am; and it was my husband, me and an almost three year old. We have found it really hard to go as when you google the restaurant it says that it doesn't open until 11 am but as this was the last day we thought we would try and manage it - so we rang and they actually open at 9 am. We were the only people in the restaurant until 11 am - would be interesting to see if that is usually the case!!
Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Great; easy to park; booth to sit in so our toddler was contained; clean toilets; only snag was that for breakfast they put out really sharp knives which she instantly grabbed as soon as we got to the table
How would you rate the food quality?
It was excellent. I was really surprised - lots of it; really hot; clearly frshly cooked and delicious!
How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
Husband and I had the breakfast gigantic (or whatever it's called) and toddler had the kids pancake face. There was very little choice for little ones - but she loves pancakes so they were perfect.
What was the best part about your experience?
Hot, freshly cooked food.
How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
It really was. Staff were pleasant, and chatted to our toddler and made us welcome. Explained the menu when we arrived and came and offered refills of our hot drinks which was really appreciated. The food took a while to come - but then when it came it was clearly freshly cooked and piping hot - you don't mind waiting when the food is actually worth the wait.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No. We go to Frankie & Benny's and Carluccio's usually (and quite regularly, probably breakfast out every other weekend), had no idea that Bella Italia did it, or that it would be so good!
And lastly, would you go again?
I think we would - the food was great, staff friendly and it was fairly well priced.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Very good - nice roomy restaurant, very clean, felt very welcoming.

How would you rate the food quality?
Great coffee, food was good. Not the best food I have ever had but fresh and tasty.

How would you rate the selection of food - grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
I had the full English which was really nice.
DH had the breakfast pizza which was a massive hit with everyone!
DD had the mini breakfast which was good.
DS had the pancakes which he loved.

What was the best part about your experience?
The staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble. My DD can't have cows milk and they went out of their way to come up with something she could have.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Our waitress was absolutely fab, and the other members of staff were lovely too.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No.

And lastly, would you go again?
Definitely. We had a fantastic time mainly due to the brilliant service and nice restaurant, nice food as well.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

Generally, I love going to our local Bella Italia for meals for the relaxed family friendly atmosphere.

However, the place definitely felt a lot less cheery when we went for the breakfast. We reached at around 9:15 AM and were asked to come back after 15 minutes. Even after we came back, there was one staff hurriedly trying to set up the restaurant and it was a while before he came to take the orders. So IMO, not the ideal place if you want a quick and early breakfast.

We were not offered a highchair or the kids pack and there was some grumbling from the waiting staff about us not booking in advance. They said that they were honouring the voucher as a one off as it was invalid as we had not booked in advance.

Maybe I just caught them out on a bad day, but the place felt unfriendly, although the staff was polite.

How would you rate the food quality?

We ordered the Gigante breakfast for DH and I and a happy pancake for my DS.

Scrambled eggs - Perfect
Bacon - Very good
Sausages - Very average although cooked very well.
Kid's Happy Face pancake - Too small a portion. DS1 ate some of our breakfast to compensate. Clearly, one pancake is insufficient and at least two should be offered.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

I would rate it well for the options and variety on the menu.

What was the best part about your experience?

The comfortable and relaxed ambience.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Not really, which I found strange. Like I mentioned earlier, I am a regular and a bit surprised by the lacklustre service.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No

And lastly, would you go again?

I would say that the breakfast at Bella Italia is average in terms of quality, service and value for money. I have had better brunch/breakfast experiences at other local restaurants. I will give it another chance though.

Hi again!

DP, DD and I were invited back to Bella Italia after our MN breakfast visit to try out their new lunch menu. So we visited again yesterday for lunch. I just wanted to say that their new lunch range for kids is fantastic. They now have 2 size portions; one for 2-6 year olds and another for 7-12 year olds. This seems like such a brilliant idea as I've read on here that lots of parents found the childrens portions to be too small for their older DCs. Hopefully they'll be offering the 2 portion sizes for breakfast and dinner too!

We were also given a colouring pack for DD which we weren't given when we went for our MN breakfast visit, which was nice as it kept DD busy during the wait for our food.

It was absolutely PACKED in the restaurant yesterday, but our food was served very quickly (it was as if we were the only ones there to cook for!) and was lovely and hot and beautifully presented!

My DD chose chicken nuggets, chips and a vegetable skewer- tomatoes and cucumber slices on a kebab skewer. The chips and nuggets came wrapped in parchment and sat in a little basket which was lovely, but we did have to quickly remove the tomatoes and cucumber from the skewers as I don't think it's a good idea having a kebab skewer on a 2 year old's plate! But it was no trouble to whip it away quickly!!

Pudding was lovely too. DD chose vanilla ice cream. This came with a cone and strawberry which she loved. The childrens drinks also come in a small glass milk bottle with a long twirly straw which is great fun for the little ones and you're allowed to take the straw home with you (which we forgot!)

I just wanted to pop back on here to recommend trying lunch at Bella Italia! We really enjoyed our breakfast, but our lunch was even better! x
