Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast? In all honesty, I felt it wasn't ideal for my children..we where waiting for quite a while for the food and they soon got bored. Also, my daughter had asked for a colouring book and the waiter said he would bring her one, but she didn't get one till she asked again on the way out.

How would you rate the food quality? Very good, was delicious.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose? A fair selection..I went for the Gigantic breakfast, my teenager chose pancakes and bacon and the kids went for the smiley face pancake..my children have large appetites, even my 2 year old so I ended up sharing some of mine with them once they had finished. I thought the children's menu was good value but a little bit more choice would be nice.

What was the best part about your experience? The food arriving, it looked great! We where starving too, so was well received.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming? It was very friendly but the waiter took a long time to take our food order, it was really quiet too, so not sure why.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this? No

And lastly, would you go again? I would but I don't think I would take children if i could help it!

For me, the experience would have been better if the menu was a little clearer with the free refills on hot drinks..I ordered a hazelnut latte which was delicious, but when i asked if i could have another refill i was brought just normal coffee..not sure if this is the 'deal' or if he just forgot what I had ordered originally..also, an option to purchase unlimited children's drinks would be nice too as mine drink loads. However, the waiter was very sweet and did make my kids hot chocolates free of charge as they had drunk their orange juice well before the food arrived.

How did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
It was an enjoyable experience; it felt as if there is a real effort being made to welcome parents with children. The balloon and fun pack were great for keeping DD entertained. We did go at 9.30am on a Sunday morning, so we were the only people in the restaurant for most of that time and therefore there wasn't much of an atmosphere, although a few more families did arrive around 10.30. I think in our area 10am would be plenty early enough to open. The restaurant was bright, clean, well decorated and not too many tables in the space (so didn't feel cramped). Our Bella is next door to Frankie and Bennies, and we did see a lot more families heading there -not sure why: my husband checked out their menu afterwards and the options didn't seem to be as good, although their headline price was cheaper.

How would you rate the food quality?
We all ordered pancakes in some form as we wanted something I wouldn't normally make at home. DH had pancakes with bacon, which he enjoyed. He said the bacon was nice thick rashers and went well with the pancakes and syrup. I had the fruit pancakes, which were ok, but a bit tough on the edges and I would have liked more fruit. DD had the smiley face pancake - again, a bit overcooked, but she did like the presentation. The coffees were lovely, though - as you'd expect in an Italian restaurant.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
See above for what we chose. As pointed out by a number of posters above, while the choices for adults were good there wasn't a wide enough range for children. Admittedly a child could have the snack options, but DD isn't keen on pastries, so we took a chance on the pancakes for DD as they weren't something she'd had before - it turned out ok, but might not have done. The thing I really felt was missing from the menu was some kind of yoghurt/fruit/fruit compote/granola type option - perhaps presented as a bowl of yoghurt with pots of the other things on the side - kind of build your own. This wouldn't be hard to do as fruit compote already accompanies the porridge, and there are strawberries/bananas used elsewhere in the menu - just need some thick yoghurt and possibly granola.

What was the best part about your experience?
Trying something we wouldn't normally eat; having breakfast out in a restaurant felt a lot less rushed/pressured somehow than lunch out as a family - perhaps because it is only one course. Also, the free refills on coffee - worth the visit for that alone!

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Yes; the waiter couldn't do enough - he was attentive without overdoing it. He frequently checked we had everything we wanted and was really lovely in chatting to DD and treating her like a valued customer herself (she's only 3!). Nothing was too much trouble - DD doesn't much like orange juice, but it was no problem to swap it for apple.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No, I had no idea.

And lastly, would you go again?
Possibly. When we compared the prices, it was comparable to having lunch out somewhere like Costa; one of the nice things was that instead of rushing around doing shopping first, then trying to find a seat and have lunch at lunchtime along with everyone else, we had a leisurely breakfast in peace, then went to do our shopping and came home for lunch. The coffee refills are a real selling point, too. We'd seriously consider doing it again, but what would probably swing it for us would be if the children's (or snack) menu was expanded a bit to include a 'healthier', more fruit-based option. Also something like some fruit/raisin toast (even toasted pannetone or similar, if you are going Italian) possibly with some fruit would have been nice as an option. I think the difficulty at the moment for families is that, while the adults might have plenty of choice, it wouldn't take many visits for DD to get bored of her options.

Thank you for the opportunity; we had some lovely family time and thoroughly enjoyed our experience Flowers

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
The restaurant itself felt cosy, not at all like a chain. The waitress was lovely, we were welcomed in when it was very quiet however it got steadily busier and I just don't think they were prepared for many customers at breakfast time unfortunately.

How would you rate the food quality?

It was fine. The coffee was great!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

We were told there were no pancakes or pastries available which was a disappointment for my 4 year old who was hoping for the smiley face pancake. The selection of food available was fine. We ordered the vegetarian breakfast, the kids cooked breakfast and the gigante. Unfortunately we had to wait 45 minutes for our food. Drinks were long gone by then and we weren't told that we could have a refill of the coffee. My 4 year old wasn't offered any colouring materials so it was tricky keeping her entertained for that length of time. She was starving by the time the food arrived but her portions were very small.

What was the best part about your experience?
The warm atmosphere and the coffee.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
The waitress was very friendly. Unfortunately neither she nor the manager knew anything of this product test. I rang to book a table and told them the quote we were asked to, then gave them the letter on arrival, which they read, but there was still an uncomfortable 10 minutes at the end of the meal when they gave me a bill for £20.00. They just didn't know how to enter it into the till and therefore put it as 2 meals for 1. They reduced the bill again by a third until finally accepting after much awkward discussion that we would not be charged. All of the other customers fell silent and watched as it looked like we were disputing the bill. I thanked the manager profusely and left a generous tip but we walked out feeling so awkward.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
I didn't. I have enjoyed dinner there many times.

And lastly, would you go again?
It would be perfect to meet a friend there for breakfast if you had nothing else to do in the morning and had plenty of time. Unfortunately I don't think I would return with children.
We were so excited about going, and extremely grateful to be chosen as part of the product test, but it just didn't live up to expectations and put a bit of a dampener on the rest of the day.

blueballoon79 · 29/10/2014 21:26

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

We felt really welcome. The atmosphere was lovely.

How would you rate the food quality?

The food wasn't anything amazing but was perfectly fine.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

There was a great selections of food for adults but not enough for children.
I chose an omelette with spinach, mushrooms and spring onion, my daughter went for the Full English.

What was the best part about your experience?

Our waitress! She was so friendly and made conversation with both me and my daughter. She made us feel extremely welcome.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Yes, extremely.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No

And lastly, would you go again?

No probably not as I don't usually have the time or opportunity to go out for breakfast. I'd definitely consider returning for an evening meal though.

Thank you for allowing me this opportunity.

5madthings · 29/10/2014 21:39

Marking place for when we have been.

IAmNotDarling · 29/10/2014 22:42

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
Fine. I would say that it was comparable to similar establishments, for example Frankie & Bennys and Giraffe. A recently renovated branch, it looked great. It was very quiet (10.00 on a Saturday morning).

It also looked as if the floors hadn't been cleaned since at least the previous evening but the tables and chairs were clean. The toilets were clean.

How would you rate the food quality?
The quality was good on the whole.

How would you rate the selection of food - grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
I thought the children's choice was narrow. I would say that a mix and match menu might be better. My DD (3.5) had a Kids Breakfast, which she enjoyed but wanted bacon rather than just the sausage she choose. I ordered a ham and roasted pepper omelette. I had to send it back because the peppers were raw and the egg still very runny. The manager was apologetic and replaced with my choice of pancakes and bacon. This is was okay but the pancakes appeared to be pre-prepared which I found surprising. DH had the gigante breakfast. He liked the ciabatta toast and the sausages.

What was the best part about your experience?
The sausages were very nice. DD got a ballon.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
Yes, but I was disappointed that we didn't get offered re-fills on our hot drinks.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No, but there isn't one in the city centre and I don't pass the out of town site regularly.

And lastly, would you go again?
Maybe, if on a weekend UK break. We don't regularly go out for breakfast but do sometimes if we travel.

Halfling · 29/10/2014 23:08

Marking place. Will be back with a feedback soon.

Ledkr · 30/10/2014 07:29

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

Our local one has been there a while so whilst the restaurant is quite nice I did feel that the toilets could do with updating, they seemed rather uncared for and not in fitting with the restaurant.
The staff were lovely and knew about the Mumsnet deal, however it ended up not being very free for me because I hadn't included dh on my original application as he was at work for the 3 weekends after. Dd is 12 and the kids menu was like a mouthful to her so I had to pay for an adult portion Hmm tho it seems that other testers just got their dc adult portions (wish I'd known that). Staff were attentive to begin with and offered a high chair and gave them packs. Nobody told me about coffee refills.

How would you rate the food quality?

We thought it was ok but ds who came too, is a chef and said the bacon and sausages were undercooked and they did look anaemic to be honest.
We thought the portions were rather small and looked a bit lost on the plates. The pancakes were not great and such small portions too, it was golden syrup and not maple.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

I had the Divello omelette which was nice and spicey but the potatoes were just plonked on the plate, I felt there was no presentation. We were eating ours as "brunch" so not particularly filling.
Dd is only 3 and not a huge eater but she looked gutted at her singular pancake and few slices of fruit. Kids portions far too small in my opinion and only two choices too. I think that was my main bugbear. If you are going to have a child's menu then do it properly and make it good value and adequate. Halfhearted attempt sorry.

What was the best part about your experience?

Obviously having something complimentary was lovely and also just getting together to eat which I will definitely do again rather than just for dinner.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Yes very, staff were really nice, but we did feel a , bit forgotten once we'd ordered.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

Yes.

And lastly, would you go again?

Probably not due to the small portions. We would go for lunch or dinner though.

2madboys · 30/10/2014 09:30

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

We really enjoyed it. Our previous experiences with Bella Italia have not been good so I didn't have particularly high hopes (two different branches). On our first visit, DH and I had a three course meal and everything that was brought to us was either completely wrong, or had something missing. The service at that meal was generally really bad (Bristol branch). DH also bought a pizza one lunchtime (Nottingham). He remarked to a colleague that it was possibly the best gluten-free pizza he'd ever tried and shortly afterwards became quite ill and we think he was given a regular base. This kind of thing would be a huge issue and very dangerous if it had happened to someone more sensitive/with a more dangerous intolerance/allergy.

We visited the Leicester Meridian branch this time. It looked very new. Don't think it's been open very long. It was very quiet - we went at 9.30 on a Saturday morning and to start with, we were the only people there. Parking was easy and the place was nice and clean. Ladies toilets also smelt very nice!

How would you rate the food quality?

The food was very good. However, one of the breakfasts we ordered had an item missing and my baked beans were cold. These were soon rectified though. We would have liked a bottle of ketchup on the table as the tiny little pot we were given didn't go very far so we had to ask for more!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

Food selection was good and included food suitable for DH who is Coeliac. We all had a cooked breakfast, I had the regular one and DH and two DSs all had the big one. The gluten free bread was a little strange though - looked like they had cut up a GF pizza base. DH liked the coffee and the fresh orange juice was lovely.

What was the best part about your experience?

The best part of the experience was going out for breakfast in general. Something we never usually do.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

The staff were very friendly. Service was quite slow, even though we were the only people in there when we ordered. The mistakes however, were very quickly rectified.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

I didn't know about the breakfasts prior to this.

And lastly, would you go again?

It's unlikely we would go for breakfast again. It was very nice, but we don't eat out a lot and what we had would have cost around £40 so not cheap. Might go for a treat using Tesco vouchers sometime.

2madboys · 30/10/2014 09:32

Just realised - my youngest ds is 11 and he chose from the adult menu so can't comment on the children's menu. Looking at the feedback above though, there is no way the children's menu would have been enough for him.

I also think that giving us the letters to show at the restaurants was a bit of a mistake. Presumably most places would try and give extra good service if they know they're being watched.

I'm gutted that I didn't get dds brekkie free. I assumed the kids could only order from the kids menu so it cost me quite a bit Sad

hotmamalovespavlova · 30/10/2014 13:40

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
The restaurant is currently hidden under scaffolding, we walked up and down the street twice before noticing its whereabouts. On entering we were the only customers this was at 11.30am. We were greeted warmly we were seated immediately and given the menu's.
Inside the place was bright and clean and set up ready for lunchtime trade.
which was good because within 30 mins they were full to bursting mostly with families with two or more children.

How would you rate the food quality?
The food was freshly cooked and hot, though because of all the different elements to the breakfasts we had chosen the wait for food was a little too long. It was nice that the kitchen was open so you could see the food being prepared.
The meal was nice however I am not sure I would be happy to pay£40 which is what the bill would of come in.
For that price I would want 'great' and it just wasn't that

How would you rate the selection of food - grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
The choice for Adults was excellent definitely something for everyone, we all choose the Gigante Breakfast with a choice of how we wanted our eggs. However the options for children were limited and disappointing, I would suggest offering the main breakfast choices but in half portions to offer more variety. My daughter aged 7 had the kids cooked breakfast which was offered with scrambled eggs the waiter was happy to exchanged that for fried eggs.

What was the best part about your experience?
It was a nice way to spend a morning together in the middle of half term.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
From the telephone call to book through to completion of our meal the service was great and from what I noted this was extended to all customers coming in, not just to us reviewing them. It clearly is a restaurant of choice for families.
Disappointed that an activity pack wasn't provided during the wait for food for my DD as we ended up handing her a phone to amuse herself.
Overall Oxford Bella Italia should be proud of the service they give it is friendly without being intrusive.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No, it wouldn't be somewhere I would think of going for breakfast.

And lastly, would you go again?
Yes, the service was friendly and clearly welcoming to families. I would probably choose to go for lunch or dinner rather than breakfast.

PfftTheMagicDraco · 30/10/2014 13:58

I also think that giving us the letters to show at the restaurants was a bit of a mistake. Presumably most places would try and give extra good service if they know they're being watched.

Grin didn't make any difference here, service wasn't great

5madthings · 30/10/2014 16:34

We are booked to go tomorrow morning. Am thinking kids portions will be too small for ds2 and ds3 are they allowed to order an adult bfast? Am unclear as some posters have. If they do will I be charged for that?

PfftTheMagicDraco · 30/10/2014 18:14

I ordered from the adult menu for mine, and nobody mentioned anything about having to pay extra at any point.

5madthings · 30/10/2014 18:26

Ok thanks pfft shall try ordering and not mentioning anything!

SweetPeaPods · 30/10/2014 20:18

Reading this thread I've noticed some got free refills of coffee some didn't. When you look online the menu states free refill on any hot drink so lattes etc should be included!

StantonLacy · 30/10/2014 21:21

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?
It was a nice, bright and welcoming atmosphere. Very quiet though, considering it was half term in our area, there were only a couple of other families there when we arrived at eleven.

How would you rate the food quality?
The food was of a very good quality. We all compared the breakfasts we ordered with the breakfasts we sometimes have as a family (at a certain swedish chain) and agreed that the quality was much higher...however, this is really reflected in the price!

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?
The selection of food for the adults was very good, I thought. There was quite a large variety of different items to choose from - the breakfast pizza sounded fun, I can see that it would appeal purely on novelty value and it was nice to see such a wide range of food not normally thought of as traditional breakfast fare.
I had the Omelette Diavola and it was delicious. Spicy, but not too hot and piping hot. The potatoes served with it were a little bland, I thought and could have done with some form of dressing/sauce...but I am a sauce fiend (They did provide a choice of tomato or brown sauce, which was very welcome as far as the children were concerned)
DH had the Gigante breakfast and said it was very good indeed - the sausages were very tasty and the eggs just right.
The children both chose the Kids Breakfast and with a liberal application of brown sauce it went down very well! Their verdicts were "Lovely!" and "Really, reallly, really nice" - a hit :-) I was a little disappointed by the childrens menu choices - there were only two and although the Happy faced pancake appealed to my pancake fiend offspring, the fact that you are only served ONE pancake and a little bit of fruit was enough to stop them choosing it. I do feel that most children of average appetite would eat at least three normal sized pancakes as part of a breakfast...it just seemed a little measly and a shame as the other portion sizes provided were very good. The children both had orange juice with their breakfasts, which they loved. We had tea - very nice and at least two cups full in each pot, but it was definitely too cold in the pot by the end of the meal (maybe invest in teacosies ?;-) I'm sure they would have refilled with hot water had we asked, it was a very minor thing)

What was the best part about your experience?
The food - hot, tasty and clearly cooked from fresh - we loved it that you can see them cooking the food in the kitchen area.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?
The service was excellent. The waitress was friendly and professional. She told us straight away that there was a bit of a problem with their coffee machine (not an issue for us, but clearly was for other customers who left as a result!) She was very efficent and the food arrived a short time after ordering, nice and quick when you have hungry children clamouring for food!

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?
No, I didn't.

And lastly, would you go again?
Yes, I think we would on occasion. I must admit that when finances are tight, we wouldn't normally consider going out for breakfast unless it was to a certain furniture store for their unbelievably cheap twelve item breakfast Wink. But, as mentioned earlier we could certainly see that the higher price at Bella Italia was for food of a higher quality, so I think we would return. We sometimes go to Bella Italia for an afternoon or evening meal and we are always happy with both the food (especially the Calzone!) and service, so this experience just cemented our good impression of the brand :-)

DifferentNow · 30/10/2014 21:57

Thanks so much MNHQ and Bella Italia for selecting my family to take part - it was a lovely treat.

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

It felt a bit strange going there for breakfast. We've eaten at Bella Italia lots of times before for lunch and dinner but it didn't seem to 'fit' having breakfast there. We were the only ones there for all but the last 10mins when one other family came in. The food and service were good though and we had a great time.

How would you rate the food quality?

The food was good but it could have been warmer.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

There was plenty of choice for adults and DH and I chose the gigante breakfast. The DC were disappointed that there was only two choices on the kids menu. Two of the DC had a cooked kids breakfast and the other three had a happy face pancake. The cooked food was well portioned but the pancakes would only be suitable for kids with a very small appetite. I ended up sharing my breakfast around as the pancake people were still hungry. The DC were offered top-ups on their drinks and DH and I were brought an extra pot of hot water for our tea unprompted.

What was the best part about your experience?

It was really nice having breakfast out. I can't think when we've done that before other than when we've been on holiday.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Our server was excellent and really could not have been more helpful. He interacted with our DC and was very friendly and chatty. The food and drinks took a bit longer to arrive than I would have expected though, given that we were the only ones there.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No.

And lastly, would you go again?

Yes, but for lunch or dinner.

BeattieBow · 30/10/2014 22:50

did anyone get charged for ordering adult meals for their dcs? the child portions are too small for my dds (who are nearly 12 and 10).

TyneTeas · 30/10/2014 23:20

Went this morning with DH and DD - and thanks to both Mumsnet and Bella Italia for the opportunity

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

The restaurant is quite recently opened so it is in very good condition presentationally. I liked the mix of tables and booths and all seemed nicely spaced.

The kids pack went down well – I appreciated that the staff asked my ten year old if she would like one, rather than assuming she would or wouldn't, it being an age when she both still wants to be a child and be considered more grown-up. She also liked being offered a balloon to take home - which as you would expect from a person of such advancing years has been 'experimented with' rather than 'played with', you understand ; )

As well as a fully accessible toilet (although combined with baby changing facility), there was also a modified general use cubicle.

I didn't notice if there were high chairs available

How would you rate the food quality?

Food was all really nice. The sausage was tasty and seemed a good quality and meat content. The bacon was nice and thick and didn't taste cheap and watery. The price of the items seemed reasonable for the quality, so while not cheap, fair value.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

Ten year old had the steak and eggs. She asked for it without mushrooms and was asked if there was anything she would like in their place. She was also asked how she would like it done and it came as requested and looked nice. Now I just have to manage expectations about the potential for steak being a breakfast item at home : )

Husband had a Gigante and was very happy with it.

Both have done their own reviews below

I had been thinking about having the breakfast pizza, mainly to sample a range for reviewing purposes, but gave in to the call of the Gigante too. I asked for it without eggs, beans and tomatoes, none of which I like and was kindly offered additional sausage and bacon. I was especially pleased with this aspect, as not all places are happy to even remove items from a set meal, never mind substitute, and particularly for a chain to be that flexible was appreciated.

The children's options look fairly unsubstantial for all but very young kids and for the kids' cooked breakfast I simply cannot imagine having to choose between either sausage or bacon!

The rest of the range looks fine, although I am surprised the Bella breakfast has no carbohydrate with it. By the time you add toast as a separate item, you may as well pay a little bit more for the extras that accompany the Gigante as well (or maybe that is the point?). Perhaps some fruit and cereal would be welcomed by some, but when eating out occasionally for a breakfast treat I know I wouldn't usually choose the simple everyday stuff of home.

What was the best part about your experience?

It was all great, cannot pick a particular element.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Both members of staff were lovely. Very friendly and welcoming, and attentive to check we were okay

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

I didn't – hadn't really thought about it as Bella Italia has only recently opened near me, so previous experiences are as a tourist in other areas.

And lastly, would you go again?

This is the difficult bit, because as noted above, everything was great and without fault and I can't think of anything significant that could have been improved and there is nothing from my experience that would deter me from going again. But I honestly just can't say that with a similar amount to spend on a meal out with my family, that I would choose a breakfast out over a lunch or evening meal. Even though lower cost menu options were available, the same relative value test applies and I would probably choose eg a take-away instead.

The Christmas special menu does look quite tempting though.... : )

Miss TT

The restaurant Bella Italia was extremely excellent! The eggs and steak was amazing! The layout was excellent (a mix between booths and tables.), the steak was thick, the eggs were perfect for dipping the potato, the toilets were extremely hygienic, the sinks had taps with sensors, the puzzles in the kids packs were entertaining and fun (I know because I’m 10!), the staff were cheerful and friendly although I don't know their names. I recommend Bella Italia and I would go back!

Mr TT

Generally - how did you find Bella as a place to visit with the family for breakfast?

It's never crossed my mind to go to an Italian restaurant for breakfast before. Lunch and dinner, yes, but not for breakfast. However, after sampling the menu along with my wife and daughter I would definitely say that breakfast at Bella Italia was a very enjoyable experience. Staff were lovely, the place was spotless and the décor appealing even though it's a chain restaurant. Warm and welcoming. I could imagine the place being quite buzzy over lunch and especially at dinner. We were the only people in at the time we chose to eat, but we did have the full attention of the staff on duty.

How would you rate the food quality?

I chose the Gigante Breakfast. There were no cheap 'catering' style items on the menu. The sausage and bacon were of good quality and tasted very nice indeed. This is reflected in the price of the breakfast.

How would you rate the selection of food – grown ups and kids - what did you and your DC choose?

For grown ups there is plenty of choice. The kids side is a bit thin on the ground. Our daughter chose the steak and eggs over the smiling pancake offering. Maybe half portions of the adult menu would be more attractive. We didn't ask if this was available, but it wasn't obvious to us as a selection for kids.

What was the best part about your experience?

The staff were lovely and very attentive. We had a window seat, that due to its location on a retail park unfortunately looked out over the car park, and our booth was comfortable and clean. The layout gave the impression that even when busy you wouldn't feel too cramped.

How about service: was it friendly and welcoming?

Yes, very warm and attentive. Couldn't fault the staff, but I am unable to recall if any name badges were worn.

Did you know Bella did breakfast prior to this?

No I did not. We were aware of the restaurant being built recently, even commenting on the location to the Pizza Hut next door, but we were going to give the place a go sometime.

And lastly, would you go again?

I would think so, but maybe not for breakfast. It's actually a tough choice. Our bill would have been around £35 including drinks. An amount that we would be happy paying for lunch or dinner. I do think that the items we had were expensive, but the quality of the ingredients was above and beyond your normal breakfast fodder. We are also aware that there were less expensive items on the breakfast menu, but we wouldn't have chose them even in normal circumstances.

Thanks for choosing me for this.
We hadn't been to Bella Italia before and I didn't know they did breakfast.
We chose the Hanover Street branch in Edinburgh and booked after some initial confusion about whether a table was available for next day. Fortunately the manager came on and knew what I was talking about. Arrived on time with DP and three DC and was greeted warmly by the same manager who seated us, at my request, as far away from the door as possible (it was windy and cold)
We were given the menus and were really pleased that there was something for everyone. DP and I both had the regular cooked breakfast, oldest DC had the breakfast pizza, middle DC had fruity pancakes and youngest chose bacon and eggs.
Very friendly service and we were all so excited about having breakfast “up town” that we didn’t mind that it took almost 25 minutes to arrive. Apparently it was the pizza which held everything up. I suppose some might object to that but meh, we were quite happy. ?
The food was great, everyone loved it. Youngest said it was the “best breakfast ever”, middle asked for more syrup for her one remaining pancake before practically licking the plate and eldest scoffed all but one piece of her pizza (which DP ate!)
DP and I agreed that our cooked breakfasts were perfectly fine and that it was nice to get a slice of ciabatta rather than the usual slice of bargain white bread. Sausage was a good cumberland, bacon was tasty (all agreed on this) and eggs were cooked perfectly. Not many beans but that suited me fine! If I had one gripe it's that I would have liked to see a black pudding included in the breakfast - this is Scotland after all! Wink

Throughout the visit I noted how customers were greeted and treated and the general demeanour of the staff. Everyone looked relaxed and friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We left a well-deserved tip.

Best part of the experience was the consistently friendly service - nothing was too much trouble.

We’d be happy to go back and probably will as all the kids were saying how much they enjoyed it.
