This is the feedback thread for the Mumsnetters who are testing out the Weight Watchers programme.

Weight Watchers say: “With 50 years of success behind us we understand how to make losing weight simple, delicious and fun; but we also understand how challenging it can be when you’re facing it alone. Join us to lose weight, feel fantastic and achieve great things. You can follow our healthy eating plan completely online with support from our unique community, or benefit from attending our lively meetings, for personal coaching and weight loss guidance.”

Testers: we'll be asking you to add feedback once a week - we'd like your first impressions now and every week after that, we'll be posting some new questions for you to answer.

So, in terms of your first impressions...

~ Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both?
~ Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
~ What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?

Everyone who adds their feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will receive a £100 Asda voucher, good luck!

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Weight Watchers on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks,
MNHQ

That's great iwantgin!

ihatethecold - well done on making a good choice for food, sorry it was a bit rubbish though!!

It's nice to hear how other people have been managing eating out. We almost went out for dinner tonight but decided against it at the last minute, ended up at Asda needing to get something quick to make as we'd been held up. DH got a pizza from the create-your-own counter, I got a WW branded chicken tikka + rice ready meal - 9 ProPoints. It was ok but didn't rock my world, however it was enough that I didn't want to try and steal pizza. I love pizza.

I switched to ProPoints for the day today because we spent most of the day at my PILs house. I didn't want to tell them that I was on WW as every time I tell people, they start trying to talk me out of it! I knew I could eat sensibly but not necessarily Filling and Healthy foods because I was going to have to eat what I was offered rather than pick myself. I felt quite proud of myself because I didn't have any sweet treats that they were offering round. I might switch back to Filling and Healthy until Tuesday as that was when I was planning to switch anyway… not sure.

dobedobedo - here's the deal on the activity points www.weightwatchers.co.uk/util/art/index_art.aspx?tabnum=1&art_id=100401 I think basically you can eat them or not, as you choose, you can swap them for food points on weekly basis, or on the same day. Last time I did WW I tended to eat some of them but not all, as I believe (and I think the science backs me up) that if I am more active I will need a little bit more calories. I mean obviously you still want to eat at a caloric deficit so that you lose weight but I found in my own case, it's best not to let the deficit get too great, if I don't want to be seeing stars every time I stand up!

How is everyone finding all of the measuring and weighing? I'm finding it really time consuming. We are at the in-laws tomorrow night for dinner and I'm really going to struggle to propoint it as have no idea on the weight / measurements of everything in it.

Ledkr · 05/10/2014 03:41

I am currently sat outside the chip/kebab shop waiting for friends to buy grease! I need a medal really don't I?

ihatethecold · 05/10/2014 09:15

bloody hell you're up late (party animal)

ihatethecold · 05/10/2014 09:17

if I was eating at someones house I would try to just eat the meat/fish and veg and leave the carbs.
I would also drive so I dont have to have any winE.

Then i would guess the points using the ww app.

Teladi · 05/10/2014 09:18

awards medal

mommathatwearspink - I don't know if this might help at all - the weights are in imperial but the concept is sound. media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/originals/dc/8c/31/dc8c31415cb8a2ffa153caeb109bb134.jpg (hope the link works!)

ihatethecold · 05/10/2014 09:19

That link is ace.

Hello I'm a tester...sorry I'm a bit late to starting! Answers to questions..

~ Will you be going to meetings, following the plan online or a bit of both? I am planning on doing both. I have not yet been able to go to a meeting as I can only go dependant on DP's work shifts. Also that means I won't always be able to attend the same meeting but I initially want to go to the meetings as well as use the WW app.

~ Why did you sign up to test out the Weight Watchers plan?
I have always been overweight but I am the biggest I have ever been at the moment Blush I had a shock when I weighed myself to start this plan. I have never tried Weight Watchers before and had been considering it but didn't have enough money so I am so pleased to have been given the chance to take part.

~ What sorts of foods do you think you'll be eating following the plan? Will it be a big change for you?
I don't eat meat I'll be eating a lot of the point free soup, quorn, lots of vegetables and fruit. I also like snacks and can't cut them out so I will probably be eating the WW crisps/cakes with my treats. Although I have just tried a bag of the Sweet Chilli flavour hoops and I am not impressed...they are a little cardboard tasting to me!
It will be quite a big change for me at the moment because I have not been dieting in the last few months and so have been eating lots rubbish, high calorie, high fat foods. However I usually follow calorie controlled diets so I am hoping to eat quite similar to how I usually do when I am following them.

ihatethecold · 05/10/2014 16:13

My membership card says its only valid until the end of october. I'm sure we signed up for 3 free months?
I dont want any money coming out of my account for novembe.
Anyone else's say the same?

iwantgin · 05/10/2014 17:21

I read that you will get the next month sent out automatically.

Can't remember where I got that nugget of info from though?

Sixgeese · 05/10/2014 17:42

I assume that towards the end of our card we will get the next months one. The below quote is what it said in the email from Mumsnet when we got our start up codes.

Once the sign up is complete Weight Watchers will add the time credit so you do not get charged – Weight Watchers will also cancel the membership after 3 months so you will not be charged

LottieAndTheDinosaur · 05/10/2014 19:05

How long did it take from signing up to receive the membership card please?

I can't print off my monthly pass as I don't have a printer, don't want to ask anyone with a printer as don't want anyone to know, and can't get to my local library when its open!

LottieAndTheDinosaur · 05/10/2014 19:06

I mean receive it in the post - thanks.

Teladi · 05/10/2014 19:48

Mine came within a week, Lottie, I can't remember what day it showed up, but definitely under 7 days from sign-up.

ihatethecold · 05/10/2014 19:54

Mine came in about 4 days.

Sixgeese · 05/10/2014 20:39

Mine came within the week.

LottieAndTheDinosaur · 05/10/2014 21:05

Great thanks, not too long then. It should be here next week and then I can get to a meeting!

JLucky · 05/10/2014 21:30

Not a tester, but hope the plans involve exercise. I have friends trying to lose weight, but find it very difficult by diet alone. Every mile you walk, jog or run burns off around 100 calories (read it somewhere, but can't remember where). Every little adds up over weeks/months. Other forms of exercise are also good such as swimming and exercise classes at leisure centre etc.

Ledkr · 05/10/2014 22:08

Is anyone going to keep it after the trial? I don't think it's any different to MFP.
With the slimming world app you can build recipes which I found really useful as was the free food, I really struggle if low on points and can't think of anything to eat.
Been ill in bed all day so not eaten so that's a good day Grin

dobedobedo · 05/10/2014 22:12

Managed to not eat cheesecake that dh bought earlier. It would have been 14 pts a slice!

Teladi · 05/10/2014 22:13

Hi JLucky, exercise is not an absolute requirement on WW but is encouraged, you can earn exercise points as part of the plan.

Teladi · 05/10/2014 22:16

Ledkr I'm not planning to keep it after the trial but that's mainly because I'm hoping to be at goal, or thereabouts - it is feasible for me so fingers crossed.

I used MFP for a while but I started to get a bit… not sure what the right phrase would be but I would basically try to eat as little as I could, and it was something to do with counting calories that made me get like that. Weirdly I don't seem to be feeling the same impulses with ProPoints. I think the Points kind of mask the figure a little bit for me, and I know I need to get to at least 26, and if I'm a couple of points down there are things I can grab. But we'll see how things progress...

Ledkr · 05/10/2014 22:17

I do Zumba x 2 weekly and walk as much as possible. More for my mental health than physical.

Ledkr · 05/10/2014 22:20

Yes I know what you mean about pp. it does make you stop and think before you eat. I'm on low fat also so I'm fairly restricted as well.
I'm hoping to do some of the baking this week, the lemon cake looks nice as do some of the deserts.

lunar1 · 06/10/2014 06:05

I'm still following online and have been using the app. I will admit I'm not really going by points but am using some of the healthy recipes (and plugging them into mfp). It has given my weight loss another kick start as I've lost 5lbs this week.
